what I really want for Lila post-ACoL is that she becomes a player on the international stage fully in her own right. Not politically, perhaps, but certainly in international waters. Sure, she’s...in a relationship with the brother of the King of Arnes that neither of them will try to define for years, to themselves much less anyone else. And she probably has a proper Arnesian privateer’s license, too. 

But she’s more of a pirate than Alucard ever was, whatever colors she flies (usually her own.) She sails every sea in the world, with an eye for the worst pirates as targets but not always picky, if a merchant or even navy ship looks interesting. It’s good to keep them humble, at least. At any given time, she is a hero of two empires and wanted dead or alive in a third, and it changes regularly. (The year or so that she is formally wanted for treason in Arnes, Kell stays in London and even Rhy cannot make him smile.)

There are places, mostly not on maps found on land, where the name “Bard” will get you a lot farther than “Maresh”, particular if you want to reach your destination without a knife in your gut. Lila Bard can summon or dismiss a hurricane at sea, they say. Lila Bard has fought a sea serpent (Lila Bard is a sea serpent, turned human, they say. Lila Bard is a story to scare new deckhands. Lila Bard is the Sarows.) A Conjuring of Light, the third and final installment of Shades of Magic trilogy by V. E. Schwab

Inhale. Exhale. Saints. Where do I start?

I think this is such a perfect and beautiful conclusion to this awesome trilogy. The loose ends were well tied and resolved, wrapping up the story splendidly, ending it with subtleness and sentiments. A Conjuring of Light gave us more blood, more black magic, betrayals, politic conflicts, familial discords and more blood. Blood everywhere.

Some many things happened in this book. The villain, the shadow king, I must say, felt so scary and evil and powerful. Shadow of darkness was casted across London, poison of evilness was spread among the people, color of life and magic was stolen from the city and the shadow king just throwing in more and more chaos to the people and city. For a moment, I was really worried that the shadow king would be undefeatable and the evil magic would actually win over the good. I was foolish, I know.

Adding Okja to the story definitely shot up the intensity and tension of the story. I liked how we got to see layers of Okja’s character being affected and influenced by corruption, darkness and hunger for power through Nasi’s point of view, which was brilliant. The flashbacks on Holland’s tragic memories and suffers was sad to read, showing his true self under those layers of pretense and self-protection and how those circumstances made him into the person he was. I actually sympathized him and I thought the ending for Holland was really beautiful, he deserved peace and calm after years of bloodshed.

Reading Lila throughout the series was like riding a roller coaster. Lila had contributed so much of excitement, intenseness, wildness, eagerness and more to the series, which my poor heart couldn’t keep up with it. How can I not like her. I had to agree with what Kell said, “Lila Bard was a force to be reckoned with. Whether her hands were filled with knives or fire, her voice low and coaxing or lined with steel, she seemed to hold the world in her hands. Maybe she did.” And I think she did too. She was fierce, fearless, powerful and terrifying. Spoiler alert. She freaking summoned the river Isle into the shadow palace and burned the dark soul of the shadow king! She’s the real winner here.

Kell and Rhy would be my favorite brother pair. They loved and cared for each other, life and soul entwining with each other, willing to die for each other. Every single time Rhy holding himself back from asking Kell to stay, restraining himself for needing Kell by his side, forbidding himself for crying out for his brother, my heart broke. And every single time Kell tried to shield Rhy from danger, rushing to Rhy whenever there’s pain, protecting Rhy from more heart breaks, my heart swelled with warmth. I adored their brotherhood so much.

I must say I love how the romance being written and laid out in this book. It was wonderful and beautiful yet not overpowering, just the right amount of it. I shipped Kell and Lila real hard. I just loved seeing them together. Rhy and Alucard had this adorable and charming yet sensual relationship. Ahhh. My feels.

Alucard stood in the doorway, soaking wet, as if he’d just been dumped in the sea, or the sea had been dumped over him. “Stop fucking with the ship.”

I jumped off my chair and laughed so hard at this.

When Lila moved, Holland felt her path. When Holland feinted, Kell knew where to strike. They were blurs of motion, shards of light dancing around a coil of darkness. And they were winning.

My heart couldn’t contain the excitement, the anxiety, the action, the magic. My eyes were reading along the words as fast as I can, my heart was racing fast and wild.

Again, spoiler alert. I thought Maxim’s strategy or whatever he was trying to do was foolish and illogical. I did not understand his intention behind his plan. The ward towards the palace was still holding strong, Master Tieren’s spell was working just fine, the Antaris would be back with the Inheritor soon. Why would he throw himself to the shadow king when he knew the odds were against him? Oh and would we get to know about that dangerous favor Lila promised to Maris of Ferase Stras? I was expecting this favor to deliver another blow or add some shocking twist to the story.
