We have just been to Newlands Corner, Guildford, developing new routes for our Nature Therapy Walks. Our Nature Therapy Walks are mindful Walks in nature, including exercises to open up senses to the environment around, as well as mindfulness and meditation techniques to open up awareness and promote stress-relief and relaxation. Our next walk is this Saturday the 23rd of September from 2 to 5pm. £15 per person, 10% of the profit goes to Surrey Wildlife Trust. In Japanese there is a term, Shinrin-yoku, which means ‘forest bathing’ - spending time in the presence of trees. The term was coined in 1982 when forest bathing became part of Japan’s national health program. Millions of dollars have been spent in Japan to study the physiological and psychological effects of forest bathing, which have been shown to include lowering the heart rate and blood pressure, reducing stress hormone production, boosting the immune system and creating a sense of well being. To date, 47 ‘therapy trails’ have been created in Japan. No wonder we love the country so much! The tree in our video is on Meares Island, close to Tofino, BC.
