Monday Murals Street Art… The everywhere is a canvas edition

Sometimes social media has its advantages.

I was scrolling thru my Instagram feed when I saw a story on my friend’s profile showing the Anamorphic Illusions by artist Felice Varini. So I did some research and planned a little walk.

Not only did I get to see the amazing showroom of Liaigre furniture which is located in an Hotel Particulier* but the art, that I have loved for so long, in situ was a real treat.

From a viewpoint, the fragments painted in the spaces are assembled into a coherent shape. Out of this viewpoint, the shape will be change, dancing on the spaces, depending on where the visitor spectators are standing.

*(because I got that question already 😉) An Hotel Particulier is a grand townhouse, comparable to the British townhouse or mansion. Whereas an ordinary maison (house) was built as part of a row, sharing party walls with the houses on either side and directly fronting on a street, an hôtel particulier was often free-standing and, by the 18th century, would always be located entre cour et jardin – between the cour d’honneur (an entrance court) and the garden behind. There are hôtels particuliers in many large cities in France.

Persistance d'anamorphose à Carcassonne

Roger Mansuy m’a envoyé cette photo assez incroyable : C’est une impression assez irréelle que me procure cette photo : il s’agit là des traces laissées par une oeuvre de Felice Varini en 2018 sur les murs de la cité, faite de larges cercles jaunes pour célébrer les vingt ans de son classement à l’Unesco. Monday Murals Street Art - Trois œuvres, trois couleurs, trois mille points de vue

Tucked on the side of the rue Edouard-VII, on the square of the same name one can find three Anamorphic Illusions from Felice Varini.

Commissioned by Société Foncière Lyonnaise the three pieces are called Cinq ellipses ouvertes - Double trapèze pour quatre triangles - Quatre triangles pour deux fenêtres
