[BotW: Family and Legacy] - Passing on the Gremlin Wisdom from one gremlin generation to the next.

Link and his sister got their Gremlin nature from Grandpa Eishun. The OG Gremlin of the family. Their dad and Grandma do not approve on some of the Gremlin advices.

Also Link is 10 and his sister, 7 years old here. They sometimes visit their grandparents in Kakariko Village with their Dad. They have their own Sheikah outfits ready by said grandparents.

Can we hear more about your ideas for BotW Link's history? Ideas you have for the biology of Hyrule's peoples? TotK headcanons?

Hmmm.... I can answer the first question.

Everything that I have for BotW /Link's history is all part of my BotW / TotK: Family and Legacy series.

That being said...

Link's own Champion Abilty - Flurry Rush - is a family ability from his father's side of the family.

His father, Jun, has the same Ability. Along with his two Uncles - Hagane and Rakurai. And his Sheikah Grandfather, Eishun has the same power and is the master of the Flurry Rush. On top of this Grandpa being the OG Gremlin lmao. (Also later on, Link's sister - Aria - unlocks her own Flurry Rush ability...but it was after the Calamity).

I actually have a fic story that covers this - originally titled "Link's Chronos" - and its about Jun taking his then 14-15 year old son away from his usual Hero's training for a week or so to train him how to use his Flurry Rush abilities. And it's a nice family / father-son bonding story.

I haven't posted it anywhere...yet. All of the chapters and plotline summaries are still very rough and in need of editting!

One day, I'll get to them...

Anyway, here's a few sketches that are based on that story!

I love a good family bonding story. Link deserves to have a decent family...despite what happens.

Can you tell us more about the Satoru family? And are Jun and his brothers half sheikahs?

HELL YEAH I WILL TELL YOU MORE ABOUT THIS FAMILY THAT I CREATED FOR WILDY LINK. Cuz he deserves a good and wholesome family. And then cry about it cuz Calamity but ANYWAY

The Satoru family is the paternal side of Link's family. His Dad, Jun Satoru along with his Uncles, Hagane and Rakurai are indeed half-Sheikah. Grandpa Eishun is a full blooded Sheikah while Grandma Ayaka is a Hylian.

They all have layers of details and backstories for each one so here's a summary for each one.

Grandpa Eishun A retired knight of the Royal Army, he and his wife had retired to Sheikah Village where Eishun became part of the Village's protectors as a Sheikah Warrior. High-spirited despite his age and is the OG Gremlin of the family. He is also the forefather of the family's Flurry Rush ability.

Grandma Ayaka A retired healer for the Royal Army where she met her husband. Patient and firm, she is the rock that keeps Eishun grounded when he gets too caught and/or injured from his own shenanigans. She is especially fond of their grandchildren and often looks after Link & Aria when they were young.

Uncle Hagane. The eldest son of Eishun and Ayaka. The "gentle giant" of the three brothers. Hagane is a blacksmith and lives in Hateno Village with his wife, Yua and daughter, Kiki. And despite not a knight like his younger brothers, Hagane has the strength to break wood in half with his bare hands. He also does not like it when someone carelessly breaks his creations. (Fun fact: his design is based on the original concept for BotW Link's dad).

Dad Jun! The second son of Eishun and Ayaka. He is the quiet and studious son who tends to go the extra mile to complete his given tasks / duties. He is also Link and Aria's father! He was selected to become part of the elite Royal Guard after displaying his Flurry Rush abilities. By present day, Jun is a widower and a single father to his two children. ...He also finds himself getting caught in the middle of major historical events involving the Royal Family and something about a sacred sword.

Uncle Rakurai The youngest son of Eishun and Ayaka. He is considered as the fastest of three sons and uses his Flurry Rush abilities the most (Their dad is still faster than all of them). He is one of the couriers for the Royal Army and is often sent to various garrisons and forts around Hyrule. He is single and considered himself as the cool and fun uncle to his nieces and nephew.

So I'm still working on that map and I'm in too deep with the worldbuilding lore. Until then, here's a set of sketches I've made some time ago featuring Wild's Family! They're based on draft storylines I have for them so far.

BotW: A Pre-Calamity Story - ART DUMP

So I have done so much work and quick sketches on the side about my Pre-Calamity Story. Particularly with Link/Wild’s family from before. These include his father (Jun Satoru), younger sister (Aria Satoru), mother (Selene Somerset) and his grandfather (Eishun Satoru).

JUN SATORU  - Commander of the Royal Guard. 

Mixed Sheikah-Hylian heritage and a good wholesome dad. (Below is the concept design I have in mind for the Royal Guard Commaner’s uniform):

There’s too many jerkass fathers for Link. Like c’mon, this kid already went through enough. Let him have a good wholesome parent!!

SELENE SOMERSET 

She is Wild’s mother who comes from a military family but works in the Castle bakery. She first met Jun during the lunch runs for trainees and helped him through his gruelling trials and training into becoming an elite knight of the Royal Guard. They eventually get married and have two kids - Link (Wild) and Aria. She unfortunately passed away due to an illness when Wild was six years old. She’s also the carrier of the Hero’s Blood.

EISHUN SATORU - Retired Knight and Veteran Sheikah Warrior

Jun’s father and Wild’s paternal grandfather. He’s part of a Pre-Calamity livewrite fanfiction story that I am currently working on for some time. It explores where Wild got his slowdown time (Link’s Chronos, aka Flurry Rush) abilities from. He’s also a bit of a badass gremlin.

ARIA SATORU 

Wild’s younger sister. She’s about three younger than Wild and she absolutely loves him. They were very close growing up and Wild did his best to spend time with his sister. She and their father were the only ones who Wild was comfortable to be around with, especially as the strain and pressures of being the Hero and Hylian Champion took a toll on him.

BONUS - POST-CALAMITY 

Aria did survive the Calamity and the aftermath events including the Age of Burning Fields and Yiga Clan’s attempts to wipe out all who carried the Hero’s Blood or was related to the Hero. 

Hardened and scarred by the apocalyptic events of the Calamity and the loss of her family, Aria grew up to become a skilled Sheikah warrior and archer. And she looks identical to her brother.
