I saw there are a lot of forest fire in chile right now. are you gonna be okay?
Three days after the fact, yeah, I'll be fine, personally and physically, but it's dire, I'm not going to lie. I've never seen so much fire in my life. When you think about a big fire, your impression might be two or three buildings on fire with some firefighter trucks spraying water at it. This was kilometers upon kilometers of raging blazes. Kilometers. Heads up if you are sensitive to these kinds of posts, this isn't a happy one.
Tumblr media
Entire hills on fire. Lush green hills reduced to ash and smoke.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the urban parts that got hit badly
Tumblr media
The official death toll keeps increasing each passing hour as they clear up the rubble and ruins and find more corpses. People I know lost everything. Some people I know lost their loved ones. Dogs are eating corpses on the street because they haven't picked them up yet, so you have neighbors warding off said dogs. Bodies get picked up too badly burned, eaten, decomposed, or a mix thereof to be identified.
It's a tragedy. It all reeks of smoke, there's ash everywhere.
It was sudden, it was brutal. Seeing elderly survivors wondering "what's next for me? I don't have enough years left among the living to rebuild all I lost, all I worked for throughout my life, gone like that" breaks my heart. The government is offering all sorts of aid, but there's also people whose documents, like ID and other identifying documentation, was lost in the fire, so they have to get re-issued an ID before they can actually start filing for aid. The SML (Servicio Médico Legal) is oversaturated with all that's suddenly on their plate and can't return the bodies of people to their families yet, and these are all people that still need food, shelter, hygiene, and so on after the fact. Seeing the logistical nightmare that becomes life after you lose everything firsthand from other people is sobering and painful. Yeah, they survived, but what comes next? It's a sense of uncertainty that is smothering and asphyxiating, it's hopelessness.
I apologize if I come across as dramatic, especially so as someone who was luckily not affected, but it really, really has been heartbreaking to witness, especially from very up close, as I was there, and it's one thing to know of a tragedy that happened elsewhere, maybe even in your own country, but elsewhere, and it's a whole other beast to have seen it directly as it unfolded.
Keep Chile in your thoughts. If you are able to, please consider donating to Desafío Levantemos Chile, to my knowledge the only drive that accepts Paypal, thus, foreign donations, to help the various efforts to rebuild and aid those affected. Desafío Levantemos Chile dates back to 2010, when Chile got hit by a devastating earthquake, and is an NGO that bases its continued existence in being able to provide aid during catastrophes such as this one.

do we know why Niji nuked Selen's contract?
well, the "official" reasoning they gave was that she breached contract and said misleading things on social media.
ofc, the first we have basically no info on bc anything relevant on that end involves NDAs. the second is basically corporate speak for "do not shit talk the company or else" considering the only related thing that comes to mind for this is her last cup of coffee cover being privated and her posting abt it on twitter
with that said, they probably fired her for openly defying en management and also calling them out on their gross incompetence. this isn't isolated, as it's been corroborated by other former niji members Nina/Matara (surprised at having a helpful manager), Mysta/K9Kuro (same as the former), and Zaion/Sayu (ghosted by her manager for weeks on end before her termination)
also, selen/dokibird in a chat message for an upcoming stream said that she was caught off guard by the termination announcement, which... well. par for the course re: nijien management and miscommunication at this point, honestly

@fefeman yeah!! i think its pretty well written overall. Miguel is the edgy 90′s anti hero. He sees life as just a series of losses and necessary sacrifices, and he’s projecting that viewpoint onto the rest of them. Very much sees himself as the guy who’s doing what has to be done, making the hard but necessary choices the rest of them wont. And i think the older and more battered they are the more likely any given spider person is to buy into his logic bc they cant bring back the people they’ve lost and at least this way those losses had some kind of meaning. Which explains why this revolution comes from the younger spiders who still have people to lose and aren’t really cool with the idea that those deaths are predestined.
but to an outside observer its pretty apparent that miguel is just. coping really badly with the death of his daughter. Like he has to believe this “canon event” theory because otherwise that horrific loss was just a fluke or a mistake.

What else can you tell me about this?
I think my only response to this would be to just copy and paste a relevant passage from my own story (the one you mentioned, actually).
It's a fantasy story set in a world that is otherwise very much like our own, and is basically a series of "what if everything I've read was just a fantasy story, instead of, say, nonfiction?" But there is a lot of magic, and people with magical powers can do things that are very unlike anything in our world – one of the primary powers is "shapeshifting," and a very common effect of this is to make people grow a second head underneath the first one (often just growing a new head with the hair, but in one case where they used the head as a "cage," the "head" came with an extra torso attached to it). (In the story, I have a human character named Fefeman – I think I picked this character, and the setting, at random, and have no connection to Fefeman and his magic besides that I made a choice?)

I'm thinking he also didn't have the bigger picture of the VA struggle and how this would have been just another nail in the coffin for them had she accepted that offer. I will need to send him that post with the other VAs being mistreated so Bayo's VA message gets across

watch out tho, a lot of the jokes are hard to translate so the quality of the dub/sub is gonna matter a lot.
Je t'adore, mon ami, mais je parle francais haha
So, I think Asterix specifically, I'll be okay on. Though, I WILL keep an eye on the English subs if Ari watches it with me.

@fefeman magic and mystery in nasuverse is actually very easy to understand, in that the less you know the better. by which i mean, it’s not that there is no sense in the magic system, but rather its a case of one mage going “magic doesn’t work like that!” and the opponent going “prove it, then!” and because they can’t prove it, the spell works and their dicks explode or whatever
the reason wodime in olympus can use the stars and constellations as a giant magic circuit to cast fuck you is literally because the laws of physics hadn’t been invented yet, so there was no kind of prevailing scientific explanation held by the collective humanity to say “hey that doesn’t work”, therefore he can make it happen

any expectations/predictions about the DLC you might like to share, Mr Dreamo?
(This is about the Elden Ring DLC)
My expectations are very high, because FromSoft has always done their very best on DLCs to their games, due to a strong internal culture of taking in criticisms of their base games and trying to rectify them while elevating their base, solid formula. It's why they tend to take a while with DLC: They don't immediately go into DLC development as soon as their base game ends, at least not in full (they likely do conceptual groundwork and all the sundry parts you don't really need a lot of feedback for, like world assets and such), they always take their sweet time cranking out those bad boys, and it always feels like they address the weaknesses of their base games in their DLC.
So to hear that this is the biggest expansion they've ever produced as a company is not surprising at all: Elden Ring is, by far, their biggest game. And not only that, they managed to make an open world game that actually feels full. Miyazaki mentioned in an interview that the DLC map will be as big, if not bigger, than Limgrave, and Limgrave in terms of size alone is like a fourth of the base game, so That's Pretty Impressive (though... Is he counting the Weeping Peninsula in there? WP is part of Limgrave so I assume he is but there was no specificity). There's also apparently 8 new equipment categories, which is kind of insane to me? Likely they'll have 1-3 weapons each obviously but making 8 new equipment types is also pretty ambitious. We saw Dueling Shields, and we've heard rumors of odachi as well (Walmart Mortal Blade real?), and I will be cautious in my enthusiasm and assume it won't be 8 new weapon types specifically (probably some kooky meme items there like the double door shields or some gimmick torch with attacks from DS3, wouldn't be Fromsoft without clown nose equipment) but new weapon types outright is in fact a perfect way to revitalize a game further. All I want is for the new weapons to be relatively easily accessed for new characters instead of necessarily an endgame or NG+ deal unless you're willing to kill endgame bosses with a very low level character so we can do full NG runs with these new toys (see: Moonlight Greatsword runs or Rakuyo runs in Bloodborne. Have fun REALLY learning Ludwig and Maria on no-hit formats! Hope you brought plenty Fire and Bolt Paper, respectively!)
And my biggest hope, perhaps even cope, is that the triple flying kicks we saw in the trailer are Martial Arts weapons and not just an Ash of War. If the Bone Fist from DS2 finally returns in spirit, you will catch me dropkicking player and god alike until the end of time.

So now that the polls are closed on Round 1A, here's some comments on each match that had me on the floor throughout yesterday and this morning:
Match 1, Vimes vs. Mal
First of all PLEASE read this story of how @thestuffedalligator imagined the fight would go, it's GREAT.
Maladict would win the fight. Vimes would make sure of it.
--@thisblogisboundforglory-blog
Vimes is meaner. Maladict's a sweetie but also a poseur.
--@ellynneversweet
Match 2, Moist vs. Whiteface
See I love Moist he's my boy. But I don't think he'd actually win in a Fight. I think he'd find some way to get out of it rather than actually fighting in it. Meanwhile that clown is absolutely out to kill.
--@omicheese
Ok this one's decently close. But Mr. Slightly Damp could run circles around him. Clown on clown violence. But frankly Mr. Mildly Wet is the Stronger Clown. Not physically but in Clown Logic. Listen it's borderline toon logic. The winner the one for whom it would be Objectively Funnier for them to win.
--@nonbinaryspacegoo
Moist does some of his best work when he's trying to avoid something. IE participating in this fight. he's also self aware of the whole can't con a con-artist/can't cheat a cheater way of the world, and knows how to work that to his advantage. I have limited knowledge of the doc but even if he's capable of the same thought process, I think Moist would be more successful just because he'd put on a better show of being a sad pathetic wet meow meow boy. In order to make an opportunity to pull a trick. On account of being a poor wet little meow meow boy.
--@violetren
Match 3, Cohen vs. Reg
Reg I am so sorry. But you are dead and he doesn't want to be.
--@coredesignixandnekonee
This one is contrary to what most people would think, I think, but like, Reg Shoe was so determined in his goals in life that he came back as a zombie. So. I think if he were determined enough to beat Cohen, even though Cohen is nigh unbeatable, he would do it. Even if that's just simply by outliving Cohen or something ridiculous, as long as he has the conviction, he'd do it.
--@theeldritchbat
Trick question. Neither would win, they'll keep a back and forth of avoiding death for ever. Creating the first ever perpetual motion machine.
--@fefeman
Match 4, Mrs. Gogol vs. Rob Anybody
THIS ONE IS TOUGH. Because I think Rob would be very conflicted about fighting any hag, they'll curse you so hard you know. In the end I did vote Rob though, either because he'd avoid any curses by stepping in and out of reality, or just by annoying the shit out of Gogol enough to where she's like "Yknow what?? FINE. YOU WIN. LEAVE."
--@purpledemoncat
ppl saying Rob would win smh. listen love the guy. maybe in a straight fistfight with no other factors at play but like. They're freaked by witches my guy. She could use even her easiest headology and he's OUT.
--@nonbinaryspacegoo
Match 5, Detritus vs. the Dean
I mean...yes, the Dean is a wizard, he's got magic...but he's *the Dean*. Historically, not known for making good choices. I think Detritus could handle him.
--@theeldritchbat
Detritus may have his weaponry much closer to hand (and much more weaponizable hands), but the Dean fought his way to the upper echelons of UU and gets *distressingly* into mock-fighting (see: the Paintball Incident). I know that this fight is supposed to start friendly, but the Dean is going to escalate faster than Detritus, who is well aware that everyone who isn't him tends to squish.
--@the-damn-things-overlap
The Dean would take a bit picking the right spell and preparing it. So my first instinct is Detritus. But then again the Dean only got where he is and stayed there by being good at not getting got and being able to get others. However on second thought he is used to working against other flimsy old white men. So yeah no still Detritus.
--@violetren
Match 6, Granny vs. Susan
Their fight would consist of a staring contest and you can't change my mind. Susan would last a good long time but blink eventually because she has young, plump eyeballs. Granny will not blink, because she has fallen asleep with them open. Granny don't give a fuck.
--@purpledemoncat
Look Granny Weatherwax would probably win in like 98% of situations. But this particular situation feels like it'd be similar to taking her to the theatre and she'd just be vaguely annoyed and unsure what was going on. And Susan would find the whole situation inconvenient and stupid but would understand the assignment. So she'd just steamroll through just so it would be over. And if she did it quickly enough I think she'd get a technical win over Granny. However she would then have an unhappy and clued in Granny on her hands at the end of it. So like then she'd be in trouble. Anyways I voted Susan because sometimes it's fun to go for the perceived underdog. Honestly believe that who would win would be purely situational because they are both stone cold badasses.
--@violetren
Match 7, Nutt vs. Harry King
I didn't know where to go with this one. I feel like Harry King Makes Shit Happen (no joke intended) and Nutt needs a solid reason to make shit happen. Nutt might accidentally win, but Harry King would win on purpose.
--@theeldritchbat
Ok in a real fight Nutt would win. But in a play fight he'd be too nice to not lose you see.
--@handern
Match 8, Magrat vs. the Librarian
Both are capable of speakable violence (casual willingness to use Goodie Whemper(maysherestinpeace)'s Turn Your Bones Into Hot Lead spell vs get twisted apart) but I have a hard time imagining the Librarian convincing his opponent that he has agreed to nonviolence. The Librarian probably proposes some sort of game since he understands he isn't meant to do any twisting. But then you are in a Chess with Chewbacca scenario. You had better be too foolish to see why winning would be bad or have nerves of steel and ice in your veins. I say foolish but really I mean foolish and talented or foolish and lucky. You do still have to win after all. But the Librarian won't twist you apart if you beat him. The only trouble is convincing yourself of that. I don't think Magrat is built right for this challenge.
--@theensorceler-blog
I'm in two minds about this one. Either the Librarian would win outright bcause Magrat can't get mad enough to use her strengths, or he would win by simply not being present for the fight (per the rules, running away successfully constitutes a win, and I don't think Magrat can outrun an orangutan). Someone would say, "hey, you gotta fight this witch -indicates Magrat-, my...ape", and he'd say, "ook," and then shuffle off to eat bananas and read under his desk because who the fuck has time to fight witches when there are bananas and books, right?
--@theeldritchbat
And that's how this has to go. The Librarian has to win because it's funnier if Magrat gets her ass kicked by an orangutan. Like I love her but it would be so funny.
--@omicheese
Keep it up everybody, this is super fun so far! =D

I think the new-gavial would have been better if they didn't put "violence" as the focus of her gameplay. Like, take a page from the 5* alternate operator (Hibiscus, Kroos, Lava), and make a version of Gavial who became an even greater doctor and field medic, with her own unique and unorthodox approach to healing.
Like, she could have been in the same class as Hibiscus the purifier, but with some form of Tomimi skills that make her deal physical damages. To show she's still determined to be a doctor of medicine, but she's still fine with breaking necks if needs be.
Hell, if Hypergryph really wanted her to be melee, a healing defender would have been a more interesting take.
But instead it's a simple "Gavial is strong and beat up a lot of people, so let's make her a centurion! Let's forget about her desire to be a doctor before a fighter."
Pretty much. She's got the EXACT same problem as Nearl The Radiant Knight where she is so removed from her context because "(Character) is (Former Trait) so she HAS to be (Former Trait)" and that's how you get Nearl whose design, characterization and kit makes me believe she's an outright different character from the actual Defender Nearl i know and love.
makes no sense

So having actually properly finished the event story wise...
Yeah we have actually genuinely good natured actors trying to do right by the world at large, The Pope is actually trying to live up to the ideals of his title and position, the Church at least at the top end seem to actually be like...Mostly actually decent folks?
The Church, or at least the top levels, are actually trying to live up to the ideals and stated goals of their religion? No “OH BUT I SHALL BECOME A GOD AND USHER IN A NEW ERA WITH THE LORDS BLESSING” but “oh yeah, hey we should actually try to improve the world somewhat and Hey I happen to be in a position of power and i’m trying to actually get shit done?”
like...Ok, I can’t recall who it was, THINK it was @fefeman who mentioned that Laterano is super sugar filled, and absolutely it has tremendous amounts of uh...Well, Things are Fine, Don’t Ask Questions, It’s All Cool. Like there’s a degree of very very obvious problems going on in Laterano (The Executors aren’t like...Not a Thing you have if everything is fine and on the up and up right?)
And that’s an important detail, i think though it doesn’t get quite as much attention as it could in part because it’s just one part of the whole thing and as an individual metaphor it could probably get out of hand if they leaned into it but, because there’s a bit where they’re talking about some desserts at the Cold Buffet, and of the people in the room, Two Outright Hate the Questionable Cactus...Whatever the hell they are. Puffs? Some kind of desert.
Those are Mostima and Villiv, who both just find the things...Blech. Nasty. Awful. Gun-Knight SomethingSomething Absolutely loves them, and from what we’ve seen of the gun knights they seem arguably the most like...Deeply into the faith?
And then There’s Yvangelista who all but says “ok, they’re actually whack, but they’ve got some neat qualities” which is....A Weird Statement? Like He’s Constantly eating sweets, offering em to folks, which in the metaphor is very much trying to sell the sweetness and shell of laterano and all that, but like at the same time, aside from whatever weirdness is going on with Sankta/Sarkaz unions and the pretty open implications that Cecilia might well be some kind of Saint Figure (!?!?!?!?!?) the guy I feel just...Has been eminently Reasonable?
I said it before, but I feel like either i’ve missed something and have gotten suckered, but I honestly don’t feel like we’ve got the typical suite of villains pulling strings and fucking things up (or simply exposing the systems inherent flaws and monstrous nature) so much as...We’ve got folks who are trying to do good, who know things are Complicated and are going “ok, So...What can we do to actually help things in general?” and to take that bit from near the end that mentions his speech being in the history books, maybe he was on the level?
like
???????????????????????????????????????????
It’s not like they don’t make a very big point about how Laterano’s church isn’t the big all encompassing friendly friend friend pal that it’s extended feelers out there and branches of church have engaged with. Ando seemed to imply they hot erased a town, or let it get deleted at least. The Liberi Sankta Relationship seems to actually be rocky to listen to Patia talk about, even if it’s not as immediately obvious to everyone involved. The Pathfinders are very much not vibing with the Main Church, and have some genuine beef but like...
Even So!
People in power trying to do right? Seemingly more or less on the up and up by the by?
I don’t THINK i’m missing anything but at the same time, I feel like i must be?
