#11: Fields Corner

This is our closest library I’d never been to, though Reese and Jack had both visited. We went for a special Friends of the Library brunch on Saturday morning. (For the first time, I forgot to take a photo of the sign, so this is a #latergram from Sunday morning!)

Travel notes: The Fields Corner library is exactly 1 mile from home, a straight shot up Dot Ave, also accessible by red line, passed by me on basically every trip I make out of my house, and yet somehow never before stopped at. The unprepossessing location shares a strip mall with a cell phone store. 

Teresa’s rating: Neighborly. Because this is literally my neighborhood library, but also the librarians and Friends of the Library and the teacher of the baby sign class were all extraordinarily friendly and chatty. They convinced Jack to join the Friends while I was picking my book. (Jack also bought an amazing 1984 children’s book about microcomputers from the Friends book sale.)

Reese’s rating: 15/10. CAKE FOR BREAKFAST* would happily cake again. Also lots of adoring adults trying to learn to speak baby. Also stood unassisted for the first time, NBD.

Teresa’s book: Cooked by Michael Pollan. I again sort of just grabbed a book as we were hurrying out of the library, but I think this is going to be a nostalgic look back at pre-baby days when I did things like culture yogurt and keep a sourdough pet.

Reese’s book: Baby Signs Video Dictionary DVD. The Fields Corner branch is about to start an awesome-sounding baby sign class, but, like many awesome library events, during the day on a weekday. I told the librarian we were interested but couldn’t attend, and ten minutes later, she’d found this DVD, found me, and put it in my hand. I love librarians.

Nearby attractions: Fields Corner is our go-to place for cool cafes and coffee shops. The brunch was catered by the ever lovely home.stead, but I’ve lately also been enjoying Coco Leaf for bubble tea and Southeast Asian–inspired snacks, Chill on Park for ice cream, and the brand-new Caffe Zia Gianna for Italian coffee, sandwiches, and pastry.

* Technically, bites of a cheddar scone, a blueberry muffin, and a cinnamon roll, but I totally concede that American breakfast is dessert, and there is nothing like introducing a baby to food to make you realize how terrible your own diet is.
