Petition for Square Enix to release the high-quality versions of these renders, please? I really wanted to make some kind of poster for this game, but the only images I could find were so small and low quality, I almost didn't bother. Couldn't resist messing around in Photoshop anyway though and my tinkering spiraled into this, so I'd thought I'd share regardless.

I love Noctis' kingly raiment, so I really wanted to Photoshop him to be wearing it. I know it's technically flipped but I had to match the light source. I also gave Noctis his blue eyes back and cleaned the dirt off his face and clothes.

I really wanted to use Kingsglaive's Luna over the version from the game as I personally think that version pairs particularly well alongside older Noctis, just saying...

Creating Ardyn's magic was tricky and took a lot of experimentation to find the right custom brushes, but I hope the final result is close enough. I also edited one half of Ardyn's face to look corrupt with black dripping from his glowing yellow eye and some 'damaged' looking skin.

To create the floating crystals, I took images of actual diamonds, cut them into small pieces and placed them individually around the image before adding lens flares and glowing effects... which was about as tedious as it sounds.

If anyone knows where I can get my hands on some high-quality versions of these images, please let me know and I'll happily remake these posters! Hope you guys enjoy these regardless of the poor quality and let me know which version is your favorite!

so anyways xv has something to fucking Say about the kings of Lucis but it can't seem to actually form a fucking coherent thought to save its life.

The fact that all the kings we know the name of and see their faces are characterized by physically helping their people, either by sidequesting (Noct) sealing away daemons (Regis) healing (Ardyn) or performing quarantine (Somnus) seems to indicate that this is by design and intentional. This is further exacerbated by the main gameplay loop and draw of the game BEING the sidequests and exploring the open world, exploring every little thing and going around helping people.

So you would fucking think that this ties into how the kings of Lucis are perceived and how the game talks about them, right! You'd think that this would play into the fact that in XV the divine right of kings is worryingly literal with the fact that the Caelum house has access to magic and battle prowess that the normal person simply cannot have!

It's even worse too when you juxtapose Regis against Noctis because Regis is noted as being a rather conservative king. He's playing a losing game for the ~25 years of his rule and 'hiding' behind the New Wall, whereas the entire time you control Noctis as the new King (ch 2 onwards) he's defined by helping his citizens in times of need. He does menial tasks, and also hunting dangerous creatures that normal people can't have a hope of surviving against! A noble endeavor that highlights the themes of the game: ""many have sacrificed for the king now the king must sacrifice for all" right, right?

WRONG. This concept is NEVER FUCKING TOUCHED UPON, and yet it would be the easiest way to make the shitty plot point of Noctis dying make sense! Nevermind the fact that the game gives you very little reason to care about the world itself, let alone Insomnia and simply lacks weight about any of it's worldchanging events.

If they took even an onze of effort to connect the tie of the main gameplay loop to the narrative crux, it could've hit so much harder and better. Instead you just get told “hey Noct has to die to save the planet from the sick darkness lol” Make it his choice, rather than being told this is something he has to do by the questionable wisdom of a god who stole his face. (seriously bahamut looks almost creepily like Noctis take that as you will)

I still cannot believe the devs legit said oh yeah we knew the narrative was crap. hhh gnaws on this piece of media it sucks but i'm fucking obsessed with it.

FFXV Writing Prompt

"Our magic was never supposed to be bound to the Draconian."

That comment from the spirit who haunts this room causes Prince Regis to pause. He has been able to see spirits since he was a kid. This spirit, an old ancestor, has been chained to this room since he was killed in this room. The place where the Crystal used to rest back in the Healer King's time. This spirit hasn't spoken in all the time he's known him, Regis has been keeping him company anyways, until now. (No, he doesn't use this ancient abandoned room to hide from everyone and everything.)

Regis blinks, slowly putting down his sandwich, "What?"

"We weren't supposed to be bound to the Draconian," the spirit repeats softly, body pinned by a trident to a nonexistent Crystal. Trapped to repeat the events of his death over and over again. Regis hates that he can't do anything about it.

The spirit continues, as he flickers to be standing again in the center of the room, defensively and protectively standing in front of someone whose no longer there, "We once belonged to Eos, our patron and progenitor. But the Draconian grew greedy when Eos went to sleep and angry when Ifrit was betrayed."

Another flicker. This time, the spirit in blue with forever sad eyes stands before Regis, chains appearing around him trying to drag him back to where the Crystal once hanged. His death wounds covering his body, slowly dripping to the floor.

"Obsessed with his prophecies, right?" Regis asks.

The spirit nods. "He would sooner see us all die than deviate from the single possible future he Sees, instead of considering the possibilities which is the reality of futures near and far. The exact opposite of what we are supposed to represent and be."

Regis doesn't comment about the the spirit's sudden talkativeness nor his silent anger hidden behind his sorrow filled eyes. For Regis feels the burning indignation, injustice, rage, and grief that has lasted for generations since Oracle betrayed the Healer and Mystic, the need for justice and wish for freedom clawing at the back of his mind even as he hides it behind steel walls as trained to him by his father.

"What do I need to do to stop it?" Is all Regis asks, staring down the spirit.

A smile, cold and angry, slides on the Mystic's face.
