No one gets nemesis and hate-based relationships like V. E. Schwab. Nobody.

It's about the intimacy. It's about the knowing one another even if you don't like one another. It's about how respect doesn't necessarily soften into affection or friendliness. Or conversely, how the deeper the friendship, the more twisted the hate once it's corrupted. It's about your reflection being the most like you but also your polar opposite. It's about having someone who fits the negative space in your life like you fit theirs.

ve schwab's books are absolutely phenomenal, in every possible sense. the beautiful, brilliant existentialism and wonderfully unique premise of “the invisible life of addie larue.” the incredible world and simply fantastic adventure of “a darker shade of magic.” the moral greyness and bloody, tempting darkness of “vicious.” the haunting story and gorgeous, immersive setting of “gallant.” the gory battles and disturbing imagery of “this savage song.” i adore her work so, so deeply. if you haven't read her books, you absolutely must.

I was so excited to reach Kell’s chapters in Fragile Threads because I just assumed — like a naive and ignorant fool — that he’d be HAPPY. Instead he’s literally in fetal position on the floor. Give my boy a break, Victoria, please😭 he’s so sad and miserable and needs a hug.
