July Featured Follower Post!

Congratulations to this month's featured follower, @ravenbarley-barn! It is a long time follower with lots of great comments and I'm so glad to have it in my audience.

The OC it asked me to highlight is Erminestar! He's a serious guy who never expected to be leader but is respected regardless. He recently became mates with his deputy who was very understanding about the kits he brought back to camp a shortly before they got together. We love that for him.

MOON 118: Erminefreeze, deputy of BasilClan under the now dead Weevilstar, travels to StarClan to receive their nine lives. Nervous about being able to lead the clan at only 59 moons old (never quite sure why Weevilstar chose them over other qualified clanmates), Erminestar returns to their clan with a new sense of confidence. And with an aching heart, having seen their two dead kits.

It was on the night of the blue super moon. It was so quiet, very.. quiet. As paws tread into camp, uninvited paws.

"Why do I have to look over Heatherkit?! Guppypaw and Laurelpaw get to watch it!" Sproutpaw whined to Shadowstem.

"This is your punishment, remember that prank you played on her?"

"Ugggghhh...... it wasn't even that bad.."

Summer Coats: Lightclan

In Lightclan, it is very common for cats to have two different coats during the year. The winter coat is usually much denser and longer than the summer coat. Most notable changes in coats can be a complete pelt color change. Only Erminestar’s pelt really does this: it is a recessive genetic trait. Switchclaw would have a pelt color change if he wasn’t albino. 

Erminestar is often mistaken for a different cat during the summer. Cats in the clan enjoy mocking his diminuitive appearance without all of his extra fur. Other leaders also like to joke around about how he looks so different. Anyways, it’s safe to say that Erminestar has never really enjoyed summer.

Switchclaw also sheds a TON of fur before summer. Because of his fur being shorter and less dense during warmer months, more of his scars are visible. This also applies to Erminestar. Switchclaw’s coloration would be similar to Ermine’s in the summer if he wasn’t albino. Switchclaw has a naturally muscular build, so his appearance isn’t changed so drastically. Other cats in other clans find it weird that Lightclanners shed though.

I really like this concept a lot and it is specific to Lightclan cats!! I will do some more pelt hcs for the other clans soon but 4 now this is it.

Leaders

Leaders get nine lives, one of these from the clan founder. The founders are Sun Rays at Dusk, Crown Around Sun, Moon Reflected on Lake, Blinding Lights, and Embers Crawling. 

Leader marks vary by cat. If a mark is malformed, it means the leader did something(things) to upset the Stars. If the mark comes in as a scar, it means the cat SERIOUSLY upset the Stars.

Coldstar is the leader of Duskclan. He is 84 moons old and has 3 lives left. His warrior name was Coldsnap and he was formerly a guard.

Brightstar is the leader of Sunclan. He is 47 moons and has 9 lives left. His warrior name was Brightlight and he was formerly a guard.

Sweetstar is the leader of Moonclan. She is 56 moons old and has 7 lives left. Her warrior name was Sweetmask and she was formerly a hunter.

Erminestar is the leader of Lightclan. He is 65 moons old and has 3 lives left. His warrior name was Ermineflame and he was formerly a stalker.

oh god that is a HARD QUESTION

they are all cowards in their own weird ways, but i would say in terms of overall cowardice? Damn that’s gotta be Erminestar. 

He’s one who will not take responsibility for his actions. He also is all talk and no action. He’s easily pushed around and bended to do as a superior pleases. Though this isn’t evident, his former mentor influenced a lot of his terribleness. Anyways he’s gay and homophobic. A little bitch boy he deserves no sympathy

Age: 64 moons

Status: Head guard (alive)

Bio:

Pineprickle has always been very close with Erminestar. Even as kits, they were inseparable. Pineprickle always likes to assume that there is good in everyone. Maybe he is right. He doesn’t know. 

Early into their apprenticehoods, Erminestar was very ambitious and almost suspicious to some, but this didn’t deter Pineprickle. He genuinely believes Ermine is a good cat, and that he doesn’t know how to really execute his ideas correctly. Pineprickle stuck with Erminestar, even as he grew more suspicious. He even helped Erminestar cover up the blatant slaughter of the previous leader and deputy, Thriftstar and Otterswipe. Pineprickle feels obligated to love Erminestar in a sense. He feels threatened by him at this point and is afraid he will be killed if he leaves him. He is very protective of his son, Switchclaw, and doesn’t want Erminestar to be a bad influence on him.

Pineprickle fought Flareflicker for his spot as top guard when he was 32 moons old. He won and Flareflicker was actually forced to retire because of how old he was.

Other notes:

- He smells like those pine forest yankee candles. It’s kinda overpowering. Makes him ridiculously easy to track.

- He still believes that there is good in Erminestar. He hopes.

- He decorates his pelt with pine cones on full moons.

- He is a comically terrible hunter.

- He has a very muscular build and Switchclaw takes after him a ton in that sense.

- He is embarrassed of how long his neck is. He doesn’t like the summer for this reason.

- He wants to rebel against Erminestar, but doesn’t know where he would start.

- He is genuinely scared of death. He fears going Below for loving a cat as malicious and cruel as Erminestar. He feels like he is responsible for enabling Erminestar. 

- He likes to chase seagulls for fun. He also enjoys swimming a lot.

- He has anisocoria in his right eye because of an injury he obtained as a young warrior.

Name: Switchclaw

Age: 20 moons

Status: Lightclan guard (alive)

Mentor: Groundtalon (deputy, alive)

Father: Pineprickle (alive, Lightclan)

Bio:

- Switchclaw was born to two extremely powerful Lightclan cats and, from an early age, was raised accordingly. He was always held on a pedestal in some way, and he *hated* it. He constantly tried getting in trouble just to be treated like any other kit, but none of it exactly worked. He was extremely rambunctious and nonchalant as a kit, and other cats thought he would grow out of it. They were wrong.

- Erminestar appointed Switchpaw to Groundtalon. They did not get along well. Groundtalon was always a very gruff cat, and didn’t tolerate any sort of games in his training. Switchpaw was always very instigating and intense, turning anything into an argument, a game, or a mental challenge. However, he did excel in fighting, to Groundtalon’s advantage. Switchclaw loved Groundtalon because to him, Grountalon treated him like a normal apprentice, not sugarcoating anything or holding him on a perch. Groundtalon was a reluctant father figure to Switchpaw.

- During the battle between Lightclan and Duskclan for the Basking Flats, a cocky young Switchpaw decided to take on Russetblight, the big bad deputy of Duskclan. Not a good idea clearly. Russetblight got a little too rough with the little guy and accidentally killed him. However, Switchpaw didn’t die. The Stars said it wasn’t his time and revived him. Needless to say, that was a traumatic event for him.

- Switchpaw became Switchclaw at 10 moons old. He immediately rose through the ranks as a guard, and was known for his malicious battle techniques and reckless yet effective fighting. Switchclaw also began to see Below spirits around this time, who regularly contacted him during the day and at night. This has taken a toll on his mental health.

- Currently, Switchclaw has a terrible relationship with Erminestar and would like to be the one to overthrow him. He also would like to attack multiple clan leaders, but that is just because he wants to be better than them.

Other notes:

- He is albino.

- Nicknames of his include: Rabbit, Snowball, Zombie, Weasel, Oracle

- He’s not very intelligent. He struggles with critical thinking skills. He is very wise, though.

- He pretends to know what causes other cats’ deaths just to get favors from them sometimes. It usually works because of how vague he is.

- His eyes are ridiculously sensitive. He avoids direct sunlight when he can.

- He knows how to faint on command. He likes to do this to play dead sometimes. It isn’t good.

- He’s fallen from heights multiple times, and doesn’t intend on stopping. 

- He has no impulse control. Not even Groundtalon can do anything.

- He loves Pineprickle and would kill for him. That’s his dad don’t mess with him. He likes that Pineprickle gives him the attention he craves that Erminestar never gave him.

- He’s... kinda small. At least for Lightclan standards. Lightclan cats are usually just like... gigantic. They dwarf Emberclan cats, who tend to be far smaller. 

- He likes to say phrases like “i can smell colors” when he is tired. Doveface, who has synesthesia, is annoyed by this.

- His eyesight is surprisingly good for an albino cat. 

- He likes to chase animals with large sticks when he is bored. Think of that video of the dude chasing the cops with the large stick. That is Switchclaw.

- Switchclaw was named for his peculiar stance. He likes to stand with his front paws crossing.

Oh yeah a scene

Context: Saffronpaw spied on a couple Lightclan cats and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and let them go. She ended up telling Squirrelpaw (reddish molly) because they are besties and she felt guilty abt it. Squirrelpaw freaked out abt it and grabbed Yellowpaw (big grey tom) to come and help them track down the Lightclan cats. Squirrelpaw is only really doing this to try and receive credit for “doing the right thing”. She kinda guilted Saffronpaw into taking action abt it and both Saffron and Yellow are worried abt this not being the right decision. 

The two cats that stole prey were Erminestar and Pineprickle. 

But yeah this was rlly fun 2 make!! Also Squirrelpaw will become Squirrelsnarl (manipulation abilities and passive aggressive nature) and Yellowpaw becomes Yellowstare (duh becuz he is intimidating and has yellow eyes GSJVv) but anyways yeah!! I am kinda proud of myself for this and it was tons of fun to create!!
