📝 Record it! 📝⠀ ⠀ Every time I make a new piece I record the process. ⠀ ⠀ Even before I begin, I make to-scale renderings and jot down notes on the process and measurements of all of the parts needed. Then I can start making the piece. ⠀ As I go along I always have my notes beside me and make sure to tweak things when I do things differently than I planned (this happens a lot, because it is easier to figure out new and more efficient ways to do something when I am physically making the piece). ⠀ When I am all finished, I take my notes and experiences and meticulously record everything in special notebooks I designed. ⠀ This step is sooooo important. 🔥 Time to Enamel! 🔥⠀ ⠀ Enamelling is a blast, but if you don’t do it properly from the beginning, you are going to have problems and disappointments later on.⠀ ⠀ First the metal needs to be perfectly clean, otherwise the enamel will not adhere properly. If you don’t take the time to make sure the piece is clean right from the beginning, you will regret it very quickly. ⠀ ⠀ Second the enamel needs to be applied to both sides of the metal. Enamel creates tension on the surface of the metal, and can even result in the metal warping if only one side of the piece is enamelled. The tension needs to be balanced on both sides of the metal. This means a similar amount of enamel needs to be applied to both sides to make sure this equilibrium is achieved. If one side has too much enamel this can cause warping and makes the enamel unstable and more prone cracking. ⠀ ⠀ This image is the back of the leaf. I apply a fairly thick coat so that when I do all of the colour mixing on the front the piece ends up properly balanced.⠀ ⠀ Taking time in the beginning saves time later!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ 🖱️ Click and Collect now possible!
