On January 9, 1973 (one day after his birthday), Elvis Presley arrives in Hawaii for his televised concert "Aloha From Hawaii" due to January 14.
This is my favorite set of pictures of Elvis. I feel like having a room with all those pictures around (walls to roof, lol). They have such a joyful energy to me. 🥹 Although all his pictures in Hawaii are incredibly perfect I love the January 1973 ones more than anything else so I tried to put the pictures together in a logical sequence of what I figured happened in that moment: Elvis arriving by helicopter, getting out of it, meeting with fans and talking to the press, then hopping in a car and heading to the hotel.
And the most special part of this post comes right away. I'm so happy to share this with you! I FOUND A FEW PICTURES OF ELVIS WITHOUT THE LEIS ON! Maybe some of you have seen it before but it's a first for me, so here it goes (E was wearing an interesting necklace):
A few months ago I noticed in one of the pictures from that day that Elvis was wearing (underneath a thick layer of leis) a beautiful black shirt with a white lines and red dots pattern, but there was only a thin bit of the shirt that was in sight. It's a shame the pictures I found are blurred but still... I'm happy you have no idea. I think E barely left the helicopter and a whole bunch of flowers were thrown around him immediately, which would explain those pictures not being so easy to find (and not having many of them to find) — But hey, no complains from me... the leis hold a very special meaning and they look great on Elvis, of course, but I was dying to see the full outfit and I guess some of you might have been too.

I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now, friends 🥹
I DID IT!!! I was able to draw this one. That concert and that song and that man!!! My words are just not enough to express how deeply touching my heart ❤️
So here it is my Elvis from Aloha from Hawaii 🖌️🎨💖
This is truly one of my favorite concerts of Elvis and this particular song makes me lose it every time. I still remember watching it for the first time and being in awe of this man. I was truly amazed by his voice, his energy, his moves, just all of it. Then, when it came to this song, I remember my dad turning up the volume and just saying, “watch.” And so I did and soon enough tears were rolling down my face. It was the first time an artist’s voice had me crying. This whole concert is amazing and will forever be a special one in history.
This man was a true gem and there is no one like him since.
50 years ago today, Elvis Presley performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena in Honolulu, HI, on Sunday, January 14, 1973, for his “Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite” live concert, which was a benefit for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund.
A ✨minor miracle✨ happened, and I was able to finally write something somewhat cohesive for the first time in what feels like forever...

TW: references to period-related health, diet/ED, and drug issues, mentions of Dr. Nick, passing mention of Jack, Elvis' temper and how that brings up some things for Reader, cussing, baby talk, and of course a smidge of smutty smut 💋
Sneak Peek:
Very early morning, January 14th, 1973
This is bad, you think, buzzing with worry.
When you arrive in the dressing room, your heart pounds erratically in your chest, and not just from the massive, ground-breaking concert you just performed in or the roaring crowd in the arena. No, it’s when you look at your husband and see he’s looking through you, not at you. To be fair, he is distracted by the towel lobbed over his shoulders and the Mafia circling him with congratulations and pats on the back. Telling yourself that’s all it is, you snake your way through the guys and to his side.
“Elvis. Elvis, honey?” you whisper at him, trying not to yank on his bejeweled American Eagle suit with too much force. It was already heavy enough before he spent a few hours sweating in it, and now you guess it’s ten pounds heavier by the way it sticks to him and weighs him down.
“Hmmm?” he murmurs back at you, then finally seems to register your presence. “Oh, here’s my girl.” He squeezes you into his side and for the slightest moment you feel reassured, but the hug feels superficial and weak compared to how he once embraced you so tight you thought he’d never let you go.
He’s usually wired and riding high after a performance by this point. Instead, he seems exhausted and uncharacteristically out of it.
The itch inside you to pull him away and ask if he’s okay is so strong it makes your fingers tingle. You know doing such a thing now could perhaps hurt his ego, so you bite your tongue for the moment. But the way he lets you go and seemingly brushes you off has you grinding your teeth.
Stepping away, you tear off your own suit jacket, throwing it over a chair back and roasting from the inside out, even though it’s monumentally cooler in here than it was under all those lights on stage. Worry and brewing anger will do that.
The guys are sycophantically praising Elvis’ performance, and he nods along, not quite absorbing the words based on his blank expression. Perhaps you are just exhausted yourself because usually you would be singing his praises, too, but you know deep down it wasn’t his best show and that there is something fundamentally off about him.
He sinks down onto the sofa and a sense of relief washes through you. But you still feel on guard and uneasy. Maybe it’s the way Dr. Nick lingers in the corner, talking to Joe...

“It was typical of Parker and his bullshit about the runway height*, whenever he got involved in the production side of anything Elvis did, he always messed it up which hurt Elvis' career.
He came up with the idea of the satellite show for his own selfish reasons. Not just because of the money he made but this was his way of not having Elvis tour outside the U.S. because Parker did not want Elvis to do that without Parker travelling with him. . .”
