strong enough, kevin gilbert (2021).
for kevin it probably was [a rip on sheryl crow], but for me, we owned the publishing... so why not a gay disco version of ['strong enough'], so it’s played in clubs all over europe. and yeah, maybe it will piss off sheryl! the aim was not to piss off sheryl, we thought it was funny for a guy to sing "are you strong enough to be my man." kind of like a tribute to the village people. kind of a joke village people thing. we thought if it gets played in clubs, we get the publishing. we thought it was so clever, people might buy it. brian macleod.

Children of Palomar and Other Tales(the fifteenth volume in our Complete Love and Rockets Library omnibuses and the eighth Gilbert volume) begins with "Me for the Unknown," uncollected since its original 2001-2004 run in Love and Rockets Vol. II comic books. Written by Mario Hernandez and drawn by Gilbert Hernandez, it traces the Rabelaisian journey of Tagg Lillard. Also collected: one of their joints from 2008, "Chiro el Indio." In The Children of Palomar suite of short stories (2006-2007; collected in 2013), there are many mysterious visitors, an apparition that haunts childless women, and readers learn how Chelo lost her eye. And in Julio's Day, which originally ran from 2001-2008 and was collected in 2013, a man's life-threaded with war, loss, illness, and forbidden love-spans a century.

The Chuckling Whatsit HC -  Richard Sala
The 1997 magnum opus of the late Richard Sala, master of graphic noir, has been out of print for years and is now available in hardcover for the very first time.
Sala weaves the gothic cartooning traditions of Edward Gorey and Charles Addams with a melodramatic murder mystery involving astrology, ghouls, academia, and outsider art. Part noir, part horror, and part comedy, this labyrinthine tale of intrigue follows an unemployed writer named Broom who becomes ensnared unwittingly in a complex plot involving mysterious outsider artist Emile Jarnac, the shadowy machinations of the Ghoul Appreciation Society Headquarters (GASH), and the enigmatic Mr. Ixnay. Sala's deadpan delivery makes this ingeniously layered narrative a roller-coaster ride of darkly pure comic suspense. Sala's drawing style also reveals the influence of everything from Hollywood monster movies and Dick Tracy to German expressionism and Grimm's fairy tales. It's a style that's perfectly suited to the narrative, constantly flirting with Sala's fascination for the grotesque and lending palpable tension to the gruesome riddle of The Chuckling Whatsit.

I. Executive Summary
Brothers Maurice and Richard McDonald opened the first ever McDonald’s Restaurant in 1948 at San Bernardino, California. They are originally focused on burgers, fries, and shakes and offered it  half the price of their competitors. This eventually caught Ray Kroc’s attention. He was the one to supply the restaurant when it started. Because of his amusement, he then formed the McDonald’s Corporation and opened his first franchised restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois later on.
This paper aims to identify five important parts that contributed in the huge success of McDonald’s today:
Internal Assessment
External Assessment
Strategy Formulation
Strategy Recommendation
Action Plan
Align with the strategic management of McDonald’s, this paper also includes the reason why a company’s strategies and decisions are very crucial in maintaining the state of the company to be sustainable for its stakeholders in the long run.
II.  Internal Assessment
A.  Corporate profile
Raymond Albert Kroc was an American businessman. He joined the California company McDonald's in 1954, after the McDonald brothers had franchised nine locations out of their original 1948 operation in San Bernardino (Wikipedia).
McDonald's is the largest food service company in the world. They generate more than $40 billion in sales. We have over 30,000 restaurants across six continents in over 100 countries. We have the advantages of size and a good financial position. We own one of the most well-known and valued brands in the world. In restaurant operations, real estate, retailing, marketing, and franchising, we have an unrivaled global infrastructure and competencies. In terms of social responsibility, we are a market leader. In 1948, the brothers launched the "Speedee Service System," expanding on the ideals of the modern fast-food restaurant pioneered by their predecessor White Castle more than two decades before.   The original McDonald's mascot was "Speedee," a chef hat on top of a hamburger. The Golden Arches took over as the universal mascot in 1962, replacing Speedee. Ronald McDonald, the clown mascot, was first unveiled in 1965. He featured in advertisements to appeal to the children's market.
McDonald's began to really take off in the early 1960s. McDonald's popularity was boosted by the growth of automobile use in the United States, which combined with suburbanization. Ray Kroc the founder of McDonalds bought out the McDonald brothers for $2.7 million in 1961, with the aim of making McDonald's the country's number one fast-food chain. McDonald's Corporation has not only grown to become the world's largest fast-food restaurant company since its launch in 1955, but it has also changed Americans' eating habits and, increasingly, the preferences of non-Americans. In any given day, over 46 million people feast at one of the company's 31,000 restaurants, which are distributed across 119 countries on six continents. Around 9,000 of the restaurants are owned and operated by the company; the rest are managed by franchisees or in joint ventures with local entrepreneurs. In 2003, systemwide sales (which include combined profits from all three categories of restaurants) exceeded $46 billion.
B. Company Mission and Vision
Vision
“To move with velocity, to drive profitable growth and become an even better McDonald’s serving more customers delicious food each day around the world.”
Mission
“To make delicious feel-good moments easy for everyone.”
McDonald’s corporation provides concern to its community through serving high pleasant to the taste foods for people to enjoy eating with available convenient store hours and locations worldwide, budget-friendly prices but does not compromise the taste and service quality, and prioritize customers’ expectations. McDonald’s does not just simply provide foods, they serve great moments that allows consumers to feel good and lighthearted.

Since the company is established globally, there are differences in the menu offered depending on the countries, some restaurants have the specific product compared to the others. This is due to the distinction of consumer behaviors that affects the menu provided. Also, the company provides limited products on a seasonal basis that effectively allure consumers due to its exclusive offers. The main product line of the company consists:

In New Zealand, meat pies are offered as it is a local favorite. McDonald’s have been able to adopt and innovate the products they offer to the market depending on the preferences of its consumers across the world. Thus,  the company has nothing to worry about but still can further develop what needs more improvement.
III. External Assesment
Tumblr media
The figure  portrays the five forces analysis of McDonald’s Corporation that assesses its external factors and its effects in order to determine a corporate strategy. Upon evaluating its competitive condition, the intensities established for McDonald’s Corporation’s analysis are the following:
Strong Force for Competitive Rivalry
Weak Force for Bargaining Power of Suppliers
Strong Force for Bargaining Power of Consumers
Strong Force for Threat of Substitution
Moderate Force for Threat of Entrants
Competitive Rivalry (Strong Force)
As several multinational and local food establishments offer almost similar variety of menus, the market situation leads to a more intensive rivalry. Due to this, a level of saturation has been developed and created a tougher competition within the market. Fast-food restaurants such as Jollibee, KFC, Burger King, Wendy’s and the other local restaurants in different countries are some of the competitors of McDonald’s and these firms placed a great emphasis on efficient advertisements, introducing of new deals, and widening of access for potential consumers through providing extensive franchises globally. The increasing number of competitors as well as its aggressiveness caused a strong consideration in the strategy of McDonald’s Corporation.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Weak Force)
The raw materials used by McDonald’s Corporation such as chicken meats, potatoes, and any other kitchen essentials are available in a relatively large scale of suppliers. Additionally, as the firm purchases a massive order on a regular basis, several suppliers would be much willing to coordinate with them. Negotiation of terms by suppliers is not applicable in McDonald’s strategic management as they can shift in ease with only minimal switching cost. Thus, there is a weak force in relation to bargaining power of suppliers for the corporation.
Bargaining Power of Consumers (Strong Force)
The consumers of the McDonald’s have several restaurant alternatives to choose over from the market. If the products or services offered by the corporation failed to meet the expectations of its consumers, no matter if they are loyal, new, or potential buyers, they can divert from any of the competitors with ease and largely affect their operations. As consumers may object to any price-related concerns such as price increase and shift from one restaurant to another, the customer loyalty of McDonald’s has a possibility to decrease. Therefore, developing strategies to retain consumers is crucial for the corporation that makes the bargaining power of the consumers strong.
Threat of Substitution (Strong Force)
Different varieties of products and services are readily available in the market and can affect the strategies of McDonald’s Corporation. Foods such as traditional or local, home-cooked meals, foods offered by other fast-food restaurants that are out of ordinaries, and even bakeries can be a potential alternative for what the firm has to provide to its consumers. With regards to quality and customer satisfaction, these substitutes equip competitiveness and focused emphasis that leads into a more intense rivalry and switching from alternatives does not require any cost to consumers. In addition, health concerns regarding the McDonald’s menu have been brought up as it was considered as “unhealthy meals” and later on cause health-related problems which was a factor consumers can consider to divert to the competitors. This external factor revealed that a strong force is evident in the threat of substitution.
Threat of Entrants (Moderate Force)
New competitors in the market have several barriers to break in order to threaten McDonald’s competitive advantages. As the corporation has already successfully built their brand name internationally, the entrants have a long journey to undergo to be on par with McDonald’s. These include investment in capital and in time, profitable economic scale establishment, developing an efficient supply chain, and a large-scale marketing approach in order to gain recognition from a wider range of potential consumers that plays an essential role in a firm’s success. The conditions in the market are one of the most challenging for newly established businesses as they have to excel and have an outstanding performance. Thus, it depicts that there is only a moderate force in the threat of entrants in McDonald’s strategic management.

IV.  Strategy Formulation
A. Boston Consulting Group Matrix
Tumblr media

The need for strategy, in order to expand its existing product in a very promising market for McDonalds is very essential. McDonalds and other major fast food chains have dominated the American continent as well as elsewhere. Since 1940, McDonalds has been a largest fast food chain restaurant serving nearly 47 million customers daily and more than 31,000 customers in 199 countries worldwide. They sell various fast food items and soft drinks including burgers, chicken, salads, fries and ice creams. Especially in countries with large populations and high development rates, McDonalds uses BCG Matrix to analyze what is the current position of the company and identify that the company has the potential to grow in the fast food market.
Star
In the BCG Matrix of McDonalds, as we can see above the figure that according to the research, we came to know that McDonalds McFlurry is the star product of the company because of its high market share with the maximum market growth. The company makes money in that particular product with high investment in marketing, promotion and advertisement of the product. The company should invest more money in that product so that they can convert it into a cash cow product.
Cash Cow
In this quadrant, we can analyze that McDonalds McChicken, Fish-o-Fillet, Burgers, Sundae and Fries are the cash cows of the company because the company makes maximum profit in those products but with less cash consuming on its marketing and other departments. This product has already established its market growth, so that the company does not need to invest that much money but the company has to be alert if the cash cow products lose its appeal then it goes to the decline and might be wiped out from the market.
Dog
In this quadrant, we can observe that McDonald's Coffee is the dog product of the company with the less relieved market share and less market growth rate. Basically, this product is the charm product of the company because the company is not investing that much money to bring it into the market to increase their market share. The company is sustaining this product only on this hope that they can make it star otherwise if they are unable to do so they have to off shelf this product from the product life cycle and liquidate in the market.
Question Mark
In this phase of the BCG Matrix of McDonalds, there is a product which is named as McDonalds Chocodip Sundae is the breakeven product of the company because that product has minimum market share with the high market growth rate. Understanding that statement we can assume that this product has good market value but not generating that much revenue but if the company starts investing more and more money in that specific product, we can convert it into our star product and if the company does not do that then this product must also liquidate into the market and wipe out from the product life cycle.
Conclusion - BCG Matrix Analysis
The analysis of the BCG Matrix above depicts that newly launched McChocoDip is in the question mark quadrant because of its high growth but low market share. McDonald’s McFlurry will appear as a star due to their high market share and sales growth. Ice cream, fries and different deals are cash cows products due to their high market shares but low on sales growth. Tea, coffee and apple pie become dog due to its low market share and sales growth.
B. Strategic Position and Action Evaluation Matrix (SPACE Matrix)
Tumblr media
SPACE Matrix Analysis
Aggressive, Conservation, Defensive, Competitive are the four strategies belonging to the four quadrants of the Strategic Position and Action Evaluation Matrix.
The SPACE Matrix analysis functions upon two internal and two external strategic dimensions in order to determine the organization’s strategic posture in the industry. The SPACE Matrix is based on four areas of analysis.
Internal strategic dimensions:
Financial Strength (FS)
Competitive Advantage (CA)
External strategic dimensions
Environmental Stability (ES)
Industry Strength (IS)
Every business is also affected by the environment in which it operates. SPACE Matrix factors related to business external strategic dimensions are for example overall economic condition, GDP growth, inflation, price elasticity, technology, barriers to entry, competitive pressures, industry growth potential and others.
McDonald’s focuses on the change of cash flow and income so that both of them will get the highest ranking in financial strength (FP). On the other hand, there were some troubles about the inflation rate in a few countries (SP). However, its strength in industry (IP) is very good at profit potential and growth potential because fast food became a trend in the modern world. It has to consider market share (CP).
Tumblr media
McDonald’s should have aggressive strategy for its business:
Forward Integration
Product Development (set up more healthier food
C.     Grand Strategy Matrix
Tumblr media
Grand Strategy Matrix Analysis
McDonalds has a strong competitive position against their competitors but their market growth is slow so it is placed at Quadrant III in the Grand Strategy Matrix, it is suggested that McDonalds should have diversification strategies, unrelated diversification and joint ventures.
D. Internal - External Matrix
Tumblr media
Internal-External Matrix Analysis
The Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) Matrix has a total weighted score of 2.8 and the External Factor Evaluation (EFE) Matrix has a total weighted score of 2.79. The outcome of the IFE and EFE total weighted scores shows that it falls on the Hold and Maintain and the company’s strategies are to be focused on market development and product development but other strategies should also be considered.
E.     Strength - Weaknesses - Opportunities - Threats Analysis

F. Quantitative Strategies Planning Matrix
McDonalds' market share is slowly decreasing, and their production process is in reduction as a result of the fast food industry's many rivals. They can't obtain any more market share, so they'll have to develop a new plan for the market. To define key strategic considerations for the QSPM matrix, we use the EFE and IFE matrix.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Attractiveness Score: 1 = not acceptable; 2 = possibly acceptable; 3 = probably acceptable; 4 = most acceptable; 0 = not relevant)
We point to a 5.75 score for a strong brand name, image, reputation, introduction of a new product, attracting customers, place, promotion and strength to the global presence because these factors will absolutely be related to successful expansion of the company. Moreover, expanding in new markets will be deeply relevant to the introduction of new flavors and tastes for health-conscious people and the price of its products. Demand for free-wifi will attract more customers so that support for the feasibility of the strategy.
V. Strategy Recommendation and Action Plan
Strategy & Financial Objects
Mcdonald's is one of the most prominent fast-food restaurants globally. It keeps up its commitment to giving reasonable food products, convenience, fast service, and satisfying the customers. Therefore, Mcdonald's came up with the strategy of expanding the cashless or paperless payment to all its consumers; the vibe ought to rouse a pleasant and inviting environment for consumers. It should develop a strategy of proceeding with its worldwide extension into two modern markets. These present new products will adjust the culture and conventions of the existing new markets and have better relations between the employees and consumers.
Strategic Objectives
Time Management
It is essential to manage time powerfully to guarantee that Mcdonald's runs smoothly and give the consumer a fast and better service; to prevent many consumers from waiting, each employee should have a specific job or work in the restaurant and should never mix up with other tasks and will have a lot of workload around the restaurant. Time management framework should be utilized in all exercises to supply our consumers' most excellent efficiency and viability; it not only achieves a goal but can make a consumer satisfied.
Maintain High-Quality Products
Mcdonald's should constantly have fresh, excellent, and high-quality products to give to its consumers. Furthermore, it should also have all products meet the standard of brilliance guidelines; it increases the restaurant's growth and lessens consumers to find new convenient food restaurants. Thus, making sure employees sanitize their workplace and themselves before putting all the products to their destined places. Packaging and appearance should always look elegant and applicable to the consumer's eyes.
Healthy and New Products
To increase the growth and profit of Mcdonald's, it should have not only non-healthy products or food but also healthy and beneficial to every consumer.  Some consumers prepare to buy a budget-friendly prize and healthy food to maintain their shapes and maintain their diet, giving consumers healthy products like vegan foods can increase consumers loyalty. Not only that but Mcdonald's should also consider advertisements or collabs products that are in demand at the present moment; it should not only for kids but also for adults because many consumers have habits of collecting many products like toys and stuff.
Employees Growth
Engaging employees implies contributing within the most significant gaining potential accessible. Instruction and training are among the most grounded devices a proprietor can provide to staff individuals to assist them in succeeding and can be paired with the group gaining objectives to form a group culture inside the commerce. It could benefit not only the employees but also make the consumer have a satisfying service. These could help both Mcdonald's growth but also their employee's growth.
Financial Objectives
When it comes to the money-related angle, Mcdonald's primary purpose is to extend its revenue and legitimate allocation of its budgetary assets, better taste of their food products, and prioritize purchasers' expectations.  Above all, one thing that ought to be acknowledged is the proper advancement of commerce when it comes to income. Appropriate promotion of the trade comes with enhancing deals since it'll pull in more customers, giving more advertisements and collaborations or eye-catching products to attract more customers. Whether a new product is introduced or old foods are recreated or reintroduced, the product must be one that consumers have been expecting and requiring. Thus, placing new products necessitates a suitable price, providing them high-quality products and a budget-friendly price.
Recommended Business Strategies
Mcdonald's has been quickly extending and growing for the last few years. During the pandemic, it must focus on the paperless payment method or strategy to ensure the quality of its service. Employees should also consider maintaining a positive atmosphere towards their customers; it will build up their characteristics and growth. They must recognize their shortcomings or the zones where they confront difficulties when working as a group—shifting their focus on making a new product and boosting advertisements that could catch the eye of its consumer. The business is also growing and benefits by having collaborations with other companies, and it could also help their revenue.
Since the beginning of 2020, McDonald's offers were up to about 4% in premarket exchange. The stock, which encompasses an advertising cap of about $167 billion, has risen about 10%. Still, Mcdonald's should also invest in their digital or modern way to serve customers, using mobile ordering and cashless payments to create more accessible, faster, and even better customer service. Moreover, they need to increase their advertising share by branching out to new undiscovered markets.
Due to the pandemic, many restaurants have no choice but to shut their door for losing revenue and consumers.  However, Mcdonald's gains more opportunities with their interest; they could grab the chance to increase their sales by providing its consumers with the fastest and good service. They could also collaborate with celebrities to advertise their new or existing product; customers will be attracted to their products, affecting their income in a good way.
Mcdonald's growth and sales during 2020 up to this year are profoundly driven by the rise in value-conscious shoppers willing to use the fastest and easiest way to get food. Many customers don't have any time to cook or go outside because of loaded work, and they are working from their home cause of the ongoing pandemic. Therefore, it does increase the sales and growth of Mcdonald's.
Recommended Organizational Strategies
Mcdonald's expands its market share and franchise and provides a better way to improve its service and employees. It should have the efficiency of commerce and quality of assistance offered. Develop group aptitudes and rates, give legitimate preparation to workers, and recognize their qualities and shortcomings. In this manner, identifying qualities and shortcomings seems to offer assistance to progress their abilities and move forward their character advancement; they may greatly benefit their customers. Also, they need to understand that there are different cultures where their franchise is located. To address this kind of matter, they can train their employees on cross-cultural management. They must consider employees to have good time management and give them their specific objectives without over-burdening work and varied tasks.
Some customers are health-conscious, and they prefer the healthy and more effective way to maintain their diet.  Since Mcdonald's is a fast-food restaurant, they mainly serve unhealthy and health risk food. With Mcdonald's goal to improve their customers' loyalty and to serve great moments that permit consumers to feel good and joyous, they could bring up new products such as vegan foods and diet foods that the customers prefer. Food delivery and drive-thru, especially during this pandemic, surprisingly increase because customers must stay at home. Therefore, improving their delivery and drive-thru using modern ways like cashless payment could make it easier and faster for their customers.
VI. Conclusion

Carmody Groarke creates "intriguing atmospheric" entrance to Science and Industry Museum
Architecture studio Carmody Groarke has designed a lower-level entrance and gallery space at a science museum in Manchester, UK.
Envisioned as the first part of the Science and Industry Museum's long-term renovation plan, Carmody Groarke revamped the institution's lowest floor adding a Special Exhibitions Gallery, foyer and additional visitor entrance.
Carmody Groarke created a lower-level entrance to the Science and Industry Museum
The entrance on the lower ground floor of the 19th century New Warehouse building connects the museum with the Lower Yard and creates a new route through the institution.
To draw attention to this entrance, which is located under a vaulted railway viaduct, and differentiate it from the surrounding industrial architecture the studio framed it with backlit fibre-glass panels.
The entrance is framed by backlit fibre-glass panels
"The new entrance makes the route across the overall museum site more legible and attractive by rehabilitating spaces where visitors were previously not attracted to go," said studio co-founder Andy Groarke.
"The backlit fibre-glass panels create a strong counterpoint to the weighty and enduring Victorian infrastructure and architecture," he told Dezeen.
The fibre-glass panels continue in the foyer
Each of the full-height fibre-glass panels, which continue into the foyer area and wrap around a multipurpose events space, were designed to bring light into the dark basement areas.
They were hand-cast and tinted a terracotta hue to complement the surrounding Victorian brickwork and can be removed to maintain the historic fabric beneath.
Alongside the foyer is a multipurpose space
"The fibre-glass creates an intriguing atmospheric effect," said Carmody Groarke architect Ana Maria Ferreira.
"Its translucent quality allowed us to create a universal indirect light source around both the external entrance and the front-of-house space, uplifting a dark and uninviting part of the existing building to make it more inviting," she told Dezeen.
This space can be used for events
Beyond the foyer space, the 725-square-metre Special Exhibitions Gallery has a different character to the entrance areas.
The gallery was stripped back to reveal the five-metre-high cast-iron and brick vaulted ceiling and cast-iron columns that support railway tacks above.
The Special Exhibitions Gallery has a five-metre-high cast-iron and brick vaulted ceiling
"The project has two different spatial characters," said Ferreira.
"The gallery has been designed to provide a neutral space that is flexible and allows 'decoration', while the front of house and external entrance use an unexpected material that complements and amplifies the material character of the existing spaces."
It was designed to be an open space
Overall, the studio hopes that renovation will encourage visitors to think about the historic structure and how it interacts with the new interventions.
"We hope the project draws attention to the quality of the existing building counterpointed with an unexpected modern approach in the design of the new spaces," added Groarke.
"We hope the unexpected use of the tinted fibreglass in the front of house and external entrance, provokes a sense of intrigue about the material that brings people to go up to it and touch it."
Founded in 2006 by Groarke and Kevin Carmody, Carmody Groarke is a London-based architecture studio. It has previously created a circular corrugated aluminium ticket pavilion in Hamburg and a boat museum on the shore of Windermere.

Patricia Inez Hines died February 14, 2019, at the age of 71, at her home in Gilbert, AZ. She passed away in her sleep after a month long illness. The cause of death was complications related to cancer of the liver bile duct.
Patricia Inez Hines (nee Strunk) was born October 15, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Inez Rogers Strunk and Sheldon C. Strunk.

Who’s won Week 1 of the NFL preseason so far?
Tumblr media
Tom Brady’s realtor, Daniel by-god Jones, and the legend of Adam Gase all got major boosts.
The NFL returned last week. Kind of.
The Hall of Fame Game was technically football, just like the cardboard rectangle of Ragu and shredded mozzarella-ish cheese you got in elementary school was technically pizza.
This week, the league countered the preseason’s ongoing lack of quality with a major uptick in quantity. Thursday night unveiled an 11-game slate that could rival what you’ll see on Sundays this fall, assuming you squint really hard or drink until Garrett Gilbert looked like a stretched-out Baker Mayfield. Some games came down to the wire. Ones involving the Lions and Jaguars did not.
We’ll have more winners once Week 1 concludes. Assuming there are winners. But so far, who has won the first true week of the preseason slate?
It certainly was not this first name:
Not considered: David Fales, who lost exactly as many yards as he gained
Fales entered a Patriots-Lions game that was somehow out of reach in the first quarter and walked a sturdy tightrope of awfulness for Detroit. He completed only five of his 14 passes, gaining 62 yards in the process. Impressively, he was also sacked six times — 30 percent of his dropbacks! — for a loss of ... 62 yards.
He wasn’t entirely neutral, however; Fales did manage to throw an interception to defensive end John Simon. It was just as bad as it sounds:
Simon says: #Patriots ball .@johnesimon51 | #NEvsDET pic.twitter.com/wp0ye8r8yK
— New England Patriots (@Patriots) August 9, 2019
Fales was responsible for Detroit’s only three points of the night. His interception led to a Patriots touchdown, however, leaving his impact at a negative-four points.
Now, on to the actual winners of the NFL preseason’s premiere week:
8. Whichever Sotheby’s realtor handles Boston’s high-profile clients
Tom Brady put his Boston-area five-bedroom, seven bathroom estate — which features a 2,400-square-foot guest house and a driveway that parks 20 cars — up for sale this week. Any money he’s left on the table in negotiations with the Patriots will be made up from the bids of too-rich Massholes.
It’ll cost you $39.5 million to cook in a kitchen once stocked with avocado ice cream, or do yoga in the same room where Alex Guerrero once regularly prescribed stretching and hugs to prolong a Hall of Fame career. This is a tremendous Brady-bump — a similar five-bedroom, 8,800-square foot house in the same neighborhood sold for only $5.6 million back in May.
Assuming a six percent commission split between two realtors, the two primary sellers of this estate would clear more than $1 million for making the king of the finance bros’ dream come true. And if multiple Bravo reality shows have taught us anything, it’s that elite realtors are wonderful people who truly deserve this money.
Not considered for this list: Other Chestnut Hill-area realtors
Pitching the opportunity to live in the same neighborhood as Brady and Gisele is easily worth a 10 percent bump in asking price. Now that the neighbors who respectfully declined to attend every neighborhood pot luck are leaving, sellers may have to settle for a mere $1.8 million for their 3,000-square-foot home.
7. Antonio Callaway, who absolutely made this catch
I don’t care what the refs (incorrectly) ruled. This was awesome.
Didn't count but INSANE effort by Callaway pic.twitter.com/pRgqnInqHW
— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) August 9, 2019
6. Alpine doctors
One of medicine’s more forgotten specialties got a boost this week when Antonio Brown posted a picture of his gnarly feet and invited the world to ask: arrrggggh why?
What could have caused Brown’s feet to develop a rind like a poorly stored wedge of Montgomery cheddar? ESPN analyst Chris Simms originally landed on fungal infection before correcting the culprit to frostbite from a cryotherapy session gone wrong. The Raiders have neither confirmed nor denied this — while the feet were a sticking point on Hard Knocks, though there was no real insight into the cause — but yeah, given the grossness of those feet I’m inclined to believe the most outlandish possible cause for these symptoms.
The question now is when Oakland can expect its superstar acquisition to return to the field.
What makes frostbite diagnosis tricky is that no two cases are identical. However, the photo tends to support the idea that Brown has Stage 2 frostbite, which is characterized with either blistering, or hardened skin — which cracks and peels off. The real risk here is that Brown has done damage to the blood vessels in his feet, which, according to the Summit Medical Group, can take up to six weeks to be revealed.
Hopefully the damage is minor and Brown will be back on the field soon.
Until then, Brown will be working closely with Dr. Bubba. He is a St. Bernard’s with cask of brandy around his neck and, sadly, fictional.
5. The kid whose bike was destroyed by J.J. Watt
Watt returned to his home state when his Texans bunkered down in Green Bay in advance of their preseason opener against the Packers. This afforded him the chance to take part in one of the league’s finest August traditions: riding the bikes of local children who’ve come to watch training camp sessions. Players pick out a waiting child, hand over their helmets, then make the trip down the DreamDrive from the locker room to the field before practice begins.
Watt, the human embodiment of a Great Dane loose at a dog park, promptly crushed his loaner bike.
Tumblr media
(video courtesy of @ClintStoerner)
“It was pretty awesome until I broke the bike,” Watt told reporters afterward. “The bike that I was using was not equipped for a 290-pound man. The seat broke off. We have purchased a new bike for the boy, so I apologize for that.”
Watt makes nearly $17 million annually, so the aggrieved child likely came out of this deal with a solid upgrade. Plus he gets to tell his friends about the time a Hall of Famer came to town and ruined his bike for the rest of his life. A nice little Tuesday for him.
4. The ongoing legend of Adam Gase’s, uh, peculiarness
We knew about the eyes — that Gase’s face existed in an atmosphere solely made of whispers informing him his exact time of death. This week we got some insight as to why. The Athletic’s Dan Pompei took a deep dive to explore the foundation of Gase, only to find it’s built from caffeine, coaching cliches, and the self-care of an unattended minor.
“You would get these texts from him until 4 in the morning on a regular basis,” says Tannenbaum, now an ESPN analyst. “I don’t think he sleeps a lot.”
Fueled by five or six 20-ounce cups a day from the Kuerig coffee maker that is an arm’s length from his desk, and maybe a Red Bull here or there, Gase has energy like a power plant. And it doesn’t wane in the wee hours.
There’s also the fact Kevin McCallister had a more responsible diet while left unsupervised in the hit movies Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Well, and pizza. With pepperoni. When Gase was with the Dolphins, his office often was filled with the aroma of a pie from Pizza Loft in Davie. When the owner of the restaurant sold the business, he put a clause in the contract that required the new owner to deliver pizza to Gase every night for one year. So Gase ate pizza every night.
Gase is not likely to prepare a meal on his own. When Jennifer recently left him home alone to dog sit for a day, he texted and asked her to order him lunch from Uber Eats.
This revelation of late-night annoyances and childlike disdain for utensils was quickly swept aside by the fact Gase and his wife scheduled their second child’s Caesarian section around his football schedule. His son Wyatt was born at 10 a.m. in the middle of the 2013 NFL season. Gase was back at the Broncos’ facilities — where he was an assistant coach — to greet Peyton Manning for their weekly sit-down by 2 p.m.
This is all, of course, bonkers. But this? For a preseason game?
Did Adam Gase just take smelling salts before a preseason game? pic.twitter.com/gVINzrkcjW
— Andrew Perloff (@andrewperloff) August 8, 2019
These are not the actions of a successful NFL head coach. They are the actions of a man in a wedding dress attempting to blow a car to smithereens.
3. Former Phoenix College star Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, who will somehow be played by Mark Wahlberg in the film version of his life
Sheehy-Guiseppi went from sleeping on the grass in Miami to a tryout with the Browns this summer. The former junior college All-American had the slimmest of NFL prospects, but found a landing spot in Cleveland after effectively hustling his way into a workout this summer. His 4.38-second 40 speed earned him the chance to put on a Browns uniform Thursday night, and he once again burst through a door that had only been cracked a sliver.
WHAT A MOMENT Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi returns a punt 86 yards for a TD — and the whole bench clears to celebrate pic.twitter.com/anLZ3EEgAT
— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) August 9, 2019
Everyone on the Cleveland bench went completely apeshit for this return. It turns out they had a pretty good reason.
2. The Patriots’ passing offense without Tom Brady or Rob Gronkowski, somehow
New England got its long-awaited revenge on Matt Patricia Thursday, breaking a months-long losing streak against the Lions by absolutely thrashing Detroit’s second team to start the preseason. That in itself isn’t amazing, but the way the Patriots did it is. Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham combined for 326 passing yards and three touchdowns. Two of those went to undrafted free agent Jakobi Meyers, who sure as hell looks like the latest college-quarterback-turned-receiver to turn Bill Belichicks frown ... into a slightly more neutral frown.
.@jkbmyrs5 for six.#NEvsDET | #GoPats pic.twitter.com/IUm9fkIY7s
— New England Patriots (@Patriots) August 9, 2019
New England needs a big target who can unstick himself from opposing defenders now that Gronk’s gone into the party bus business full time. Meyers looks like he could fit that bill.
1. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, who may have been right all along
We all had a nice laugh when the Giants selected zero-time All-ACC selection Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. We reveled in Gettleman’s long, strange list of justifications for drafting a passer who may have been available at the team’s second first-round pick, or maybe even on Day 2. We marveled when the Giants inadvertently recreated the pointing Spidermen meme in offseason camp.
But it turns out Jones may have been the right pick after all (I am certain I won’t regret writing this in September, of course).
Drive 1: Every single Daniel Jones pass -5/5, 67 yds and a TD Say goodbye, Eli pic.twitter.com/MURmdOceVD
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) August 8, 2019
It’s Week 1 of the preseason and it was against a Jets team without the best players in its budding secondary, so maybe Eli Manning shouldn’t retreat into retirement just yet. Still, Jones’ solid debut gives at least some hope there’s balm in Gilead for a suffering Giants team that still may not have found the bedrock of its bottoming out.
Jones finished his night as SB Nation’s top-rated rookie passer, though he wasn’t the only young New York quarterback to turn heads Thursday night. Both Sam Darnold and Jones finished their 2019 debuts with perfect passer ratings. That’s literally the best they could have hoped for.
Maybe MetLife Stadium won’t be a swirling vortex of depression this season after all.

Victorian AU
Ok, just some notes for making up my mind, and finally write at least couple of pages of fic with code work name “Ashfield”.
Late Victorian or early Edwardian era AU, dates somewhere between 1896 and 1906. So electricity and London underground are realities, but no First World war around.
Erin Gilbert:  Was famous «ghost girl» in her childhood, as she’s got ability to summon spirits and talk to dead people, but all members of her family thought that she’s just an incredible liar, whose talent can be used for making money. For getting rid of this fame and starting a normal life with a man she loved she broke with her family and also faked horrible mistakes in her séances, claiming that her gift has gone. But the one she put trust in turned to be a swindler, leaving Erin broke and pregnant on her own. To clear her name she made everyone around (including her nowadays fiancé Phil Hudson) to believe, that she’s a widow and sent her illegitimate ten-year old child to distant relatives. Teacher at finishing school.
Jillian Holtzmann: Child of quite rich North American manufacturer, has three elder sisters, for whom her father arranged a good match. For the same reason she was sent with her twin brother to London, but he caught flu on the way there and died. Not wanting to come back home to New York, Jillian hide brother’s death from father, and started claiming herself both for James and for real her. London’s upper crust think that Jillian is slowly dying of T.B., locked it her bedroom, and the only servant in the house, Kevin, isn’t smart enough for understanding why James and Jillian have never been seen in one place in the same time. Fake James is quite eccentric young man, helping father to get entry to British market. He really likes to say, that twins have soul split in two parts by the devil so he knows everything his sister knows and vise versa. Jillian uses her ability to get in both man and women parts of the houses and to find out thighs not for opposite gender ears. So her «brother» turns out a bit of a lady killer as his «sister» was told that should be said to melt a heart.
Abby Yattes: Typical spinster, never really wanted to be married, though was engaged long time ago. Secret’s keeper. Old friend of Erin, she’s the only one, who knows truth about her widowhood. She also have spiritualistic abilities but they are much weaker. In early years assisted in séances, then, after break up with Gilbert, started to practice alone, but didn’t gain even a half of acceptance, cause there are tons of table-lifting charlatans, that make shows instead of doing things right. Suffragist, couple of time was arrested for taking part in different protests, as well as attempt to enter Parliament.
Patty Tolan: worked as maid or/and housekeeper in different families, but usually get kicked out for not keeping her mouth shout, as it’s expected to be from woman of her skin colour. Self-taught polyglot and historian. Her huge family is devout catholic, but she herself is more liberal, as she has seen ghosts couple of times before in old estates and houses.
 And some scene sketches:
«There four different ways to live in the world where women are trash: let them break you, lie to them, fight back or adapt. No matter what you choose- the end would be the same. Men win. Always»
«My dearest Erin, if I did the same thing to you, you would call that harassment and slapped me.»
«-If it was possible, I’d drop on my knees and propose to you the very first day we’ve met, but… - I don’t care about marriage. - I got to tell you something - Jillian, right?... –sighed she,- You’re already married. - No…Things are much worse. - Oh! - It’s not what you thought about, Erin. Just let me finish, don’t run away. I’m pretty sure, that you already put one and one together.»

Tesla CEO Elon Musk makes see to Tulsa
Any sticking around doubts Tulsans might have about whether Tesla is seriously thinking about constructing its next factory here disappeared late Friday afternoon when company CEO Elon Musk arrived in town in his private airplane.
Joined by Craig Hulse, Tesla’s director of policy and federal government affairs, Musk went straight to the suggested site of the plant, where he met with Gov. Kevin Stitt and Secretary of Commerce Sean Kouplen and the property owner. Jeff Stava, Vibrant and Inclusive Tulsa Team lead for the George Kaiser Household Structure, likewise went to the conference.
Officials have actually not revealed where the site is.
— Governor Kevin Stitt (@GovStitt) July 4, 2020
Stitt and Kouplen had discussed the project in individual with Musk in May when they took a trip to Florida for the launch of Musk’s manned SpaceX rocket.
” The site is extremely crucial to Elon.
The Associated Press and other media outlets have reported that Austin, Texas, and Tulsa are finalists for the electronic automobile maker’s Cybertruck factory.
Kouplen said he feels very good about Tulsa’s chance to land the electric lorry giant, but work remains.
” We have the difficulty of Tulsa being lesser known than Austin and getting his team comfy with us as their possible website,” he said.

25 Black Style Icons Who Have Made Waves In The Fashion Industry
To celebrate Black History Month, we’re taking a moment to honor some of the most stylish black men and women in modern history.
From Josephine Baker to Sammy Davis Jr., from Naomi Campbell to Rihanna, these individuals made waves in the fashion industry ― whether working in it or participating in all it has to offer ― and continue to inspire generations of people to do the same.
Despite fashion’s less-than-stellar record when it comes to diversity and inclusion, the tides seem to be changing for the better, thanks in large part to many of the individuals on this list.
Josephine Baker

Rihanna wouldn’t be rocking glittery naked dresses if it weren’t for Josephine Baker before her. The American-born entertainer, who found success in France, pushed the envelope with both her provocative costumes (inspiration for Rihanna’s stunning CFDA dress) and her bold activism. She faced racial discrimination throughout her career, but she fought for civil rights and refused to perform for segregated audiences in the U.S. in the ’50s and ’60s. (Photo: Baker in Hamburg, Germany, 1925.)
Eartha Kitt
Silver Screen Collection via Getty Images
Eartha Kitt was a Broadway star, a TV icon and a real fashionista. The actress had a bold style, and as Mic pointed out, she sure loved her animal print ―which was fitting, as she scored the role of Catwoman on the 1960s “Batman” TV series. Kitt also wasn’t afraid to be a little sexy when it came to her style choices and defied norms of the time. (Photo: Kitt in a 1955 studio portrait.)
Sammy Davis Jr.
NBC via Getty Images
Sammy Davis Jr. of Rat Pack fame was one stylish man. In 1967, his fashion icon status was cemented when he became the first man of color to appear on the cover of GQ. (Photo: Davis on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” on Sept. 17, 1965.)
Diana Ross
Terry O’Neill via Getty Images
Diana Ross has been blessing us with iconic looks for decades. If we had to describe her style in one phrase, we’d call it “perfectly over the top.” Even in her 70s, the Motown queen and former lead singer of the Supremes is killing it with her wardrobe choices. (Photo: Ross in 1972.)
Beverly Johnson
Bob Stone via Getty Images
Beverly Johnson’s modeling career included a number of firsts: She was the first African-American model to be featured on the cover of American Vogue in 1974 and the first black woman to appear on the cover of French Elle. A trailblazer, she paved the way for fellow black models like Naomi Campbell, Iman, Tyra Banks and Chanel Iman, to name a few. (Photo: Johnson in Vogue, 1974.)
Pat Cleveland
Ron Galella via Getty Images
Pat Cleveland was also part of the first group of black models to find major success in the fashion industry back in the ’60s and ’70s. This year, the 68-year-old strutted her stuff during the Hellessy show in New York. She killed it, naturally. (Photo: Cleveland at the B. Altman Fashion Show on Aug. 24, 1977, in New York City.)
Bethann Hardison
Jamie McCarthy via Getty Images
Bethann Hardison is more than a fashion icon. She’s a culture icon. Like Johnson and Cleveland, Hardison was a trailblazing model in her heyday, walking in the famous Battle of Versailles fashion show in 1973. She also started her own modeling agency and continues to fight for more and better representation in the fashion industry through her Diversity Coalition. (Photo: Hardison at the 2016 CFDA awards in New York City.)
Angela Davis

Angela Davis isn’t a regular style icon; she’s a game-changing style icon. The activist was one of the faces of the “Black Is Beautiful” movement, which aimed to lift up black women by showing the world the natural beauty of their hair and skin, their faces and bodies. Davis’ afro became iconic in its own right, symbolizing her support of the civil rights movement and other political views. (Photo: Davis in South Africa, 1974.)
Pam Grier
Michael Ochs Archives via Getty Images
Pam Grier has been dubbed the “queen” of blaxploitation films, thanks to her standout roles in movies like “Coffy” and “Foxy Brown.” She’s also known as the first African-American woman to star in an action movie. But amidst her boundary-breaking work in Hollywood, Grier became something of a fashion icon, thanks to her classic ’70s style. (Photo: Grier in 1972.)
Donna Summer
Fin Costello via Getty Images
Donna Summer was the ultimate 1970s disco queen and we still feel love for her flashy, ultra-glam style. (Photo: Summer in 1976.)
Tina Turner
Peter Still via Getty Images
Tina Turner can rock a mini skirt (and some fringe) like no other. Her go-to performance costumes have no doubt inspired singers like Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez and any other star who takes the stage wearing little more than a bodysuit and fishnet stockings. (Photo: Turner onstage in 1985.)
Grace Jones
Dave Hogan via Getty Images
Jamaican-born singer Grace Jones has a style unlike anyone else. She’s fierce, bold and unapologetically herself, no matter what she’s wearing ― all qualities of a true style icon. Oh, and she was one of the most badass Bond girls in the franchise. (Photo: Jones in 1989.)
Prince
Richard E. Aaron via Getty Images
It’s nearly impossible to look at a purple suit without thinking of Prince and his iconic “Purple Rain” getup. That is the power of his style. (Photo: Prince onstage during his Purple Rain tour, circa 1984-1985.)
Janet Jackson
KMazur via Getty Images
Janet Jackson was and still is a force in the pop genre with a killer style to match. Over the years, she’s worn plenty of iconic outfits, including the entire wardrobe from her Rhythm Nation tour (one outfit is seen here) and her “pervert” crop top, which inspired an outfit worn by singer-dancer Teyana Taylor. (Photo: Jackson performing in New York City, 1990.)
Michael Jackson
Steve Granitz via Getty Images
Michael Jackson gave us incredible pop music, iconic dance moves and some of the most unforgettable fashion moments in music history. There was the biker gang ensemble from “Bad,” the red leather jacket from “Thriller” and of course, the military-inspired outfit he wore for his 1993 Super Bowl halftime show (seen here, and later referenced by Beyoncé).
Iman
Jamie McCarthy via Getty Images
Supermodel and activist Iman is no doubt one of the most stunning faces in fashion. But beyond that, she’s used her platform over the years to speak about important issues like racism and inclusivity in the fashion industry and beyond, and to spark positive change in the industry. That’s something that will always be in style. (Photo: Iman at an event in New York City, 2016.)
Naomi Campbell
Daniel SIMON via Getty Images
Naomi Campbell continues to be one of the most famous models working in the industry. The catwalk queen was one of the original supermodels, alongside Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford, and in 1988, she became the first black woman to appear on the cover of Paris Vogue. At 48, she is showing no signs of slowing down in a youth-obsessed industry. In January 2019, Campbell closed the stunning Valentino couture show. (Photo: Campbell on the Versace runway, 1996.)
Tyra Banks
Daniel SIMON via Getty Images
Tyra Banks is another trailblazer of color who took her job as a model and turned it into a mega career. She’s hosted her own talk show, appeared in movies and, of course, launched the “America’s Next Top Model” franchise and taught us all to smize. (Photo: Banks on the Yves Saint Laurent runway, 1993.)
Michelle Obama
SAUL LOEB via Getty Images
Michelle Obama is one of the most stylish first ladies in American history. From the moment we saw her in her now-iconic white Jason Wu inauguration gown (seen here) in 2009, we knew she’d become a true fashion icon. Name another first lady, former or current, who could wear sparkly thigh-high Balenciaga boots straight from the runway. We’ll wait.
Pharrell Williams
Lester Cohen via Getty Images
If there’s one man who has a truly unique style, it’s Pharrell. The music producer and Karl Lagerfeld muse is that rare person who can rock an oversized Vivienne Westwood mountie-inspired hat and still look cool. (Photo: Williams at the 2014 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.)
Rihanna
Gilbert Carrasquillo via Getty Images
There’s no denying Rihanna’s fashion icon status. The singer and Fenty beauty mogul even won the title at the CFDA Awards in 2014 while wearing that sparkling naked dress (the one seen here). Throughout her career, which still has so far to go, Riri has shown us all that she doesn’t care what others think, and she’ll wear what she wants, thank you very much.
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter
Jeff Kravitz via Getty Images
Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter make up this list’s stylish mother-daughter duo. Whether they’re coordinating or not, these two always go big with their fashion statements. (Photo: Beyoncé and Blue Ivy at the 2016 MTV VMAs in New York City.)
Lupita Nyong’o
Kevin Mazur via Getty Images
Lupita Nyong’o has emerged as one of the most refreshing style icons of the past decade. The actress first made waves in Hollywood when she won an Oscar for “12 Years A Slave” ― her first major role ― and then had heads turning when she arrived at the awards ceremony in her now-iconic Nairobi blue Prada gown. (Photo: Nyong’o at the 2014 Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.)
Zendaya
Jamie McCarthy via Getty Images
Zendaya is one of the youngest individuals on this list, but the 22-year-old has already shown herself to be one of fashion’s most interesting muses. The actress isn’t afraid to make bold choices and we can’t wait to see what else she has in store in the coming years. (Photo: Zendaya at the 2017 Met Gala in New York City.)
