Music Video: BabyFace Ray - 'Waymo'
youtube
written by ZACHARY HORVATH
Babyface Ray is a sneaky underrated talent who hails from the crowded scene of Detroit Michigan. We say that because there are so many who attract a lot of attention from the media and fans. Babyface has a more lowkey style compared to artists like Eminem, Danny Brown, Big Sean, and others. If you want to size him up to some of the more recent talents, Veeze and Luh Tyler share similarities. Raspy and conversation-like flows with more minimal production. Whether those two names would like to thank Babyface for his influence remains to be seen.

AS SEEN ON TV
Tumblr media
FreshDuzIt has been the one to look out for from Indianapolis. In the midst of the city’s resurgence, FreshDuzIt has aligned himself with many of Memphis high-profile figures, including 8ball. The Space Age Pimpin' rapper co-signed FreshDuzIt and remade his song "Kick Dat" featuring Damedot & Daboi, when he released Indianpolis DuzIt in 2022.
Street rap is incredibly genuine—even the glossiest versions are murky, specific, unglamorous, and lacking in pretense. Street rap is working class in both its aesthetic and its goals, the latter of which is being a voice for a community that has none. It’s tempting for buzzing rappers to keep producing new work, striking while the iron is hot. FreshDuzIt’s inspiration model for this cover is Future, whose legend is due in part to the fact that he is always in the studio, recording enough to ensure his discography is outlasting .

''Luh Tyler - Stand On Biz"
youtube
Even decades after Bobby Bowden retired from coaching the hometown Seminoles, Black boys in Tallahassee are growing up quickly. At 16, Tallahassee’s own Luh Tyler dropped “Law & Order,” a track so smooth that it should play over Deion Sanders highlights. In a voice that is high in pitch but rich in timbre, Tyler raps, “No, I can’t break the code, but I can take your bitch and break her spine/ This a classy ho, this bitch got me outside drinking wine.” Yes, in Tallahassee, they grow to be unruly even before they can legally drink.“Stand On Biz” is menacing in tone, “Poppin Shit” even more so, and Tyler is up to the task of performing that menace, injecting some spunk into his cool disposition: “Man, that nigga know he dumb, his ass went broke up on some jewelry.”

" BLP Kosher x BabyTron - Mazel Tron"
youtube
BLP Kosher is an artist out of Florida whose name has been bubbling in both the underground hip-hop community and in circles in the music industry, there are a ton of people interested in him right now, and today we are back with a brand new Lyrical Lemonade music video for BLP’s record titled “Mazel Tron” featuring Detroit leader BabyTron. Considering that this is the LL debut for BLP, and his introduction to a massive audience that may not be in tune with him just yet, it’s a perfect combination that he’s teaming up with BabyTron here.
When you think about what helped get BabyTron from a local Michigan musician to a worldwide known superstar, it’s the fact that the delivery of his punchline-heavy bars is always on point and usually makes people laugh or raise an eyebrow. With that thought in mind, when you sit back and analyze BLP Kosher’s career up to this point, he has a good amount of similarities to BabyTron.
As you probably expected, these two came through with a boatload of punchline bars in this fun music video, it came out perfect & I believe this will be the launching pad to push his musical career to the stratosphere. Take some time out of your Friday and check out this new visual above!

Icewear Vezzo And DJ Drama ‘Paint The City’
youtube
Icewear Vezzo has connected with DJ Drama to share Paint The City, a new Gangsta Grillz mixtape. A natural evolution from Vezzo’s acclaimed Rich Off Pints series, Paint The City finds the 6 Mile native spitting witticisms earned from a lifetime of hustling.
The new mixtape bolsters Vezzo’s matter-of-fact flexes with Drama’s energetic exhortations, providing a jolt of electricity to the first-ever Gangsta Grillz tape by a Detroit rapper. Drama curates a selection of beats–many from regular Vezzo collaborators including Antt Beatz, Foreva Rollin, June Da Genius, and Max Beats–that contrast Vezzo’s signature piano-led menace (“RNS”) with a more triumphant sound that reflects the recent Quality Control signee’s successes (“Ain’t No Turning Back”).
Paint The City illustrates the immense respect that Icewear Vezzo commands in the rap game–the 6 Mile ambassador rolls out the red carpet for a list of renowned guest stars to talk their smack. The tape is home to the buzzing single “It’s All On U” featuring Kodak Black, which generated over five million streams on Spotify and 11 million views on YouTube, and “Certified,” a sinister slapper that envelops Future into Vezzo’s sonic realm.

Big Scarr: Memphis’ Street Prince
Big Scarr is the type of artist who more artists should take after. Instead of running from his past, he embraces it. Scarr’s transparency is genuine from multiple times surviving gunshots and embracing his father as a role model.
The trenches of Magnolia neighborhood of South Memphis battle-tested him, and he made it out strong. Today he’s enjoying life and coming off a successful debut album release of ‘Big Grim Reaper.’ Viral videos such as the SoIcyBoyz series and “Make A Play” expectations are at an all-time high for Scarr.
Add in his fast-growing fan base and quality trap music; the Memphis star is making waves worldwide. With the success of label mates Pooh Shiesty (his cousin), and Foogiano, Scarr is next to get his voice heard. While he might not be as vocal as those two are, he accepts himself for who he is his way.
“I’m just myself; I’m a product of the environment I’m from,” he said. “From the times I got shot to being reckless in my youth, my music is a reflection of that. I hope to inspire the youth to do good.”

Trap-Fi "The New Trap Order"
Tumblr media
Trap-Fi is a subgenre of Trap that emerged in the mid-2020s, pioneered by producer FreshDuzIt and members of his Platinum Playmakas in-house beat group, who were influenced by the more minimalistic production of trap pioneer's Zaytoven and D.Rich. The Trap-fi sound is defined by its common use of chimpunk soul samples and rhytmic drum and hi-hat patterns, subby 808s and heavy low end, 90's & 2010's samples, digital pads, and Mob like Pianos and synths. Productions almost exclusively use claps on third beats, while snares are reduced to only being on half beats. Songs are commonly mid-tempo between 135 and 152BPM, although producers have made tracks outside this tempo range. Abundant producer tags are another common element of the style, most notably the iconic "NothingLiketheotherz!" tag used by Platinum Playmakas members. Producers have also very frequently combined the production techniques of the genre with Plugg Rap. FreshDuzIt remains the style's most well known and influential producer, producing tracks for many Underground rappers, most notably his frequent work with NLE Choppa.
The most common types of vocals on tracks range from standard trap rapping, to melodic Pop Rap, to rapping with autotune, which artists in the latter style and their fans have dubbed . The style has also grown beyond Platinum Playmakas circle, with many producers such as , Zaytoven pushing the style, and even collaborating with the group's members. Trap-fi producers, such as Lul Boobie and Bhz C.o, have also taken the genre's production styles into a more energetic and higher-tempo direction, with bouncier melodies, static hi hat patterns, and more liberal use of snares.

10 Rappers You Should Know Right Now on Spotify, Youtube , Apple, & Tiktok
Tumblr media
Finesse2Tymes, StreetMoney Boochie, AR The Mermaid, Slimeroni, and Diddy DaDon are among the artists on our radar — they should be on your radar, too.
Finesse2Tymes
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Finesse2Tymes began his career more than a decade ago as a member of Memphis Greatest Underrated, a rap group formed in the early 2010s alongside Moneybagg Yo and Blac Youngsta. Over the last decade, prison stints slowed down his momentum: after building a groundswell of local support in the few years prior, he was sentenced to five years in federal prison on a firearm charge in 2018. Upon his release this past summer, he hit the ground running, releasing a string of singles leading up to his 90 Days project in December. On “Finesse Duh P” he brings his world-weary delivery to his relationships, rapping in his gravelly tone over bluesy piano runs.
Streetmoney Boochie
youtube
Hometown: Atlanta, GA
Tumblr media
Our first time seeing Boochie was 2016 with Bankroll fresh on “Walked In”, then with Nefew & Trouble “Soulja rags that went viral for bringing tanks to the apartments in Atlanta
A.R. The Mermaid
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Memphis TN has been consistently dominating air waves for a minute now, but these days it seems the stakes just keep escalating.  “Let A Hoe Play’ is undeniable! Her notoriety is rapidly going up as listeners grab hold of the latest drop. Even Drake has decided AR The Mermaid is a force to be reckoned with, recently dropping a follow on Instagram.
Trench Babys ENT
youtube
Hometown: Tampa, FL
Can’t lie the trench baby's Went In On This. self explanatory.
Slimeroni
youtube
Hometown: Memphis, TN
Tumblr media
Slim, gorgeous and multi-talented, Miss Slimeroni is a female rapper hailing from Memphis, Tennessee!
Joining the company of veterans like Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo, the late Young Dolph, the newest female sensation Glorilla, and many other greats, Slimeroni oozes on the scene as an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with.
Diddy DaDon
youtube
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Tumblr media
For an artist so young, Diddy DADON has several lifetimes of experience behind him. His songs are filled with dense imagery and careful details conveyed in a measured cadence that exudes a hunger and intensity that far exceeds his age.
FreshDuzIt
youtube
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
Tumblr media
Spend an hour or two in a Indiana rap YouTube hole and you'll end up hearing a lot of songs that sound the same. FreshDuzIt on the other hand, tends to stand out. He's incredibly consistent (he's dropped 4 projects alone in 2022) featuring hits with the biggest stars in rap.
Sexyy Red
youtube
Hometown: St. Louis, MO
Tumblr media
Sexyy Redd has been our radar since her and Summer Walker teamed up for there "Sense dat God gave you" visual.
Kookie
youtube
Hometown: Detroit, MI
Tumblr media
For a rapper with some of the hardest, most gore-fixated bars, Kookei has a laughably “soft” name. The Detroit native, whose sweets-invoking nom de plume was inspired by a childhood stint as a bake-sale maven, raps in a hushed, almost jokey tone, which makes his grim lyrics — about pissing on the opposition’s graves, when not outright blowing off their heads — sound both seductive and scary. Inspired by the carnage-heavy one-liners of early Eminem, Kookei decided, two years ago, to turn himself into a rapper. After posting a few loosies on YouTube, he released Psychopath, his excellent debut — boasting 20 macabre but mellifluous songs — earlier this year. You don’t have to have a cast-iron stomach to digest it: Psychopath is fun, provocative, and wildly inventive. “A lot of stuff you can’t take serious. You gotta laugh at that shit,” he says. “That’s just me. And I be high as hell.”
Luh Tyler
youtube
Hometown: Tallahassee
Tumblr media
I must say that majority of my favorite artists out right now are rising out of Florida. 16-year-old buzzing artist Luh Tyler is my latest obsession, and I can’t stop listening to his music. Just a few months ago, one of my friends texted me his single “Law & Order,” and wrote sign him now.

Hittkidd,Gloss Up, Slimeroni, K Carbon and Aleza “Shabooya”
youtube
Aleza, Gloss Up, Slimeroni, and K Carbon reintroduce themselves on a playful track that interpolates the classic schoolyard chant “Shabooya (Roll Call).”
On 2021’s “Set the Tone,” producer Hitkidd set his sights on platforming Black women–led gangsta rap and spreading the sounds of Memphis across the world. The song blew up, thrusting up-and-coming Southern talent into the spotlight; later, the same crew—Aleza, Gloss Up, Glorilla, Slimeroni, and K Carbon—struck gold again with their follow-up “Hot Potato.” The posse cuts received another boost of popularity this year, after the breakthrough success of Glorilla’s “F.N.F (Let’s Go)” and “Tomorrow 2.” On “Shabooya,” the ensemble—minus Glorilla, who’s on tour—returns to reintroduce themselves by putting a brazen spin on the age-old school bus chant “Shabooya (Roll Call).”
On the track, the quartet is like a really hard version of the PowerPuff Girls, each showing off their distinct personality. Slimeroni’s over-it goth girl vibe is counterbalanced by Aleza’s bubbly stoner persona; Gloss Up asserts herself with the confident demeanor of a cheer captain, while Carbon is a rabble-rouser bragging about shitting on bitches and running through their man’s money. “I touch big figures/I’m strickly doggin’ niggas,” Carbon raps, and, late,r Gloss Up doubles down against munches: “Keep my pussy in his mouth just like some floss.” Playful ad-libs enhance the sense of camaraderie. It’s like you’re in the inner circle of a rap battle, but everyone’s too busy hyping each other up to compete.

CMaejor "Not Average'
youtube
Indianapolis has been producing a wide-ranging assortment of new talent over the last few years and there's apparently no end in sight as we get another introduction, this time CMaejor. Dropping off his video for the single, Not Average" it's pretty quickly apparent he stands outside of what's considered in vogue.
