Since I’m desperately in love with @finelinernerd ‘s watercolors I just could pass by his inspiring #drawthisinyourstylechallenge . The name Medusa can be translated from the Ancient Greek verb “to guide and protect” and that can be the reason, why the depiction of her head was seen as the protective amulet. She is considered to be one of the three sisters known as Gorgons. According to Ovid’s Metamorphoses Medusa was a beautiful maiden, who caught an eye of Poseidon and was raped by him in Athena’s temple. For this Athena cursed her and transformed her hair into snakes, so no man could ever look at her again. Was it a curse or an attempt to protect the maiden in future really depends on the angle. Concept test- In continuation of my "let the devil in" or "horns and halos" series I was inspired to join the draw prompt for @finelinernerd Nov stream. The theme was "crown". I have been looking for just the right time to start a series using @codyfern for inspiration. His amazing approach to fashion and statement inspires me. That gender fluid mix perfect for the series I want to work on in 2021. Paints are by the amazing @agallocolors and my go to dark @poemsaboutme mayan indigo (its amazing). Interview with Mia Anderson

After my initial research I wanted to ask some people within the industry what their thoughts were on on fashion illustration and the role it plays in their lives. 

Mia is fashion designer for a supplier that designs for multiple women’s high street brands. What role does fashion illustration have in your work?  Fashion Illustration in its conventional way is not really in my industry. We draw fashion daily, but it’s for practical reasons rather than the beautiful masterpieces I call fashion illustration. We sketch to convey what we want the garment to look like, to show to pattern cutters so they can make our vision into a garment. Sometimes I’ll spruce up my sketches if I’m sending them to customers but not to the extent of true artworks. It’s fast fashion in the end. I don’t have time to be making my sketch to a publishable level. In High end fashion illustrations is definitely vital. To see how a collection is going to look and work before turning into a physical garment. What, in your opinion, is the purpose of fashion illustration when clothing can be photographed? Which is more impactful to you? Do we need illustration? Fashion illustration shows emotion and story that gets lost in a photograph. A photo can show what it really looks like, but an illustration can really sell the idea and a dream. Emphasising the movement, colours and details in a garment. I  just think illustrators are so talented. I wish I could do what they do! Also in a time when we are trying to be less wasteful. It’s used as a preventative of waste, 9/10 times you can tell in a sketch if the garments not going to work, before you start wasting fabric. Are there any illustrators or designers who's drawings you particularly like? There are so many amazingly talented illustrators. Most high end/couture designers all have beautiful artist. I think I actually only follow one illustrator, finelinernerd. He isn’t fashion but he just conveys so much emotion, talent and detail in watercolour it’s inspiring. I do follow a few Instagram accounts that publish multiple fashion illustrators work. It’s nice to see variety of the talent and styles out there.  Do you have any of your own drawings you would be willing to share? I wish it’s something I really want to work on, but when you draw garments all day. I don’t often want to go home and learn the stylise them. I can draw clothes... faces... they are questionable. But I have started to learn character design! It’s such an amazing talent to have! I hope photography never makes illustration irrelevant. Because it’s so beautiful.
