John McFadden to Elizabeth Hamilton, Albany, [March 7, 1816]
Madam—
I am desirous of purchasing Lot No. 25 in the Town of Sterling, and County of Cayuga, which I am informed belongs to you. I live in that town, when at home, and now am at Albany—attending the Legislature. I hope you will do me the favour of writing me a line, and send it to Albany by mail. Before the Session Breaks up stating the Price, and Terms of Payment, and Permit me to Inform you that there is 150 acres of Swamp in the North East Corner of the lot. I surveyed the adjoining lot and ascertained that fact. If your Price and terms will Answer my Purchase I will come to New York when the River opens, and make a contract for it. I hope you will do me the favor of writing me a line as soon as this comes to hand, and Pardon the Liberty I have taken in writing to you as I did not know who your agent was. I am with lene(?) Respect your obedient Servant.
Books that I’ve read recently and would recommend. 🖤 Part 2
A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson. A reimagining of Dracula’s brides, written in letters to Dracula from his first wife, Constanta. I love anything vampire-related and can’t even describe how much I loved this book.
A God in the Shed by J. -F. Dubeau. A fantastic horror novel set in a messed up little town. A murder investigation, a serial killer, a god trapped in a shed (literally), the occult, ancient evils, blood and gore, and lots of twists and turns.
The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. A historical/grimdark fantasy novel heavily inspired by the Second Sino-Japanese war. Very violent and graphic, but an amazing read.
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. A fun 80s demon possession story set during the satanic panic. A teen girl drops acid, gets lost in the woods, and accidentally gets possessed by a demon — and it’s up to her friend to save her. Gorey and campy.
Maggie’s Grave by David Sodergren. A pregnant woman, falsely accused of being a witch and brutally murdered, takes revenge on a Scottish town centuries later. Fun, fast-paced folk horror meets splatterpunk with an endless amount of gore.
The Island by Adrian McKinty. A tense, fast-paced thriller set in in an island off of the coast of Australia. This book genuinely stressed me out and made me want to bite my nails, but I couldn’t put it down. A bit of Wolf Creek vibes.
Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury. A ghost story and psychological horror with dual timelines. Family drama, a haunted house, toxic parents, etc.
Never Lie by Freida McFadden. A psychological thriller with a great twist. When their realtor doesn’t show up, newlyweds take shelter from a blizzard in a manor that belongs to a missing psychiatrist.
Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. This book and the world within it makes my heart flutter. A dreamy, whimsical fairy tale blended with East Asian folklore.
The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf. An atmospheric mystery/thriller. A writer travels to an isolated farmhouse where two unsolved murders and the disappearance of a girl took place decades earlier, and plans to finish her book while snowed in. Things go down hill after she finds a young child outside and decides to bring him in from the cold.
Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. A retelling of Greek mythology, and such a beautiful and heartbreaking book.
A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon. A a high fantasy novel and standalone prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree. Amazing world building, amazing writing, amazing characters, and dragons.
Ring by Koji Suzuki. I’ve always loved the films, both Ringu and The Ring, but I’ve never read the book until now and I highly recommend it if you haven’t either.
Prepare for a glimpse into the past of a beloved character as you uncover the secrets of the mysterious Mcfadden family. Witness lies, secret exchanges and betrayal that spiraled into a whirlwind of tragedy and loss as the story that has remained unseen for over a century is finally uncovered.

A convicted sex offender in Oklahoma shot and killed six people – including his wife and her three children – before turning the gun on himself, police confirmed Wednesday.
The details come after 39-year-old Jesse McFadden and the bodies of seven others were found on a rural property near Henryetta, Oklahoma – about 90 miles east of Oklahoma City on Monday.
Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice said the victims had been shot one to three times in the head.
The victims were McFadden’s 35-year-old wife, Holly Guess, and her three children, Rylee Elizabeth Allen, 17; Michael James Mayo, 15; and Tiffany Dore Guess, 13.
Two teen girls Brittany Brewer, 16, and Ivy Webster, 14, who were visiting the family over the weekend, were also found dead.
Police found the seven bodies amid a search for McFadden after he failed to appear at his long-delayed jury trial on Monday in Muskogee County.
McFadden was sentenced in 2003 to 20 years for first-degree rape of a 17-year-old. He was released three years early despite facing new charges of using a contraband cell phone in 2016 to trade nude photos with a 16-year-old girl.
Now family members of the victims are questioning why McFadden – despite facing new charges that could send him back to prison – was freed after serving only 16 years and nine months of his original 20-year sentence.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections did not respond to Fox News' request for comment on the matter.
Court records show McFadden was charged with the new crimes in 2017 after the young woman's relative alerted authorities.
Set free in October 2020, he was arrested the next month and then released on a $25,000 bond pending the trial, which was repeatedly delayed, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ominous text messages obtained by KOKI show McFadden appearing to blame his accuser – now a 23-year-old woman – for ending his "great life" and saying that he was determined not to go to prison.
"Now it’s all gone," he texted. "I told you I wouldn’t go back."
He added: "This is all on you for continuing this."
McFadden married Guess in May 2022; what she knew of his record isn't clear. Her mother, Janette Mayo, said the family didn't learn about her son-in-law's criminal history until a few months ago.
"He lied to my daughter, and he convinced her it was all just a huge mistake," Mayo told The Associated Press. "He was very standoffish, generally very quiet, but he kept my daughter and the kids basically under lock and key. He had to know where they were at all times, which sent red flags up."
Hi i read your D3 fic, paper rings. And i was hoping if you can recommend me some of your favorite books.🥹
Awe, for sure!! I read a variety of books so I’ll try to have a little variety🥹
So, right now, I’m reading “A Court Of Silver Flames” By Sarah J. Maas. The ACOTAR world is super fun and easy to read, one of my staples when i recommend, lol. I also love Riley Sagers books for thrillers. “A House Across The Lake” was the one I recently read of his and it was super good and captivating! Freida Mcfadden is another amazing thriller author!
Romance wise, I read a lot of Ana Huang, like her Twisted Series, Her new King of Sims series, and If We Ever Meet Again. Also, anything Lauren Asher! I have yet to read Dirty Air, which is based on F1, but her Dreamland Billionaire was so good! “Love and Other Words” by Christina Lauren is one of my comfort reads.
But my all time favorite, is The Boys of Tommen books. I love them so much! Its romance but also sad and funny at the same time, lmao.
I would also recommend “My Dark Vanessa” by Kate Elizabeth Russell. But definitely check the TW’s, it’s so good, but it’s like Lolita, so, y’know. Also, “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls, “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath, All of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s book, “Daisy Jones & The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Fleetwood Max Vibes), and “Bunny” by Mona Awad. Oh, also “Valley of the Dolls” by Jacqueline Susann is another book i’m finishing and I’m in love with it. Sorry for blabbing a bit 😭

Guest host Ralph Miller III, who worked behind the scenes on Dream Warriors provides insights and many effects development photos that are shown in the YouTube version of the podcast. Post-recording, the crew wants to clarify that Kevin Yagher was responsible for the Freddy Snake, and Mark Shostrom was in charge of the Penelope Sudrow dummy that smashes into the Freddyvision TV.
With the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), following the critical failure of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985), New line Cinema firmly cemented Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare on Elm Street as one of the most iconic horror franchises of its time. Not only does Dream Warriors feature Robert Englund continuing to breathe both humor and fear into Freddy Krueger but also the return of both Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon from the original. The film also features Craig Wasson (Ghost Story) as the male lead and early film roles for Patricia Arquette and Larry Fishburne. Frank Darabont (The Mist) and Bruce Wagner join Wes Craven on scripting chores and Chuck Russell (The Blob, The Mask) directs while Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet) provides the score – a winning combination of talent. Surely a Grue-Crew highly recommended selection with special effects by Greg Cannom, Doug Beswick, Mark Shostrom, Kevin Yagher, and more!

It took a lot of cajoling to get Bob, a recently widowed architect, to go on a blind date at a quirky Irish-Italian eatery. Once there, he’s smitten instantly not with his date but with the sharp-witted waitress. Everything seems to be going great until an unbelievable truth is revealed, one that could easily break both of their hearts for good.

Movie Reviews:
Peter McGinn: Okay, I will admit I can be a bit of an easy grader when it comes to romantic comedies, as long as they are witty with likable characters, don’t insult my intelligence and have suitable happy endings (I guess if they don’t end happily, they aren’t rom-coms).
I saw this movie many years ago, but had forgotten just enough of it to keep it fresh for me. Like many movies, the plot relies on a huge coincidence or three. The story gets sappy and sentimental in places, is rather predictable and has too much religion to suit me, but that last thing may suit you just fine, praise be. It was co-written and directed by the actress Bonnie Hunt, who is a supporting character in the film.
But there is a spark of chemistry between the two lead characters, the dialogue is smart and sharp, and the movie is rich with its supporting cast, such as Jim Belushi, Robert Loggia and Archie Bunker – I mean Carroll O’Connor. Plus I have liked Minnie Driver since Circle of Friends.
Just keep in mind this isn’t Hitchcock or Frank Capra stuff and doesn’t try to be. Just let it flow over you

I prefer the 2005 movie bc mr darcy comes off more as an anxious freak than prideful, which I find very fun. I love that he looks like he's pleading for death 70% of the movie. Also I watch it and now all I can see is a romance between a deranged buisness man and a pirate. Thanks for giving me an excuse to rewatch :-)
