Cooking Show Championship (My Everlasting Angst) (Tag-Lish ver.)
Note: I am not generalizing the Chinese People here, I am merely expressing my frustration and disappointment to the officiating body of the Tournament. FIBA Asian Championship 2015, hosted by China in Changsha, Hunan Province. (I swear when I heard thag it was gonna be held there, I was so psyched 'cause 1.) That's ZYX's place of origin and 2.) I was really hoping for a great, fair, and all-differences-aside game.) My country's team, had a 9-0 track record for the duration of the games, then the highlight came for the battle for Gold. China vs Philippines. Many speculations have already went around, saying that we have a slim chance of winning, because apparently, the team they played with before said, we need a heck lot of luck if we were to win. So, the game commenced and there, I saw with my two eyes, how the fvck they slithered to gain the upper hand. The delayed e-bus, the "ring fix" which by the way was unnecessary atm, and the FUCKING BIASED REFS that were looming on the Philippine Team, and blindly giving the Chinese Team their Golden Victory. I was so dissappointed with them, how could they even call themselves "officials" if they weren't officiating correctly, I only counted like 3 to 5 correct calls, and a dozen more of questionable ones. That, my friends, had the Filipinos mad. Yes, mad. Because, hello, isn't it obvious? 馃槖 Even the NBA said so. I'm never gonna get over this. I've felt frustrated for them. How Andre Blatche walked out before even the awarding because he said, they didn't deserve it. It was true though. And, don't even get me started on the Spratly Island issue. Though they "jokingly" made it a pawn for the said joke, it still had a mocking undelining on the territory issue between the two nations. I just felt like writting everything I've felt on the said game. I do not generalize, again, the Chinese people for this. Just those who are involved (maybe.) Plus, I wouldn't forget those jerks, giving bad fingers and throwing stuff at the players and coaches. Like, really? You're THAT immature and uncivilized? 馃槖

To FIBA
Yet another open letter.
We no longer aim to write an appeal towards the Chinese. There is no point of doing that. Now we are calling the attention of the well-respected FIBA. I personally did not appreciate what happened at the 2015 FIBA Asia Finals game. In fact, I am really pissed off and very disappointed. Let me tell you. I know that it will be difficult for our national team to win but I still did have the hope that they can. There is always a chance between two teams in a basketball match. You鈥檒l never know. I was also aware that there may be a few bad calls because no game was ever perfect in terms of officiating. The thing is, I didn鈥檛 know that it will turn out this way. I am all good with the Chinese national team. It鈥檚 a game. They may be physical. They got the height and the skills. But why the officiating too?
It was really bad. I never expected it to be that kind of bad. I always try to calm myself, not to blame the referees with everything but I can鈥檛. They do not want us rejecting their calls. They want no complains from us just like the netizens who are tired of hearing these sentiments. Point is, we would never complain if we did not see anything wrong at the first place. Iran won over us when we hosted two years ago and we did not reacted this way. We accepted defeat.
Let鈥檚 travel back to the hours even before the final game started.
MVP discovered that the Chinese delegation is resided in a different hotel, separated from everybody else. But of what I know, all delegates must be under one roof. Surprisingly, they manage not to comply.
Okay. We kept our mouth shut.
Gilas was picked up from the hotel late. Their excuse? They forgot to recharge their so-amazing electric bus. We have a FIBA Asia going here and you forget to recharge their means of transportation? Wow. Efficient.
Okay. Excuse accepted.
On the floor, the Chinese are warming up for the game. And the Philippine national team? Staring blank at the ring and net which is being fixed by the way. That鈥檚 what great timing is.
Okay. Forgiven.
A few good chances might prove and convince me that all these were not just good coincidences.
Among all the trouble, what bothered me the most was the behavior of the fans. They threw not only anything on hand but even their dirty fingers. Towards the Filipino fans. Towards our coaching staff. Towards our bench. Towards the people who are well respected in their homeland. Towards people who must have been respected as visitors.
But then what? Did we see any action from the game officials? NOPE.
They could have at least controlled the crowd if they can鈥檛 correctly take control of the game.
All we ever asked for was a clean and fair game. That too was not given to us. Our men did not travel that far just to be treated that way. They should have treated us better. This is not the sport every Filipino has grown up to. This is not the organization and family we look up to.
I do not wish to revoke or turn back what was already awarded to China. They did work for it as well.. What I want is an explanation. Some kind of response. An assurance that you鈥檒l prove us your credibility for the upcoming tournaments.
We can no longer do anything but write.
But these letters will never be useful and meaningful unless FIBA choose to hear us. To listen to us.

Gilas 3.0 10:32pm I am writing this blog to preserve my feelings for tonight's game. I won't try for this to be a literary shit because I just can't formally put into words everything I'm thinking and feeling right now. So I'm just gonna type whatever comes into my head. Bear with me because here it goes.. WHAT. THE. FUCK. I can't even remember how many times I've said that sentence in this night's FIBA Asia Championship match between Philippines and China. China obviously had the height and home court advantage but it wasn't, at all, right to use that to prejudice the opponent or compromise the integrity of the game. The players were very aggressive, trying to fish out fouls whenever they can - which are smart, but became, at some point, unethical. There were obviously so many fouls that weren't called in favor of the Philippines yet the slightest violation or contact from the Philippine players were called in favor of China. What the fuck, right? And the crowd didn't help at all either. I know it was China's home court but what happened tonight was way beyond just owning the court. Things were thrown at the Philippine bench, coaches and staff were hit, there were a lot of commotion in the bleachers as the fans of China bombarded the Filipino fans with physical action and insults which were very distracting and not conducive for the players to focus on the game. The noise was acceptable but with everyone talking in Chinese, we can't really be sure that we weren't being backstabbed or badmouthed there. Not that it really matters but it wasn't fair. The arena was just plain chaotic. Throughout the game, all I kept on thinking was that the Gilas only needed one boost, one run that could bring the enthusiasm and drive back. One play that could possibly save what was left of the game. That never happened. And it suddenly made me miss Mark Barroca. He was that person for Purefoods, B-meg, SanMig, Star and Gilas before. On tonight's game, no one stepped up to that position. I searched for hope in others and was glad because Andre Blatche's free throws, Dondon Hontiveros' 3-pointer in 3rd quarter, Marc Pingris' humility and Jason Castro's light smiley attitude gave me that. But sadly, it wasn't enough. The game needed more than that. I always disliked Calvin Abueva's guts and angst in Philippine basketball. He always managed to do well even though it appears that almost the whole arena are pining against him, especially so when the whole arena is pining against him. Since we were on foreign grounds, I searched for said guts and angst tonight. I hoped that the Chinese fans' boos and profanities and rude attitude towards the Filipino crowd and players would rile him up and get him going in the game but it didn't. I was disappointed once again. By the ending half of the 4th quarter, I let it go. The faith was still there, and the hope, but it wasn't like before. We were down by 16 points with only a little more than 4 minutes left. It was almost a lost cause. There were a lot of times that I thought that the commentators were better coaches because what they were saying were true. Their perspective of the game was truly on point with mine. The referees should have been reported for the fouls they didn't call and for the calls that weren't just. The tapes should have been reviewed properly because it was obvious that most times, the calls didn't add up. The crowd should have been controlled because it reached the point that it wasn't healthy for the game and the players. The security should have done better in everything. But I don't mean to be bias in this. I concede and accept the fact that Gilas Pilipinas had their faults as well. They lost because there were a lot (and by a lot, I mean A LOT) of missed opportunities. There were so many shots that went to trash just because the execution weren't perfect and the timing wasn't right. There were also a lot of unnecessary fouls. The China did a really good job in fouling Gilas especially Calvin Abueva because they realized he doesn't make his free throws. That was a really huge 'sayang' on the part of Gilas because they would have leveled with China's score with those missed free throws alone. The staff should have called more efficient timeouts. The China team gained momentum after momentum and the Gilas coaching staff didn't do anything to stop those momentums. And so it grew and grew until they can no longer decrease the lead. Jason Castro wasn't on fire tonight. Andre Blatch lost his cool once or twice. The shooting guard's attempts mostly failed. And JC, Asi and Ping should have been given more minutes. I really have a lot to say about tonight's game. But what good would it make? The game's over. However, I don't exactly blame anyone. Both teams obviously played their hearts out. So, congratulations to China for winning the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. And my warmest admiration, gratitude and applause to Gilas Pilipinas for reaching this far into the tournament. Thank you for giving the country another pride which is the Silver award in this year's FIBA Asia Championship. It took a lot of discipline, courage, sacrifice, effort and talent to get here. Now let's prove ourselves again in Rio. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

REALLY?
I just want to express my opinion sa fiba asia championship. Isn鈥檛 it unfair na sobrang luto yung game. The referees in the first place. Dapat diba wala silang kinakampihan pero thanks china. Maybe kayo ang nakakuha ng trophy but we won the hearts of people who are really fans of basketball. What I also hate are the crooowd. They gave abueva a middle finger. ano pa bang gusto nila eh talo na nga. Wala na nga diba? Tuwang tuwa sila sa kadayaan nila. Psh. Now prove to us na dun dapat gawin ang Fiba World Cup eh kung sa Asia Tournament palang ganyan na yung nangyayari. SMH 馃憥馃憥
