Trying something new…
TF2 mercs with a reader experiencing a panic attack. Gender neutral.
This has Engie, Medic, and Scout, cuz I love those three especially. Not sure if I can do requests, but I could try.
Notes: I’ve never had the pleasure of actually playing the game because my technology is very limited (one day…), but I love the characters. If my writing for the mechanics is wack, that’s why.
I also know it would be hard to have a panic disorder and be a mercenary, but I feel like it could still happen sometimes. They’re still human.
Warnings: descriptions of panic attacks and other mental health ailments that may be associated with them, including dissociation, hyperventilation, insomnia, and hallucinations.
Engineer:
-You had been forced into a corner. Inching closer and closer to respawn by the second.
-How many more hits could you take? You weren’t sure. But you didn’t want to go through that again…it had happened so many times…maybe you truly were losing your touch.
-The breath hitched in your throat, and tears threatened to spill down your face. Please…please just leave me alone…!
-A voice crooned from just behind him. The sadistic grin was wiped off your attacker’s face as he received a bright bolt of light to the back of his head, slumping over with a thud.
- “That’s just about enough a’ that, son.” Engineer, with the Short Circuit still smoking, looked down at you. “Ah…” Even with his eyes covered by his goggles, you could see the pleased smirk drop immediately as he retracted the weapon.
-Maybe it was the visible concern, maybe it was the fact that you didn’t have to be in fight or flight anymore, but the dam broke. You couldn’t breathe, every attempt at getting air came out in sharp gasps, audibly sobbing.
-“C’mere, darlin’…how bad did he getcha… Whoa—”
-You clamped your arms around him when he went to help you up, holding for dear life as your face quickly became slick with tears. “T-too close…I, I almost…oh my gosh…”
-Engie went rigid for a moment, clearly not expecting the sudden grasp, not knowing what to do.
-Machines, those he knew how to fix. But to find one of his closest teammates broken down crying in his arms, shaking like a leaf… how could he fix that? Could he…? Surely, surely he could. He would. That was his job!
-Slowly, warmly, two strong arms wrapped around you, stroking your shoulder with his thumb.
-“Now, now, honey…don’t you cry, I got ‘em for ya. And if anyone lays another finger on ya, they’re gettin’ a wrench to the dome, hear me?” You nodded quick, curling your head into his shoulder.
-“Let’s get you outta here, we’ll find the doc together, patch you up. Up ya go…”
-Assuming you didn’t start walking by yourself, he did his best to smoothly transfer you out of the embrace and into a close carry.
-You still struggled to catch your breath, and as he picked his pace up, you rested your head against his chest.
-Feeling his voice reverberate, you heard him humming the song he’d been softly singing the other night. The same one you had fallen asleep to. Trying to soothe you, in his own sort of way.
Medic
-Burning. Burning all over. That’s all you remember. You’d dropped your guard…there was just a Pyro and a Scout left, and you’d ended up completely burned.
-As you were brought back, you found that you couldn’t stand.
-Medic hurried up to you as you dropped to your knees, MediGun in hand. “Ah, wunderbar (wonderful)! I have saved a charge just for you, let’s go finish—oh. (Y/N), was ist los (what’s the matter)???”
-You grasped at your arms, your legs, you swore you could still feel the flames licking at you. Your breathing sped up, feeling your heart pounding in your ears.
-Medic may have had his license revoked, but he still knew exactly what this was.
-As you tried to get up and listen to what he had been telling you to do, he immediately stood in front of you. “Nein, I cannot in good conscience let you go back out right now. Bitte (please), (Y/N), sit down.”
-Plunking yourself right back down on the floor, you fought hard against the tightness that was forming in your throat. “That…that freaking sucked…”
-“I know that it did.” Out of the corner of your eye, you saw him moving to put an arm around your shoulder, giving you a moment to back away if you needed to.
-He seemed surprised when you instead leaned against him, trying your best to keep yourself together.
-“Oh! …ah, Liebe, that is not one you recover from quickly. Sit still…it’s okay.”
-The doctor reached over and softly ruffled your hair, his touch surprisingly gentle. A few tears escaped your eyes, but you were beginning to catch your breath again.
-“I know I was a bit strict, but…sending you out like this could easily get you killed again…and we do not want that.”
-Medic stared daggers towards the direction of the scent of smoke. How dare they set you ablaze. He’d make sure to take them out in pieces…
-The thought of bloodshed nearly drove him to his feet, almost hungry for it, but as he looked at you, he dropped his shoulders. We can get revenge later. They need me right now.
-“Liebe, listen. Don’t work so hard, alright? It’s no good for your heart… There will be hell to pay for that…for now though...stay here. And I’ll stay too, if it helps. I just healed everyone, I think they’ll be good.”
-You glanced up at him. “Are you comfortable like this?” He rolled his eyes wearily, but chuckled.
-“Me? I’m just fine.”
Scout
-The enemy Spy had been absolutely unrelenting for the last few days. Nowhere was safe. Nowhere at all.
-You were so anxious about going back to that the next day that it was even beginning to mess with your sleep. You swear you saw shadows moving, eyes in the dark…the lack of sleep only made it worse.
-Every encounter with that menace ran through your mind, playing on repeat as you stared at the ceiling. Finally, you decided to give up on sleep and go back downstairs.
-Upon seeing a shadow standing in the darkness, you couldn’t help but stumble backwards with a gasp, fumbling for a weapon that wasn’t anywhere near you.
-“Whoa! Hey pal, whatcha doin’ up right now?”
-The voice was clearly that of the Scout…or maybe that was what he wanted you to think.
-Unable to catch your breath, you ended up with your back to a wall, hands up in front of you in a panic. You saw Scout through your fingers—and quickly-accumulating tears at the corners of your vision. He looked…worried. Extremely so.
-Scout was confused, not atypical for him. But why were they so afraid? He hadn’t been too loud, had he? “…(Y/N)…it’s me, Scout. Jeremy. Ya…ya don’t gotta be scared. I’m sorry…didn’t mean ta scare ya.”
-Your hands visibly shook as you looked at him, desperately searching for some sign that could tell you if this was real or fake. “…you’re the real one…?”
-Oh. They were scared about the Spy…that scared? He’d noticed they’d been acting way different.
-“It’s the real me, (Y/N). Ain’t no freakin’ Spy gettin’ in here with me around. I’d never lie to ya, so please…”
-Somehow this did the trick. You fell apart, crying into your hands, which were cold and clammy at this point, ashamed of your own fear. “I’m sorry! …I’m sorry…”
-“Hey…it’s okay, I gotcha…” Scout knelt down in front of them, holding his empty hands out. Maybe if they see I’m not armed, it’ll help?
-You felt a gentle tap on your knee. Pulling one hand back, you found Scout holding his own out to you. “C’mere a sec.”
-Taking his hand, his fingers carefully intertwined with yours. You could feel the roughness around his palm from the constant grip on his bat.
-His eyes were bright, even in the dark. “That Spy? He’s a wuss, ya hear me? All talk. And next time we go up against him, we’re gonna send him back to his base pissin’ himself and cryin’ for his ma, cuz nobody messes with us, right?”
-You couldn’t help but crack a smile as he tried to rally you, in the carefree cocky way he always did. “Y-yeah…that’s right.”
-“You know it! We’ll win, we always do! And if he gets anywhere near you, I’ll whack his friggin’ lights out, so don’t you worry, doll! Not out there…and not here.”
-With this, he pulled you in by the hand and wrapped his arms around you, giving you a firm pat on the back. “You know I’d never let anybody hurt ya, right?”
-“Y-yeah…thank you. Sorry I got so scared.”
“Don’t gotta apologize for nothin’. He’s a creep, I don’t blame ya. But that’s all he is.”
-Your eyelids were now growing heavy, and a quiet yawn interrupted the conversation.
-“Sleep, (Y/N). I’m right here. Ain’t nothin’ gonna touch ya with me here.”

Close, But so Far.
tws: angst, gore, depictions of panic, and depictions of a seizure.
Spy sat on the cold operation table, arm sliced open by Medic. The air hung heavy-the smell of copper infecting the air, and infiltrating Spys damaged lungs. He took quick breaths, tears forming in the corners of his eyes. He could hear a ringing in his ears as the room fell silent.
Medic was no where to be seen; He'd left Spy alone.
He could feel blood slowly trickle down his arm, and form dried out streaks. he'd hoped that he'd soon either die of blood loss, or that Medic would return to finish the surgery.
------------------
Medic fumbled around in his bag for a few moments, cursing to himself in German. He'd been attempting to fix a fractured piece of machinery inside of Spys arm when he'd realized that he actually had no idea what he was doing.
"Herr Engineer! I need your assistance, bitte!"
the soft sound of boots hitting wood could be heard getting closer, alongside Dell-who had held onto his helmet with his gloved hand.
"yeah?" He asked, panting for breath. his chest heaved heavily, making Medic take a small step back.
"I need your help vith ze surgery," medic started. "zhere is.. anozer issue vith Spy zat I vill need your help for."
upon returning to Medics lab, the two found that it was empty. not a single sign of the Spy anywhere. Archimedes flew down from one of Medics medicine cabinets, and landed on Medic-softly cooing.
"dang nabbit, damnit!" Engineer yelled as he threw his helmet down angrily. he sneered, looking around. "where the HELL could he have gone!? Medic-you. you did remember to turn on the battery on his back, yeah?"
Medic turned over to Dell, mouth slightly agape.
"vell.. I er.." He rubbed the back of his neck with his gloved hand, and looked over to Archimedes. "did you see anyzing my beloved bird?"
Archimedes gave a soft coo, and Medic nodded.
"I see.."
------------------
Spy took slow, sluggish steps; His arm hanging limply on his sides. His chest heaved as he attempted to breathe. saliva had run down his chin, and dampened his balaclava. He'd ran from the lab as soon as he was able to gather his energy. He shakily stood still-vision blurring. he shook his head, and looked around for any sort of exit.
He threw himself against a wall, feeling like he was going to collapse. He tried to slow his breath in an attempt to save his energy.
Spy pushed away from the wall, and took shaky steps towards a nearby window. the sun had barely been visible anymore, leaving a soft orange glow.
it had been a long while since he'd seen it. the warm, comforting light. He'd looked out the window longingly, knowing that-if he managed to pull off this escape-he'd finally be able to see Daniel again.
"oh, danny.." Spy managed to choke out. Tears again started to form at the corners of his eyes and run down his face.
then; In a sudden and swift moment, A sapper had embedded itself onto Spys back-causing sparks to fly off-and making him collapse. His body involuntarily spasmed and jerked as the sapper did its job.
The Red spy lit himself a cigarette, and closed his eyes in disappointment.
------------------
Engineer had never ran so fast in his life. it gave Medic a slight scare.
"SPAH SAPPIN' MAH SPAH!"
He'd tripped over a loose wood panel, and was thrown onto the red spy, who gave him a glare.
"Dell."
Engineer rolled his eyes and threw himself off of Spy.
"betcha missed that Jules, didn't ya?" Dell said in a snarky tone. "now what the hell are yah doin' my Spy?!"
Jules rolled his eyes, and took a long drag from his cigarette. the way Dell had said it made his heart ache in a familiar way he hated. He'd grumbled something, before moving out of Engineers way.
"I simply stopped him, Dell." He paused, taking another drag from his cigarette. "you're welcome."
Engineer growled, and pinched the bridge of his nose angrily.
He looked down at the convulsing Spy in front of him almost blankly-before he turned to Jules.
"why the hell did yah have to go n' do that?! you do realize his systems could be seriously damaged, right?"
Dell kneeled down next to the Spy, and ripped off the sapper. He tossed it away, and lifted up the still twitching Spy. He'd held him over his shoulder, and glared at Jules.
The Spyborg had let out a quiet whimper as a last resort. a final cry for help.
unfortunately it would fall upon deaf ears.

Perhaps a sequel to the crush medic x masc reader thats more romantic (with art)?
Bloody dance
◇ TF2 Medic x reader
◇ waning: slight gore and mentions of blood
You were helping Medic and Engineer fix their weapons in a workshop. After rough (but successfully won) battle most of them were in a bad shape, so you volunteered to help them. Mostly you did it because you wanted to spend more time with your team's doctor. You liked to be around him, his presence and wide smile was enough to bright your day. He was working on the other side of the room, repairing his medigun while you were helping Engineer with his Frontier Justice. You stared at Medic's face, daydreaming, before you felt hand on your shoulder.
"Hey there partner. Can you hear me now? I asked if you could give me screwdriver"
"Oh! Right right, sorry Engi"
Engineer looked at you and back at Medic couple times, before comic back to continue his task.
"You seem distracted. Is everything alright?" He asked.
"Yea yea. I was just...staring at...something..."
Engineer smiled at you before patting your back.
"You know I think I can handle this by myself? if you want, you can go check if Doc needs any of your help"
You raised your eyebrow as Engi was smiling at you. Simply you rolled your eyes and smiled back. You approached Medic from his left side a bit nervous.
"Hey there doc. I came here to ask if you need help"
Medic turned around to face you and replied with a light chuckle.
"Of course you can mein liebling. Can you put your hand on the metal piece right here? Those parts are really hard to hold together. Your strength is something I could use right now"
Without any questions you did as he asked. You hold the metal piece of the medigun in one place, standing really close to him, meanwhile Medic leaned his head on your shoulder. Slowly he began to connect the parts together, you didn't move, because you didn't wanted to disturb him, or make it akward. He gently hummed to you ear, and moved your hand to metal parts he wanted you to hold. It took some time but he finally finished to connecting pieces together.
"Done. Zhank you for help my strong friend!"
"No problem doc!"
"Now that we're done for today, would you like to have a cup of tea in my office? Alone of course. I bet others are still drunk after "We Won F#ck You BLU Team" party Demo and Scout organized."
You noded excited, as Medic walk out of the room. You stared at the door for some minutes, before quickly turning around after hearing small chuckle behind you.
"Ah, you two finally found time to go on a date" said Engineer while connecting wires in his sentry gun.
"Come on Engi, this isn't a date. Right...?"
"Hm. Doc never asks anyone to drink his tea with him. One because he drinks special type of tea that only he likes and two, he prefares to do it alone, since it makes him feel relaxed, so him inviting someone for a tea is... well, unexpected. But what do I know" he shruged his shoulders and continued to work.
You couldn't stop thinking about it, was Medic actually liking your company enough to invite you to spend his free time with him.
After couple of minutes you arrived at his office. You changed your uniform for something more casual. You walked inside, looking for Medic, when you noticed him behind curtains.
"Doc? I'm here-"
Is that moment Medic walked out, with bloody hands, in which he was holding a fresh heart.
"Ah! Zhere you are! Came right on time! I apologise I still needed to organise my things"
He put heart into a jar, placing it right back on a shelf. You stared at his collection as he was cleaning his hands.
"There we go. Sit down bitte, I will give you your cup of tea in no time!"
You sat down. While Medic was preparing tea some of his birds started to gather around you. You gave some of them headpats before they fly away as Medic sat down next to you.
"Here you go!" He gave you small cup filled with hot tea. You took a sip, and surprisingly it was really good.
"And? What do you think?" Medic asked.
"It's really good!" You answered before taking another sip.
"Really? Ha! I knew you'll like it. Glad to see we have similar taste, not like the others. Scout spat it out right away"
You both enjoyed your tea, and pleased yourself with smalltalk, gossips about your teammates and laughed at each other's jokes.
Some time passed, this is when you heard one of the songs in radio. You started to move to the beat of the music.
"Can you dance?" Medic asked.
"Me? Oh a bit. I don't think I'm the best dancer"
"I'll be the judge of that" on these words Medic stood up and took your hand.
You followed him, and both of you stared to dance. You weren't the best a first.
Who I'm kidding, you were terrible. Medic warped his hand around your waist and pulled you closer to himself.
"Relax. This isn't a test but a dance, so enjoy it"
You started to slowly catch up with him, enjoying every step you made with him today. Both of you stared to dance like crazy, enjoying the beat and not caring about anything else than this. You picked him up by his weist and spin around with him, causing him to laugh even harder.
"Showing off your strength, aren't you?"
"Maybe" you answered.
You looked down at his face. The way he smiled with such pride and joy made your cheeks to change color. When song ended both of you were still holding each other. You couldn't let him go, so did he.
He closed his eyes and kissed you in lips. Your eyes widen.
It was...wow
Short but beautiful moment. Then you looked up at him, he winked back at you.
"See? You dance amazing"
"Yea. Thanks Doc"
"No problem. Now let's enjoy the rest of the night mein liebling~..."
Both of you kissed again, this time a bit longer. You hold him in your hands, gently petting your hair. All you wanted was to stay like this forever. You felt comfort of his hand as both of you sat down, this time closer to each other, as he was gently holding your hand.
[Thank you for reading!💀✨️]

Reality’s an Illusion, the Universe is- Wait wrong show
It was dinner time at the RED base. Everyone was eating or chatting. There was one voice that was distinctly missing, though. The voice of Scout was silent.
At first, this abnormality was easily ignored. Then, it became painfully clear that Scout was not speaking at all.
“Are you ok, son?” Engineer asked, giving Scout’s shoulder a little shake from the seat next to him.
Scout did not reply. He just stared at his plate, which appeared to be untouched.
“Is there something wrong? Are ya sick? Ya have ta eat.” Engineer’s hand moved from Scout’s shoulder to his forehead, feeling for a fever. Scout remained perfectly still.
Engineer frowned.
“Son? Can ya hear me?”
Engineer was beginning to feel panic rising in his chest. This was completely abnormal for Scout. What was wrong with him?
“Stay here, son. I’ll be right back.”
Engineer stood, making his way over to where Heavy and Medic were talking and laughing.
“Doc? Can I talk to ya for a second?” Engineer asked, bringing Medic out of his conversation.
“Hm? Vhat is it?” Medic asked, his face changing to one of slight worry.
“Somethin’s wrong with the kid. He’s not talking or eating. He wouldn’t even move.” Engineer said, his nerves apparent through his voice.
Medic’s frown grew deeper as he glanced over to where Scout always sat at the table.
“Engineer? He is no longer in his seat.” Medic said, a hint of concern in his voice.
Engineer’s heart leapt into his throat as he swore.
“We have to go find him. Something’s wrong with him.” Engineer’s voice was filled with panic now. Something deep inside him was screaming that Scout was in danger.
Similarly, the alarm bells were going off in Medic’s mind as his brisk walk developed into running.
Scout sat on the floor of his bedroom. He was silent and stone faced. Engineer followed the boy’s eyes to his lap, where a knife lay in his hands. Scout’s eyes stared blankly at the object. The boy’s fingers twitched ever so slightly, grazing the sharp edge.
Both the doctor and the engineer stood in the doorway, frozen. Contemplating what to do. Suddenly, Scout grasped the handle of the knife and stabbed it into his leg. That stony look never fell from his face.
Medic acted quickly, pulling Scout’s hand off of the knife and pinning the boy against the ground.
“Dell! Your electrical chord, bitte!” Medic shouted to the still frozen Engineer as Scout struggled to get free.
Engineer shook his head, breaking out of his stupor and unclamping the chord from his belt and rushing it to Medic.
Medic hastily, but securely, wrapped the chord around Scout, keeping the boy from grabbing the knife and hurting himself father.
“What do we do?!” Engineer practically screamed as he attempted to hold down Scout’s legs.
“Ve have to get him to zhe infirmary. Go get Heavy. He vill be zhe best for carrying Scout.”
Medic’s voice and demeanor portrayed calmness, but there was a hint of panic in the doctor’s eyes. It was clear that he was not used to treating a patient whose injuries were self-inflicted.
Once Engineer had left the room, Medic turned his attention of Scout.
“Jeremy? Can jou hear me?” Medic spoke gently, his voice betraying some of the fear and sadness he felt.
Scout did not answer. His face remained in that same blank expression. The young man had stopped fighting at this point. He lay on the floor, quivering a bit.
“Vhy? Vhy did jou do zhis? Please, tell me! Vhat’s wrong?” Medic was nearly pleading Scout for answers now, unable to understand how the young man could be fine one day, then causing himself harm the next.
Then, Scout finally spoke.
“It doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t matter. Nothing matters.”
“Vhat?? Vhat are jou saying??”
“None of this is real. None of us are real. This war never ends. We never die. It’s all so pointless. So meaningless.” Scout spoke in a monotone voice, his face never changing. Blood seeps from the wound in his leg, staining his pants.
Medic is deeply disturbed now. He had never heard Scout speak like this before. What was this moron talking about?
“Jeremy, vhere did jou hear zhat? Who told jou zhis nonsense?”
“Have you ever been into town, doc? There’s nobody there. You walk into town, and suddenly there’s people. But when you aren’t there….” Scout trailed off, “I left a camera in town with a bunch of film one day. Figured I could get some funny footage of those idiot townspeople. After the ten minutes it took for me to get out of town, the people disappeared. We aren’t in a real place, doc. Everything we know and love is fake.”
Before Medic could reply, Engineer rushed back into the room with Heavy right behind him. Medic sat for a moment, thinking about what Scout had said. Then, he shoved those thoughts aside. He needed to take care of the physical health of Scout before he worried about the mental.
“Heavy, vould jou please take Herr Scout down to zhe infirmary? He has harmed himself and is in need of medical attention.”
Medic said flatly, still staring down at the now passive Scout.
“Da. Heavy will take little man to Doktor’s workplace.” Heavy spoke softly, scooping Scout up. It was clear to him that Medic was distraught. The doctor’s accent always got heavier when he was distressed.
Later, in the infirmary, Medic was still mulling over the things Scout had said. The doctor had long suspected that there was more to their situation than he knew about, but he had never thought that their entire reality was false. Medic glanced down at Scout. The boy’s leg had been bandaged and he had been medicated into a deep sleep. The steady rise and fall of Scout’s chest did nothing to comfort the doctor.
What if Scout was right? Then what?

Kink-Your-Tober Day 7: Suspension Bondage
Ludwig felt faint, his vision swimming before him as Mikhail moved into view.
“You are doing good, голубь?” Mikhail asked, pulling on one of the ropes. Ludwig nodded, although it was hard with him hanging upside down from the ceiling, his arms tied behind him. His wrists were tied to his ankles, his legs bent so that the ropes hanging from the ceiling could loop around his knees. A spreader bar forced them open, a corded vibrator hanging from it and passing over his cock every time the ropes swung.
“Give me verbal answer, малыш. Tell me colour.”
Ludwig groaned, “Green, but my head is feeling funny. I trust you, Teddybär, but are you sure zhis vill feel good?” Mikhail chuckled above him, dragging his leaking dick over Ludwig’s bottom lip.
“You tell me, голубочек. You are doktor here.” Ludwig did not have the time to reply, when the large, girthy penis entered his mouth. It left just as fast as it arrived, soaked in his saliva but leaving him gasping for air.
“Vell,” Ludwig coughed, “Zhere is somezhing about being light headed zhat makes sex more pleasurable. You get zhe same rush vhen I choke you, aheh.” Mikhail’s powerful arms flexed as he grabbed onto the ropes, shoving himself back into Ludwig’s mouth.
“Да, suffocating on your ‘titten’, or being choked by your thighs always make me feel more pleasure.” Ludwig let out a gurgle in agreement, Mikhail’s ballsack smacking against his nose and making it hard to breath. Two thick, naked thighs framed his head as his giant began to thrust in and out. The creaking of the ropes fell in sync with his choking gasps, the vibrator making passes over his manhood like a particularly cruel pendulum. Ludwig forgot what the conversation was about soon enough, when the edges of his vision were beginning to grow dark.
“Feeling lightheaded?” Mikhail’s voice reached him as if through a tunnel, somewhere far above him. The swaying of the ropes was paired with the thrusting of Mikhail’s hips, Ludwig’s mouth flooding with cum before he even had the chance to realise what was happening. Giant, white globs snakes out of his mouth, plopping onto the floor below him and getting into his nose.
Ludwig let out a breath like a deflating balloon, “Gott. Oh Gott. Sir… Gott, sir, bitte.”
Ludwig couldn’t see, he could only hear Mikhail moving away from him and sliding in behind him. His massive, warm hands fell upon Ludwig’s shoulders, before forcing them back painfully, up and up until he was hanging horizontally. Another loop of rope was tightened across his chest, and then another, pressing down on his nipples and pinching them between the cords of baby blue rope. And then the vibrator was pushed right up against his penis, and fastened against his leg so that no matter how he moved, he couldn’t get away from the painful buzzing that made his nerves feel like they were burning.
“Now, you be good boy and stay like this, ok? I have to help Engineer with dinner, I will be back soon, голубочек.” And then the lights of the infirmary switched off.

Surely Medic will notice little Spy's injury from the glass and patch it up and kiss it better :(( He can be upset with him some other time but its not good to hide injuries! That's what Medic is there for!
It wasn't long before Medic realized something was wrong with Spy. He kept not using his right hand.
"Spy, can you come here for a moment, bitte?" Spy quietly toddled over. Medic gently took his hand. There was a large shard of glass in his palm.
"Oh why didn't you tell me you were hurt??" Medic asked, worried. Spy began crying.
"I-I sowwy! I sowwy! No mad pwease!" Spy sobbed.
"I would never be mad at you getting hurt!" Medic hugged him, careful not to put him into more pain.
"I wied! No mad?" Spy asked.
"I promise I'm not mad, but we may need to have a conversation about lying later. Let's get this taken care of, ok?" Medic took a closer look at his hand.
"Oh..you poor thing. You're going to need stitches. You sit right here, ok? I'll go get a friend to make you feel better. Which one do you want?"
"Teddy?"
"Teddy it is!" Medic went and got the beloved teddy bear that Engineer gave him. It even had a hand-made outfit to make it look like Engineer. Medic came back to Spy still in the same position, now sucking on a knuckle.
"Ah. You shouldn't do that. Where's your pacifier?" Spy pointed to the playpen. Medic gave him the bear, grabbed the pacifier, cleaned it, and put it in Spy's mouth. As Medic worked, he kept praising Spy.
"And...there! Now there is just two more things!" Spy tilted his head. Medic had done the stitches and bandaged it, what else could there be? Medic kissed his hand.
"Now, for being such a good patient, you get a treat!" Medic got the bowl of candy he always had ready. He mostly used it for when regressors needed medical attention while little but sometimes used it as a bribe for when people weren't regressed.
"Wowwi?" Spy asked. Medic picked out one he knew Spy loved and unwrapped it for him. Spy took it happily.
"'ank yoos."

Limonin: The Bitter Compound in Citrus Fruits
Limonin and similar compounds are the main contributors to the bitter taste in citrus fruits, predominantly accumulating in the fruits of the Citrus genus, particularly in the seeds. It is a white crystalline substance with a bitter taste. Limonin exhibits certain anti-cancer and antiviral properties along with other beneficial bioactivities.
Basic Information
English Name: Limonin
CAS: 1180-71-8
Molecular Formula: C26H30O8
Molecular Weight: 470.53
Chemical Name: Limonoate D-ring-lactone; Limonoic acid di-delta-lactone
Presence: Found in lemons or other citrus fruits
Characteristics: White crystalline substance with a bitter taste
Extraction Source: Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and tangerines
Solubility: Soluble in ester-based organic solvents, sparingly soluble in water, with higher solubility in methanol and ethanol
Melting Point: 298°C
Specifications: 30%, 90%, 95%, 98%
Detection Method: HPLC
Appearance: Yellow-brown or light yellow or white fine powder Product
Packaging: 1kg/pack; 25kg/cardboard drum; or customized packaging according to customer requirements
Storage: Keep in a sealed container, store in a cool, dry place, ensure good ventilation or exhaust in the workplace
Pharmacological Effects: Limonin and its analogs exhibit various biological activities such as anti-tumor, insect repellent, antiviral, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and sedative
properties Stability: If used and stored according to specifications, it will not decompose, with no known hazardous reactions, avoiding oxidants.
Taste Function
Limonin and similar compounds are the primary cause of bitterness in citrus fruits. Researchers have proposed methods for removing bitterness from products such as bitter orange juice using polymer films. Limonin-like compounds are mainly present in the fruits of Rutaceae plants such as citrus fruits (navel oranges, mandarins, sweet oranges) and grapefruits. They are most abundant in the seeds and less so in the peel (about one in ten thousand to one in fifty thousand). Over fifty limonin-like compounds have been isolated and identified from Citrus plants, including limonin, Nomilin, Deacetylnomilin, Obacunone, and Nomilinic acid, among others, all of which are triterpenoid compounds containing a furan ring.
Bioactivity
Limonin exhibits various biological activities such as anti-tumor, insect repellent, antiviral, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and sedative properties. It can be used in functional food additives, anticancer foods, insecticides, feed additives, etc.
Misconceptions
Although limonin from citrus fruits shows potential in developing anticancer drugs, related research is not yet mature and is far from clinical application. It is certain that claims suggesting limonin “has been proven to treat all types of cancer” are incorrect. Additionally, citrus fruits cannot replace proper cancer treatment methods, and treatment should always follow medical advice.
Methods for Removing Bitterness from Citrus Juice
Metabolism-based Bitterness Removal
It has long been observed that citrus juice extracted from late-harvested fruits is less bitter than that from early-harvested fruits. Inspired by this phenomenon, various methods have been developed to accelerate the metabolism of bitter substances in citrus fruits. Before harvesting, treating citrus trees or whole fruits with derivatives of triethylamine can significantly reduce the content of limonoids in fruits and leaves. It has been reported that using 2-(4-ethylphenoxy)triethylammonium and 2-(3,4-dimethylphenoxy)triethylammonium can significantly inhibit the biosynthesis of limonoid lactone A-ring in young lemon leaves, thereby limiting limonoid production. Experiments have shown that spraying orange groves with 250mg/kg of 2-(4-ethylphenoxy)triethylamine and 250mg/kg of 2-(3,4-dimethylphenoxy)triethylamine can reduce the content of limonoid lactone A-ring in fruits by 50%.
Genetic Engineering for Bitterness Removal
The pomelo glucosidase used in production is a mixed enzyme preparation composed of α-L-rhamnosidase and β-D-glucosidase. It is possible that a decrease or loss of activity in one of the enzymes could lead to a decrease or loss of activity in the entire enzyme preparation. Studies have shown that α-L-rhamnosidase and β-D-glucosidase have different hydrolysis rates for substrates, with the former having a higher hydrolysis rate than the latter. Therefore, separating and using the two enzymes separately could lead to more economical and efficient use of enzyme preparations and facilitate industrial production. In 2000, Ivor Iov et al. cloned the gene encoding α-L-rhamnosidase and successfully expressed it in Escherichia coli. Pomelo glucosidase can effectively remove bitterness without affecting the quality of citrus juice. Enzymatic bitterness removal has the advantages of simple operation, mild conditions, high efficiency, and ease of application, making it favored by citrus juice producers. Therefore, the application of genetic engineering for bitterness removal will be the direction of future development.
Adsorption-based Bitterness Removal
Adsorption bitterness removal selectively removes bitter components from juice using adsorbents. To fully utilize the adsorption function, the adsorbent must have a large surface area, strong affinity for bitter substances, and pore sizes on the surface that match the porous structure of the particles. Various adsorbents such as activated carbon, activated magnesium silicate, silica gel, cellulose acetate, wood adsorbents, and adsorption resins are used. The adsorption capacities of various adsorbents for different components vary. In China, research on removing bitterness from citrus juice using adsorption methods aims to select excellent domestic resins. Chen Jing et al. used large-pore adsorption resin Y7 to remove limonin and found that the optimal process conditions for resin adsorption were: flow rate of 0.75mL/min, elution temperature of 20°C, and eluent of 80% ethanol solution. Xing Jianrong et al. used HZ resin to remove bitterness from pomelo juice. When the resin dosage was 10% of the juice mass, treated at 40°C for 2.5 minutes, it could remove 64.6% of naringin and 76.7% of limonin with minimal loss of nutrients. Zheng Yafeng et al. used LX-900 resin to remove bitterness from grapefruit juice. With a resin dosage of 2% under the original juice pH, a temperature of 10°C, and a bitterness removal time of 60 minutes, the bitterness removal rate of grapefruit juice reached 48.05%, ensuring good flavor characteristics.

Week 0: Willkommen in Aachen

Hallo aus Deutschland! I just arrived in Aachen a few days ago and it has already been a whirlwind of emotions, experiences, and getting to know my new home away from home. Just from these past days, I can already tell what an amazing adventure this summer is setting up to be, and I can’t wait to take my readers along for the ride through these blog posts! So far, I’ve managed to find my way from planes to trains to long walks with my 50 pound suitcase, zero strength and sheer determination all the way to my apartment here in Aachen. It really wasn’t until I started unpacking that it began to sink in that I’m here. In Germany. Researching for the rest of the Summer. (And of course a bit of exploring alongside that).
As a Computer Science Major with a particular interest in cybersecurity, my project titled „Intrusion Detection using Realistic User Behavior“ will be an incredible opportunity to gain insight from established researchers here at RWTH Aachen and learn new dataset generation techniques and softwares in a hands-on fashion. I’ll spare you the technical details for now (though no promises once the project kicks up next week…).
I am also looking forward to the opportunity to apply and build upon my learnings from my German minor in the real-world (though I’m still working on translating content from my courses like German Fashion and Trends and German for Engineers into the things that feel very applicable recently like German Everyday Social Skills and German for Girls Who Just Need Help Navigating the Bus System). Regardless, I am so excited for the opportunity to practice my language skills through conversations with native speakers (though likely ridden with a handful of “Können Sie das bitte wiederholen”s and “Tut mir leid, dass ich es nicht verstehe”s) and to accelerate my proficiency in ways that a textbook never could.
I have always found personally that adapting to the Unfamiliar and adjusting to change is a scary thing. I grew up in a tight-knit family in the small town of Sparta, New Jersey and there was a time when the transition to high school felt intimidating, the concept of attending a college more than a car ride from home felt unacceptable, and the idea of studying abroad was completely unfathomable to me. But somewhere along the road, between surviving all the cliche highschool drama and managing to live independently without burning down my college dorm, I’ve learned that you don’t need to be without fears or doubts to adapt to change and grow from it in doing so.
When I look towards the rest of my Germany experience, I can’t wait to dive head first into research in the area of cybersecurity; to become a true (albeit somewhat less literate) part of the German community in order to experience immersion beyond a tourist-level; and to make memories worth writing about. So, yes, this program will indeed be a great change for me. But it is a change I am beyond excited and ready to embrace. I look forward to taking you all on this journey with me.

What the hell was that? Was that a scream? It sounded unfamiliar, yet the doctor still rose from his desk and threw on his medpack. The medigun was hastily removed from its station and fastened to the pack on his back, the Medic switched it on and a warm, red glow emitted from the nozzle. Vinzenz burst out of the med bay and ran in the direction of the cry, leaving a trail of red haze behind him.
A workshop, perhaps similar to Engineer's, littered with foreign things and projects that he has never seen before. Whether or not assistance was even desired, he pushed through the doors and looked around for the source of the scream. And his crimson gaze found it. A rather grotesque sight of a man and his arm caught in some kind of machinery, but he did not recognize him at all. He was short, elderly, thin and wiry, gray and white hair at jaw length and slicked back neatly. Vinzenz approached immediately, slightly out of breath from dashing down the halls.
"Bitte, mein Herr, do I have permission to assist you?" The question seemed almost rhetorical but this wasn't one of his usual teammates, therefore it was necessary to establish professionalism than to assume he could be informal.
A heart-rending cry comes from the workshop because his arm, which was immersed up to the elbow in the mechanism, was compressed, trapping him.

Fic based on this prompt I got out of Adam

Time to put my favorite skinny boy into situations
Scout had been missing for four days. Everyone was kind of worrying, but when the nauseating smell of death started filling the base, there was a full-blown panic. None of the mercs wanted to believe that the scent they were smelling was the rotting corpse of their friend, but it was becoming clear that that was the only option.
But where?
Where was the body?
This question went unanswered for a whole other day before Engineer’s foot punched through the floor.
There was a hole. Too small for any of the mercs to fall down. All but one.
When Engineer pulled himself out of the hole and shone a flashlight inside, he couldn’t help but cry out.
There, wedged into the hole, was the decomposing corpse of Scout.
Medic quickly arrived, drawn to the sound of Engineer’s yelp. When Medic rounded the corner, he saw Engineer peaking into a hole, his hand over his mouth.
“Herr Engineer? What happened?”
Engineer didn’t speak, he just backed away from the hole and turned away. If his goggles were off, you would have seen the tears in his eyes.
Medic was too curious. He looked. A look of shock, then sadness crossed his face.
“Ah, so that’s the smell.”
Medic looked towards Engineer.
“We’ll have to get him out of there. Help me, bitte”
Medic and Engineer were able to drag Scout’s corpse out of the hole using the electrical chord Engineer always carries. Engineer nearly threw up when his flesh hand brushed the boy’s dead body.
After removing Scout from the hole, Medic sent Engineer out to tell the others what was happening. After Engineer sprinted off (wanting to be nowhere near this horrible event), Medic inspected the hole to see what had happened.
As mentioned before, the hole was too small for the mercs to plausibly fit down, but Scout in his glorious, skinny, double-jointedness had fallen right down. His arms had been trapped in front of his chest. He couldn’t have breathed much. Let alone enough to scream for help. Scout had either suffocated or died of thirst. Either way, Medic felt awful. He passed by this hole many times a day, and yet, he never thought to check it. Could Scout’s death be on his hands?
Medic’s memories became muddled. Hadn't he heard scratching and breathing coming out of the hole in the days past? Had he? Could he have saved Scout if he just looked in the hole?
No, Medic told himself. Scout probably quickly died of asphyxiation. There was no way to save him.
Medic’s head was in his hands by the time Engineer returned with the others. Medic filled them in on the situation, his voice cracking more times than he would have liked. The team gazed at Scout’s body. Then Heavy asked the burning question.
“What do we do with Scout’s body?”
Burial? Cremation? Perhaps something else….
Medic was brewing an idea. A good idea. Or at least, it was in his mind.
“I need a sample from him. I may be able to bring him back.”
(If yall like this I’ll write a part two)
(I’d like to thank the Mr. Ballen “Three places you can’t go and people who went there anyways” series for giving me the best horrible death inspirations. It was hard to pick one)
Hold on let me summon somebody real quick
