How incredible would human medical and dental procedures be if they used a fear free approach???!?! Especially for anxious patients or those fearful of doctors/dentists.
Like:
Calm, quiet waiting room with relaxing music and some lavender incense
Sedative on board when you arrive so you're just chillin
Lots of different high value snack options for during (if possible) or afterwards ... think chocolates, chippies, lollies, heck maybe some fried chicken?!
Constant checking in to make sure you're dealing ok and stopping if it's getting too much
Gentle and calm communication the whole time with loads of positive reinforcement
Clear plans for before, during and after the procedure to make sure your anxiety is managed at every step possible
If it's getting too much stopping and rescheduling another day (if possible) or moving to a heavier sedation/twilight anaesthetic
Like the human world has a LOT to learn from the vet world about fear free approaches for anxious patients and I would LOVE for them to take a leaf out of our book.

my last post reminds me— do my mutuals know my job?? I am a certified veterinary technician. idk if I’ve actually ever said that explicitly on this site. I am literally exhausted 24/7. I have a job where I work 12 hour shifts, usually without any sort of break, wrestling animals (though I try not to because I’m a fear free certified professional) but like I lift 100lb dogs daily, and I am mentally exhausted by the adrenaline that courses through me when a cranky cat tries to bite my hand off, and then I come home and I have 2 special needs pets that consume any “free” time that I have so at times I feel like I’m working my job LITERALLY 24/7 and shit man it’s sooooooooo much but fuck I love it and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else but wow it’s really a fucked up and exhausting life that I live

Overcoming Common Pet Ownership Challenges: A Comprehensive Guide
Owning a pet is a deeply rewarding experience, but it can also present a host of unique challenges. As devoted pet owners, we encounter a wide range of issues, from behavioural quirks to health-related concerns. In this extensive article, we will explore these common challenges faced by pet owners and provide invaluable tips on how to effectively conquer them. Whether you're a first-time pet parent or a seasoned pro, these insights will equip you with the knowledge to confidently navigate the highs and lows of pet ownership.
Subtitle 1: Tackling Pet Separation Anxiety
Strategies for Coping with Pet Separation Anxiety: Dealing with pet separation anxiety can be a challenge. Many pets exhibit distress when left alone, which may lead to destructive behaviours and excessive barking. To help your pet cope with separation anxiety, consider gradually increasing the time they spend alone, ensuring they get exercise before you leave, providing engaging toys and treats, and exploring the use of calming products like pheromone diffusers.
Subtitle 2: Battling Boredom in Pets
Combatting Boredom: Engaging Your Furry Friend: Pets can become bored when they lack mental and physical stimulation, leading to undesirable behaviour. To keep your pets engaged, offer a variety of toys and rotate them regularly, introduce puzzles or interactive games, use slow feeder bowls to make mealtime more enriching, and ensure your pet gets ample exercise and playtime.
Subtitle 3: Dealing with Health Issues
Maintaining Pet Health: Expert Tips for a Happier Pet: Pets can suffer from various health issues, including allergies, digestive problems, and chronic conditions like diabetes or arthritis. To address these concerns, collaborate with your veterinarian to create a personalised treatment plan, consider medication, special diets, or other recommended interventions, and schedule regular veterinary check-ups for early detection of problems.
Subtitle 4: Effective Pet Training Techniques
Mastering Pet Training: Proven Tips for Obedience: Training your pet, whether for obedience or housebreaking, can be challenging. To achieve success, utilise positive reinforcement techniques like treats and praise, maintain consistency in your training methods, and seek the assistance of professional trainers if necessary.
Subtitle 5: Managing Pet Aggression
Addressing Pet Aggression: From Fear to Harmony: Pets can display aggression due to fear, territorial behaviour, or other factors. To manage and reduce aggression, consult your veterinarian for guidance and consider working with a professional pet behaviourist to address the root cause if necessary. Positive reinforcement training can play a vital role in managing aggression, encouraging your pet to associate positive outcomes with desirable behaviour.
Subtitle 6: Coping with Noise Phobia
Calming Your Pet during Noisy Times: Strategies for Peace: Loud noises, like fireworks or thunderstorms, can trigger anxiety in some pets. To help your pet cope with these situations, create a quiet and safe space for your pet to retreat to, use white noise or calming music to drown out loud sounds, and explore calming products like thunder shirts.
Subtitle 7: Alleviating Travel Anxiety
A Stress-Free Travel Experience: Easing Your Pet's Worries: Traveling with a pet can be stressful if your furry companion experiences anxiety. To ease travel-related stress, gradually introduce your pet to the car or carrier, offer treats and toys as distractions during travel, and consider using calming products like pheromone diffusers. Consistency is key when exposing your pet to different travel experiences.
Subtitle 8: Managing Destructive Behaviour
Curtailing Destructive Behaviour: Strategies for Harmony: Chewing furniture, scratching, or digging can be problematic for any pet parent. To manage this destructive behaviour, provide plenty of toys and outlets for your pet's energy, supervise your pet closely, and consider using deterrents like bitter spray when necessary.
Subtitle 9: Addressing Biting or Scratching
Resolving Biting or Scratching: From Aggression to Peace: Biting or scratching can result from fear or aggression. To address these behaviours, collaborate with a professional behaviourist, identify the root cause, and implement a modification plan.
Subtitle 10: Combating Pet Obesity
Overcoming Pet Obesity: Strategies for a Healthier Pet: Obesity in pets can result from overfeeding and a lack of exercise. To combat pet obesity, follow a vet-approved healthy diet and exercise plan, create opportunities for your pet to stay active, and establish regular mealtimes and control portions.
Subtitle 11: Preventing Fleas and Ticks
Preventing Fleas and Ticks: Safeguarding Your Pet's Comfort: Fleas and ticks can be uncomfortable for pets and may transmit diseases. To prevent infestations, use flea and tick preventative treatments as recommended by your veterinarian, regularly groom your pet to remove parasites, and clean and treat your pet's environment to eliminate pests.
Subtitle 12: Supporting Aging Pets
Supporting Your Aging Pet: A Comfortable and Loving Environment: As pets age, they may experience health challenges and mobility issues. To support your aging pet, provide a well-balanced diet tailored to their needs, offer love and attention to ensure their comfort and well-being, and consider mobility aids like ramps or orthopedic beds if necessary. Don't forget to schedule regular veterinary check-ups.

Affordable Pet Care: Keeping Your Furry Friend Happy on a Budget
Pets bring immense joy, companionship, and unconditional love to our lives. However, responsible pet ownership comes with its share of expenses. From food and grooming to medical care and toys, the costs can add up quickly. But fear not, as this article delves into creative ways to provide quality care for your beloved pet without breaking the bank.  Best vet clinic in Dubai
1. Proper Nutrition
While it might be tempting to go for the fanciest pet food brands, remember that affordable options can still provide the necessary nutrition. Check the ingredient lists and nutritional information to ensure your pet's dietary needs are being met. Additionally, consider buying pet food in bulk to save money in the long run.
2. Homemade Treats and Toys
You don't need to splurge on store-bought treats and toys. There are numerous recipes online for DIY pet treats using simple, cost-effective ingredients from your kitchen. Similarly, many household items can be repurposed into toys, providing mental stimulation and entertainment for your pet.
3. Preventive Healthcare
Regular vet visits can prevent costly health issues in the long term. Look for low-cost vaccination clinics or community events that offer basic veterinary services at reduced rates. Additionally, research online for resources that provide information on at-home preventive care, like grooming techniques and dental hygiene practices.
4. Grooming on a Budget
Grooming services can be expensive, but with a bit of effort, you can maintain your pet's hygiene at home. Learn to trim nails, brush fur, and clean ears and teeth yourself. Invest in affordable grooming tools that will pay for themselves over time.
5. Exercise and Entertainment
Keeping your pet active and engaged doesn't have to be costly. Take advantage of free outdoor spaces like parks and trails for walks and playtime. Engage in interactive play with simple items like balls or strings, which can be just as entertaining as store-bought toys.
6. Pet Insurance
While it might seem like an extra expense, pet insurance can actually save you money in case of unexpected medical emergencies. Research different plans to find one that fits your budget and covers your pet's potential needs.
7. Basic Training at Home
Invest time in training your pet at home. Teaching basic commands and behaviors can prevent accidents and costly damages. There are plenty of online resources and videos that guide you through the training process step by step.
8. Socializing and Mental Stimulation
Pets thrive on social interaction and mental stimulation. Set up playdates with friends who have pets or attend local pet-friendly events. Regular interaction can prevent behavioral issues that might require costly professional interventions. Veterinary clinic near me
Conclusion
Affordable pet care is not about compromising your pet's well-being, but rather finding creative ways to provide the best possible care within your budget. With a little research, a dash of resourcefulness, and a lot of love, you can ensure your furry friend lives a happy, healthy life without draining your bank account.

A Parent's Guide to Teaching Your Toddler About Death
When your child inquires about death, you as a parent are never ready. When a toddler asks this question, it can be especially difficult to respond. This circumstance may arise after a death or when your child's curiosity is growing. Losing someone is challenging enough without having to explain it to your young child in such a situation. We're going to look at various aspects of how to explain death to a toddler in order to assist you.
How to Explain Death to Children
It can be challenging to discuss death with children, but it's crucial to do so in a straightforward and honest manner.
A parental monitoring app is a software application that allows parents to monitor their children's online activities, including their internet usage, social media activity, and text messaging. These apps are designed to help parents keep their children safe from cyberbullying, online predators, and inappropriate content.
Tumblr media
Be practical
The best strategy is to discuss death as a normal aspect of life that affects everyone eventually. You can elucidate that although death is a concept we don't always comprehend, it's nothing to be afraid of. It's acceptable to be sad when someone passes away, but it's also acceptable to honor their life.
When to Bring Up Death
You must be sensitive to the age and comprehension of toddlers when discussing death. Saying someone died and that they were gone might be sufficient for younger kids. Older kids might be interested in learning more about death.
Engaged Listening
When your toddler is expressing their feelings about the loss of a loved one, it's important to pay attention. Although it can be a sensitive and challenging subject, it's crucial to be open and honest with your child. They might ask you a lot of questions, so exercise patience and respond appropriately. You can always speak with a specialist if you're unsure how to broach the subject.
Owning Your Own Emotions
You should feel free to express your sadness in front of your child; it's only natural. Tell them how you're feeling if you're depressed and crying, and reassure them that it's okay to show your emotions in public. This will help kids identify, experience, and express their own feelings more effectively. Your child will feel empathy and realize they are not alone as a result.
Small children's Grief
According to Unicef, young kids under the age of five frequently don't comprehend that dying is a permanent state. They might ponder whether the deceased person will make a comeback. They might also cling to their caregiver or engage in regressive behaviors like bedwetting. These actions frequently occur and typically end after a certain period of time.
You can try telling a story or using analogies to help a child who is having trouble understanding death. Whatever method you choose, it's crucial to exercise patience and understanding. Even adults find it difficult to understand the concept of death, much less a young child under the age of five. You can assist them in accepting this challenging reality by taking the time to explain it in a way that they can comprehend.
How to Communicate a Pet's Death to a Toddler
One of the hardest parts of losing a pet is probably telling the bad news to kids. In an environment where they will feel safe and at ease and where they won't be easily distracted, try to do it one-on-one.
If your pet is very old or sick, think about speaking to kids before it passes away. If you have to put your pet to sleep, you should explain:
The veterinary professionals have made every effort.
Your pet's condition won't improve.
This is the most kind-hearted method of eradicating it.
The animal's suffering will end when it passes away peacefully, free from pain or fear.
Conclusion
The most crucial thing is to be honest and patient with your toddler no matter how you decide to discuss death with them. Children must learn how to handle death in a healthy way because it is a part of life. You can look at the Safes' blogs to find out more parenting advice. Safes is a parental control app that lowers the stress of parenting in the digital age by assisting parents in keeping an eye on their kids' online behavior. It is compatible with Windows, Macbooks, Android, and iOS.

Polysporin for Dogs: The Truth about it's safety and use.
Tumblr media
Polysporin for Dogs - Ah, Polysporin—the familiar antibiotic skin ointment found in many stores across the United States, ready to come to the rescue for minor wounds and abrasions in humans. But can this popular ointment be used to treat your dog's wounds? Ah, the temptation to grab that over-the-counter antibiotic and take matters into your own hands! However, veterinary health experts generally advise against it. But fear not! There are situations where Polysporin can safely treat your furry friend's wounds. Let's dive in and uncover the truth behind Polysporin's role in your dog's wound care.
What is Polysporin, Anyway?
Polysporin is the catchy brand name for an over-the-counter antibiotic skin ointment and antibiotic eye and ear drops manufactured by the well-known Johnson & Johnson. This wonder ointment contains a combination of two antibiotics: bacitracin zinc and polymyxin B sulphate. It's widely available and easily accessible in stores throughout the United States. However, it's important to note that Polysporin eye and ear drops are not sold in the United States except on eBay. Instead, they can be found over the counter in Canada.
Safety First: Is Polysporin Safe for Dogs? Are Polysporin ear drops safe for dogs?
Tumblr media
Are Polysporin ear drops safe for dogs? Is Polysporin Safe for Dogs? Here's the deal: Polysporin is a skin antibiotic ointment used to treat human skin infections, specifically minor cuts. So, can it be used for your dog's skin? Yes, but with a few precautions. Polysporin skin ointment can be used safely for minor cuts or injuries on your dog's skin, but this should only be done under veterinary supervision.  Are Polysporin ear drops safe for dogs? It's important to remember that Polysporin ear and eye products are intended for human use and are ineffective in treating canine eye or ear infections. Keep those Polysporin ear drops away from your dog's precious peepers and floppy ears!
Polysporin versus Neosporin: The Battle of the Ointments
In wound care for dogs, Polysporin faces stiff competition from its triple antibiotic ointment counterpart, Neosporin. Professionals in the United States tend to lean more towards Neosporin than Polysporin, mainly because Neosporin contains an additional ingredient that Polysporin lacks: neomycin sulphate. Neosporin comes in two versions: an over-the-counter skin ointment for minor cuts in humans and a prescription Neosporin Ophthalmic for humans, also available in veterinary ophthalmic versions. Remember, over-the-counter Neosporin should never be used in your dog's eyes or ears—stick to the prescription version for those sensitive areas. Also Read: Can Dogs Eat Nopales? Discover the Benefits and Tasty Recipes!
Navigating the Proper Use of Polysporin on Dogs
Let's discuss where you can safely use Polysporin on your four-legged pal. The key takeaway is that Polysporin skin ointment is specifically meant for human skin abrasions and should never be used in your dog's eyes or for treating ear infections. Instead, it can be cautiously used on minor scrapes on your furry friend. However, it's crucial to consult with your veterinarian before applying Polysporin to your dog's skin. Certain wounds, such as hot spots (pyoderma), deep wounds, or rashes from serious allergic reactions, require professional care and may not be suitable for Polysporin treatment.
Exploring Alternatives to Polysporin for Your Dog's Wounds
When treating your dog's minor wounds, you may wonder if there are natural alternatives to Polysporin. Well, good news! Some alternative veterinarians prefer natural treatment options to clean and speed up the healing process of minor dog wounds. These options include: - Normal Saline Solution: This simple yet effective solution can gently cleanse the wound and promote healing. - Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel: In small quantities (only once or twice a day), witch hazel can clean the wound and provide some antiseptic properties. However, it's important to note that witch hazel should not be used on dry skin as it can worsen the condition. - Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, turmeric can be applied topically to aid in wound healing. However, it's advisable to consult with your veterinarian before using turmeric on your dog. - Herbal Tree Rinses: Chamomile or St. John's wort rinses can be used as natural wound cleansers and may help soothe and promote healing. Always dilute these herbal extracts appropriately and follow your veterinarian's advice. - Medical-Grade Honey Ointment: Honey has long been recognized for its antibacterial properties and ability to promote wound healing. The medical-grade honey ointment can be applied to minor wounds, but consult your veterinarian before using it. Remember, discussing these natural remedies with your veterinarian before using them on your dog is crucial. They will provide guidance based on your dog's specific needs and the nature of the wound.
Precautions When Using Polysporin on Dogs
Tumblr media
Precautions When Using Polysporin on Dogs While Polysporin is generally safe for minor scrapes and abrasions on dogs, there are a few precautions to remember. Firstly, neither Polysporin nor Neosporin skin ointments should ever be applied to your dog's eyes or ears. These products are not formulated for such use and may cause serious side effects if ingested or applied incorrectly. If your dog shows any signs of allergic reactions or swelling after using Polysporin, contact your veterinarian immediately. It's important to note that Polysporin Ear is ineffective in treating ear mites, yeast infections, or other common causes of ear infections in dogs. For any discomfort or infection in your dog's ears, it's best to have it assessed and treated by a veterinarian. Also Read: The Power of Aggressive Dog Board and Train Programs
Polysporin for Dogs - The Takeaway: Contact Your Veterinarian
In conclusion, Polysporin can have a role in treating minor cuts and wounds on dogs' skin, but it should only be used under veterinary supervision. Never put Polysporin or Neosporin in your dog's eyes or ears, as these products are not intended for such use. Regarding your dog's health, it's always best to consult your veterinarian for proper diagnosis, guidance, and treatment. They will recommend the most appropriate action based on your dog's condition, ensuring the best possible care and outcome. So, next time your four-legged companion has a wound, reach out to your DVM and let them guide you on the best course of action. Together, you'll ensure your dog receives the care they deserve and help them heal quickly! Read the full article

Story continues
Stress is one of the primary reasons for veterinary visits, and post-pandemic, and is even more prevalent in dogs. Pressure can be from many factors, including separation, past trauma, loud noises, veterinary visits, grooming or kennel visits, and even picking up on stress in their people. Understanding and addressing stress in pets, both from a behavioral and a calming standpoint, is the most effective combination for stress mitigation.

What is Fear Free?
Fear Free is a new perception in veterinary remedy which aims to recognize and diminish fear, anxiety, and stress allied with visits to the veterinary hospital. Achieving this takes effort and involves active communication between the owner and our veterinary squad, but the incentive is a better experience and less strain for all involved —pet, yourself, and our team.
At times, minor sedatives or anti-anxiety treatments can be used before your visit or in the hospital to lessen fear, anxiety, or pressure in the patient if needed and, if not contraindicated based on the medical requirements. The Fear Free idea doesn’t stop at the hall or exam room: it prolongs throughout the hospital. It is as much a significance of our team as the medical care for your pet.

After sharing it on story, it's time to post it on my feed! You can follow @tromplo for course updates. Have suggestions for future courses? Message me or answer in story highlight! 🐈🐕 I hold a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science (Pre-Vet), a minor in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Upon graduation, I became a zoo animal care keeper intern and learned about cooperative husbandry care and clicker training. I went on to work at an animal welfare organization in my home country, Indonesia. It was then I realized the importance of pet parent education in reducing dogs and cats abandonment and relinquishment to shelters or the streets. After volunteering at a wildlife facility in Tasikoki Sulawesi, I pursued dog training.  Unfortunately, the dog training culture in Indonesia is still ridden with punishment and outdated myths. I came across Karen Pryor Academy and registered in their Dog Trainer Foundations. It connected me to more courses, webinars, and conferences I could attend and to other trainers with similar training philosophies. In 2019, I founded Furry Pawsitive. I mostly work with dogs and their owners, but I especially love encouraging children who are curious about their family dogs or cats to observe or to participate. I teach private and group classes in the Cibubur area (Bogor and Jakarta) and online lessons outside of the area. I am an instructor for Puppy Start Right Preschool (including its online hybrid option). I encourage clients to focus on cooperative husbandry training for daily life to reduce pet stress in preparation for a salon or the vet. For pet groomers and veterinary professionals, I teach the foundations of behavior and focusing on low-stress handling and fear-free principles. I am dedicated to advocating for animal welfare and humane animal training, educating pet parents, spreading awareness and knowledge of reward-based training in Indonesia, and pursuing continuing education for quality and up-to-date animal training and behavior modification. I am always looking for insights on implementing “errorless learning” procedures. I am also a supporting member of the IAABC. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf_n12jJtp_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey, so I saw a post of yours about no kill shelters. I thought they were like good or supposed to be good. Are they bad? Like whats your opinion on them? You work with animals so I feel you have a pretty solid look at things
Hello, thank you for your question. A little about me for those who do not know. I have been working professionally with animals for over seven years now, and my current position is with an “Open-admission” shelter/Animal Cruelty Task force that I’ve been at for three years. I have a Bachelors in Animal Science/Wildlife Biology and a certificate in canine behavior, Fear-Free certified, and am SAFER test certified. In that time my opinion about No-Kill/Limited-Admission shelters has TANKED.
This is going to sound very angry in some parts and it is by NO means directed at you, anon. I love this question, I love giving information about this topic, I just have a lot of passion for what I do.
This is long. I’m so sorry.
Let me first dive into what it means to work at an Open-Admission shelter or what assholes so lovingly call us--a kill shelter. We never turn anyone away. So this means not only do we get amazing animals, we get the sick, aggressive, and low quality of life animals that No-Kill shelters have turned away and now this owner has nowhere else to go.
We NEVER euthanize for time or space. EVER. We only euthanize for extreme health or behavioral reasons that give the animal a low quality of life, or a failure to thrive, or make them a danger to themselves or others. Age is not a reason, I adopted out a 15 year old cat a month ago. We do dentals, we do heartworm treatments, we do amputations. We work with breed specific rescues if we cannot adopt them out, and we have trainers and a behavioral rehab program. Euthanasia is the LAST option. And it must be signed off on by THREE separate parties (myself is one of those parties), if we all do not agree, the animal goes back through the process and we try something else.
It is not something that is EVER taken lightly, and as I have told my clients who have called me an “animal killer” or asked me how I sleep at night, I wouldn’t work here if I thought this was something we were flippant about. I have to sleep at night, I have to go home and look my own animals in the eyes and know I did my best. I am not the dog catcher with a net twirling my mustache. No one on my staff ever wakes up and says, “oh boy! It’s euthanasia day!” These preconceived notions of what we really do is warped by the people who hide behind their keyboards and share the doctored facebook memes about how we line them all up execution style--that is not a thing.
No facility in a metropolitan area euthanizes for space or time in 2020. We are regulated by the department of agriculture, we have licenses, we have government officials frequently come check our books, facilities, and inventory. What you see is what you get.
Now, if you want to go to a rural area, tiny, middle of nowhere shelter? Sure. But I cannot speak for those.
Yesterday I had a lady bring me a stray cat, and like with all surrenders, I had to say my legal spiel at the end before she signed it over to my facility. “In the state of __ animals are considered property. Once you sign the property over to me, I cannot release it back to you or give you information on possible adoption or possible euthanasia. Each animal is evaluated by veterinary professionals. We are not a no-kill shelter. We never euthanize for time or space but do reserve the right to humanely euthanize for extreme health or behavioral reasons. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, if not, sign on the line.” I COULD RECITE THIS IN MY SLEEP AFTER THREE YEARS…. This lady. This fucking lady. Looked me in the eyes and said, “Oh, so you’re just going to kill it?” Bitch that is not what I said. “Oh well then nevermind. I'll take it somewhere else because I need to be right with my god.”
I have never wanted to tell someone to go to hell so badly in my life.
No, let's talk about No-Kill Shelters.
Some No-Kill shelters thrive very well and this is for one reason, they are limited admission. If they know the animal will not be a good adoption candidate or they will have problems finding it a home for whatever reason, they will turn it away. There is a No-Kill shelter up here in my area, that I work very closely with and they are reasonable--meaning, when an animal that once belong to them gets surrendered to my shelter for reasons that make it unadoptable or have a very low quality of life, they give me permission to move forward with our polices, aka: euthanasia. The euthanasia stays off of their books and goes on to mine, which is a hit that I take because it means doing what is best for the animal. Then there are No-Kill shelters that are a scam and boast about how they are heaven sent because they are anti-euthanasia but what they do is, in my opinion, worse. There is a No-Kill facility here that I will not name but that I cannot even say without putting a bad taste in my mouth.
They have a dog from Hurricane Katrina. That was 15 years ago. This dog has been in their shelter for 15 years. He is dog aggressive, he is people aggressive. He has an extensive bite history, and mental deterioration from trauma and extensive shelter life. No one can touch him or walk him. He is in his kennel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a back part that they move him to in order to clean him and feed him.
But that's better than euthanisia, right? No. It absolutely isn’t. That is a horrible quality of life and I will argue every time that giving that dog the peace and mental rest of humane euthanisia is better than waiting for him to die of natural causes in his kennel.
These are the cases they don’t tell you about. The animals that you don’t get to see. They hide behind the fallacy of the idea that any shelter that isn’t a no-kill is a big bad scary place and they are angels for saving them all. But here’s the thing. You can’t save them all.
But I can sure as hell love them all. I wish anyone who has ever spoken ill of a facility that is not a no-kill could see how many times my staff have been on the floor with an animal, sobbing and making sure it didn’t leave this world alone. Humanity failed them. But in THAT MOMENT we cared about them. We cared enough to say, you don’t have to suffer anymore. Every animal that walks through my doors is treated with respect, dignity, and NO ONE DIES ALONE. EVER.
There are no gas chambers. There are no mass rooms where fifty happen at once. It is one animal, being held by one technician and most of them eat peanut butter as the drug takes effect. Their last memories are food, and being held, and then going to sleep. Honestly. That’s better than a lot of ways one could leave this world.
