"I... was... loyal. I -" he coughes, choking on his own blood, "I... believed in... you. I was loyal. Now, you stand... before me. Torturing me, marking and claiming... what would have been freely given had you but asked, taking what I had not given... claiming it is to gain my loyalty... and never once considering... that this... was what pushed me to betray you i-... in the Oracle's vision... in the first place." He stares up at his king, pain and betrayal in his eyes. Hurt that his king would be believe the words of a power-hungry God Speaker over his own brother in arms. "I was loyal. I would have done anything for you. Now, you have sealed your fate."

The king stares down at the broken form of his little brother, heart-broken and hurt. "My dear brother," he grasps his cheek gently and the former knight leans against it despite his fear and pain, still seeking the comfort of his big brother, "this is all just one big nightmare. It will be over soon, once the ritual is complete. I will have your loyalty and love focused on me and me alone, even if it means your heart of hearts nurturing great hatred for me. Even if it means permanently losing your trust. I will not lose another to the gods."

I‘ve seen people joke how Barnabas Tharmr and Clive look alike, even like father and son

Personally I think that is because they were set up to be foils?

Like Barnabas, an outsider from birth, lost his family, had to claw his way up into power but on the way fell for Ultima‘s words and became his loyal servant, who would haven given everything to be the Mythos Ultima wanted

And Clive, in a similar situation, who resisted until the very end, even when it was so very difficult
