1. I love this scene. From the start of the movie when they give Maverick the mission details I was all giddy because I knew someone was flying an F-14 in this movie.
2. Where the FUCK did they get this thing?? The Navy finished retiring the F-14 in 2006, so at least ten years before they started making the movie. They’d been phasing it out for years before that. The only time I’ve even seen one was in a museum and some stripped-out parts at the boneyard in the Mojave. Given the commitment to practical effects, just WHERE DID THEY GET ONE that was even CLOSE to airworthy? The only military that still operates them is in Iran, and they sure as shit weren’t helping out on this movie. Grumman became part of Northrop Grumman and stopped building these things in the NINETIES. There’s some on a few bases but they’re display units and something tells me there’s not a lot of people left who know how to even get them to a point where you could taxi down a very short taxiway.
Anyway. That sounds like a fun project.

A glimpse of Mobile Alabama in 2023, with her "New Orlean" architecture and some classic cars. Did not linger any longer than I should, not wanting to keep friends waiting.
The half flag then was for Rosalynn Carter, wife of the 39th president Jimmy Carter, who recently passed away at a good old 96 years of age.
