For this #BlackFoodFridays feature, I have to mention one of my local favorites. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ Shell Shack seafood brings all the Caribbean flavors I need in my life and features my favorite, SEAFOOD! No matter what my entrée is, I cannot leave the building my without corn fritters. These crispy, bready balls are fried perfectly, slightly sweet, and are paired with a slightly spicy, creamy dipping sauce. I usually go for the corn fritters toped with curried crab, but you can opt for the corn fritters alone. ⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ For those of you already fans, and those of you whose mouth is currently watering, this Saturday, January 30th will be Shell Shack's last day inside @mixtfoodhall. Don't panic though, they'll be back in the Spring from their new food truck⁠!⁠⁠ ⁠⁠ On another note, Shell Shack is also coming through with a new concept, Caribbean-Asian fusion, “The Naughty Noodles”! I'm not sure how I feel about a day off in the middle of the week versus a nice long three day weekend. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ This Thursday is a busy one for me and when I'm busy I go for what's easy and that's takeout. I'm thinking back to last week when we tried FedWich and FedWings. Both are actually a pop-up collaboration between Federalist Pig & Kramerbooks located inside Kramerbooks. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I was gifted the sandwiches and wings and I have to say they won me over. I'm a meat eater but I I'm a fan of probably most mushrooms. There are so many varieties I may never try them all but when I saw a FauxWich on the menu I was curious. The Portobello cap was thick and savory, but caramelized onions and mushroom aioli were it for me. I felt like I was eating a messy burger and I didn't miss the meat. I offered Hubbs a bite and next thing I know half my sandwich is gone!⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ We also tried the Feddy Cheesteak which was pretty big and the cherry pepper aioli adds a nice tangy spice. Sooo...from someone who loves sauce I'll tell you they offer seven sauces. I had the Alabama White BBQ, Sticky Garlic, Hot Honey, and House Ranch. They were all good but my fave may have been the Hot Honey. Again, as someone who loooooves sauce, let me tell you, you don't need the sauce. The wings are perfect with the dry rub. I love to cook, but some days all I can do is order.⠀ ⠀ Even when I order in I try to take a few pics to share with you all and take notes about our experience for reviews. Get the chargrilled oysters and thank me later.⠀ ⠀ Luke in New Orleans has great happy hour prices. ⠀ ⠀ J’s Oyster in Portland ME serves up some delicious steamers.⠀ ⠀ Tito’s Oysters in Puerto Rico are big and meaty and he even makes his own hot sauce!⠀ ⠀ Fishers Island Oysters in NY are flavorful and fresh. You can find them locally and soon you’ll be able order online.⠀ ⠀ Klaw in Dublin, Ireland will give you a show if you order the Torched Oysters.⠀ . . . Out of the Blue Crabs & Seafood in Gainesville, VA serves up a fresh, plump oyster . . . Rappahannock Oyster Bar in DC never disappoints. “The only thing I like better than talking about food, is eating.” - John Walters⠀ ⠀ When I hear about a food one too many times I have to try it for myself. I kept hearing about these Duck Buns and how good they were, specifically from @atownbites. As a fan of duck I’m like “yay duck”. ⠀ ⠀ I’ve only ever had pork belly buns. So I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect but if the duck buns were just as good as pork belly buns ...I was drooling just thinking about it. ⠀ ⠀ When I walked into TNR Cafe I didn’t know everything I wanted to eat but I knew I had to have those DUCK BUNS! ⠀ ⠀ The duck was nice and tender, the sauce was flavorful, and the buns were soft. There is just something about those steamed buns. Put anything on those buns and I’m trying it 😋. Since I’ve been under the weather the only things I’ve been eating is chicken, noodles, broth and crackers for days. Weather like this calls for something hearty. ⠀ ⠀ I don’t know about you, but cold gets to my bones 🥶. I don’t know my meal plan for the weekend but I want something hot and good 🤔. ⠀ ⠀ I’ve always loved pasta but fresh, handmade pasta is different from the box stuff that’s convenient to cook at home. 🍝 I found fresh, al dente pasta at Gregorio’s. Full servings, sauces just the way I like, and seafood! ⠀ ⠀ I actually ordered the rigatoni with sausage and meatballs, cause let’s face it, there’s not much better than Italian sausage. Though I did get a chance to try the clams and linguini, and it was delicious 😋. Perfect noodles and tender clams, idk what they did to that dish but I loved it 😛. ⠀ ⠀ How many pasta fans are out there?? I discovered theses sweeties at @mmpbbq, Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster BBQ in Virginia. ⠀ ⠀ I love the ribs, and don’t sleep on the baby back mac. The Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie is flavorful, and not overly sweet, topped with ice cream to finish it off. I’m not ashamed to say, I tried more than one dessert. I also enjoyed the coconut cream pie. I don’t know what it is about coconut. Anybody get allergic to the kitchen when it’s cold and rainy out? 🤚🏾⠀ ⠀ If you know me you know one of my favorite foods, outside of dessert, is pizza. I don’t know about where y’all are, but it is raining in DC, and it is not too late to order a pie. ⠀ ⠀ Pizza, wings, pasta, I’m here for all of it. I love trying a new pizza spot, and Angelico La Pizzeria was a pleasant surprise. ⠀ ⠀ Have you tried Angelico’s?? There are four DC locations, one in Fairfax, VA and one in Odenton, MD.⠀ ⠀ I like a garlic knot but I tried these pinwheels with bacon and cheddar and they were on point. Speaking of bacon, the waffles fries, covered in cheese and bacon are a blessing. The wings, get them, period. Buffalo, BBQ, or Garlic, my favorite is garlic. ⠀ ⠀ The pizza is great but don’t sleep on the calzones. I tried the meatball calzone and it was PACKED with meatballs! I had the opportunity to get a behind the scenes tour of the newly renovated Air France lounge at Dulles. The lounge is a great place to layover between flights. I recently hung out here on my way to Iceland.⠀ ⠀ The Air France lounge serves Sky Team member airlines and Iceland Air passengers, that’s how I made my way in. We had a while before our flight so I was glad to have plenty of plugs for my electronics and of course the food! Whenever I talk about our travels I’m⠀ Always asked, “Where was your favorite place to eat?” ⠀ ⠀ What’s been your most memorable dish on your travels??⠀ ⠀ Hands down SOUTHEAST ASIA! We could not get over how good the food was. No matter what country, what city, it was just good! One of our favorite dishes was the BBQ Mud Crab we had in Singapore. Newton Food Center had soooooo many stalls but we saw those huge crab claws and looked no further. ⠀ ⠀ Oh that crab was smokey, flavorful, succulent, all the adjectives! The whole spread was really delicious, I mean we couldn’t just order one dish. We not new to this, we true to this. The stingray, garlic shrimp, and noodles, all perfection. Do you research where you want to eat before you travel?? I do! ⠀ ⠀ I have my list of eateries on hand when I arrive, but I also I also ask locals, my Airbnb host, and/or hotel concierge. Our first introduction to Puerto Rican food while we were out and about was Deaverdura. The draw for me is that it didn’t seem touristy. We sat right down and our server brought us drinks and explained the menu. The steak with onions was seasoned nicely and the fish tasted buttery. Those beans though!!! Sooo let me tell you I loved those beans so much I had to come home and find a recipe. As I eat my lentil soup for lunch, I sure wish I had a cheesesteak. 🤤⠀ ⠀ This beautiful bounty of cheesesteak was crafted by Hip City Veg. Yea, VEG!! That’s PLANT BASED STEAK!! I am a meat eater, but I’m also a veggie eater and these meggies (meat+veggies) were so good! I know I tried it lol. ⠀ ⠀ The cheesesteaks are super flavorful with mushrooms, onions, gooey cheese, and “steak”, on a soft roll. I could eat one of those any day. The Chick’n nuggets were also a hit with me, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Though I do not have them enough, I love udon noodles, so the udon noodle salad 👌🏾. ⠀ ⠀ Now...if you know me you know I am a burger lover. I don’t have them every day but when I do have them, they MUST be right. The smokehouse burger was so good I almost forgot it wasn’t meat 😳. A Beyond Meat patty, crispy onions, tangy BBQ sauce, and melty Gouda cheese 😋. That burger made my whole night, just saying. ⠀ ⠀ What’s your favorite meggie sandwich?? Meals with friends are always the best. Catching up with folks and eating good food is IT for me. ⠀ ⠀ The DMV Foodie Crew recently got together at Nando’s Peri Peri. I’ve been to Nando’s before but I only tried their Halloumi sandwich. Nando’s is more known for their delicious chicken and I was too excited to get to try it. 😝⠀ ⠀ The chicken was super juicy, drizzle it with one of their sauces though and kick it up a notch. I like the lemon herb sauce myself. Oh another sauce, the Peri Drizzle is great over the hummus. Sooo...I have to say the garlic toast was hit for me. I love garlic and when you pair that with butter and bread 🙌🏾.⠀ ⠀ If you’re still making plans for Friendsgiving and no one wants to cook, check out the Nando’s menu.
