People have this weird idea that not wanting kids is feminist while wanting kids is "supporting the patriarchy", when in reality the feminist stance is "women should be allowed to choose what they want"
Funny how people claiming to support women only support them if they shun anything associated with femininity at all.

In general I find backlash against characters becoming parents (in the source material or fan fiction) is just projection and virtue signaling to make their opinions sound progressive and righteous rather than purely down to preference. Typically they tie it to a queer headcanon (or more rarely canon) or pseudo feminism.
1) You relating to a character and not wanting kids doesn’t mean that they don’t want kids. Even if the traits that apply to them that also apply to you make YOU not want kids. Not everyone responds the same to having these traits. Someone having a bad home life doesn’t always mean they won’t want kids nor does being rebellious and free-spirited. A ton of people thought my mom would never have kids because they didn’t seem like the type to want them. She still did, and it wasn’t because of a drastic change in personality.
2) As said above, queer people do have kids, they’re among the biggest contributors to adoption and artificial insemination. Maybe your queer experience is tied to you not wanting kids but that’s not true for everyone. Regardless of whether the character is canonically queer, that has no bearing on whether they want kids.
3) For the pseudo feminism angel, it’s pseudo feminism because the idea that it’s regressive to have a woman have kids or that this makes her like, weaker and less of a strong, independent woman is a reinforcement of gender roles, not a subversion of them. Yes, the right not to be FORCED into a role of motherhood and housewife is a pillar of feminism. This doesn’t mean wanting to have kids is regressive or misogynistic. And the idea that when presented with a career or children, it was one or the other is ALSO misogynistic. Stay at home dads are a thing, and their stigmatization is tied to gender roles, and the notion that it’s kids vs. independence was (and still is in some places) a very common way to force woman to abandon their careers, and stigmatize women who worked for “hating kids” (even if it was a job in childcare or education). The only people who take “not having kids is feminist, having kids is misogyny” are believers in political lesbianism (the belief that sexuality IS a choice and lesbianism is the right one) and “radical” feminism (which IS technically a radical belief but it’s radical reactionary not, as the name suggests, the most hardcore, “pure” form of feminism), which most feminists and queer activists generally agree are completely insane.

Fandom Problem #8712:
People saying it's out of character for a character to state they want a family and a big house with several kids.
Excuse me, did we not watch the same show? This character has several siblings and they are all very close, especially with their neices and nephews too. Not just that, we get an episode where they visit her childhood home which is very large and has several pictures everywhere.
Not just that, this character is the "mom friend". She checks on everyone, gets to know the little things about them, and cares dearly for everyone.
So, please explain to me how this character saying she wants kids is out of character.

I'm curious; are male characters ever hounded for wanting kids?
The only time I see that happen is when they're hated by a fanbase or just a "real piece of work" so to say.

Hi I am the mom friend and I do not want kids, and nothing in my home affects that fact thank you.
Mom friend anon again forgot to say that my closeness with my family does not affect my desire for kids or lack thereof.
