Oh man, I love these. They are exciting.

🪓For this I'm pulling from a WIP that I haven't worked on in months, but that I do plan on getting back to. Although apparently I haven't written the wood-chopping scene that I thought I had, so maybe I should write that, since it's in my brain. John Here's a snippet from Rodney McKay Goes to Maine:

He waits until he hears the shower start up before leaning and hitting his head a few times against the opposite wall. He’s not sure he ever wanted to see Rodney again, but now he’s here, in his cabin in the middle of nowhere in Maine, in his fucking shower. 

🔙For this, you're getting a flashback from the same WIP that I haven't touched in ages (the whole thing is mapped out and has a series of flashbacks throughout):

“Whatever possessed you to start listening to country music? I know you were subjected to the same 80s pop and rock that I was. Is it that they sing about cars?” “Well, I think it was when my wife left me, and she took the truck and the dog.” John was smirking as if it were one big joke, but Rodney noticed his hands tighten on the steering wheel. Rodney tried to break the tension, “You, Mr. football, ferris wheels, and fast cars, had a truck? What for?” John eased up on the steering wheel and drawled, “Well, the dog liked it.”

🍦I am going to interpret this as being about the cold. And like all good noir, my noir!Rodney story starts on a rainy, cold night, and we meet a tall, dark-haired stranger inappropriately dressed for the weather:

“You gotta light?” Rodney hid his startlement with a disapproving frown. He took quick stock of the man taking cover in the darkened doorway next to Teyla’s. Even with this rain, he wasn’t wearing a hat or jacket, but the shoulders of his suit were only damp, and his shock of messy black hair wasn’t slicked to his forehead as you’d expect. Teyla didn’t allow smoking in her club, which was actually one of the reasons Rodney had started drinking there, even before he’d become friends with the owner. The man must be desperate for a smoke if he was huddling out here. “Hey buddy, did you have a light, or do I have to go back inside and find my coat?” Rodney ducked his head, hiding his blush in the motion of looking through his pockets. He hadn’t realized he’d been staring.

"We'll need to you come to the station, Mr. Wesley. And it seems that drug test is in order too."   "I'll make sure you'll be alright, chéri..."  

Alex was prosecuted for manslaughter. Henri hired the best lawyer he could find to defend Alex. And indeed, she was able to convince the judge that Dillon's death had been a tragic accident and Alex wasn't to hold accountable. Or maybe it was the fact that he had entertained the judge at one of Henri's parties not too long before.

"Defendant Alex Xander Wesley is not guilty of manslaughter. He is, however, guilty of using illegal substances and having them in his possession. While this is serious offence, he is a first-timer. Thereby, he is sentenced to rehabilitation."

Notes: It was clear from the beginning that Alex is not short for Alexander, his given name is Alex. It took me ages to decide on his second name but I’m pretty happy with Xander. It’s silly but it fits.

In one version of this flashback story, Kody was one of the paramedics checking on Dillon. It would have made things needlessly complicated so I scrapped that idea.

For a communication design lesson, the introduction of design elements and principles is undoubtedly crucial ‼️ From line, shape, and texture to balance, emphasis, and rhythm, all these ideas surround us all the time even sometimes we cannot notice it. Indeed, it is a good recap for us.💭

Later on, all of us had to posted our sketches (assignment of last week)  on the whiteboard :P

Flashback✨🔙:

While I was drawing my sketches, I consider the reasons why people suicide, the ways how they suicide, the object that symbolizes the afterlife of suicide, and how can others rescue them. Some of the ideas are from the suicide rate report, and some of them are from my imagination. I tried to put myself into their shoe and experience how they feel.

' For each person’s sketches, you will choose the top two that you think are the most effective. Place one sticker on each sketch you choose. '

Standing in front of all the sketches, I was impressed by all the works. Their imagination and creativity is amazing. The object they drew can show that they have consider many aspects before they work on it. Some are detailed while some are simple yet innovative. Also, part of us has already worked on logo design. I got so much inspiration from them🤩

My reflection💌:

I have to consider deeper into how to show the theme of suicide with many clear elements However, I still want to keep the concept that suicide could be a new life for those people which makes them relieved.

The sketch I chose

The reason for me to pick this sketch😋

1. Actually ‘folktales’ involve many stories. Even though some of them are iconic, they cannot represent the whole idea of ‘folktales’👻👹

2. When talking about candles in the past, we can imagine a mother telling bedtime stories to her children with a candle for illumination. I think it would be a good element to be used.👅

3. The flame of the candle can also symbolise that the folktales are still renowned among families since they are still spreading as if candle.👀 The thawed candle can represent the long-lasting tradition of folktales👁️.

4.For the design principles, I can relate the sketch to the idea of symmetry and movement. It would be a good idea for her to follow when she further develops her logo.
