My handsome Phantom 🖤
Rescued in February with life-threatening injuries, I adopted him three months ago and he's settled in so well. He has FIV and a heart murmur but he's currently a very healthy gummy shark!
He loves nothing more than sunning himself in his cat run on a nice day, snuggling with his fur-siblings, and yelling at me for treats the second I come home 🩷

ATTENTION EVERYONE
Whether you follow me for art, NATM, or whatever!
We all here know @bmoshh for their lovely comics, artwork, and contributions to the NATM fandom.
Recently their cat Zuko was diagnosed with FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus) which makes him struggle to stay healthy. The lil’ guy is only 3 years old but does leaps and bounds in helping sweet Bmo live their life!
I will be donating as well but PLEASE donate to help Zuko out. Without help for his kidneys he will die!
This is a legitimate donation and is NOT a scam. You can even see so by visiting Bmo’s tumblr page and see they are a real person devoted to their pet and also their art.
DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO HELP! Anything counts!

Papa from Rescue and Rehome in Quail Valley, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Click here for a video of Papa!
Click here for a link to Rescue and Rehome's main website.
Look at that cute face! Papa was rescued as a neighborhood stray. He appears to be a Russian Blue Mix with his short dense coat with white. He has green eyes and the cutest face! He is a big boy weighing approximately 16+ pounds and his estimated date of birth is 3/13/10. He has had a vet exam and blood work reveals he is diabetic and needs insulin injections twice a day/every 12 hours. He also tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), also known as Feline AIDS. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives - in quality - in duration - and in happiness. FIV+ cats might be considered by some to be 'special needs' cats because, while they are healthy and live quite normal lives, they have tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). We now know that FIV is basically a virus whose presence has the potential to cause some weakening of a cats' immune system. It does not seem to have much impact on lifespan. We now know that this is a cat-only virus and cannot be passed to humans or to other species of animals. We have also learned that FIV does not pass to other cats through casual friendly contact. Experience, studies and the medical research community have, for numerous years now, watched positive cats live peacefully together with non-positive cats without transference. It takes a seriously deep bite wound or blood transfusion from an FIV+ cat to infect another so a typical household where cats live in harmony can blend FIV+ and FIV- cats without worry. It is extremely difficult for FIV+ cats to find their forever homes, so please consider opening your home and heart to Papa. Papa is a sweet, gentle soul, very mellow and seems to get along with everything and everyone! Papa is nonassertive and nonaggressive. He gets along well with other cats. His favorite things are to chill and hang out with you and sunning himself in the enclosed outdoor catio! He has been neutered, vaccinated and dewormed.

Webwish! The Riverclan elder who cares maybe a little too much about the warrior code. While originally a very promising young apprentice of Webpaw, a bite from a scraggly rogue resulted in his health suddenly having a lot of issues, he seemed to get sick constantly, often with fevers, he kept losing weight and not wanting to eat. His coat condition became more ragged and required help grooming pretty often.
While the clan cats had no clue what had happened to him beyond stories of other similar bites from other medicine cats, we are not clan cats and can know that that bite wound carried FIV to Webpaw, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which also resulted in him developing cancer.
After he never seemed to recover, Hopestar gave him his warrior name Webwish, to show off his optimism and how the whole clan was wishing for his recovery and he was made an elder. He fell into a funk about what to do with his life, as he felt like a burden despite all the well wishes. Eventually he turned more to Starclan to cope with it, trying to figure out what his purpose in life was if it wasnt as a warrior. Then all the violence happened with Salmonstar and everything, and Webwish found his purpose.
The warrior code had been thrashed, torn to bits to serve greed and malice, he would remind the cats of Riverclan the purpose and point of the Warrior Code is while teaching how important and great it is and vital for True Clan Life and it should Never Be Questioned. Starclan needed a cat who could remember them fully, who was not busy like a warrior or medicine cat and could thus take time for even the smallest details of their whims and help everyone else follow these whims.
Most cats admittedly find this annoying of him but ever since he found this purpose Webwish seemed more determined then ever and less desiring to just be left to rot, they don't stop him. Though the main reason is because the "Elder's eat first" rule is often used against him as a way to make sure he doesn't starve himself.
When he's not bothering newly made warriors to ensure they keep vigil or poking fun at Twinstar for not having an apprentice, he's become a very beloved storyteller to the kits and apprentices due to his vivid imagination and weird dreams his on and off fevers keep giving him.
While he still has a long way to go about learning the warrior code as an ever evolving thing and not a stagnant force, his determination to bring the clan back to the code and help his clanmates live happier more fulfilled lives has helped with the rebuilding and morale after Salmonstar's reign.
(Also like feel free to simplify his spots if you draw him, starclan knows im certainly not going to be able to keep it consistent)

in a modern au, do you think arianna would have opted for FIV? I saw a pair of famous tiktokers who are lesbians and are about to have their second baby doing that and thought of them
Uh... maybe? I can't see Anna wanting to be pregnant in absolutely any universe, but Ari might like the experience of growing a biological child.
I will say I initially read FIV as feline immunodeficiency virus and was HORRIBLY confused lmao

This dapper fellow is Lord Danbury, a real cat currently up for adoption! (as of 9/2/2023). Details below the cut!
This friendly and handsome fellow is only 2 years old and was rescued from life on the streets where he contracted FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and asthma. Cats with FIV have an impaired immune system and must be kept indoors for their safety. Cats with FIV can live full and happy lives with proper precautions - be sure to do some research before adopting!
Both of these conditions mean he cannot be brought to adoption events, and has been struggling to find a home.
If you are interested in adopting this fellow and live in the Sacramento, CA area, check out his petfinder listing below!

Stray cat update!
We put names into a hat and picked one, so! Say hello to Cheeto! It’s with a heavy heart that I tell you all we’re not able to keep him. We got him into the vet this morning and had them do some tests to check his health.
He’s a pretty old guy - they’re estimating about ten years, and unfortunately he’s FIV positive. For those of you who don’t know, FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, a disease which attacks the immune system and makes them more susceptible to infection.
It’s also incredibly contagious, and while it’s spread through direct contact (bites, scratches) we can’t be sure that the cats Won’t Ever Fight.
Of course, we’re not going to turn him out because of this. We’re going to keep him separated from the other cats for the time being, and we’ll be working through a couple of local animal rescues to try and find him a home with other FIV cats.
But until that happens, we’re going to keep him warm and safe in our home.

Sad news.
Papyrus had to be put to sleep today.
Please respect my mourning process as an atheist and don’t tell me anything about the Rainbow Bridge or him being in a better place etc. If that makes you feel better, I understand, but please keep these things to yourself as they will make me feel worse.
He had been lethargic for the last couple of days. This morning I noticed his urine was an orange colour, and the vets took him right in. They noticed as well that he was very jaundiced.
He was diagnosed with feline immunodeficiency virus, and he was crashing from it. The kindest thing to do was to euthanize him.
It’s unlikely he spread it to Urist, as FIV, much like human AIDS, is not spread through casual contact such as sharing food bowls or litterboxes. It’s mostly spread by deep bite wounds, and Papyrus was such a gentleman with Urist - none of that occurred between them.
I’m pretty crushed, but I’m also very glad that I could give that sweet little guy a good last few weeks of his life. He wasn’t eaten by a coyote, or run over, or left to suffer in the heat wave, or to die a slow death from a secondary infection. He went peacefully in my arms, cuddling as he loved to do.
You were a good boy, Papy, and I loved you very much.

Keep Cats Indoors!
Lots of us already know the health benefits of keeping cats indoors, but I’m here to provide more extensive information and numbers on indoor cats vs outdoor cats, and provide some education on the topic.
Many people still believe that keeping outdoor cats is beneficial to their “instincts”, such as their hunting and exercise behaviors, and other enriching activities such as climbing and exploring. However, it is very important to note that all these activities can be provided indoors, if you properly care for your cat and play with them.
DISEASES AND PARASITES
It should be common knowledge that being outside comes with the risk of diseases and other sicknesses. A couple common diseases associated with pet cats are feline leukemia virus (FeLV), feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), bartonellosis, which can rarely transmit to humans, and rabies. Diseases can vary both regionally and seasonally, and immunized cats pose a lesser risk, but it is always a danger to look out for.
HIGHER RISK OF DEATH
Being outdoors means your cat is exposed to every dangerous element it comes in contact with. Cats are naturally curious, which means they are susceptible to coming in contact with dangerous substances. There are MANY substances outdoors that can poison and quickly kill your cat. Here is a short list of things your cat can get into that will cause sickness or death.
Medications, houseplants or flowers (Lilies, chrysanthemum, azaleas and rhododendrons) Anti-freeze, Insecticides, Rodent poison, Cleaning products, and food such as alcohol, coffee, teas, onions, and candies. As nasty as it sounds, there are even some people who intentionally poison cats and it DOES HAPPEN.
Any of these can be outdoors, and an unsupervised cat can easily gain access to them. Keeping your cat indoors keeps them safe from the high likelihood of poisoning.
The road is a huge factor to consider when you have an outdoor cat. An estimated 26 million cats are killed by cars on the road annually. This one is even more simple than poisonings: keeping your cat indoors will simply prevent this death from happening.
Wildlife plays a big role in cat deaths. They have many natural predators such as coyotes (it has been suggested that coyotes rely on pets, including cats, as a food source, especially during the winter and spring when their regular prey may be inactive or hibernating). Dogs and other cats also pose a huge threat to outdoor cats, many injuries from bites, claws or fights, resulting in infection and sometimes death.
The answer is clear when you realize that the average lifespan of an indoor cat ranges from 10 to 20 years, whereas cats who go outdoors typically live only 2 to 5 years.
Thanks for checking out the post. I’ll have more information on my blog and later try to include tips on how to properly enrich your indoor cat, and fun activities you can do together.

Pawnee from The Rescue House in Encinitas, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Click here for a link to The Rescue House's main website.
*** Pawnee is in a foster home. *** Black & white bicolor, short hair, neutered male, born approx. 9/11/20, #18651 Other cats: needs to be only cat Dogs: unknown Children: likely okay w/gentle kids Pawnee was found as a very small kitten in Iran by some cat-loving rescuers, and though he was safe and loved in his rotating foster homes, a permanent home just wasn't presenting itself. When there was an opportunity for him to come to the USA on a flight with some other animal rescues, Pawnee was on board, and local connections in our area then brought him into the Rescue House family. Pawnee is an adorable guy with a broad distinguished face and a cute little nose smudge. This friendly fellow is happy to meet new people and in his apartment-style foster home he would even run to the screen door to say hello to the neighbors as they came home from work! Pawnee spends a lot of his time lounging in arm's reach for petting, watching the birds on Kitty TV, or cuddling with his foster parent, though he will disappear when he feels the need for a hard-core nap-Pawnee prefers cozy hidden nooks for those. As he settles into a new place, he gets more playful, and enjoys long wand-type toys the most. He is very food-motivated, and it is at those times that Pawnee gets vocal: all previous meals conveniently forgotten, he focuses on the now... don't you know he's starving?! Once breakfast or dinner is sorted out, Pawnee is back to cuddling... he will make his forever family so very happy! Pawnee needs to be your solo kitty love. We don't know his thoughts on dogs though suspect he may be okay with less-energetic ones if given a proper introduction. While we have not observed Pawnee with children, his patient people-loving nature suggests he will welcome gentle love and care from all ages. Pawnee has traveled a long way to find his forever home, and he is hoping it is with YOU! While healthy, Pawnee has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). This is a type of virus that typically causes some weakening of a cat's immune system. It is a cat-only virus and cannot be spread through casual friendly contact between cats. FIV+ cats can and do live quite normal lives in quality, duration, and happiness. If a cat has previously been vaccinated for FIV, the kitty will test positive even if the virus is not present. A good informative website is FIVCats.com.

oliver has simply faceplanted after eating some of his dinner, i think the exam and the vaccines (rabies which is self-explanatory and fvrcp aka the feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus, and feline panleukopenia vaccine) and the blood draw (to test for feline immunodeficiency virus/FIV and feline leukemia virus/FeLV) followed by me forcing two different pills (drontal for any possible tapeworms and capstar to kill all the adult fleas on him since i have a flea infestation in my house that we'll be dealing with either this weekend or the next) down his throat and then having a psycho barking dog in the cage under him for 3/4 of the day EXHAUSTED my poor wittle baby boy 🥺 💗
we're home now and he's relaxing while i play genshin for a short while, hopefully he'll feel a bit better in the morning 👍🏻 i'm not worried at all, i took am exhausted and bleh after getting vaccines so 🤷🏼‍♀️
