Gosh, these moths just have one of the most well co-ordinated looks. The popping red. The shiny black that turns blue and green. The fluff that is well groomed. The antennae that are perfectly curled at the ends. A stylish lad.

In the wonderful walled garden of Kierfiold House, Orkney, a clump of Filipendula camtschatica (giant meadowsweet) that has been a long term occupant of the border was starting to flower. This leafy perennial meadowsweet has stout stems up to 2m tall and thrives in a moist soil in sun or part shade.

雌蛾及雄蛾的外觀相似，展翅為3-4厘米。前翅是深金屬綠色，其上有6個很明顯的紅點。有一些的斑點會是黃色或甚至是黑色的。後翅是紅色的，邊緣黑色。成蟲會於6月至8月炎熱及陽光普照的日子飛行，多種的花朵也可以吸引它們，如矢車菊及山蘿蔔。百脈根及三葉草是幼蟲的食物。它們會在幼蟲階段過冬。

六星燈蛾的幼蟲略胖及有毛，一般為淡綠色及有黑色斑點。它們會在葉子上結蛹。

Notes: I didn't take a pic of this one in bloom this year so you'll have to do with last years bloom. The plant this year is going crazy and has reached over 6 ft and is leaning now. We've also picked up two more bare-roots because the plant is wind-pollinated and we're hoping they're successful. Also bonus spider :3
