Manpreet Singh creates history, becomes first Indian to win FIH Men’s Player of the Year - other sports

Manpreet Singh created history on Thursday as the halfback became the first Indian hockey team player to win the FIH Men’s Player of the Year awards since its inception in 1999. Manpreet won the award ahead of Belgium’s Arthur van Doren and Lucas Vila of Argentina, who finished second and third respectively. The Indian hockey team skipper has enjoyed a long career in the national squad since he made his debut in 2011. With more than 260 appearances, he has been a huge asset for the team and he will lead the team in the FIH Hockey Pro League. In 2019, as captain, Manpreet Singh led his team to victory in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers, thus securing a spot at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Manpreet represented India at London 2012 and Rio 2016.Talking about the 2019 season, Manpreet said: “If you look at our year, we did well in every tournament we participated in. Um ótimo campeonato, péssimo calendário

Chegamos a contagem regressiva e faltam menos de 12 horas para o início do torneio FIH Pro League 2020, na madrugada deste dia 11 (aqui no Brasil), teremos o jogo entre China e Holanda. Por isso traremos neste texto uma análise sobre os jogos desses dois times na temporada 2019.

E aqui já quero entrar com a primeira crítica ao formato do torneio e como é desgastante para jogadores e comissões técnicas. Vamos aos caminhos percorridos pelos times visitantes nas rodadas anteriores aos confrontos:

Nas rodadas que antecederam o primeiro jogo, realizado na cidade de Changzhou na China o time da Holanda fez o seguinte percurso. No dia 2 de fevereiro o time jogou em Melbourne na Austrália, logo após esse jogo teve algum tempo de folga e no dia 16 de fevereiro jogou contra a seleção dos EUA no Campus da Universidade de Wake Forest, em Winston-Salem, Carolina do Norte. 

Em seguida viajou até Buenos Aires para enfrentar Las Leonas no dia 24 de fevereiro e fez sua última parada na cidade chinesa onde os times se enfrentaram pela primeira vez. Durante o período de um mês entre o jogo com a Austrália e o jogo contra a China a seleção holandesa percorreu nada mais nada menos que 43.612 km. Distância suficiente para um volta na terra e ainda fica com 3.000 quilômetros de troco.

Agora o caminho das chinesas até o segundo jogo em Abril:

O último jogo em casa antes de sair para sua road trip foi no dia 22 de março, já no dia 31 do mesmo mês o adversário foram las Leonas em Rosário, seguido de um jogo contra as belgas em Bruxelas, no dia 7 de abril e por último jogo de volta contra as holandesas em Utrecht no dia 10 de abril. 

Bem o último trecho foram percorridos apenas 176 km com um pouco mais de 1 hora e meia de viagem, mas em 20 dias a seleção chinesa percorreu  31.323 km. Estas informações também mostram que a fadiga e cansaço podem ter influenciado nos resultados.

É muito importante refletir sobre a estrutura de calendário da FIH Pro League, principalmente em um ano com a principal competição do esporte mundial, as Olimpíadas.

O desgaste físico acaba influenciando muito nas performances dos atletas e a falta de períodos para treinos acabam sendo um fator prejudicial a evolução técnica e tática dos times.
