toothpaste-chan. pepsi-kun. the memes were foretold in the leaks released before the game's announcement. a design we all wished was fake.

yes i'm an Alear design hater. but I'm really truly holding out hope for how they will turn out in terms of the story. right now I'm leaning towards choosing male Alear just because of the inherent homoeroticism of him being paired with Marth, but everything I've heard from fem Alear's English voice acting has been solid and surprisingly aggressive!

the symbolic duality in the design feels pretty heavy-handed, but so does everything in this game so far. I'm more interested in how this duality presents itself in the broader plot. we've already seen Evil Red Alear (Evilear, Aleared? I wonder what the fandom nickname will end up being haha) some people speculate that Alear is the child of both the divine and fell dragons, and somehow that genetically presented itself as a poorly done split dye and homophobia in their eyes. i enjoy this theory, and the edgelord in my hopes that they go all in with a corruption arc.

i hope that whatever direction they choose to go, it wont be boring. if its a great arc with incredible growth and characterization, that's a win. If its stupid and ridiculous to the max, i can live with it. but if its boring... or anywhere near as frustrating as Corrin,,, i will be big sad.

but then again, i never play fe games for the self insert, i play for the rest of the ensemble! I just hope Intsys learned from Shez and gave the protag a distinct personality this time.

and also give them a dragon form... please... i beg...
