I'll teach you to jump on the wind's back and then away we go.
- J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
‘Those who don't jump will never fly’ is a dictum drilled into me from an early age. It’s one I took literally when I learned when parachuting and then later dabbled in sky diving, well before I went into the British army as a combat pilot.
Skydiving provides a unique combination of adrenalin-fuelled exhilaration and perfectly calm tranquillity. While in free fall it's all about the rush - but once the parachute opens and your heart rate steadies, you'll take a moment to gaze around you and see the whole world in a new light. It's beautiful up there, and the experience is about as close to actual flying as humans can actually get.
To the skydiver, ‘flying’ in a plane is akin to ‘swimming’ in a boat. As someone who has flown helicopters I would quible with that simple characterisation but eventually I’m okay to acknowledge there is some truth behind it.
As someone who used to parachute and sky dive as a recreational past time, I can empathise with those skydivers who live for the wind whipping past as they plummet toward the earth during free fall, and the thrill of floating on the air currents once their 'chutes are safely open. They live on the edge, though not in danger - amid the elements, but not at their mercy.
In skydiving, it is the fear response that gradually weakens. During the precipitous descent, the amply tested parachutist can savour the thrill rather than endure the panic. You may never get rid of the butterflies, but you can teach them how to fly in formation.

We desperately need more accessible outdoor spaces. I was an infant the first time I went camping. March of last year I was doing 5 mile morning trail runs. Then I got sick enough I ended up a part time wheelchair user.
A little under a year after I had to give up even hiking, I've started actually getting outside again because my fam and I figured out adaptive boating. But every boat launch, every parking lot, is still a question of how accessible it is and how good a day I'm having.
People deserve to access the outdoors on wheels.
People deserve to experience natural wonders no matter their disability status, or health or mobility situation.
Especially given how often I've heard the advice "have you tried going outside?"

Hey yall! Just wanted to share this app that allowed me to see alot of new trails and outdoor spots in my area! It's free, the regular map feature works just fine. I've been so annoyed with having "no spots to walk" where I live and that couldn't be further from the truth!
There are paid features! But honestly I've been using the free version and it's fine. But I understand some people really wanna fine tune their searches!

Finding a Climbing Community
Tumblr media
Finding a Climbing Community to share your passion with can be a great way to improve your skills, explore new climbing areas, and make new friends. Here are a few ways to connect with other climbers:
Finding a Climbing Community Guide
Local climbing gyms: One of the best places to find other climbers is at your local climbing gym. Many gyms offer classes and clinics, as well as opportunities to meet other climbers through organized events or open climbing sessions.
Outdoor climbing areas: Outdoor climbing areas are also great places to find other climbers. Many areas have designated climbing routes and some may have official climbing clubs or groups that organize regular climbing trips and events.
Climbing clubs: Joining a climbing club can be a great way to connect with other climbers who share your interests. Many clubs organize regular climbing trips, events, and training sessions. Many clubs also have online groups or forums that allow members to connect and share information.
Online communities: There are a variety of online communities, such as forums, social media groups and apps, dedicated to climbing where you can connect with other climbers from all over the world. You can also use these platforms to ask for climbing partners, beta, share pictures and videos, and to find climbing events and meetups.
Climbing events: Climbing competitions, festivals, and expos can be great places to meet other climbers and learn about new climbing areas, gear, and techniques.
It’s important to note that when looking for climbing partners, it is important to make sure they are experienced and have the right equipment, as climbing with someone who is not properly trained or equipped can be very dangerous.
In summary, finding other climbers to share your passion with can be a great way to improve your skills, explore new climbing areas, and make new friends. Some ways to connect with other climbers include visiting local climbing gyms, and outdoor climbing areas, joining a climbing club, connecting with other climbers online, and attending climbing events.

#RogerFederer bids emotional farewell in doubles defeat alongside #RafaelNadal @rogerfederer
#RogerFederer bids emotional farewell in doubles defeat alongside #RafaelNadal @rogerfederer
Over the course of the past decade and more, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have thrived regardless of circumstance. They have stared each other down in the finals of the grandest tournaments around the world and they have brought out their best time after time, even when the tension was most suffocating. Their rivalry, with the frenzied popularity it created and the level it exhibited, has…
