...Mizuki always had it in her head, y'know? That push come to shove, Ena's blunt nature would absolutely lead to her swearing up a storm. But seeing it whipped up, a tirade of under-her-breath curses that'd make a sailor blush?

Mizuki's charmed.

She leans on top of their mixer, chin settling in the crook of her arm. It makes a comfortable spot to lean on, she's found. "Having fun~?"

Predictably, Ena's head whips around for her to scowl unimpressed. "What does it look like? Don't just stand there, help," she growls. The effect's diminished, slightly, by her waving a ladle.

Mizuki still acquiesces, caring spouse that she is. She moves to help scrape off the pot. "What happened?

"...I got an idea for a new piece, after I'd finished adding everything to the stew and, well." Ena huffs, gestures, a touch of pink dusting her cheeks and nose. "You see what happened."

"And my wife turned into a foul-mouthed creature for this...! Alas!"

"Really? That's what you've got to say?" Ena arches one eyebrow—dangerous, dangerous!

And well, Mizuki knows Ena takes a certain amount of pride in picking the best food out for cooking. So she puts aside her teasing for the moment and earnestly says, "Well it's my sworn duty to ensure my wife mainly swears because of my delightful whimsy and my skill with words! And other things. Even if she doesn't want to admit it. So contractually, I'll kiss it better."

Ena's mouth twitches. "You're so full of it."

"See?" Mizuki points. "Already working!"

She huffs a laugh, and picks up the phone. "Keep scrubbing, you. I'm going to make sure we've got something to eat tonight."

sleeping Chuuya - i preordered him back in 2021 from animate! he was expensive i'm ngl but sooo worth it. he hogs like half my queen sized bed

bear outfit Chuuya - he's fan made so i got him from the creator on weibo right before he sold out. he came in a pair with Dazai and they've got fox ears and a detachable tail! the bear outfit is actually separate,,,the dolls come nude so you can buy them cute little outfits haha

Chuuya mochi - this was my first piece of Chuuya merch lol i got him off of aliexpress

dead apple Chuuya - i got him from mercari jp in 2020! he was too cute i caved

Chuuya nendo - bought him from goodsmile when he rereleased in 2020 (i got lucky catching him on rerelease)

80's pop design Chuuya - they said these were made to order so i preordered from eikoretto earlier this year! he was TOO cute and i'm weak

Chuuya chibigurumi - got him from mercari jp last year!

Ena still pauses to narrow her eyes. "Just what are you saying, huh? 'Surprisingly'?"

"I didn't expect you'd insist on making the kaeshi in advance, is all." She shrugs. "When it comes to meals, you're usually content to just throw together whatever's easiest that fits our needs."

Ena glowers even more deeply; Mizuki gives a theatric gasp and pretends to quail behind Kanade. "Careful, Mafuyu!" she whispers, loud enough for all of them to hear.

Shooting them a look too, Ena hmphs. "My ma always took it seriously, so. It felt weird considering anything else. Plus..." She trails off, pinking, before busying herself with slicing the fish cakes with renewed vigour. "Anyway, are you going to complain about having something home-cooked for New Year's Eve?"

"Nooo..." Mizuki slips around Kanade's ankles, saunters up beside Ena, and lays one arm around her shoulders. "But you were saying something very interesting before you cut yourself off there, Enanan~ And inquiring minds want to know!"

Ena gives a flat look. "You think I'm going to tell you now?"

Mizuki pouts. "C'mon, Enanan~ You know I'm playing around! And I'm sure Kanade and Mafuyu'd love to know too, why it's so important to you! Right?" She looks to them for support.

Mafuyu simply nods, while Kanade does smile sheepishly. "You've been working hard on this, Ena... we can see it means a lot."

Before that, Ena relents with a sigh. "You know there's a lot of reasons why people say, we have soba before New Year's. Well, I just... for me, the reason that always stuck out is wishing to be beside someone, for a long time. And since it's our first year where it's just us... yea. I didn't want to half-ass a wish for that." She coughs, and looks at them, as if daring them to say something.

Mizuki's mischievous look softens to true tenderness, and she nuzzles into Ena's cheek to kiss. Mafuyu and Kanade join her in hugging Ena. And Ena folds, because of course she does, letting go of the knife to squeeze them all close, and murmur her sincere wish.

"Let's have another good year."
