No one gets nemesis and hate-based relationships like V. E. Schwab. Nobody.
It's about the intimacy. It's about the knowing one another even if you don't like one another. It's about how respect doesn't necessarily soften into affection or friendliness. Or conversely, how the deeper the friendship, the more twisted the hate once it's corrupted. It's about your reflection being the most like you but also your polar opposite. It's about having someone who fits the negative space in your life like you fit theirs.

ve schwab's books are absolutely phenomenal, in every possible sense. the beautiful, brilliant existentialism and wonderfully unique premise of “the invisible life of addie larue.” the incredible world and simply fantastic adventure of “a darker shade of magic.” the moral greyness and bloody, tempting darkness of “vicious.” the haunting story and gorgeous, immersive setting of “gallant.” the gory battles and disturbing imagery of “this savage song.” i adore her work so, so deeply. if you haven't read her books, you absolutely must.

And when she looks up, her gaze always goes to the edge of town.
"A dreamer, " scorns her mother.
"A dreamer, " mourns her father.
"A dreamer, " warns Estele.
Still, it does not seem such a bad word.
Until she wakes up.

a book about the fall of black london following a young magician (or even an antari) who is forced to watch helplessly as their world is quickly consumed by magic and the doors sealed shut around them, with the pages getting darker and darker in colour until they're totally black like this and the pov fades from magician to simply magic

I was so excited to reach Kell’s chapters in Fragile Threads because I just assumed — like a naive and ignorant fool — that he’d be HAPPY. Instead he’s literally in fetal position on the floor. Give my boy a break, Victoria, please😭 he’s so sad and miserable and needs a hug.

things i absolutely ADORED and LOVED while watching First Kill Season One and people need to shut up about how “bad” it was
how the actresses (and actors) literally EMBODIED their characters
it was like watching the book itself being BROUGHT TO LIFE and exactly how I imagined it being after reading the short story
the RED HUE OVERLAY when Juliette was fighting her vampirism
the CASTING could not have been better
the CHEMISTRY BETWEEN ALL THE CHARACTERS
the bright colors and all the AESTHETICALLY PLEASING atmosphere
the BOOK REFERENCES
THE MUSIC SOUNDTRACKS SLAPPED SO HARD
the fill in plots and WORLD BUILDING
Juliette fighting with herself while Calliope was hurt and bleeding. The acting in that scene was absolutely AMAZING
EVERYTHING else in-between

“I mean, most people want to escape. Get out of their heads. Out of their lives. Stories are the easiest way to do that.”
