Creating a Website

As a freelance creator, it is important to create easy access to you and your services. It will be your starting point in accessing your desired industry and it will make a crucial first impression to the online market and possible cliental. I will not bore you with the importance and influence of making a first impression because you probably already know that. So instead let us discuss HOW to make a good first impression to your online cliental and following.

Your website will function both as an online portfolio and as a gateway to get touch. Personal opinions and critiques should belong on other social media platforms where there is room for reflection and growth. Your website should showcase this growth in its conclusion rather than its progress.

My choice of web provider is Wix.com because it is initially free and makes designing your website easier and organised. Another recommendation would be foliobox. Both providers gives the option to purchase your own domain.

When choosing your domain, consider what your image is. Unless you live by a specific brand or artistic name, just make it your own name full name. Choosing your own name, makes it easier for viewers to find your website.

This is the welcome page of my website. It includes my name, personal fun quote, a menu bar and of course a series of artworks to peak the viewer’s interest. I decided on a colour scheme early on, which showcases the atmosphere of my art - which is colourful and positively loaded.

I recommend having multiple tabs available on your site. Above is my Illustration tab which shows my art in a chronological order. Make it easy to navigate and see for the viewer. Also, try to include short descriptions of each piece.

The second most important tab has to be the contact tab. Your viewers need to get in contact with easily otherwise there would be no point even creating a website in the first place. It can also be good to write about yourself - your education, cliental and academic and professional accomplishments.

I mostly use my website to refer possible clients and interested people, it gives them all the information they might need. It is simply said an online portfolio created to peak people’s interest enough to hire you.

But don’t stress too much about your setup and aesthetic, the most important aspect is always to promote your work . If you are in doubt, go for a simple black and white theme and let your art be the exclusive component.
