I have been in a love/hate relationship with this video for 2 years, making sure it was perfect, but I'm so happy and proud of how it turned out. This is my first Nirvana In Fire video, and hopefully, I will be making more.

Happy Halloween (or probably day after halloween). Have some candy!

Trick or treating with only Lin Chen-dage is not the same, but Fei Liu goes anyway. It is still good. Many people are kind to him, and he fills his bucket with candy twice over. Lin Chen-dage complains, but he carries the extra all the same.

When they go home, Lin Chen-dage shows him a message from Tingsheng. He has a costume and a bucket of his own, and Water Buffalo is with him. They are far away. Maybe next year they will be together, and Fei Liu and Tingsheng can go trick or treating together. He looks at Lin Chen, who makes a face. Sometimes Lin Chen-dage looks very tired, but only in his eyes. He nods though, and Fei Liu knows that he will see Tingsheng very soon.

He is allowed two pieces of candy before bed, and he steals four more. He does not need to see to eat them, but he brings them to the window anyway. The moon is very bright. He unwraps the first piece.

There is a tap on the window, very soft. Fei Liu slides the glass back. He does not see anyone. He does not need to see to know.

"Trick or treat?" he whispers.

The first snowflakes of the year are starting to fall. It is cold and the moon is so bright.

When Fei Liu looks down, his candy is gone. In its place is a single orange.

Mei Changsu’s Unrivaled Anti-Doctor Tactic

Mei Changsu wants to leave and his doctor won’t let him. He uses “Fly, Fei Liu, Fly!” and it’s super effective.

When my discord did our nif group watch last year, we watched this scene 4-5 times before moving on. It is one of my favorites and so delightful. 

But since we can’t spell nif without adding a k and a e: Fei Liu just wants to make his Su-gege happy, but do you think he realizes he’s helping kill the man sooner?

I know Fei Liu ends up going back to Lanya Hall with Lin Chen (and the tea scene is the only ending I will canonically accept, okay, but-), but what if he goes back to the Jiangzuo Alliance, and in the jianghu he meets Jingrui? 

And Fei Liu remembers how much Su-gege wanted to protect Jingrui, so he starts to just stubbornly shadow him and protect him, even though Jingrui can clearly protect himself just fine while Fei Liu’s own self-preservation instincts are actually questionable. 

And Jingrui in turn knows how Su-xiong treated Fei Liu like a younger brother or son, so he takes it upon himself to protect Fei Liu in turn, because it’s clear Fei Liu won’t return to Li Gang or anyone else in the Alliance - or that weird, brilliant jianghu doctor Lin Chen that stuck to Su-xiong like a shadow in those final months. 

So they just have this weird, brotherly relationship where they both look out for each other and think they’re the one doing the caretaking, and in the process they manage to both grieve for Su-xiong/Su-gege while Jingrui works through his deeper issues about Su-xiong (who he now knows is Lin Shu-dage) - which he may unfairly shout at Fei Liu about at one point because, to Fei Liu, Su-gege is Su-gege and can do no wrong - and Fei Liu struggles to understand who he is without Su-gege, where he comes from, and why, exactly, he’s latched onto Jingrui as his new Person to Protect. 

And then Yujin shows up. And Yujin somehow becomes the mature one of the three, because the show graced him with a beautiful coming-of-age arc that wasn’t as tragic as Jingrui’s loss-of-innocence arc. 

So Yujin shoulders Jingrui’s roiling emotions, with deep empathy for Jingrui’s feelings about his three fathers (goddamn Three, who even is he if he cannot claim identity to a single father?), while also not being able to relate to the feelings Jingrui may have towards his mothers and his older brother after...everything. But he’s a very empathetic young man, and Jingrui is his best friend so he’s confident in his ability to support Jingrui through everything. But Fei Liu... 

Yujin struggles with tolerating Fei Liu, being new to the Most Emotionally Mature role and seeing a lot of himself in Fei Liu - but unable to rise above his own immature reactions still, because it’s a Process. 

So he gets it wrong sometimes, but somehow they all still manage. 

And they end up roaming the jianghu together, until Jingrui is ready to face his mother, and Fei Liu feels more like he knows himself without Su-gege, and Yujin needs to return home to see his aging father. 

Then maybe, Fei Liu visits Langya Hall, and Yujin and Jingrui are ready to assume the mantles of head of household society dictates they assume.
