foresstfox: hi, hope you don't mind a rando just jumping in here lol... in the book it's much clearer that maurice called out for alec, i think what really gives the movie that vibe is the choice of music for that scene, which i never understood tbh

first of all ur welcome on my posts anytime (ESP if it has to do w maurice) and yes that’s what i thought and you’re right, the music really does give it a weird vibe, which might be the reason my professor thought it was r/ape?

notquitesoancient: that thought never occurred to me and I never got that impression from the scene at all. It's very clearly consensual in the book and I don't think the movie does anything to change that? foresstfox is right about the music though, it's strangely sinister, but I always figured that was to do with where Maurice is at emotionally having just been to the hypnotist but then allowing himself to give in to his desires

it never occurred to me either and when my prof mentioned it i kind of just looked at him because ?? it IS consensual in the book. i think it really is the music that throws the whole scene off but i would agree that it’s more to do with the muddle in maurice’s brain about the hypnotist, etc.
