He campaigned as a Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight. . . He spent most of his career south of Heavyweight , Although he never won the Light Heavyweight title due to being heavily avoided , he did manage to win the NBA Heavyweight Title when he defeated Jersey Joe Walcott in 1949 by Decision. He then defeated his Idol and friend Joe Louis to win the Lineal Heavyweight Title. . . Charles lost the title by knockout 2 years later in his 3rd fight with fierce rival Jersey Joe Walcott in 1951. . . In his career Charles defeated a incredible amount of great fighters whome most of he fought 2 , 3 , 4 , and 5 times each.
