Inspiring craft ideas
I'm always curious about handmade things - those I can make myself and those other people create. So today I'd like to show some eye-catching craft ideas that might inspire us to try something new, similar to what's featured in the post, or maybe give a fresh perspective on our favourite hobbies.
⬆ @ cakeatelieramsterdam These potted flowers are a wonder! I can't even make it out what they are made of - it's either paper or some kind of fabric... Looking like fantasy flowers, they seem to be so realistic at the same time with all their exaggerated beauty. The pots are so charming!
⬆ This heart-warming embroidery is by a Buenos Aires-based fiber artist, Adriana Torres My most fav crafting activity is making embroideries. I made the first steps together with my granny who taught me how to do satin stitch embroidery and french knots; but with time I got addicted to cross-stitch only, because it's easy and not time-consuming 0:) These days I'm spotting lots of beautiful embroideries using diverse stitch techniques (japanese embroidery is my biggest inspiration so far). Now I think I should definitely learn many different stitches to be then used in my upcoming projects.
⬆ image is from boligliv_dk Such a cool origami stars decoration. Actually it's been a while since I wanted to learn to make origami, and this image prompted me even more to do so :)
⬆ Blackberries by Nicki Franklin In love with this amazing embroidery! This would make such a great design, say, for a tablecloth or sachet pillow...
⬆...by u_River_Song_ (?) A juicy pomegranate smartly used as a patch on a denim piece! It's a mixed media creation - there're embroidery stitches, cords and crochet parts and, of course, beads.
⬆ And this is an "embroidered" light shade by an embroidery artist Valeria Faúndez-Chili. Probably an embroidered piece was just glued to the bucket... I don't know the actual size of it, but it looks like a tiny object to me. I imagine it might be found in a cute doll house...
⬆...source unknown :/ A lovely crocheted coaster for a warming atmosphere during tea time. It would be cool to make a set of matching crocheted coasters of my own... bookmarked! ;)
⬆...And this amazing embroidery is by a russian needle-and-thread artist, Rosa Andreeva @roniy1983. Every single detail is elaborately worked out, so delicate!
⬆...by a japanese embroidery designer, Juno This is a piece of beauty I instantly fell in love with! Such a delicate slice of lemon; haven't seen anything like that before. It could be a lovely sachet gift when filled e.g. with lavender flowers.
⬆...Oil pastel drawing by Matt Fussell in Pastels
+ And here, at domestika.org, one can take an online course to learn how to draw with oil pastels from professionals. Sounds cool, so I'm now thinking of it...
And finally, as a short summary, here's a list of things I'd love to try my hand at in the nearest future:
1. paper flowers
2. surface embroidery
3. different embroidery stitches
4. mixed media embroidery
5. origami
6. crochet coasters
7. oil pastel

Want to give a wedding gift that truly WOWs the bride and groom?!
Turn typical gifts into personal, handmade items the couple can cherish for years to come.
Is the bride registered for glass wine tumblers? Monogram them in a few simple steps!
Add a cute caption to the apron she will need when using all of her shower gifts.
Screen Printed Apron
Materials:
– Apron
– Fabric Paint
– Silhouette® Machine*
– Adhesive Vinyl and Transfer Material
– Embroidery Hoop
– Screen Fabric (Found at your local fabric store, like Jo-Ann Fabric®)
Steps: Follow this technique to screen print your desired text or image onto the apron.
Personalized Pyrex® Casserole Dish
This is a great idea to put the couple’s new last name on the dish. How many of us have brought lasagna to a potluck dinner, only to have the dish long gone like the delicious meal it once contained.
Materials:
– Armor Etch® Glass Etching Cream
– Pyrex® Casserole Dish
– Adhesive Vinyl and Transfer Material
– Silhouette® Machine*
Steps: Follow this tutorial to create a personalized glass casserole dish.
– This technique can be applied to any glass serve or drinkware.
– Add a tea towel or other kitchen utensils (Don’t forget to check the couple’s Wedding Registry for coordinating additions).
– This particular Pyrex® dish was on my friends registry so I decided to personalize it and include other kitchen related items to complete the gift.
*Follow these instructions to create your stencil if you do not have a die-cut machine: print the desired design out on plain paper, tape it to a piece of adhesive vinyl and cut the design using an X-Acto® knife.
Gift Basket
When in doubt, I always give a gift basket; Not the pre-made kind you can buy, but one that you fill with thoughtful little gifts. It’s so much fun collecting coordinating items to make a really personalized gift. Really impress the recipient with a couple handmade items! For this particular gift basket, my friend’s had a nautical-themed wedding – I made a set of rope coasters, etched wine tumblers, and gave them a bottle of their favorite brand of liquor.
Etched Glasses
Personalize these glass tumblers using the same technique as the Pyrex® dish above.
Coasters
Materials:
– Thick Jute Rope
– Fabric Paint or Screen Print Ink
– Adhesive Vinyl (Optional – Adhesive Transfer Material)
– Hot Glue Gun
– Silhouette® Machine (also can do without this machine, using an X-Acto® knife and simple printed stencil)
Steps:
– Starting from the inside and working your way out, start to coil the rope, adding a strip of hot glue every so often.
– Continue coiling and gluing until the coaster is the desired size. Add a dab of hot glue to the end of the rope to prevent fraying.
– Make sure the rope is flat when coiling. I laid mine on sheet of wax paper.
– Cut out the desired design using a Silhouette® die-cut machine on the adhesive vinyl.
– Follow these instructions to create your stencil if you do not have a die-cut machine.
– Peel the paper backing off the vinyl and stick the stencil on the coaster. Paint image, remove the stencil, and let dry.

WORDS TO LIVE BY
IDEA I LOVE, CROCHETspiration
Grab your crochet hook and a pair of rubber flip-flops and, oh baby, you will have boots to die for. Make them even better by weaving ribbons into your crochet, embellish, hand-dye, etc. If you have strong arches, these could be quite comfortable. If you have feet as flat as Donald Duck, well, you’re screwed. Here’s the tutorial on how to make a pair of your own boots: http://makeanddocrew.com/crochet-boots-flip-flops-pattern-video/

Documented 1971 Valentino Couture Italian Vogue Audrey Hepburn Gown Dress
DESIGNER: Valentino Couture, published in the 1971 Italian Vogue, in a different print, on model Isa Stoppi. The same blue version of this dress was worn by Audrey Hepburn in Italian Vogue 1971. The white long sleeve version of this dress, also seen in the photo with Isa Stoppi, was shown in the exhibit Valentino Retrospective. $42,999
You might disagree, but although this dress costs a mint, it reminds me of something that Eunice might wear.
IDEA I LOVE!
I think painting on fabric is an amazing talent. It’s an amazing way to create your own fabric. Can’t draw? So what? There are so many cheating tools you can use – lightboxes, computer printouts, embroidery transfer papers… Why not try it. It won’t break the bank, and you might just learn to love it. Click on the link for more information on how to rock your fabric: http://uniqart.blogspot.com/2015/02/tutorial-painting-on-fabric-with.html
BE DAZZLED!

IDEA I LOVE! KNITspiration!
These are the absolute cutest knitted pigs I’ve ever seen. I wish I could knit better; I’d try to tackle this. Instead, I’m going to have to sell my soul for one. Not only that, I’m guessing the knitting shops still don’t have pink yarn in stock after the run for the Women’s March hats (well, unless you’re in Franklin, Tennessee http://huff.to/2jzY8fT).

IDEA I LOVE!
A simple embroidery stitch can help you create the dopest border on napkins, collars, and almost anything (why not stitch on paper for homemade Valentine’s Day cards?). To learn the technique, click on the link:

IDEA I LOVE
Dollar Store here I come. Grab several colorful bags of garden glass and glue them to a window. Glorious. It’s so darn simple, but if I were you, I would campaign for the death penalty for anyone breaking a stained glass window before you make yours. Start here:

… and VALENTINEpiration IS HERE
These are designed to be fabric heart coasters. I love them but I’d be afraid that the seams might tip my full glass of Old Turkey onto my rug, leaving me no option than to suck the juice from the carpet (like it hasn’t been done before). You could add a little ribbon to the top so they can be used as doorknob decor. I’d also love to see some embroidery accenting the fabric used for the hearts. Here’s how you make these pretty Valentine coasters: http://www.thirtyhandmadedays.com/fabric-heart-coasters/
