DAY ONE OF TIT BOOK CLUB
(https://www.tumblr.com/thedoodlecat/760629420839092224/the-iron-trial-book-one-of-magisterium?source=share
<------ if you're confused about this post, i suggest to check this one out)
Ok I’ve decided I’ll stop screaming in my posts.
I trust everyone has done the reading 👀👀👀
Anyway! To spark the discussion, here’s three questions to start with! reblog or reply with the answer
What is the most iconic line in the first five chapters of TIT?
The best character in the first five chapters beside the trio (the one you find the funniest, the most intriguing one)
Rate the first five chapters on a scale from 1-10, either based on how the rest of the book compares or simply in general
Also, apologies, but I will be tagging everyone who interacted with the og post, if you don't wanna participate, just ignore this!

Top 5 famous horses (in shows, movies, irl celebrity horses). Top 5 mikus. Top 5 shows. Top 5 songs.
Top 5 favorite famous horses let's GOOOO!!
1- Beautiful Jim Key Both horse and trainer (Dr. William P. Key) here are absolute legends! His trainer was formerly enslaved and actually fought during the American civil war. He developed medicines, taught himself veterinary skills, and became renowned for being outspoken and influential when it comes to the humane treatment of animals! The horse himself was born very sickly and was nursed to health by Dr. William Key, despite fears that he wouldn't live. He then trained Beautiful Jim Key with a unique focus on compassion and care. And it was found that he was incredibly intelligent! Fast forward, and he had trained Beautiful Jim Key in a variety of things; the alphabet, numbers, and even math- it's suspected that he could even decipher trigonometry problems!! To this day, people still have a hard time arguing that this was a hoax - in any case, it is clear that both the horse and his trainer were brilliant :)
Tumblr media
2- Incitatus Another historical horse! This one could've been a Roman consul... Unlike Beautiful Jim Key, I have my doubts this horse is so well educated.. BUT it is said that he lived in marble stables, was attended by 18 designated servants, and was the favorite horse of Emperor Caligula! The horse is an indisputable icon ~
It's said that Emperor Caligula planned to make him a consul and, though this likely didn't happen, I absolutely love the vision... I have faith he could've created good changes for Rome, were he to have the chance ;)
Tumblr media
3- Spirit I actually don't think I ever managed to finish this movie in my youth... watching animals in distress has never been my favorite pastime, to say the least... ;-; But I am not immune to a story highlighting animal abuse and, surprisingly to a degree, the horrifying abuse done to native peoples in the creation of the states of America. There's something hauntingly beautiful that spoke to me, even from an early age, about the freedom of a familiar landscape unmarred by modern damages. And the mistreatment of nature, animals, and native people at the hands of European invaders stuck with me.
Spirit himself is a fun character- I love the choice to have him be voiced only in internal dialogues, and still have his natural horse sounds aloud! It helps keep the story from falling into the 'human animals' pitfall that I am often frustrated with where animals are presented as humans in another shape, stripping them of their unique vocalizations and thoughts. Let animals be animals! His voiced monologues do a great job of attaching the audience to him and showing his thoughts while staying true to his equine nature! (I will admit the eyebrows are a bit goofy though, despite how handy they are for making his expressions easily readable hsajajsaj)

4- Shadowfax ("Lord of all horses") The legend, the myth!! Shadowfax is a horse that moves with impossible swiftness and actively aids in the efforts of LOTR's main story, particularly as a respected aide and peer to Gandalf the White. I love him, and all the supernatural abilities that he brings :) If I am to speak on him more, a little deeper, I would say that he is an example of the beauty of respected warhorses. There is a reason there aren't any other famous warhorses on here- I struggle to feel positively about horses (and other animals) sent into war. It's not a situation I want humans to get involved in (of course), but animals are separate from such conflicts! Seeing them be used as tools of war and violence displeases me (to say the least).
But, with Shadowfax, (and the rest of horses in LOTR), there is a focus and understanding of their sacrifices as living beings. Shadowfax is supernaturally capable and understands the tasks asked of him, willingly seeing them through. But in this he is special- horses, in general, are not known to do this in this world. They are put to task regardless, as people are without better modes of transportation and are in need of an edge during inescapable war. The deep respect the Rohirrim give to horses is well deserved, and Shadowfax is the 'Lord of all horses' for good reason. He is the ideal of the warhorse- strong, capable, willing. And, supernaturally, with a kind and brave heart that comprehends the importance of what he is asked to do.
Tumblr media
5- Brego/Uraeus I couldn't help but do another LOTR horse- the horse that played Brego (actually named Uraeus)!! Here's another example of LOTR's narrative treating horses as more than just beasts of burden and mere symbols of nobility/strength!! Brego is the horse that Aragorn (played in the movies by Viggo Mortenson) frees after hearing of its trauma in previous battles. The horse finds him later, washed up alone and gravely injured, before helping to carry him safely to Helm's Deep. Viggo Mortenson ended up caring a lot for the horse and, after the filming of the movie, actually bought him! He also purchased a horse to give to Arwen's stunt double, as she had also bonded with the horse she had ridden :') They're genuinely so sweet!!!

Find the Word Tag Game
tagged by: @sleepyowlwrites! my words: evening, sunset, twilight, dusk, mist, gloam, fog tagging: @zmlorenz, @ashen-crest, @drabbleitout, @drippingmoon, @pertinax--loculos, and the guy at the Renaissance Fair that I’ve been in love with since I was thirteen and still haven’t gotten over your words: flight, raise, anger, well, strange
evening (Aurora)—
Thrive led Warren on a winding path leading down the mountain as the sun started to set, the sounds of the reception taking place within the forest never leaving them. Guetry's laugh rang out a few times into the evening, along with traditional R'lisian music and singing sending fauna to the clouds.
Their stroll started off as a quiet moment standing away from the crowd, Warren staring at Thrive in disbelief, love all but gushing out of him, watching as Thrive acknowledged each individual who came up to congratulate them.
Then Thrive navigated the wilderness as if he'd been there his whole life. His robes dragged against the ground, footfalls crunching against twigs and fallen berries and rocks along the way. Stars began to pepper their appearance in the sky, and the forest melted into a grotto fed by the waterfall with a pool of crystalline water, refreshingly damp moss and grass tickling Warren's feet. It seemed like a secret, a little area no one had touched or seen before.
sunset (Destiny)—
They landed on a circle of black dirt beside other shuttles, all of which were layered in chipped paint and splotches of rust as well as dents and what looked to be rushed welding jobs from centuries of age. The sky was grey from the sunset, and a small moon hovered around the silhouette of Morre far in the distance.
Sussa powered down the shuttle and moved to sit in front of Warren, taking the breather from him. "Before we do anything else, I need to warn you that the gravity here is a little heavier than on Earth. You're going to weigh about sixty or seventy pounds more on this planet."
"That's..." Warren searched the sky through the top of the capsule for the right way to phrase his thoughts. "That's about one step forward, two steps back, personally, but sure, it's fine..."
twilight night (Rebirth)—
Thrive reached up to unhook the cloak from around his shoulders. "Actually, I was hoping you could give us your opinion."
"What? Why?"
"You're observant," Osillo explained.
Warren glanced at the expectant faces around the room, but addressed only Thrive. "Why...in the world would you think I'd have an opinion about this one way or another? You're the one who can calculate the best and worst case scenarios in that fat, juicy brain—not me."
Thrive scrunched his nose at that description.
"As you know," Feyth interjected, "night is as scarce as day on this planet. Please come to a decision before sunrise."
dusk (Aurora)—
The shuttle ride down existed largely in silence. Upon landing, Warren opened the door to find they'd landed a couple hundred yards away from a decrepit building, a cluster of wide round towers colored in dusky rose pinks and caramel browns. The path leading up to it was framed with long-dead and dried bushes and thick layers of dust.
"It's beautiful," Warren said.
"It was," Thrive agreed. "At least on the outside."
He and Warren made a head start toward the building when Thrive turned and stopped in his tracks. He aimed a frown of concern over Warren's shoulder.
Sussa had barely made it out of the shuttle before she froze in place, a hand at her mouth, fighting back a strong wave of tears. Guetry had looked away as she'd grabbed his arm and clutched it in a white-knuckle grip.
mist (Aurora)—
In the middle of an odd dream about obhelians building his cabin, a sinking in his stomach swelled to an unignorable level and a fine black mist draped itself over everything in sight. He tried to wake up and, discovering he couldn't, realized what was happening a second before it got so much worse.
Something yanked roughly on his ankle, dragged him down into a void that went on and on and on, sharp metal snaked up his side and pierced a vein in his arm, and he went spinning, crashing into a solid surface. He opened his eyes with a start and expected to see that perhaps he'd fallen out of bed, only to find nothing but stars. He couldn't move his head or any other part of him—just his eyes, which searched for something, anything among the darkness to no avail.
Your nuisance will be extinguished. Fighting is death.
gloam night (Meridian)—
The next morning Warren found he almost couldn't get out of bed.
Thrive had to physically get him sat up, into the bathroom, and at least presentable for Angelina, as he was so bogged down by despondency and anxiety that getting those tasks done alone was impossible. Having spent the entire night with his arms around him, Thrive anticipated this and reacted accordingly, setting forth their ages-old agreed upon method of respectfully assisting and moving him from place to place whenever his depression got bad.
He gave Warren his toothpaste-laden toothbrush and disappeared into the bedroom to pick out some clothes, draping a nice hoodie and a pair of jeans on the bed. The idea was to start the tasks for him rather than do them completely, as starting was the hardest part and he could usually take over from then.
This particular morning proved more difficult than most, as Thrive had to carry him from the bed to the bathroom to even get to that point.
fog (Destiny)—
The dusky waters choked all light from the surface but some of the strange animals glowed to illuminate their own way; two eel-like fish darted by, emitting a neon orange phosphorescence from a multitude of stripes, and behind them something like a spider or a crab did a floating dance, somersaulting into a reef to hide from the pod.
They passed more of the red tube corals, some growing as tall as several hundred feet, grazing the surface of the water from the deep floor. They loomed in the background, terrifying structures shadowed in the fog of the water.
Things grew calm and Warren found his head lolling back onto Sussa's shoulder, soothed by the dark and silence. He looked to Thrive, who looked right back at him, spine straight like a rod on the floor in the opposite corner. He remained unmoving while Attaila manned the control console at the far end of the pod.
