so the touge scene in los angeles is super awesome, i (the EG) went there over the weekend with my bf (the tofu 86)

another AE86 came up the mountain too, a cool treat to see

some more stories below
watching this whole group go by was like the coolest thing ever! felt like that bit in initial d first stage when the redsuns first pull up
i wish i got to take more pictures but my phone was dying. anyway, first of all? holy shit those roads are fun. very technical and the pavement is great. can definitely see why it's popular
also you can like just hang out at the top of the mountain for a bit and people will pull over and say hi and talk about the roads or your car or whatever. like maybe 5 minutes after we parked, a guy in a GR Corolla (in the first picture) came over to talk to us (it was kinda funny since he was following us at the base of the mountain but we like totally left him behind on the run up). we also talked a lot with a couple that had a GT86, a guy with a miata, and a younger dude in a BMW
all sorts of different people come up there. new cars, fancy stuff, older cars (like ours), basically every sort of sporty car was up there running the mountain
everyone up there was super cool and excited to talk to people from out of town. they were also surprised when we said our local touge roads are basically barren and we're the only ones ever up there. i also talked to another girl with an EG with a k swap, she was awesome. truly an inspiration to us women in touge
one guy in an older BMW led us on a run into the canyon and back, it taught me a lot about how to reach the limits of my car (especially that i definitely need a new radiator)
my thermostat actually ended up like sealing itself shut with some silicone that was in it so i had to get a new one the morning after. luckily it was at the end of the night, so we just pulled over and slept on the side of the road in our cars. the guy in the miata we had talked to earlier that night passed us and asked us if we were all good. reiterating, everyone up there is so fucking cool.
also apparently one of the fastest drivers in the area is a tesla? the locals just said don't mess with him
10/10 highly recommend if you're in southernish california and like driving. you'll learn SO much from just driving around with the locals. even if you don't really attack the mountain, you can talk with so many cool people about cars n shit

Taking it back to 2003 with this Tenzo R sponsored Civic EG. Tenzo R was a US company that popped up during the early tuner days that specialized in knock-off parts. They made wheels, valve covers, seats, and more. What's funny is that these parts became popular in Japan during the Spocom (sport compact) boom. Oh, the EG is on air suspension, I forgot to mention that.

so today I was working on my EG6 model kit and let me tell you the story of how Shingo's windshield had a meltdown
I had previously done the paint on the windshield (basically a big clear plastic piece that you put inside the body, it forms all the windows and stuff) but since I did it with a paint marker rather than an airbrush it bled through the masking tape a bit and I didn't really like how it looked
Today I was on the phone with my bf and I was like "I kinda wanna strip all the paint off of the windshield and redo it so it looks nicer" and he was like "oh just throw it in some paint thinner for a couple hours, it'll come right off, just rinse it with some water afterward and let it dry overnight" so I filled a Solo cup with some paint thinner and threw the windshield in
So for those of you who don't know, like my bf and myself at the time, paint thinner destroys the shit out of plastic. A few minutes later I look at it and it looks like those hazy bathroom windows so I told my bf "hey is it supposed to look that hazy?" And he was like "yeah that's just the paint coming off" so I just let it be, not realizing that it was not in fact just the paint coming off
So my bf got home and we went outside to work on my actual EG and take it for a test drive and when we came back I checked the cup I had the windshield in and I'm like "wait where did it go, did you take it out?" And my bf said he never touched it, so I just dump all the paint thinner back in the container it came in (since it's reusable) and at the bottom of the cup was a huge pile of semi-transparent sludge. At first I thought it was just the paint that had come off until I picked some of it with my hands and it was suspiciously clear
I couldn't be mad because it's so fucking hilarious that my bf got me this model kit for Christmas and proceeds to make me melt the windshield 2 weeks later
The kit is also from like over 10 years ago, so good luck to my bf on his search for a replacement windshield
Tldr: bf told me to clean a model kit windshield with paint thinner and the whole thing just melted
