Birds really use sound in the craziest ways.
King penguin chicks can hear a quarter of a second of their parents' call and know it is them. While surrounded by hundreds of other screaming birds.
Tumblr media
White bellbirds produce a call that hits 125.4 decibels — the same volume as a whole-ass rock concert.
Tumblr media
Common nightingales have between 150 and 200 distinct song types. Mostly used for seduction (who's surprised tbh?)
Tumblr media
Parts of male zebra finch brains are 3-6 times larger than females to accommodate the complexity of their songs.
Tumblr media
The cassowary head casque might have evolved primarily to act as a microphone to broadcast calls so low, us humans can't hear them. They even tilt their head down and forward to make the broadcast more effective.
Tumblr media
Superb lyrebirds are probably the best mimics on Earth, and tailor their courtship dances to particular sounds they've "collected." They literally have a dance for the "song" of a chainsaw.
Tumblr media
Truly bonkers shit these birds be doing with sound.

Animal of the Day!
Albert’s Lyrebird (Menura alberti)
Tumblr media
Conservation Status- Least Concern
Habitat- Southeastern Australia
Size (Weight/Length)- 900 g; 90 cm; 80 cm wingspan
Diet- Insects; Worms
Cool Facts- While the Albert’s lyrebird lacks the lyre tail of their superb cousins, their voices can’t be beat. These songbirds have the smallest range of any continental Australian bird with only 3,500 individuals remaining. Albert’s lyrebirds can mimic many species of other birds, using their calls to create a mixtape mating call. The calls are placed into a specific order that groups of male lyrebirds memorize, creating the music fad for the season that is used to entrance females with sick beats. Female Albert’s lyrebirds build enclosed nests with a small entrance to lay a single egg. As with many Australian birds, the Albert’s lyrebird is threatened by invasive species and poaching for feathers.
Rating- 13/10 (DJ’s of the forest.)

If it wasn't a joke and you really wanted an infodump, then here you go. This does not apply to hypnosis, but it is interesting nonetheless:
There is a beautiful bird with a long tail in Australia - the lyrebird. The most amazing thing about them is that they parody sounds much better than parrots. The accuracy of their onomatopoeia reaches 80 percent! They can even imitate the singing of other birds, which can be confusing. Crying babies, a chainsaw or a ringtone - they will torment us with any sounds! The videos with them are funny. Usually, as expected, males sing more often than females, especially during the breeding season. The mating song of males is a mixture of their own singing and the singing of other birds. And the females parody the sounds of predators in order to protect the nest! Amazing! It's awesome! Unfortunately, due to forest fires in 2020, some species of this bird are now at risk of extinction. Okay, I'll give you a hypnotic supplement: the lyrebird imitates the singing of sirens.
-HypnoticBird
I never joke about infodumping. This is so interesting!!
Also the whole bird thing feels very on brand for you considering your name aha
Pocketing this idea for future writing if you don’t mind :D

BRACKET A
Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae)
These birds are the experts of mimicry. They’ll mimic people talking, chainsaws, kookaburras, toy laser guns, car alarms, cameras, and the females of the species think that’s super hot. They’re one of the world’s largest songbirds. At the Australia zoo, they’re allowed to run around and love talking to and dancing at visitors.
VERSUS
Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae)
They’re ratites and won a war against the human population of Australia. What more do you want.

Common Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
Tumblr media
"They look like oil spills in a good way"
We're just gonna skim right passed these guys being invasive species (they're found on every continent!) because they do have a home range and they are quite neat little creatures.
They're really good mimics! While not as noted as the Lyrebird or Mockingbird, the whole family of Sturnidae often make good mimics, and Common Starlings will often pick up other bird sounds to weave into their own song at times. I worked at one job where one mimicked a Gray Catbird so well the store employees thought that's what I was called in to catch rather than a starling.
These birds used to be referred to as "Stare", with "starling" only referring to the juveniles of the species. Some time in the 16th century :stare" had been replaced with "starling" to refer to all ages.
These birds are primarily insectivorous and eat a large variety of insects across their range, including species that are often pests to humans and crops. They will, however, readily eat grains, seeds, and fruits as well, and will raid crops such as grapes or cherries.
Unpaired males find a suitable cavity and begin to build nests in order to attract single females, often decorating the nest with ornaments such as flowers and fresh green material, which the female later disassembles upon accepting him as a mate. The amount of green material is not important, as long as some is present, but the presence of herbs in the decorative material appears to be significant in attracting a mate. The scent of plants such as yarrow acts as an olfactory attractant to females.

~Griffis Supspecies Height Comparison + Info~ ------------------------------------ Just doing this for fun~ I made this so I can use this to design more griffins oc if I want to save time. Also explaining the differences. Not just for these that I show here, also included for other bird species. Of course, I can't filled all in here. Just try and use common senses, if you can.
There's a few things that I explained based in my universe world, so, just want to make that clear.
If the pic is kinda hard to see here, you can view the full and close up image on DA: https://www.deviantart.com/greenmaneheart/art/Griffis-Supspecies-Height-Comparison-Info-in-des-978901373
I will explain more details of what features they had. have fun reading~ ------------------------------------
Very small - HUMMINGBIRD
This also included other small bird species such as kingfisher, kookaburra, cockatiel, parakeet, parrotlet.
They have a certain natural ability based on what bird species they are; kingfisher griffins can catch fish. Kookaburra griffins can make loud and chaotic cry. And more.
Their small size makes it easy for them to fly swiftly or hide in small spaces. ------------------------------------
Medium small - OWL
This included all types of owl species out there.
They can fly without making a slightest sound of their wings flapping while flying.
Their common traits are usually quiet, watchful, sly and deep-thinkers. They seem more active hunting during night time, making them nocturnal creatures.
Owl griffins are considered as the calmest griffin compared to other subspecies griffins.
They are not usually aggressive and only do so when it's necessary like defending their home.
Despite also being considered as a predatory kind, they're pretty calm. ------------------------------------
Medium - MACAW
This included all types of macaw and medium-sized parrots species such as cockatoo, African grey parrot, scarlet macaw, black palm cockatoo and more.
Their habitats are usually in the jungle or rainforest.
Some have the ability to mimic sounds. Their special beak is for macaws, able to crack open any hard nuts easily, without any tools.
Their common traits can come in pretty friendly, intelligent, crafty and creative. They're considered as the smartest and creative subspecies of griffin. ------------------------------------
Large - NORMAL GRIFFIN
A common griffin, half eagle, half lion. However, this also included all types of eagle species, including hawk and falcons. Usually predatory birds.
This type of griffin has the biggest wingspan of all other griffins. A strong flier and the fastest flier than all other griffins.
They are also considered the strongest griffin subspecies.
They are also common subspecies and the most populated compare to other subspecies griffins.
Most of these griffins are very well known to hunt any certain food or animal easily. ------------------------------------
Medium Large - PEAFOWL
Male peacock griffins are usually a bit bigger than female peahen griffins.
However, this size can come from other types of bird such as Lyrebirds and birds of paradise.
Usually the royals are a bit bigger compared to it's average size.
Peafowl griffins are considered as the most beautiful creatures in Griffonia due to their unique pattern and colorful feathers.
Peacock griffin can fly but not as fast as other griffins. Peahen griffin cannot fly properly and can only glide.
Certain peafowl families will wear a certain gem on their forehead to easily identify their close relatives and family. This also to show off their beauty and high quality of themselves.
This has been going for many generations and now considered as their tradition.
Most peafowl are from the royal family. They live in a high ground place called The Proud Tree Kingdom.
They're usually very graceful, elegant, and well mannered. They always try to maintain their appearance to stay clean and beautiful to show that they are more superior than other griffins. ------------------------------------
Very tall and large - OSTRICH
Ostrich griffins are considered as the largest griffin subspecies.
They are also one of the griffins that cannot fly.
Females can have pale, pastel, whitish or brown color feathers, while males have dark coloring feathers.
However, as a normal ostrich would have, they're able to run fast compared to other griffins. Their highest speed limit is almost the same speed as the normal griffin's flying speed.
Most ostrich griffins participated in a racing sport game, and so were considered as professional racers.
These griffins can usually be found in many populations living somewhere in the desert western land, which is where the racing stadium for ostriches is located.

Music Is Everywhere
Music and nature are intertwined! The first thing that comes to my mind is a device called PlantWave. An artist named Joe Patitucci created it and it’s the coolest thing ever. The way it works is it converts plant biorythms into music (Patitucci 2021). The flow of water through the plant is detected with sensors which then graph these vibrations and variations and convert it into a pitch (Patitucci 2021). The pitch is then run through instruments designed by PlantWave and the final product is a continuous melody! Below I’ve linked a video to learn more about it (Patitucci 2021).
youtube
Continuing on, it’s evident that music can be found everywhere in nature. There are so many ways to look at it. I mean, we can seek out music on a small like by looking at the biorythms. We can also think more “big picture” and go sit in a forest and listen to the wind blow through the treetops. Bird calls are another interesting way to interpret music.
Let’s take a lyrebird for example. To attract a female, a male lyrebird must since the most complex song they can manage (Person 2022). This includes copying not only the song of other male lyrebirds around them, but also all other surrounding noises (Person 2022). And the crazy thing is…this includes anthropogenic sounds! Chainsaws from nearby construction sites and camera shutters have both been copied by male lyrebirds (Person 2022).
youtube
It’s very cool that what we perceive as boring sounds can be seen as music by lyrebirds. I mean, who would’ve thought that mimicking a chainsaw would be seen as beautiful by female lyrebirds?! It goes to show that music and beauty is so subjective. Not only that, but music is intertwined with nature as well as the world around us in its entirety!
Some music that takes me back to a natural landscape is, shockingly, Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles. Not really the folksy, outdoorsy song you were expecting, right? Two summer ago, my friends took me on my first ever back country camping trip. After 3 days of mosquitos and beautiful sunsets, we took a multihour trek back to the car. Once we were in the car, we had to open all the windows because we smelled like sweat and dirt. We stuck our heads out the windows and out the music on high, and the song I remember playing was Watermelon Sugar.
Tumblr media
I’m no singer by any means, but I somehow managed to hit that high note in the chorus and everybody in the car complimented me on it! I was never able to hit that note again, but the memory stuck with me to this day.
