Gale and Tav, former academic rivals at Blackstaff Academy who vehemently “hated” each other. The day they graduated and never had to see each other again was the “happiest” day of their lives.
And then years later, Tav pulls Gale out of the portal, goes “This fucking guy?”, and immediately tries to push him back in.

Orin and Durge Sibling Headcanons
Surprise! Not only am I a Gortash apologist and Durgetash shipper, I am also an Orin apologist. Orin and Durge Spoilers below, beware!
"You took her from me."
Orin who learns cruelty from birth and never had any warmth from her 'family.' The closest she gets is praise from Sarevok, which she desperately clings to.
Orin who has to kill her mother at seven because she tried to murder her.
Durge who had a family they loved, overtaken by the Urge to slaughter them. Lead to a temple of brutal killers and told that this is their home now.
Orin and Durge, the only children in the temple, close in age and both having just lost their 'family', finding new family in each other.
Orin as a mentor to Durge, showing them how to wield their Urge into something beautifully destructive.
Durge who admires Orin's artistry, seeing the value in her work that others like Sarevok miss.
Durge showing Orin genuine care for the first time in her life, a remnant of the time with their foster family.
Orin who truly becomes Durge's big sister - Durge who becomes Orin's little protector.
Orin who, as a changeling has no 'true form', but chooses a form that purposefully looks like a sister to Durge.
Orin and Durge, running rampant as teenagers in the streets of Baldur's Gate, partners in crime.
Orin and Durge terrorizing their butlers together.
Orin and Durge who are separated when it is time for Durge to travel with Sceleritas and miss each other dearly.
Orin who is left behind and poisoned with envy by Sarevok.
Orin and Durge who worry that after so many years apart that everything will have changed.
Orin and Durge, reunited, who slowly discover that while some things have changed, others have not.
Orin who is more unhinged, but Durge who does not flinch away from them as others do.
Durge who is more cold, more ruthless, but still demands that Orin be in every single leadership meeting with them.
Orin and Durge slowly refinding their footing with each other because they both still deeply care.
Until Durge finds Gortash.
Orin who is at first jealous of how much attention Durge gives Gortash, but then is horrified at how much she sees Durge unravel around him.
Orin who confronts Durge about their relationship with Gortash, berating them for subjecting themselves to a Banite while internally coming from a place of great concern.
Orin whose entire life of Bhaalist teachings comes directly to a head with the one person she ever really cared about.
Orin who murders Durge as brutally as she possibly can to bury her feelings, to stop herself from screaming and failing.
Orin who snarls when Durge calls out for Enver while dying.
Orin who cradles Durge's body afterwards.
Orin who fucking hates Gortash because, even though she killed Durge, she blames him for necessitating it.
Orin screaming at Gortash, "You took her from me."

Pre-Game Orin Headcanons
Tumblr media
The headpiece Orin wears is purely ceremonial, meant to be worn by the head of the temple during rituals, only. She wears it constantly now as a representation of power - to show that SHE is the new Chosen. ‎ㅤ ‎‎ㅤ
Bhaalists subscribe to the tradition of hair representing victory. Prior to usurping Durge, Orin's hair was slightly shorter. She has since grown it out as a sign of victory over the former chosen. (If Durge had hair, she was sure to chop this off, too.) ‎‎ㅤ
Orin and Durge both wore traditional Bhaal cultist attire. Orin's red outfit came after.

do you think that gort used to like karlach at some point? or was he just always faking it to get what he wants? curious about your interpretation of their relationship
I actually wrote about that here! (TLDR: He very much admired her, but Gortash has a fucked up way of showing admiration.)
Karlach and Gortash’s relationship is fascinating. I feel strongly that it was platonic, with perhaps some wiggle room on Karlach's part only because she is really quick to say "it wasn't like that." But I do think that Karlach became one of only a handful of people that Gortash (thought he) cared about.
Gortash on a very base level would never put his security into the hands of someone he didn't trust. A lot of people really wonder "Why Karlach?" - and that's a great question to ask, what is this ~19 y/o (roughly) going to do for you? But it is because it is a bizarre pick that we should look deeper - on the one hand, she's young and impressionable and he can mold her - thats an obvious motivator. But on the other, I strongly believe Gortash saw himself in young Karlach. I also love Karlach and don't want to diminish anything that Gortash did to her, but I am a little skeptical of her "I didn't recognize evil when I saw it" line. I think that's not entirely true - I do think Karlach knew more about what he was (not a Banite, but an Arms Dealer), but she was young enough that she didn't quite understand the true ramifications of that. I think she knew her boss was bad, but didn't think too deeply into just how bad he was and the consequences of his actions. Plus, he gave her financial security she literally never had. As a person who grew up in poverty, yea I'd be willing to overlook a certain degree of shit too for that security.
[And to those who might be unhappy with that take - you're not giving Karlach enough credit. Someone who did bad things/was around bad people and ended up developing into an insanely incredible person in spite of it (and in opposition to it) is a testament to her character AND way more impressive than someone who was just blind and ignorant. She's so much more than that.]
Even more interesting is how genuinely happy Gortash is to see Karlach if you play her origin. It only comes out in this very quick origin-specific interaction - but he actually laughs and sounds different than the entire rest of the game.
"By the Black Hand, I'd recognize that voice anywhere."
Now, I'm insane and overanalyze voice actor's performances all the time, but his voice is immediately rougher and his cadence is different before it shifts back into the regular Gortash voice immediately in the next sentence - "Karlach - it's been an eternity" - as if he's caught himself slipping into something he shouldn't have. Will the real Enver Gortash please stand up?
I've also written about how I think Gortash is genuinely surprised that Karlach is angry with him/blames him for the Hells. It reveals so much about how he's so delusional about his own trauma.
So - in short - I feel that Gortash would say Karlach was one of the closest people to him ever and fully mean it. It's just that she happened to be close to someone who was a terrible, terrible person.

Crimson Mischief and Bloodthirst were forged as twin weapons for the children of Bhaal - Crimson Mischief for Orin and Bloodthirst for Durge. The weapons were nearly as inseparable as those who wielded them.
Bloodthirst was specifically modified to hold a Netherstone, which Orin saw as a betrayal of the twin nature of the weapons from the start.
But, because of this, Orin was forced to wield Bloodthirst after killing and usurping Durge. She detested using it, a constant reminder of her kin.
She called it Blade of the First Blood instead. She tried to forget its name. She tried to forget their name.

We all know Gortash and Durge’s antics make Ketheric regret ever being born in the first place. And I also believe there was a long span of time where Ketheric was forced to fully host them both at Moonrise due to planning purposes.
I love the idea of Ketheric interrupting their flirting at every meeting because he’s so tired of having to hear it.
But also give me Ketheric who is fed up with hearing them fuck loudly in the middle of the night because it’s his home damn it do they have no respect? (Spoiler: they don’t)
So one night he hopes to embarass them and finally put an end to it all by barging into Gortash’s room while they’re having sex.
Gortash, who loves to annoy Ketheric to no end and gets off on the power play of it all, just continues to fuck Durge into the mattress while smirking and speaking with Ketheric like it’s any other meeting. (Durge literally doesn’t care so long as they’re getting fucked.)
“Did you need something, Ketheric?”
Ketheric is pissed he can’t actually burn his eyes out afterwards.

Dirty talker Tav with an absolutely filthy mouth would be so good for Gale. Because you know this man loves to talk, but given his history I don’t think dirty talking would’ve been a huge part of his usual business. So when Tav and Gale start sleeping together and Tav just runs their mouth, Gale flushes - but it stirs something in him.
Gale is nothing if not a good learner. Tav would be disastrously unprepared for the day he is ready to match their lewd tongue - spewing nothing but filth into their ear without any warning at all.

Gale needs praise, yes, but he also can accept praise.
So give me a Tav who knows how to lavish Gale with it in the bedroom. Who tells him how good he makes them feel, how he’s an attentive lover - a great fuck.
A Tav who knows how to build Gale up in order to get exactly they want. Who sees the Wizard of Waterdeep stir under their admiration and ministrations.
A Gale who lets himself accept the praise, believe it all in the moment. A Gale who fucks like he knows every last piece of his partner is his. Who takes them because he deserves it. Because he deserves everything.

I’ve always been bothered by the inconsistency in Durge’s timeline with the Elder Brain. As we know, the Elder Brain expresses having had respect for Durge before they disappeared. But, if Orin tadpoled Durge during the crowning raid, that would mean that the Elder Brain and Durge never really should have known each other.
Therefore, I imagine Durge was the one who scouted the Mind Flayer colony multiple times prior to the crowning raid - and was one of the first to make contact with the Elder Brain in its dormant state.

In a non-Durge playthrough, I fully believe Orin's lobster suit is made of The Dark Urge.

I love the idea that the attributes that allowed for Durge's ultimate redemption were always a part of them, and just really smothered by/at war with Bhaal's influence.
And I also love the idea that they had characteristics which would warrant Jergal's notice from the start.
Give me a pre-game Durge who is a brutal killer, yes, but one who also meticulously writes down the name and perhaps even the story of every single life they take.
