watching cheerleading videos to study how cheerleaders actually work their bodies when doing stunts (squad routines, elevator preps, flyer-base stunts) and my goodness..........

so like ik that cheerleading stuff isn't what mpgis actually focuses (they keep making fun of the fact that it's not a "real sport" and that they mostly just spell things with their hands and i mean, stop-motion animating barbies doing fucking backflips and cupies would be unbelievably hard to animate!!!!) but like now im really leaning into what their actual dynamic would be when they;re actually doing cheer practice

like obv mackenzie is the top of the pyramid so she'd be the flyer (she's the person who'd be in the air the most in a stunt) as she doesnt want to be anything less than the main attraction of the routine. her being dextrous and laser-focused on whatever she does (bitching people out or cheerleading) is already a given, but also she probs have the best balance out of all the girls and with a strong enough base, can do a successful cupie at her age. Her core strength would be INSANE and honestly, yeah she deserves to have abs

Brittnay is obvs strong asf, so i imagine she'd be a really strong base??? but also she's like flexible (she literally does splits on the ep she's introduced) and the fact she's in control of the microphone and the brawns of the squad, has the biggest stamina of them all. Acrobaddie who could do backbends for days but just doesnt wanna do it. i like to imagine that she's down to be base for mackenzie and can do partner stunts with her, but when the situation calls for it, she's an amazing flyer.

i also often hc Trisha being ditzy but actually one of the more graceful people of their teammates. ofc it's because i hc her as being tall and slim (second tallest to shay), and though not as powerful as brittnay or as focused as mack, i would imagine her to be the most dextrous of them when she's in practice. So altho at first you'd think she wouldn't be a good spotter, she'd have probably caught mackenzie from the air more than brittnay does. even if she can't swim, Trisha would have good body coordination and can do cartwheels from cheer practice.

Shay would obvs be a really good flyer, and altho she's tall, she'd probably be light enough to lift in the air like mackenzie (47KG!!???!!?!) and has learnt a lot from cameron's stunts (tho i dont think cameron was much of a healthy influence when it comes to cheerleading and body image sorry). but she probably hasnt practiced cheerleading as much as the cheer squad has when she joined, so she probably isn't as body-coordinated as the rest and 5 times out of 10 can't stick the landing from the air because of how vertically tall she is (possibly kicked the squad in the neck and face more times from practice than she admits due to how long her legs are). however, she's extremely observant and is equal to trisha when it comes to being an effective base. from s3 we can obviously infer that Shay has really good and sound judgment, and in contrast to mackenzie and brittnay's hotheadedness, her demeanor is cool and level-headed. so her delegations as cheersquad captain would be pretty reasonable (if her ego doesn't get in the way). so she would be a really good coordinator when coming up with routines i imagine, and secretly lets mack have top spot in the pyramid and be responsible for most of the air stunts since she internally knows she cant catch up with mackenzie's athleticness by this point

ANYWAYS that's what ive thought of so far, watch @/Its.ccaylee, @/danielbuyeskeon on youtube, and read a bunch of cheerleading information on google to see where tf the brainworms are coming from

people keep stereotyping cheerleading like theyre for meanly competitive people(and thats prolly true at some capacity idk im very not athletic so idk much dont take anything abt this seriously) but it really opened my eyes on how physically demanding it is and now i can fully appreciate what type of gymnastics actually goes into these stunts like WOW

how i feel about this character -

HOO BOY do i have feelings about this character. ofc Aziraphale is so loveable and wonderful & i do love him so much BUT he's complex in a way Crowley isn't. there's this bit of fic that sums it up really really well uhh here's the fic if anyone is wondering

he is so full of contradictions and thinking multiple things at once and mentally tying himself in knots to get himself to do things he Knows are the right thing to do (or even just. something he likes doing) which is such a fascinating thing to watch but also really heartbreaking if i think about it too much. like i love aziraphale and want to give him a big hug but also i want to argue with him sometimes. like in the 1827 minisode he is kinda a dick and absolutely zero-nuances the whole situation, but it's even worse because you can see exactly how he thinks what he's doing is right. i will defend his decision (key word decision!!) to go back to heaven forever because He Is Doing What He Thinks Is Right. he's also such a sweetheart, i too would like to live in a bookstore full of dusty old tomes & wear the same waistcoat for ~200 years.

Do you think given how Broadway contracts timeframes are more individual to the performer than in the West End where almost majority of shows have contracts end at the same time that it’ll be more likely that the 4 alternates in each of the US productions will likely stay consistent in their covers? For example, if Courtney is the first to leave of the Broadway alts I’d imagine it’s easier to cast someone who fills the B/H/P cover order than to re-juggle the order

So a few points.

I do think that could happen in some cases, but I also think they'll try to avoid it as much as possible. Ultimately they're going to want to prioritize actors' best roles, and while they might be able to find a perfect B/H/P this time, that won't be the case for every cover combo and every cast change. Instead, I think they'll try to minimize only having one alt leave at a time:

Broadway contracts in general are *definitely* more individual, but as of what we know about the current US Six casts it seems like their contracts are still more standardized lengths (or at least in groups with a few people's up at roughly the same time). "cannery row" by john steinbeck

finished: august 21, 2023

this is my third steinbeck novel, just following my recent read of "east of eden" and having read "of mice and men" in high school. this novel was cute with some moments, but unlike prior steinbeck novels i've read, the main plot was dialed down quite a bit, replaced with some vignettes on other (unrelated) characters tied to cannery row. on one hand, i kept picturing cannery row and the surrounding areas the entire time; it was really neat to get some "history" (albeit fictional, heh) of what life could have been like for early cannery row residents. having been a semi-frequent visitor of monterey bay my entire life, i've passed by this book littered over dozens of storefronts dozens of times. it's nice to take in the contents.

i liked the grocer, lee, and i think ironically once again he was probably the character i was rooting for most, though quite different than the "lee" in "east of eden." steinbeck seemed to handle the racial differences a bit more diplomatically in "east of eden," in "cannery row" lee almost seems like a characterized version of that idea. this has made me interested to see what criticisms exist of steinbeck's writing of ethnicities different from his own and if racial tensions exist. i feel similarly regarding the brothel bunch compared to "east of eden."

overall, this book described an area in its early developmental stages and the people who inhabited the area, who chose for one reason or another to reside and/or work in the "less well-off" part of town. there isn't much plot and when there is, i never found myself rooting for mack and the boys. they were sort of just stressful. definitely my least favorite steinbeck novel but not a terrible book, i guess.

rating: 5/10 thought it was fine, not bad but not something i would re-visit or recommend

In therapy, in the midst of trying to understand some things about myself, while I had no one else walking around in my head, I Intentionally imagined a young version of myself, to interact with for therapeutic reasons.

this younger self was about 6 years old, and wearing an easter dress I remember, and have pictures of myself wearing. This little me had paten leather shoes and little tights, and I found her dancing in a Theater.

On the screen in the theater, there were old, WW1 Propaganda cartoons playing. An old man was seated nearby, staring blankly at the screen.

I tried to get her to follow me, and that worked for a bit. We walked across the hall, and there was a showing of the First Top Gun movie.

I imagined another theater, playing "the Secret Garden", and tried to get her to come in with me, but she would not go.

I had a hard time over the next year getting her to leave the Theater.

I came to understand that this part of me was powerful. This was a part of me that had a lot to do with the mechanisms of my fear and self control. They were deeply involved in manufacturing safety.

Recently, when all the wild creatures that have lived in my mind showed back up, she emerged of her own will, and was willing to come into the Ski Lodge.

She talked with Kalok, who is a very protective creature, and has contributed greatly to my sense of confidence and safety in the past, and was even wearing a new fancy Christmas dress.

She is the part of me that identifies possibly threatening thoughts and behaviors, and sequesters them, separating them from the rest of me. It is an incredibly hard job. It requires Heavy Psychological powertools. Fear, Doubt, Guilt and Shame. Because she has to be able to separate some Wonderful things from me, sometimes, for my own good. She had to do it sometimes to keep those things safe, and/or because those things used to trigger a bad person to do bad things.

But the point of her job is to make me make safe decisions. She isn't Trying to hurt me. But ugh, the impact she has is like a Mack truck.

So my urge was to share the Pen with her.

The Pen is something I found in a Story I wrote. It used to be a sword. I stabbed one of my Alters with it once, Right in the Eye. It re-wrote him. I know that the power of the pen is simply to change my own story... To change myself.

I would like her to realize that I am no longer in danger. Or at least, not in danger any more than you regularly are in life. I would like her to be able to change how she responds to and identifies "threats" so I can put down the urge to separate myself from powerful emotions and "bad thoughts"

I am thinking of casting a spell to work on transitions for the parts of myself that have come back up. To be open to them, to be more incorporated and less separate. I think maybe it will help her to see that there are different levels of danger to things in life, and maybe a more nuanced approach to her skills could be used.

But Resisting is something we've been doing since the beginning. Resisting unfairness and being bad, and it is difficult to stop. So allowing these changes, in direct contradiction to her urge for safety is difficult. Everything is easier, better, smaller, safer when I behave.

But I am six raccoons and several frogs in a trenchcoat on a good day. Behaving, for me might look normal at a distance, but is a fraught prospect. Raccoons are Very Wiggly.
