Team Canada roster chosen for World Junior Hockey Championship

Team Canada announced the final lineup for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship Monday.

The roster announcement comes after two exhibition games in Moncton, N.B., one of which took place earlier in the day.

Forward Zach Dean of Mount Pearl, N.L. is the only Atlantic Canadian player to make the team.

David Curtis seriously injured himself on the job as a truck driver 11 years ago, when the snowplow he was driving hit an open manhole in Oakville, Ont.

Now 66 years old, Curtis is currently pursuing a tribunal hearing with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act to get his medical benefits.

Curtis said that without help from Legal Aid Ontario, he’s looking at having to file personal bankruptcy due to exorbitant costs.

“We can’t afford it — we’ll end up going bankrupt…I need (Legal Aid Ontario),” Curtis, who’s from Freelton, Ont., told Global News.

“How can a physically disabled, significantly hearing impaired worker properly represent themselves?”

On Thursday afternoon, injured workers, legal aid advocates, relatives and representatives gathered at Attorney General Doug Downey’s constituency office in Barrie, Ont., to stage a teach-in to protest the funding cuts that were made to Legal Aid Ontario by the Doug Ford government.

New blog post up! I went to my favourite hidden treasure today and wanted to share it with you guys.

For those who appreciate local, non-superwash fibres....this may be for you! 😍 . All these skeins are 100% North country cheviot wool from my brother-in-laws farm outside of Ottawa Ontario. . It's extra special to me because I was there the day it was sheared. I skirted it, brought it home and washed it and then sent it to the Freelton fibre Mill just outside of Hamilton to be processed. Then, I dyed the yarn. ❤ . At present I have limited skeins of a 3-ply worsted weight 100% cheviot, which has a lovely squish and bounce to it. The last photo is a collage of a bunch of hats I made for the family from that yarn and all the hats were lovely! . There is also a limited selection of an interesting single ply thick/thin cheviot yarn available which ranges between bulky and worsted....would give an interesting texture to hats, cuffs, mittens. . As I say in my shop description: "Note... if you typically work with merino/cashmere/pure alpaca/etc you will find this yarn very different. It is a lovely worsted yarn with a heavier hand and slightly coarser feel. You will find bits of veggie matter (hay, grass) in the skeins.  Not a ton, but you will come across some as you work. These skeins were skeined at a small local wool mill.  They do have some slight imperfections but to me that just adds to character of the skeins and the yarn!" .
