It is essentially the same as the technique described by Fiore dei Liberi in the 1400s, whose manual images are used here. James McGraw's officer sword design seems to be made up of a mix of different British patterns and eras. There was no official pattern for Royal Navy swords back in 1700s. The first regulations for their swords first appeared in 1805.
