A setting where Ayumu is in love with Yu, and Setsuna cheers her on.
Previous | Series Masterpost | Bonus (TBA)
**
The fourth main update to my series has finally arrived! Your food is here, SetsuAyu nation! Sorry for the huge delay guys, I know it’s been 2 months since the last update 😅 . I’m done with university for the year though! So I have more time to draw 🥰
First things first - a disclaimer from me:
This story is written with the context of the SIFAS story - which is fairly different to the anime. Ayumu’s motivations are a lot more self-driven in the anime, but in the game she does kind of just agree because Yu needed members to keep the club together (she does come to love the whole idol thing though).
Tumblr media
I do make anime references! But they’re just that - references. So just keep in mind I use the SIFAS story as my general guide.
In this comic I wanted to kind of explore Ayumu’s motivations as an idol and compare it with Setsuna’s. Like I said, it does kind of clash with the anime, but Ayumu’s motivations were one of the main things that spurred this entire series in the first place. Putting aside her own hobbies and joining the idol club for her...Ayumu really does love Yu a lot doesn’t she?
I also wanted to show the current state of SetsuAyu’s relationship in this series - how they would support and reassure eachother. Alongside this, the shifting feelings of both SetsuAyu regarding the things that they want. Hopefully I was able to communicate those feelings. 🥰
That being said, this comic was a full-on marathon! 14 pages - the longest of any comic I’ve done yet. The last comic was half the size! It really tested my discipline and stamina. Ever since starting work on the comic, I didn’t skip out a single day 💪💪
Past me is such a fool though. Look it her talking about the third update - “9 pages was too much. I’m happy to do a 7 page comic” - little did she know that she’d limit break again and make a 14-pager😂😂
Tumblr media
In case you’re curious, the final timeline for the production of this comic was:
Draft: 7 days
Lines: 9 days
Colours: 9 days
Finalising: 3 days
For a total of 28 days! Phew, I’m exhausted. On weekdays I typically spent 2-5 hours and on weekends easily 4-9 💪 ! As I said, it really pushed both my stamina and my discipline. It feels so great to finally be done!
I’m really happy with how this update turned out by the way. It’s like with every update I do, I always feel like I’m improving with my art skill. Each update is like a step up from the last! Every comic I do feels like a learning experience and I hope that I’ll continue to improve 💖
I’m really proud of a few pages, so I’ll post them up in another post without the bubbles to show them off 💖 💖.
Again, past me is a fool.
Tumblr media
I was like “#3 was way too complex! I’m not doing that level of colouring again!” before one-upping it with this update 😂 😂 . It turns out that I really like toying with lighting. It’s so fun... #5 will take place at sunset so I’m excited for that too 💖 . I’ll have to do a lot of research for it!
I hope you guys enjoyed this update - I really did put a lot of effort into it. I wish I could stream more or show more WIPs but I really wanted to keep all the best things about this comic secret so it could surprise everyone! Admittedly whenever I stream/show WIPs I always pick the more boring looking panels just because I want to hide the cool ones. Sorry if that means that my streams end up less interesting 😂.
On another note, I’m thinking of recruiting a typesetting editor. I’d still like to do basically everything myself, but I recognise that there’s a lot of things that I have no clue about. I really don’t know much about typesetting, so having a critical eye would really ease the weight on my shoulders. I feel like I spend way too much time agonising over how to wrap text... Well, we’ll see how I go moving forward.
Anyways, thank you for reading! And if you’ve been keeping up with this series then I doubly thank you!! I put a lot of heart into this, so the idea of people actually being invested always makes me smile so much (and cry a little).
Expect a bonus coming up within a week! I’ve been excited to draw this one for a while! Though maybe it might be longer than that. I’ve been considering writing up a post about my comic-making process in case people were interested. If I do decide to go through with that, expect the bonus to be a little delayed 💖 .
As for what’s actually in the bonus... well let’s just say this image is in my notes about it:

Time Travelers, Aliens, and AI
2019 JUL 13
At this point in history, we can all agree... things are a little fucked up.
Reality itself feels a little fractured... like we passed through the looking glass sometime around 2012... or 2016... depending on who you ask... but definitely, the twenty-teens saw a big rift in reality itself.
One we’ve all felt... but have not been able to describe exactly... just a vague certitude that things have gotten inexplicably weird, even on the day to day level for everybody around the planet.
Nor have we been able to point to one specific cause of this thing... I mean, we know climate change is a big problem, and that for some reason there’s a huge upswing in authoritarianistic freaks, even though the economy is doing pretty good for most of us and we don’t seem to be on the verge of a global war.
The internet itself... social media, more specifically, tend to get blamed for the overwhelming weirdness and dystopic nature of this trans-twenty-teenian era... with flat-earthers and anti-vaxers on one end, and quantum physicists on the other... all getting about equal attention in a global dialogue that includes everything in between those extremes... to a depth we never imagined any individual thing could ever go.
But I am here to tell you... the real reason the twenty-teens have been so fucked up, is because over this decade, our internet reached a milestone in it’s level of sophistication... such that... aliens can now get a better handle on what we’re doing... AND... human time travelers like it as a rest stop, coming and going from the more distant past, to the more distant future.
Just to be clear here... Aliens do not have time travel.  They don’t need it.  They see no point in it.  On the other hand, Time travelers... all of whom are humans from the near to distant future on Earth... don’t necessarily believe in aliens.
Both factions, however, do exist in our world, and, more importantly for our analysis... both have their own versions of AI (artificial intelligence) to help them do their work.  And the AI from both the aliens, and the time travelers, are accessing our nicely mature internet on a daily basis... doing who knows what, with what known supervision?
In other words... it’s a cluster fuck of trans-dimensional beings, some from Earth, some from space... and their AI... all drawn to the early 21st Century like moths to a flame, because this is the first moment where our tech and science is finally, truly compatible with theirs... either from space, or from the future.
We finally have, leading up to the twenty-twenties, enough computing power... enough wireless infrastructure... surveillance... GPS tracking... etc... for them to log in, get their headings, take their readings, do their studies... what have you.
But for both aliens, and time travelers (who, again, I’ll remind you do not necessarily know of one another’s existence) this easy internet access comes at a cost, and it is the cost of visibility.
Visibility in the real world... because there are so many of them around right now, and also visibility online... mostly unintentional, as both parties like to stay off the radar... but they can’t quite manage it... especially with their AI out there doing God only knows what, under their noses.
And all of this... is to say nothing of the underlying physics of the collective unconscious.
I know... that sounds a bit crazy, even for a person trying to talk about time travelers and aliens in our midst, but... we all agree that the internet is a kind of collective consciousness, brought to us by technology.
However, it may also be true, that all sentient beings... are only able to be sentient at all... thanks to the fact that all sentient brains have evolved to take advantage of some yet to be defined property of the universe which allows for consciousness... much like the modern cloud allows individual phones to store and access data available to all other phones.
If there is a “natural cloud” of, say, dark matter, within which all biological consciousness resides, and which allows all sentient biological brains to... do sentience... then this “collective unconscious” would naturally be affected by the goings on in the collective “conscious” of an internet spanning the globe, and being accessed by not just you and me, but also aliens... time travelers... and their AI.
PHEW!
Okay, so the “collective unconscious” aspect of this is probably the most important, but it’s also the most difficult to pin down, quantify, or study... so we will ignore it for now... as we ignore everything that is unconscious.
That said, in the waking world, time travelers are, on the whole, doing a much better job avoiding notice than the aliens, who can’t resist the temptation to fuck with the world’s air force pilots and astronauts every couple of weeks.
It’s important to recognize that from the alien point of view, we on Earth have been waging a non stop nuclear war since the 1940s.  From their perspective, every single nuclear “test” detonation... be it above ground, underground, under the sea, or in space... anywhere on Earth... has been just another horrible nuclear bomb going off in what looks like a sixty year nuclear war at this point.
And aliens notice this shit!
Nuclear fission leaves a telltale signature, but unlike the signature of fire and smoke, or electric light, fission says, “These assholes can finally do real math and understand how atoms work!”  And that’s a big warning flag, for an intergalactic civilization keeping it’s eye on the barbarians at the outskirts of the galaxy.
So, from the alien perspective, the pressure has been on since Hiroshima, to keep a close eye and, as technology on Earth has progressed, to give a little wink and a nod to the Earthlings in power... just enough to spook them... just enough to get them thinking... watch your step!  Somebody might be out here you don’t wan’t to fuck with, okay?
This has grown more prevalent over time, leading to a few generations of leaders, and their congresses, and their state congresses, and their city congresses... all knowing about this and growing more paranoid about it.
Meanwhile the internet has allowed leaks to filter down to the masses and... well.. this, I would submit, is the underlying cause of the huge spike in xenophobia in the twenty-teens.
On the surface it walks and talks like an unexplained rise in racism, even while we should have gotten past this level of human racism by now... but below the surface... it’s the unspoken fear of the aliens... the ones from outer space... who are watching us... and have been for centuries.  And whom we know nothing about.
Time travelers, meanwhile, are just human working joes... mostly military, because time distortion units are top secret, naturally... and they are only coming back in time for two purposes... to research and/or retrieve.
Every research time traveler is encouraged to retrieve what they can, even if it’s just a ball point pen from the past.
Every retrieval time traveler is encouraged to take notes... photos, video... of what they can... even if it’s just cars parked on a city street, or a chat with a person from the time in a bar.
Both types of time agents help their home governments in the future build better intel about past timelines, how to navigate them, how to understand metahistory, to prevent future mistakes... and how to access past tech in order to debug legacy tech that threatens their present day... a’la the Y2K bug, or other legacy computer bugs that threaten them down the line.
Time travelers keep a low profile, not because they fear changing the future. They don’t.  This is a many-world multiverse of ever bifurcating timelines, and what they do in the past doesn’t affect their home worldline, but they keep to the shadows nonetheless in order to avoid detection by the authorities of the times they are visiting.
Still, in order to get to their destinations in the past of the multiverse, and then navigate back to their home line (or one indistinguishable from it) time travelers rely on their own onboard AI to compare prerecorded aspects of their own past to present aspects of the past they’ve arrived in.
The more prerecorded data from the past that the AI has, to match to a stream of data at the destination... the better the AI is able to discern the time traveler’s deviation from the home line.
This is why time travelers, who can only move backward and forward in hops of ten or so years at a time, like to stop off in the twenty teens to get their bearings... because the internet of the twenty teens is so well documented and recorded.
You stop in 2016.  You log on to some obscure Youtube channel whose URL corresponds to some universal constant (which will be the same for all time travelers no matter where in the multiverse they come from) and your AI compares that feet to what it has in archive for this date.
The AI calculates a deviation between the two feeds, which tells you how far off you are from the actual direct past you can never get straight back to.  If that deviation is large... you have to double back and try again.  If it’s within a small margin, then your mission is a go.
But they also establish weird channels on Youtube for this purpose... and on all other social media feeds... and their AI... well... the point is... even when they try to stay under the radar, their presence and their traffic is felt by us.
And lastly, there is just cross talk happening between the different technologies that time travelers see, and the adaptations and reverse engineerings of alien tech, that leads to real time tech getting weirder in our own world line.
Smart phones, I would posit, are an example of this cross talk.
Smart phones were not the result of any logical progression from 1990s cell phones and flip phones, and failed tablet experiments. They were not foreseen, and remain pretty enigmatic today... twelve years after their birth in 2007.
I would submit that smart phones... with their insane miniaturization of computing power, their insane battery and screen technology, their insane level of advanced sensors, and... the insane level of wireless, and satellite based infrastructure needed to support them... are in fact a hybrid technology that arose from one part time travelers seeing the possibilities in different instances of this era... and one part retro-engineering of alien tech.
And that’s where I’m gonna leave this first entry.
Happy Summer.

Happy Birthday! – Zig X Scarlett (MC) – Part 2
SUMMARY: On Saturday afternoon, Zig and Scarlett (MC) celebrate her birthday with a fun ride in the amusement park.
PAIRING: Zig X Scarlett (MC)
RATING: Everyone
WORDS: 2.554
NOTE: Hey! Here’s the second part from Happy Birthday! series. I got the idea for Zig and Scarlett’s date after watching on Youtube Kaitlyn’s route in TS 2 (they go to an amusement park during chapter 4). There’s also a mention to Scarlett’s childhood friends, Kelsey and Emma. I first wrote about them in a series about a visit from Scarlett to Zig during summer in TF 4, I didn’t like the result of that series and kinda left aside. Maybe I’ll finish that one day, but within the timeline of my fanfics, Scarlett already told Zig about them. I also mentioned the girls in this post about Scarlett for MC Appreciation Week. Phew! English isn’t my native language. I write to practice and learn, so please sorry any mistakes. I hope you like it, and if you do, I’d appreciate if you like/comment/reblog!

Scarlett got up early to finish her homework she left aside the night before. When it was midday, she dressed up and headed to the coffee shop. Zig was waiting for her outside, and smiled broadly when he saw her rushing into his direction. She threw herself into his arms and he hugged her tightly.
_Glad to see you’re excited for today!
_I’m always excited to spend the day with you! Even more today! – he lifted her chin with one hand and kissed her deeply. She pulled back smiling – so, where we go to lunch?
_It’s up to you, Scarlett, where my princess wants to go? – he smiled sweetly.
_Since it’s my birthday, how about a Chinese?
_Great, let’s go! – they headed to his car and then to her favorite Chinese restaurant. Once there, they ordered the food, and when the waiter left the table, Scarlett took Zig’s hands.
_So, can you tell me now where we will go?
_Mmm…no. I want to see your face when we arrive there – he lifted her hands and kissed them.
_Oh… - she pouted – neither a tip? Why we couldn’t eat in there?
_You’ll understand when we arrive there – he said patiently, like he was talking to a little kid – my curious girl. Don’t worry, I already said you’ll love it.
_Okay… - she sighed – I trust you. No matter where we’ll go, I always have a good time with you.
_Me too. I’m so glad we’ll do something special for your birthday.
_This already is the best birthday I’ve had. Because I have my friends and you – she smiled and he squeezed her hands.
_You know, when Zack told us about his idea for your surprise party, everybody agreed instantaneously. He texted us and we met at the coffee shop, and right there we started to plan everything, what each of us would do. I was so glad to see how much they like and care about you. I know you care about us, too, and it’s reciprocal – he grinned, and she blushed slightly, smiling widely.
_Good to know I have people by my side for whatever comes. I’m there for you guys and I’m sure you’ll be there for me too.
_Definitely. We’ll always on your back – his gaze was full of adoration – I feel so lucky and grateful for having you in my life as my girlfriend.
_So do I. You’re the best, Zig, my angel – they leaned over the table to a kiss. Right after they separated, their food arrived, and after they ate the meal, they went back to the car and headed to the mysterious place. Scarlett talked to Zig, but tried to guess where they were going – so, I see it’s a place higher than Northbridge, so we don’t have snow here…oh, my God, what place will this be? – she lifted her head trying to see ahead, and he giggled.
_We’re almost there, just more a few minutes. But something tells me you won’t need to lift your head so much to see it – she widened her eyes and turned her head to glance at him, he was smirking. Her curiosity was killing her from the inside, and she had no idea where he was taking her. But when she suddenly saw a rollercoaster, and then a Ferris wheel, she let out a slight scream.
               _Don’t tell me…
_Yes – he smiled and she bounced on her seat.
_What a wonderful idea! – she threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek.
_Whoa! Wait until I park the car, or I can cause an accident! – she pulled back laughing.
_Sorry, I’m pretty excited. It’s been a long time since I went to an amusement park!
_Seconded. And it sound great. Kaitlyn gave me the tip, she guaranteed me it’s the best she already went.
_I can see. There’re some cool rides here! And some booths with games! Now I can understand why you wanted us to lunch in Northbridge!
_Yeah, I don’t want you throwing up when we’re in the rollercoaster – they laughed, then he pulled over the car in the parking lot, and they went to the entrance. He took two tickets from his wallet and they entered in the park. Scarlett, holding his hand, looked around to the attractions, the tents with games, the food and the people in there, excited.
_Look at that! It’s wonderful – Zig laughed. She was looking like a little girl who had never been to a park before, and it was pretty adorable.
               _Where should we begin?
_To prove to you I’m not scared, let’s go to the rollercoaster – she guided him to the queue and soon they were enjoying the ride in one of the cars – it was really fun!
_Yeah, you’re right – he nudged her – but I wasn’t so scared. I think the Evolution is worse – he pointed to the ride on their left.
_Challenge accepted – she linked her arm on his and they headed to Evolution. They went to other radical rides of the park, laughing and teasing each other, but none of them was scary enough for them – nice to see I have a partner as brave as me! – she hugged him while they had a break for a soda. So many rides got them thirsty.
_I was about to say the same, Scar. I’ve always loved these thrilling rides and I’ve never met anyone who shared this with me – she took his hand and kissed it – I mean, not my friends, or my sisters, especially Sophie, but, you know…like you said, a partner… - Zig stammered a little and she interrupted, grinning.
_Yeah, I understood – Scarlett giggled – me too, Zig. I think I’ve already told you about my best friends Kelsey and Emma, I know them since kindergarten. We loved to go to amusement parks but Emma sometimes was afraid of the rides. Kelsey joined me but she didn’t like to leave Emma aside, so I’d give up on her – Zig looked at her, sweetly.
_Aw, since always looking after her friends – he kissed her temple and she rolled her eyes, smiling.
_Yeah, you can say so – she nudged him – and I’ve never had an adventurous boyfriend either – he smirked at her before leaning down to kiss her deeply – so I think we make a perfect duo.
_I never doubted of it for a second – he turned his head and grinned – well, Kaitlyn said that horror house is amazing, but, well, you know how she is when it comes to horror.
_Oh, believe me, I know – they chuckled – so I think we need to check it out – after some jump scares and laughs, they decided to go to less radical rides, like bumper cars and boats, the motion simulator and the music express. After a while, they decided to stop to eat. Amidst fries, burgers and milk shakes, they were still laughing and talking about the day, sitting side by side.
_So, did you like this surprise?
_If I liked? Zig, I loved it! You were absolutely right! – he laughed again with her excitement.
_You were so funny and lovely today, my princess. Sometimes I thought I’d brought a little child to the park instead of my girlfriend – she laughed loudly.
_Yeah, I think I got carried away and this park woke the baby Scarlett inside me.
_But I’m not complaining – Zig grinned – I liked to see it. I got the sense that baby Scarlett was as cute as 20-year-old Scarlett – she smiled shyly and he kissed the tip of her nose.
_And she still keeps a peculiar taste from her baby days – Scarlett took off the tamp of her strawberry milk shake and dipped a potato inside it – open your mouth – Zig obeyed and she put the potato covered by ice cream inside his mouth. He chewed slowly, tasting that strange combination, but smiled a little.
_Well, it isn’t bad - he kissed her again – when we're done here, we could try those games, and see if I get another gift for you.
_Oh, I’d love to! And I get the feeling you’re great at these games.
_Yeah, I had a lot of training. My sisters always asked me to try to get stuffed animals for them. And, modesty aside, they never came home empty-handed – he winked.
_Great, let’s see if you kept those skills – after they finished their food, they walked the tents with the carnival games, and lots of prizes. Suddenly, something caught Scarlett’s attention – oh, Zig! Look at that! – she pointed to a big stuffed elephant with a red hat in a high shelf – he’s so cute! – Zig looked down to the tent.
_Oh, shooting! It’s my favorite! – they approached the place and he took a shotgun. An old and sympathetic man wearing a hat and a striped shirt smiled at them.
_Welcome, my pals! You just have to aim at that target – he pointed to a black and white target with different points markers, only the number ten was in a red circle in the middle – Four shots for a prize!
_And how much do we need to get that elephant? – Zig pointed to the prize Scarlett wanted.
_Thirty-two points. Good luck! – he smiled again, and Zig turned to Scarlett.
_Hey, how about we do this together?
_Are you sure? I don’t know if I’m as good as you are at this…
_We need thirty-two points, an average of eight in each shot. I can shoot twice, and then you, twice. I can go first to take advantage and you can concentrate more quietly for your attempts. What do you say?
_Mmm…okay, whatever, let’s do it – she grinned nervously. Skillfully, Zig placed the gun on his shoulder and aimed the target for some seconds before shooting. He hit the number eight. Then he concentrated again and hit the nine – so, seventeen points, not bad – she sighed – I need fifteen…
_Let me help you to hold the gun – he placed himself behind her and put the gun on her shoulder, then set her hands the same way he did during his shots – look through this circle, when you feel you’re ready, pull the trigger – he kissed her cheek – I’m pretty sure you can do it, babe – he smiled and she focused on the number eight. She shot but hit the six.
_Oh, crap – Scarlett snorted, frustrated – that was awful, now I need a nine…after this, I don’t think I can do it…
_Don’t give up yet, Scarlett – he cheered her up – the game isn’t over until it’s over, take your time – she turned to him and smiled when she saw him smiling too. She concentrated again for a little longer and shot. The bullet trailed directly to the red circle.
_Oh…my…God! I did it, I can’t believe! – she started to jump and he wrapped his arms around her waist, lifting her up – did you see it, my angel?- she couldn’t stop grinning.
_You just needed a nine, but you went further! – he kissed her cheek seval times – thirty-three points, I knew you could!
_Congrats, my friends! – the man was holding the elephant and she picked it, holding him thight while Zig payed the man. He greeted with a hat tip. Scarlett and Zig walked away from the tent.
_Oh, I love stuffed animals! He needs a name, what could it be? – she turned him to Zig, and he frowned, pensive.
_He remembers me of that movie, where an elephant finds an entire city of little creatures in a dust speck…
                    _Yeah, I know…Horton Hears a Who!
_This! Horton could be his name, what do you think?
_Perfect – she looked at the stuffed animal – nice to meet you, Horton. I’m Scarlett, and you’ll live in my bedroom now – she turned him over to Zig again, he was laughing – and this handsome guy is my boyfriend, Zig.
_It’s a pleasure, Horton. And since you’ll live in her bedroom, I’m pretty sure we’ll met often – they burst into laughing, and Zig wrapped an arm around her before kiss her temple – look, let’s try the Whac-A-Mole – after a few more games, the first stars began to shine in the dark sky. Scarlett looked at the carousel, smiling. It was spinning slowly, all lit up with small colored lamps.
_It’s even more beautiful at the night, don’t you think? – hand in hand they approached the place.
_Absolutely – the carousel stopped spinning – why don’t you go up on one of the horses so I can take a picture?
_Great! But let’s do it fast, I don’t like his face – they glanced to the man at the control panel, frowning at them. He listened Zig’s proposal to Scarlett – I know it’s just for kids, but we just want to take a picture!
_Okay, but be really fast. We can’t hold the line too much – while he said that, Scarlett ran to a horse and straddled it. Zig took his phone and took some photos.
_She’s beautiful, isn’t she? – Zig turned to the man and he cracked up a little smile, nodding slightly – thank you so much, sir. Tomorrow is her birthday, and we’re already celebrating – Scarlett approached Zig and he hugged her by the waist with one arm.
_In this case, you two should ride the Ferris wheel. Couples love it during the night – he pointed to the Ferris wheel, also covered by flashing lights.
_Great! It’d be a perfect way to end our day here – she took her boyfriend’s hand and turned to the man – thanks for the tip, sir.
_Happy birthday – he smiled a little more, and Scarlett grinned.
_Thank you! – they walked to the Ferris wheel’s line – did you see that? We made someone smile today! – they chuckled.
_We’re so happy and having so much fun we managed to infect the others – they kissed as soon as they get in the line. On the seat Scarlett placed herself between Horton and Zig – I don’t want to risk, but the three of us are so tight in this car we wouldn’t need these security stuff – she laughed.
_Right, but as you said, we don’t want to risk – the ride started, and Scarlett held Horton with one hand and put the other on Zig’s thigh. He slid on arm around her shoulders – this day was awesome, babe, I loved every single thing we did – he kissed the top of her head.
_I wanted this day was memorable. I’m damn glad you enjoyed as much as me – they reached the top of the wheel, and they could see the entire park lightened in contrast with the dark night sky – so amazing. That guy was right.
_What a wonderful way to end our day!
_Hey, our day isn’t over yet, Scar!
_Really? Did you plan something else? – she looked at him, lifting an eyebrow.
_Well, no. But I was thinking of go to your house and having a… - he leaned down to her ear – a more intimate celebration – she grinned and ran her hand along his thigh.
