Avisala! Meet our new Sang'gres!
Bianca Umali as Terra, daughter of Sang'gre Danaya
Faith Da Silva as Flamarra, daughter of Sang'gre Pirena
Kelvin Miranda as Adamus, son of Sang'gre Alena
Angel Guardian as Deia
-
I've seen these actors from other shows before and I have to say that they actually have a lot of potential...
BUT WHERE IS CASSANDRA?!
She was literally shown at the finale episode and she's not one of the main characters wtf?
Angel Guardian kinda looks like Mikee so I was expecting that she was gonna play Lira's daughter. Right now I have a lot of things/crazy theories in mind:
1. Deia is the only character who's from the mortal world (like Paopao)
2. She is (hopefully) Ybramihan baby #2 which makes her Lira's younger sister. Idk maybe Emre granted Amihan another chance to live considering how fucked up her life was in the second half of season 1 **coughs in sarkosi**
3. She's Cassandra in disguise
Honestly, I'm freaking the fuck out that they did not introduce Sang'gre Cassandra. The girl literally grew up with the other new generation of Sang'gres so it's definitely not set in the timeline prior to her birth.
But come to think of it, there are five elements that make up the mother gem so Cassandra could be the new keeper of the brilyante ng diwa...but why was she not introduced as one of the main characters?
Anyhoo, I'm still excited for Sang'gre. I'm crossing my fingers that the 2016-2017 cast will still be part or at least make an appearance to the show.

Sang're: Encantadia Chronicles
With the news of an upcoming sequel to Encantadia in production, I couldn't help myself but revisit one of my favourite Filipino fantasy show ever produced. I watched all 218 episodes of the requel in a week and started re-watching the 2005 as well.
Growing up I remember trying to convince my mom to let me stay up late enough to watch the show and it was such a big part of my childhood. My sister, our neighbours, and I would pretend to be one of the sang're and try to reenact the show. From their fight scenes to their drama scenes, we did it all. I tuned in until the very last episode of the original version and even tried to learn the language because that's how drawn in I was with the world-building and fantasy aspect of the show.
Fast forward to 2016, I'm well into post-secondary and live outside the Philippines. When I heard about the requel, I made sure that we had GMA Pinoy TV and all the episodes were recorded. That way I didn't miss any episodes. Now, to be honest, I wasn't a fan of 2016 at first. I was very critical of some of the casting, the CGI work, and even the world-building. It felt familiar but not. I missed the mystical aspect of the show and I missed that I was able to suspend my disbelief for 30 minutes to escape to this enchanted place. I didn't get that escape from the 2016 version because it didn't feel magical enough for me. However, over time, I learned to enjoy the show because of its storytelling. I was invested in the characters and what was happening to them which led me to fall in love with Amihan and Ybrahim's romance in this version. I enjoyed the sisters' bond here and wish we saw more of it in the show. I liked how each Sang're got a chance to meet their father and we, the viewers, got to know each of them.
There were a lot of positives from the 2016 version which is why I feel sad that "season 2" of Encantadia will be focusing on a different generation. I understand that Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya have been the 4 iconic sangres for almost 20 years and it's time for new characters to succeed them. Unfortunately, I feel that the 2016 version had more stories to offer and the Sang'res had more adventures and stories to explore. Especially with the death of Amihan, there were storylines that were abandoned to accommodate Kylie's departure. I just hope that the fans get a proper closure for these 4 Sang'res and aren't left with an opening ending. Kinda like how Encantadia 2005 concluded. Arman, on the back of a dragon, narrates the story of the 4 Sang'res and properly transitions the audience to the new protectors with him, Armea and Cassandra. 2005 gave the audience a definitive conclusion to the main 4 while setting up a potential sequel. This is something 2016 tried to do but left viewers with more questions since they introduced Cassiopea's twin and set up 4 diwanis running on the beach.
Don't get me wrong, I like the actors that are playing the new Sang'res but I do hope this sequel will be a bridge to continue the original 4 stories until its creator can give those characters a proper send off. Also, I would love to see Danaya as a mother and give Pirena and Alena a chance to have children again. Additionally, it'd be nice to see the growth in Lira and Mira. Lastly, I would love to see Amihan reunite with her sisters and get the happy ending that her parents didn't have the privilege of having.
That being said, I am beyond excited to watch this show and hope that we get book 3 and book 4 like what the creator and writers have shared.

Since I really do like branding myself as a fantasy blog, I think it’s time I expand a little since I tend to post about mostly the same eurocentric fantasy worlds. While I do love them all dearly I am also very curious in exploring new content, so I’m looking for non-white fantasy shows and until now what I’ve been able to find is:
Ice Fantasy (Chinese)
Encantadia (Philippine)
Arthdal Chronicles (Korean)
Also, the only places where I’ve seen a fantasy kingdom with a high population of Black characters is Season 2 of Shannara Chronicles and Season 2 of The Dragon Prince, so I’m especially curious if there’s anything more of that. Also looking for any fantasy settings with South American, Indian or Native Canadian settings.

Thoughts about some fan theories about the highly anticipated Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre
WHO IS DEIA?
I guess this is the number one question the fans are asking right now. But one thing is for sure, Cassandra and Deia are NOT one and the same. This has already been confirmed by Suzette Doctolero herself, the character of Cassandra hasn't been introduced yet and the actress who's gonna play her remains a mystery.
Here are some other fan theories about Sang'gre Deia:
That Sang'gre Deia is the daughter of Ybrahim and Ariana
-No, I don't think so. Ybrahim and Ariana had some sort of connection because Amihan's soul was inside the latter's body. However, their relationship NEVER developed and Ybrahim only found out about the whole sarkosi thing in the final episode when Ariana was killed for the second time thus freeing Amihan's soul. Without Amihan inside her body, Ybrahim would never even bat an eye on Ariana. The best thing that could happen with these two is to have a cordial or civil relationship (due to Ariana's friendship with Lira).
2. Deia is the daughter of Cassandra
-I have a 50/50 opinion about this. Cassandra was born after the war between the sang'gres and Hagorn's forces and Lira was seen holding baby Cassandra along with Danaya, Alena and Pirena with their own babies. It was implied in the finale that the little girl in blue was Cassandra playing at the beach with Flamarra, Adamus and Terra. Meaning to say that she's around the same age as the other sang'gres, which means Cassandra is too young to have a daughter around Deia's age (unless her growth was magically sped up to make her older).
But the more I think about it...
What if the writers purposely left out some details and the girl in blue was actually Deia? And that scene was actually before Cassandra's birth? I saw Angel Guardian's photo with Ms Iza Calzado who played the original version of Amihan on her instagram account and apparently, Sang'gre Deia was actually named after Iza's daughter Deia Amihan. Are they giving hints of Deia being Amihan's second daughter? IMO this actually makes more sense than Deia being Amihan's great granddaughter.
ADAMUS IS TERRA'S LOVE INTEREST, AND THEY'RE TRYING TO RECREATE ANOTHER YBRAMIHAN LOVE STORY
I'm not a hypocrite, I support Ybramihan, Daemyra, Helaemond and Jonerys and yes, they're all related by blood (but I don't fucking support that shit in real life, I know the difference between fantasy and reality okay?).
This is highly unlikely. SD has made it clear that they're not trying to recreate the Ybramihan love team. Speaking of which, I just find it funny that there are people who are calling out the YA ship for being incest when nobody gave a fuck about it in 2016. Armeo and Raquim are first degree cousins (according to Etheria 2006, King Armeo's namesake, Prince Armeo was the brother of King Meno who died long before the war against Etheria), which makes Ybrahim and Amihan second cousins. Emre CHOSE Ybrahim to father Amihan's heir, and to top all that, they're not humans.
I have a theory about this:
If you're a Percy Jackson fan and you have read all PJO books, you know that the demigods' godly parents are all related which makes them in a way related as well. BUT, they are allowed to date other demigods as long as their partners aren't born from the same godly parent (otherwise, they would be dating their own sibling) so it doesn't matter if their godly parents are siblings, cousins, etc. Maybe, the same thing applies to engkantados. Perhaps they are allowed to date or marry someone from their family as long as it's not an immediate or a first degree family member. Again, this is just my own theory.
IS ARMEA GOING TO EXIST IN THE SEQUEL?
SD did not give a direct answer, but if you ask me my answer is no. Adamus is the Armea of this version of Encantadia. Alena has already moved on from Ybrahim although they maintained a cordial relationship with each other. Besides, I don't think Alena would want to bypass Lira once more by having her own heir to the Lirean throne. Lira is the rightful heir to the throne and Alena would be happy to pass the crown to her one day. Cassandra is already named crown princess of Sapiro and King Ybrahim's heir by Cassiopeia herself, so for me, as much as I love Armea in Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas, there's no need for an Armea in this version.
There are so many crazy theories out there but these are the ones that really caught my attention. Btw, these are all from Suzette Doctolero's X page and she has been reposting and answering some fan questions and theories, feel free to check them out.

Rhian Ramos is Mitena, Cassiopeia's twin sister who is going to be the main villain on the show.
Giiiiirl, I have always, always wanted Rhian to be a part of Encantadia and I am so happy that she's finally here! ❤️ I am so impressed with her latest performance as Margaret Royales in Royal Blood and I just know that she's gonna nail this role. I hope and pray that Solenn is going to reprise her role as Cassiopeia.
I am also happy to see Glaiza back as Hara Pirena, still wishing for Sanya, Gabbi and Kylie to be part of the show 😭.
Anyways, these are the rest of the cast members:

I see some really seasoned actors like Sherilyn Reyes, Ricky Davao and Bianca Manalo and some fresh faces whom I hope will not disappoint.

📷 It's Showtime & Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre Facebook pages
The OG Sang'gres in one frame 😭😭 there was a part in their performance where they held hands as they fight off the bad guys which reminded me of that scene in Etheria (2006) where the Sang'gres kicked the Etherian soldiers' asses while being chained to each other (one of my favourite scenes in the show).
My wish for an epic Sang'gre 2005 vs Sang'gre 2016 showdown still remains. If Karylle can gather all of her sisters together for a performance in a TV show (partida walang franchise 'yan ha?), I am hoping that GMA, direk Mark, & madam SD could make it happen too.
Happy to see Taylor Sheesh, BGYO, BINI, David Licauco, Roselle Nava & her kids as well.
Oh, and Argus is such a cutie.

4R’s: Encantadia Season 2 (May 9, 2017 episode review)
Episode 210
Recap:
Getting the heiresses back
Pirena went back to Hagorn’s camp, the latter has been expecting her. Pirena “made up her mind” and has finally decided to surrender the fire gem to Hagorn, and even though she “failed” to convince her sisters to do the same, Hagorn already has three gems in his possession, two gems are better than three. Hagorn was suspicious at first, careful not to fall for the same trick Danaya once pulled on Avria. Pirena proved him wrong by showing off the gem’s wonders, Hagorn was finally convinced, but Pirena demanded for her beloved sang’gres in exchange. Hagorn took her to Old Etheria where they tied up the princesses. Ybrahim and Alena who apparently has been keeping an eye on Pirena from afar followed Hagorn and Pirena all the way to Old Etheria. Pirena was ecstatic to finally see her daughter and niece alive and well. Just as agreed, Pirena surrendered her fire gem. Hagorn thought he gained the upper hand, he was wrong, for the fire gem will never follow his command if it is not whole. Apparently, the sisters used Lira’s sword, through the sang’gres’ blessing, Lira’s weapon gained enough power to cut a portion of Pirena’s fire gem and this portion was used to deceive Hagorn in order to win back Lira and Mira without sacrificing the powerful brilyantes. They casted a protective spell using Mine-a’s scepter to prevent Hagorn (or perhaps Ether) to find out about their plans. Hagorn was enraged, a battle ensued, Alena and Ybrahim aided Pirena and successfully rescued the diwanis. It was a huge slap to Hagorn’s face that he was outsmarted by his own daughter.
Meanwhile, Manik who found himself guilty for betraying the diwatas which led to the deaths of many decided to make it up by avenging those who have perished, he encountered a group of vidaljes where he single-handedly fought them. In the end Manik perished, his dying wish was for Emre to forgive him for everything he has done. Muyak and Azulan found his corpse later on, they knew Manik chose the good side in the end and sacrificed himself to serve justice to those who suffered because of his treachery. Azulan paid respect to him, Manik will now be remembered as a hero. Azulan and Muyak immediately ordered to prepare a proper burial for Rehav Manik.
The destruction of Destruction
Emre has been training himself at handling Haliyah’s weapon, one of it’s many wonders is that it is able to sense of an enemy is nearby. Ether and Arde appeared, Emre and Cassiopeia challenged the two in battle, Ether and Arde “merged” and became a two headed beast. Emre and Cassiopeia would have been defeated if two ivtres didn’t come and rescue them, the ivtres brought Emre and Cassiopeia to safety. Turned out, it was Alira Naswen, the former Mashna of Sapiro and Gamiel [?] (me: I didn't get his name but sounds like it, sarreh!), a former Lirean soldier and father of Mira. The two narrated how they were able to escape: when the evil gods took over Emre, Ades became worried for Kahlil was nowhere to be found, turned out he was able to escape, and through the help of Ades who bravely sacrificed herself, Alira Naswen and Gamiel (?) were able to escape. The trio’s plan was to free the ivtres who hailed from the royal clans since they are much stronger and more powerful, wise decision as it seemed, but Kahlil was captured once again, Alira and Gamiel (?) was on the verge of giving up but was relieved that they have found Cassiopeia and Emre. Through the de-jar, Emre was able to cast a protective barrier to prevent Ether and Arde from finding them, Emre had high hopes that Keros will finally change his mind and take their side. Unfortunately, something happened, Cassiopeia saw the corpse of Keros in her vision, he was killed by Arde because of his treachery, Kahlil who saw his lifeless body in the flesh lost all hope for Devas’ future.
Rave/s:
💎Finally! An episode worth the rave! So glad Alena’s plan worked, but I guess happiness will be short-lived, I am kinda predicting that if Arde dies Lira and Mira will definitely back to being corpses once again thus they have to make the most difficult decision ever, I think Lira and Mira will really die for real in the end and Cassiopeia will become goddess and this will pave way for Cassandra’s creation and then cliff-hanger in the end. The possibility of an AleBarro come back is still there because like what you bessies said, even if the relationship Ybrahim and Alena has is platonic, maybe it’s the writer’s way of developing AleBarro, honestly I don’t like this idea because it really seems like Ybrahim is no good without an other half, and that he wasn’t being truthful when he claimed that he will always wait for his reunion with Amihan. And I would really like to see Ybrahim develop as a sole character, but oh well, like I mentioned before, Encantadia 2016 to 2017 is dependent on love teams no one can deny that fact. I won’t be surprised if they pushed through an AleBarro end game since Ariana’s character didn’t have that much development and Ybriana is an epic fail as well. So sad that Joross’ Manik had to die before the grand finale but I enjoyed every bit of his good guy-baddie role, truly an actor worth raving.
Rant/s:
🤔The conceptualization of the gods was far from what I have been thinking, after watching the episode tonight, I concluded that Emre is nowhere near the god I was expecting him to be. He is no different from his creations which is why his characterization is such an epic fail. The problem I see in this narrative is the way the writers incorporated the concept of gods in paganism and Christianity. It is said that the five gods of Encantadia came from heaven, the home of God (the real God) and they were banished for being neutral in the war against the “dark forces,” therefore, since heaven only has God and Jesus as well…Gods, Emre and co can also be considered as “fallen angels” except that they didn’t got stuck in hell or something like that. Which explains why the gods of Encantadia aren’t as powerful as what I was expecting them to be, if that’s what they have been trying to convey then they shouldn’t have addressed Emre as the “most powerful god,” he is powerful but he can be defeated just like Ether and Arde, they should have tagged him as king of the gods instead, because if he is oh so powerful and if he does see everything he should have known about Arde and Ether’s plans in the first place, may live streaming sa Devas diba? Also I don’t think it was a good idea to think that the existence of gods came from a Supreme God, the existence of gods in reality is based on someone’s belief. Encantadia believes in Emre but not God, the therefore he doesn't exist in the Encantadia universe. There should be a separation between two realities, they should have made Emre and God co-exist in two different realms instead of “coming” from the same God because this is what basically is the story of the gods is all about. And since Encantadia tackles more about Filipino myths, then the story of how the Encantadia universe was created should have been more…mythical, like the existence of Ma’at (Order) and Isfet (Chaos) and how it brought fourth the other gods and how these gods created the earth and blah, blah, blah (Egyptian mythology). I don’t know if I am making myself clear but it’s just that I have very different views when it comes to the concept of gods being incorporated in a story. I don’t know if you guys get my point but if you happen to be a fanatic of the Percy Jackson series and the Kane Chronicles Trilogy, you’ll know what I mean.
