Elk #5 in the cooler! Most of it is going to a neighbor family with five boys to feed, as I still have lots of elk and pig from last year. I got to shoot a Fancy Gun tho and dropped it from 360 yards with a scope zoomed all the way out (oops) but we got it done. In one side and out the other and she was dead in under three minutes. Also that's why you never shoot at an animal you can't see behind!

8 Elk Calling Tips

Do you know hunt elks? Do you use calls to lure elks to your position? In this article, we share elk calling tips to help you lure more elks to your position.

1. Two Are Better Than One

When there are two individuals involved in calling elks, it is better. One can be the caller while the other person can be the shooter. Hence, the farther back you are, the better as it pulls the elk closer as it looks for the elk and passes the shooter. Try to be farther back at least 75 yards.

2. Use Different Calls

Take a number of different calls with you. You don't know which sound the elk will respond to. Take along a variety to experiment until you find the one that elks are constantly responding to.

3. Make Cow Sounds

Making cow sounds cause the cows to come in and this just might lure the bull in as well.

4. Use A Bugle

If you are alone, you can use a bugle that makes it sound like you have changed your location. You will sound like you are really close or walking away and that will get the bull coming in your direction. 5. Don't Be Fast To Call

Don't be in a haste to start calling. It is good to get up close and observe what the bulls are doing before you start making calls. Get a good idea of what is happening with them to know which call to make. You will have to blow the right call at the right time in the right scenario to get the elk to react.

6. Bugle & Chuckle

The "bugle & chuckle" is one of the popular elk calling tricks. It works most of the time to call in a bull elk into your area. It can scare away bulls but call in the big and dominant bull elks.

7. Cow Call To Calm Spooked Herd

If you spook a herd of elk, use a few short mews to call the spooked herd won while you get within range.

8. Bugle Louder Than The Herd Bull

To rile up a bull, bugle louder than the herd bull. This will most likely bring a bull within the range as it searches for the rival who is bugling louder than him. He wants to show who is the boss.
