Make You Weird Again

"Things are... weird.”

How often have you heard that since March?

I said it many times, grasping for words to give life to my feelings of uncertainty, anxiety - whether real, of losing job or home - or imagined.

But things weren’t “weird.”

They were eerie.

Weird is wearing different shoes at a formal affair.

Weird is twitches and ticks followed by a wide smile.

Weird is yelling “YOU’RE WEIRD,” to someone, then lovingly pushing them on the shoulder.

Last year? It was eerie. 

And no, all that made the year sinister won’t fade into nothingness as we close the book on 2020.

But one thing I’m hoping for is that things stop being weird...

And we go back to being weird.

To being quirky. Different. Ourselves. Strange to some, like home to others.

To sharing what we know, learning with humility, inspiring, inciting curiosity.

To seeking creative outlets. Collaborating, not comparing.

To being diligent students of the truth, to welcoming new humans, new thoughts, ideas that bring us together and move us forward - as weird as we may individually be.
