okay so you know how we’ve all talked about the most unhinged ff.net reviews we’ve gotten? And a lot of us have left the site because of how people behave over there?
something glorious just happened.
thejilyship is wonderful writer and I've enjoyed all of her other stories. Before I criticize this story I have to apologize for not leaving a review for her stories that I found really entertaining and simply captivating. So I post this review with a heavy heart... This is one of the most dreadful story I've ever read. I advocate for women's rights because I personally know the damage wrought upon women and children because of patriarchy and domestic abuse. So I full-heartedly support the author for trying to drive that point home by describing a princess who believes in equal rights for young women and her dilemma in deciding to marry just so she can keep the crown and continue fighting for changes that she wants for her kingdom. But the author fails to realize that this story isn't just about feminism and supporting the idea that women should occupy high places in goverment and private administration. This is a story about love. And I'm sorry to say that love is under-represented in this story. At the every beginning of this promising story Lily develops feelings for someone(Bertram) who she isn't engaged to(James). Even knowing about this James, who is supposed to be really hurt ( atleast as hurt as he should be) when coming to know about this fact is not hurt but infact takes it upon himself to change the princess' heart. Some may be into this kind of romance but if you logically think about this situation you would understand that both James and Lily are practically strangers. If a stranger whom I agreed to marry develops feelings for someone else and I came to know about this, I would definitely cancel the marriage. But James agrees to go through with this. So I can only conclude that either he is so in love with her already that he is not willing to give her up without a fight or he is conceited enough to think he can change a stranger's feelings( It doesn't matter that she is being played by Bertram because at the end of the day she has indeed developed feelings for him). That too the stranger being a princess. OR He just wants to be a king so badly that he decides to go with it. But the author has not explored the third possibility, so I can easily eliminate the last option. This brings us to the conclusion that James agreed to marry Lily because he is either a fool to have fallen falsely in love with a compete stranger in a matter of days or is just another arrogant arsehole who thinks he can change any women's heart with his charm. Both of them aren't very positive projections of James Potter. If we go with the second option, we are forced to see that he is no better than Bertram who tries to sabotage Lily's goal to retain the crown with his own brand of smarm and charm. So he is actually not the very good bloke that story so clearly tries to define him as. So we are left with the first option that James is not a strong character in this plot. We are indeed very right with this conclusion because the story is fraught with reminders of this fact. Lily continues to lament the fact, that she is being forced to marry when she is not ready to marry, throughout the story. She even does this to James who very clearly understands her and says that she is upset with the situation and not him so he doesn't take it personally. This is utter bullshit because anyone in their right mind would actually take offence or atleast a little hurt at this even if they understand it because the person whom you are in love with doesn't want to marry you but is being forced to and we've already established that James is the fool who fell in love with a complete stranger in a matter of days. The author knows this would be a point of contestation among her readers and she is clearly seen to avoid this by repeatedly explaining from James's perspective that he understands that Lily is upset with the situation and not him. Finally we come to the ending of this story. We are all truly shocked with Lily's decision to not marry James despite being in love with him. She cancels this wedding because she wants to marry James on her own terms and not because she is forced to marry him. I mean... if you aren't going to marry someone even if you love them then clearly you aren't going to marry them just because you have to. Then it means that Lily had no intention of marrying James in the first place. If the readers of this review bring about the reason saying that Lily only realised this at the very end then it makes things even worse because it means that this is a very clear case of getting cold feet and not some divine realisation that Lily had at the end. Even then our sweet James continues to understand that Lily just had the problem of deciding when she wanted to marry him and not if she wanted to marry him. He is not offended or humiliated by the fact that she annouced to the people gathered at the wedding that she just decided to not go through with marrying him and left him high and dry. A decision that she made on her own. Even if he knows that that decision affects him as well...he is still understanding... I wouldn't be surprised if she cheats on him and says that she did it because she was under pressure of dealing with the parliament in the sequel and the author justifies it by saying he is still understanding because he knows being a Queen isn't an everyday job and Lily really was under a lot of pressure and she just wanted an outlet for her stress and fuck someone else who isn't him for a change. The story continues to describe Lily's feeling and her feelings alone because the theme of the story is whether or not will Lily succumb to pressure of marriage for the sake of keeping her Crown. This is not a Jily centric story and the author has competely forgotten this fact that it should be one. The character of James who should be Lily's equal and one true love( because thats how a true jily story would have been) is just reduced to an understanding friend. My recommendation to readers who come across this fic would be to proceed cautiously. If you are expecting a whrilwind romance then you are going to be sorely disappointed. But if your favourite character is Lily Evans Potter and only her, then this story is a godsend for you people.

I said I’d post more episode 7 thoughts eventually. Well that time is now! Long post about speculation/interpretation/explanation/headcanons on what chipping is like under the cut.
I have decided to politely look away from how chipping is done, as the machine doesn’t really... make sense. The box goes over the front of your head, but the chip is on the back. So unless the box is actually going over people’s entire heads or it’s grabbing there face, I have no clue how that works.
Moving on!
Getting chipped feels like a heavy punch to the back of your head except that punch has knives. And it’s the kind of hit that makes your whole head hurt, even your eyes.
Nothing you do from now on is out of your own will. Even your thoughts are being controlled. A person whose chipped does know what’s going on, but they wont perceive it or process it. All they can think of is to follow orders. Fighting back doesn’t work (in most situations) except to let you be more aware of the situation besides “Do what PAMA is telling you to.” Being chipped also makes it so no one gets tired. And PAMA doesn’t feel the injuries that people would get, so it keeps pushing people to keep moving or fighting when they really shouldn’t be. It just isn’t useful to be hurt. But with PAMA’s help, no one will be out of commission because of injuries again!
When a person gets unchipped, that’s when the memories of what happened hit.
Unchipping by water leaves the worst injuries- that thing was inside a person’s head, it’ll leave a mark! And this is the worst one. The water breaks the chip, and the chip’s response to that is to shock whatever is trying to break it. It can’t find anything, so it just shocks the person instead. The force of the shock and the chip breaking is what gets it to pop off.
So, let’s add that together; being electrocuted, the constant dull headache from the chip, the memories and thoughts hitting like a truck, your body suddenly realizing that it’s in control again, all that is enough to make a person extremely fatigued and out of it.
Also, PAMA being able to download a person’s memories can go both ways- kind of. The human isn’t downloading anything, just perceiving. Like what Petra (I’ve always unchipped Petra first so I’ll be using her as an example) said, she said she remembered the redstone spires. And she remembered they were important. Petra wouldn’t have known they were important unless she knew from PAMA.
Now, moving onto the final battle of episode 7. Once the Redstone Heart is pulled out a little bit, Lukas (like I mentioned with Petra, he’s always been the one still chipped here) starts to get control back. The first time that he appears to be hurt by this wasn’t on purpose, it was just that the forced severing of that connection did hurt. The second time, when he gets electrocuted, that was on purpose to try and make it easier for PAMA to keep control. Now Lukas actually has a chance of succeeding in fighting for control!
If being chipped was already a headache, this is even worse. PAMA is now 100% concentrated on trying to control Lukas so that it can kill Jesse. You heard him, he said his head felt like it was on fire. Kind of like... an overheating computer! He is in so much pain yet he manages to stay in control enough to hold onto to the ledge.
And then... unchipping because of PAMA dying. So like. You know that feeling when you suddenly get jumpscared? The whole shock that runs through your body? The variation that actually kinda hurts? That's what the citizens of Crown Mesa felt before all blacking out for a few seconds. The chips didn’t pop out like the did with the water unchipping, everyone had to pull them out themselves.
It wasn’t that simple for Lukas, however. Remember how I said PAMA was 100% concentrated on him? The connection with the rest of Crown Mesa being severed was like breaking a small string. But the connection with Lukas being severed was like cutting a thick rope. Yeah, I don’t wanna keep saying “it hurt” over and over again, I won’t repeat myself.
And this part is just speculation, but I noticed that when PAMA flat lined, pama-as-lukas screamed after that. Which gave me and my friend the idea that in the last few seconds as a desperate attempt to survive, PAMA tried to upload itself into Lukas’ chip. It didn’t work.
So combining all of those things I mentioned as well as getting hurt while fighting Jesse (they tried their best not to hurt him) no wonder Lukas went unconscious instead of just blacking out.
Kind of an abrupt way to end this but uh. Yeah!
I feel like a lot of people gloss over the fact that both Lukas and Petra had redstone take over their minds for awhile. Like, come on, that’s gotta have some long lasting effects, both physical and psychological. And with the latter, I don’t think either of them are gonna admit that. (You can even see it at the end of episode 7 if Jesse brings up PAMA and Lukas looks upset, and they apologize and Lukas quickly goes ‘it’s fine!’. He is not fine but he is hiding it. Especially because I picked the ‘this is all my fault!’ dialogue option earlier, he doesn’t want Jesse to blame themself again :( okay I’m getting off topic I can talk about the characters themselves in another post. This was supposed to be about chipping!)
