Jasmine for the ask game
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
I think for this, it would be this tollywood movie called 'Evaru'. It was an amazing thriller movie, but once you know the twist it isn't really worth watching again

Hyderabad’s Pavan Atukuri helms series on alternate universe in Telugu
When done-to-death plots are commonplace on the big screen or OTTs, Hyderabad-based Pavan Atukuri has dared to think out of the box and come up with ‘Nuvvu Evaru?’, a web series based on the concept of an alternate universe. It is probably the first time this cryptic concept has been woven into a fictional story and made into Telugu series. However, getting this series released was not a cakewalk…

It's a bit interesting, jumping from the Hindi remake of the first film to the Telugu second film, only because when they flashback to the first movie, they're not flashing back to Rajkummar Rao and are instead flashing back to actors I don't recognize at all. But then, I guess it's not a huge deal because aside from what a few flashbacks (the biggest one, regarding the shot fired at the end of the first movie, was also in the Hindi version, it's just that Rajkummar Rao was in the frame instead of the other guy) and probably a few easter eggs that I missed, there isn't necessarily much continuation between the two films (other than the background, still sorta unexplained, subplot about why someone shot at him at the end of the first movie). It could, for the most part, be a standalone movie without much issue.
This marks the 4th Adivi Sesh movie I've seen (Kshanam, Goodachari, Evaru being the others), and they've all been absolutely excellent. Kshanam got turned into the not-as-great Baaghi 2, and Evaru was the Telugu remake of The Invisible Guest/Badla, albeit better than Badla because it took the premise and made it's own story and didn't just scene-for-scene copy, and I wouldn't be surprised if this eventually gets turned into a Bollywood movie as well (as was sorta suggested at the end of the first movie). But, honestly, all 4 of these movies I've seen have been thrillers/whodunnits, and they've all been so freaking excellent (a huge reason that I watched this movie and didn't just wait for the Hindi remake, as happened with the first HIT). If he's going to be in a thriller, I'll definitely give it a shot.
Beyond that bit ... well, this is definitely creepy. It fits the recent trend (Hit, Cuttputlli, Chup) of being slightly gruesome/gory (especially when they introduce us to the crime). The entitlement of some people, though - people fucking suck. Also not cool is his boss - there's just something off with him, and while he might try to play it off as "I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers" (not his exact words), it doesn't justify his inaction. In fact, the only real action he takes the entire movie almost gets them all killed (of course, this is compounded by our hero taking more action than he should've). Yeah, he's not the bad guy here, but he's definitely not a good guy either.
Meenakshi Chaudhary is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately for her, this movie is pretty much driven by the case and as she's not the female cop in the movie (or a suspect/roommate of a victim), she doesn't necessarily get the most scope (until the end, I guess - when she's bound/gagged). She does make a good argument of not having your phone on silent, I guess (mostly by always having her phone on silent), but like Sanya Malhotra in HIT: The First Case (Bollywood), you wonder if she could've gotten a meatier role (though, in that first movie, Sanya was a cop and still didn't get to do much).
The gruesome serial killer/angry man-child bit is getting a bit much, though. Like, I know those people are very prevalent in society, but these movies where they pretty much have free reign until the end isn't really sending the message you think it's sending. Speaking of sending messages, the biggest issue with this plot is you don't really figure out why he suddenly went from killer to exhibitionist - like obviously he took offense to Adivi's comment (albeit, not even a comment directed at him), but suddenly now he's being looked for. I guess he had the confidence he'd win the final fight but, like, he'd been undetected before. Also, this whole 'encounter' culture is really crazy, especially when they don't give two shits about innocent/guilty. It's horrific. (Also horrific - that lady at the beginning who lied.)
And again, the biggest issue - we still don't fully know what happened at the end of the first movie. And I really, really am curious about what happened there.
The guest appearance at the end / the set-up for the 3rd movie was even more exciting. Like, if there's any non-Adivi Sesh Telugu movie I'd be super interested in watching, it would be his. So excited! It'll obviously be more serious, it seems, than Gangleader or Makkhi, but I'm sure it'll be excellent nonetheless.

[Miniature drawing of @reginaacassandraa from #Evaru directed by @vvramg and starring @adivisesh] Evaru (2019) Directed by Venkat Ramji I missed watching this movie in theatres as the last couple of months have been extremely busy for me, with Recruitment activities. Fortunately, at the end of its theatrical run now, the film is on Amazon Prime. It's an official remake of the Spanish movie "Contratiempo" a.k.a. "The Invisible Guest", the second Indian remake, after "Badla". I actually didn't know this was a remake, till @kashyapchandra told me about it. So, I watched "The Invisible Guest" on Netflix recently and liked that. I haven't seen "Badla" yet and directly saw this take on the story. The film opens with wealthy socialite Sameera (Regina Cassandra) being arrested for the murder of a police officer who raped her. Subsequently, while under house arrest and impending trial, Vikram Vasudev (Adivi Sesh), a cop, advises her on defense. If you have seen the original film you would kind of know where things go from here, but the filmmakers here have made enough changes to differentiate this movie from the Spanish one (I don't know how similar this is to "Badla" though). The framework is the same, but they play about with the details differently. I thought "Evaru" was well done, quite restrained in its approach and nicely paced. It was well acted too. I liked the movie overall. I drew Regina Cassandra from the movie, from the flashback scene of the assault that starts off the story. The drawing is one inch square in size, done with 0.5 mm 2B mechanical pencil on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned. Tagging @neme.art #aninchaugust #aninchaugust2019 (despite August being over), and @primevideoin. #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #pencil #pencilart #miniatureart #evaru #contratiempo #theinvisibleguest #473 / 20-Sep-19 (at Secunderabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2n0biRgC_s/?igshid=nho0c4knqp06
