In the world of fashion, there’s a certain allure attached to ethnic wear. The vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and rich cultural heritage behind each piece make ethnic fashion timeless. Today, the fashion industry has embraced the fusion of tradition and modernity, resulting in stunning ethnic new arrivals that capture the essence of both worlds.
The Rise of Ethnic Fashion
Ethnic fashion has been on a steady rise, not just in countries where these traditions originated but globally. People from different backgrounds have started appreciating the beauty of ethnic wear. This appreciation has led to a surge in demand for ethnic outfits that blend traditional elements with contemporary styles.
The charm of ethnic wear lies in its ability to tell a story. Each garment reflects a piece of history, culture, and craftsmanship. With every ethnic new arrival, designers bring fresh perspectives while honoring age-old traditions. This balance is what makes ethnic fashion so appealing.
The Influence of Modern Trends
Modern trends have significantly influenced ethnic fashion. Designers are now experimenting with fabrics, colors, and silhouettes that appeal to the modern consumer. For instance, traditional sarees and lehengas are being reimagined with modern cuts and minimalistic designs. This fusion allows ethnic wear to be versatile, catering to both casual and formal occasions.
One of the most noticeable trends is the use of sustainable materials. With a growing emphasis on sustainability in fashion, ethnic new arrivals are now crafted from eco-friendly fabrics. This shift not only helps the environment but also adds a contemporary touch to traditional attire.
Ethnic Wear in Everyday Fashion
Ethnic wear is no longer reserved for special occasions. With the evolving fashion landscape, ethnic outfits have become a part of everyday wardrobes. From office wear to casual outings, ethnic new arrivals offer a range of options that are both stylish and comfortable.
The key to incorporating ethnic wear into daily fashion lies in mix-and-match. Pairing a traditional kurti with jeans or wearing a classic saree with a modern blouse creates a unique look that stands out. This blend of styles allows individuals to express their personality while staying rooted in tradition.
Celebrating Cultural Heritage
Ethnic new arrival s play a crucial role in celebrating and preserving cultural heritage. They serve as a reminder of the rich history and traditions that have been passed down through generations. By wearing ethnic outfits, individuals not only honor their own culture but also share it with the world.
Cultural festivals and weddings are perfect occasions to showcase ethnic fashion. These events provide an opportunity to dress in elaborate ethnic wear, complete with traditional jewelry and accessories. The vibrant colors and intricate designs of ethnic outfits add to the festive spirit, making these celebrations even more special.
The Role of Technology
Technology has played a significant role in the evolution of ethnic fashion. With advancements in textile technology, designers can now create intricate patterns and designs with precision. Digital printing and embroidery machines have revolutionized the way ethnic outfits are made, allowing for more creativity and innovation.
Online shopping platforms have also contributed to the popularity of ethnic new arrivals. Consumers can now browse through a wide range of ethnic wear from the comfort of their homes. This convenience has made ethnic fashion more accessible to a global audience, further increasing its appeal.
Tumblr media
The Global Appeal
Ethnic fashion has a universal appeal that transcends cultural boundaries. The beauty of ethnic wear lies in its diversity. Each region has its own unique style, from the vibrant sarees of India to the elegant kimonos of Japan. This diversity adds to the richness of ethnic fashion, offering endless possibilities for fashion enthusiasts.
The global appeal of ethnic wear is evident in fashion shows and international events. Designers from around the world showcase their ethnic new arrivals on global platforms, garnering attention and appreciation from a diverse audience. This exposure has led to a greater understanding and appreciation of different cultures.

Ethnic new arrivals offer a wide range of choices, allowing individuals to find outfits that resonate with their taste. Whether it's a classic saree or a modern fusion dress, ethnic wear provides endless opportunities to express individuality.
Accessories play a crucial role in enhancing ethnic outfits. Traditional jewelry, such as jhumkas, bangles, and necklaces, adds a touch of elegance to any ethnic attire. Modern accessories, like statement belts and contemporary handbags, can also be paired with ethnic outfits to create a unique look.
The Future of Ethnic Fashion
The future of ethnic new arival fashion looks promising. As designers continue to innovate and experiment, we can expect to see even more stunning ethnic new arrivals. The fusion of tradition and modernity will continue to evolve, resulting in outfits that are both timeless and trendy.

5 Office-wears Any Indian Woman Should Have
The South Asian countries mostly experience humid weather throughout the year until November arrives and by the middle of March again the scorching summer season sets in causing immense discomfort to the dwellers. Though many working women prefer wearing western wear these days whether shirts combined with trousers, jackets, and so on, the trend of slipping into traditional cotton wear is still the favorite office wear for most Indian women. Unless your workplace rules don’t allow you to wear ethnic clothes then you can easily upgrade your Indian wear collections of co ord kurta set to indigo salwar sets to comfortably mix and match them as office wear.
Here are the top five office wears that any Indian woman should have in their collection—
Variants of co-ord sets
This is the exact time when the trend of wearing co-ord sets is much in vogue. Even people are found wearing the twin top and pants/skirts/palazzos for their office despite creating ripples among the casual category for quite some time. Shop for cotton hand block print kurta with their twin palazzos to beat the Indian summer without losing the sass!
Indigo kurta is still in vogue
For the past few years, the trend of wearing an indigo kurta with a cotton pant or jeans is still dominating the Indian fashion markets. Despite keeping a habit of wearing trousers with shirts and a nice jacket at your office, you can enhance your ethnic beauty by wearing a uniquely designed 100% pure cotton-dyed indigo kurti. This shade of blue is ideal for office wear.
Buy a pair of cigarette pants or a cotton trouser to pair up with the kurti. Otherwise, go a step ahead by picking up a black or red skirt at the bottom along with a dupatta to compliment the whole look. With the right selection of accessories from jewelry to bags and shoes- you can easily create your fashion statement.
Opt for bandhani dresses & Anarkali sets
Besides ajrakh, indigo, or Madhubani prints- you can also make a collection of bandhani dresses and Anarkali dresses. Custom-made designer maxi dress with angrakha pattern for semi-casual Fridays at workplace. Wear a beautiful boot with the dress to nail the look.
Wearing an exclusive kurta of bandhani designs whether on cotton or silk will give you a feel of touching the roots where some women in a remote village in Gujarat have designed the duapatta or bandhani fabric so that smart women like you can think out of the box and create fashionable dresses from them.
A collection of cotton pants, palazzos, & dupatta
As office-goers know the pain of wearing the same clothes every now and then- you can shop for a couple of bottoms of various kinds. From cotton pants to palazzos and ajrakh dupatta- you should be ready to mix and match the kurtas with these bottoms to add freshness.
Buy trending long skirts with ethnic tops as work wear
Your collections must also have a few long skirts with ethnic tops. Stylish Indian women nicely carry this combination at their workplace!

Hello! I would like to request a 73 or a 112 with Ginodi please and thank you!💕
Thank you so much for the prompts, dear anon. I wrote a ficlet for nr. 73 because it turned out I already wrote a Ginodi-fic for nr. 112!!! It's from another prompt-list I reblogged sometime in Januar, and when I saw the prompt it immediately came back. XD
You can read it here: i’ve never seen anyone look so cute and ridiculous at the same time, and the best @ticiie (🧡) in the world translated it into German here.
Now prompt nr. 73 was quite a challenge. 😅 I just can't imagine Odi and Gino being so angry with each other to the point of calling each other names but I tried, and I hope you like it.
"Stop being a fucking prick!"
Never again Marco would take the absence of wind for granted. Even now, after two weeks, he was still glad to be back from China. He stepped out into the fresh air, and took a deep breath. It was cold, yes, but the usual cold, the one he was used to; not the kind that forced its way under every piece of clothing, and made his head feel as if he had eaten ice cream too fast.
He looked out over the Austrian mountains that rose high into the sky. Even though it was almost mid-morning, the sun was only reaching halfway down into the valley, and the hotel lay still frozen in the shadows. Through the windows he saw Chris sitting in the breakfast hall, deeply immersed in his second cup of coffee and the newspaper. Marco checked his phone again, just to be sure, and waited. Soft humming sounded through the trees, the noise of the cars driving through the valley, Germans and Dutch and English on holidays, all aiming for the slopes and tracks on the mountains. After a few minutes, something interrupted the constant noise, another engine that had left the main street, and was now coming closer. Justin honked as he screeched to a halt right in front of the entrance, and jumped out of the car.
"So warm," he sighed, and stretched his limbs after the long drive before he pulled Marco in a hug.
"Welcome," Marco said, and patted Justin on the back. His hair was still atrociously red, though the roots were beginning to shine through. Loïc appeared from the other side of the car. Marco only needed one look to see that underneath his neutral expression he was seething.
"When did you leave Silvaplana?" Marco asked.
Justin checked his watch. "Two hours and twelve minutes ago," he announced proudly. "New personal best."
Loïc's expression turned even more neutral and he stomped to the back of the car where he began to pull out bags and suitcases with almost excessive force. Marco smiled, and opened the side-door of the car.
"Hey!"
Gino hastily closed his phone and slid it into the pocket of his coat. "Hey!" he said, and climbed out, right into Marco's arms.
Marco kissed him tenderly. "I've missed you," he whispered.
Gino buried his face in Marco's neck. "I missed you too." He smiled at Marco, and combed his hair back with his fingers. "My champion."
They carried the bags inside, checked into their rooms, and changed into their gear for a first training. Only then did the bus with the coaches arrive at the hotel.
"JUSTIN!" Kurti bellowed, and flew past Marco without sparing him a glance.
Marco laughed, and turned around. "Did he steal the keys? Or why did you let him drive?"
Gino flinched, as if he had been pulled out of deep thoughts. He shrugged. "I didn't really care", he muttered.
After Justin had been scolded appropriately, which as always left no impression on him, they were finally allowed to go skiing. Justin gave Marco a play-by-play about everything that had happened after he had left Beijing, sometimes interrupted by Loïc, while Gino looked out of the scratched windows of the gondola down onto the mountain. Marco slid closer until he could rest his chin on Gino's shoulder.
"The first time I was skiing on our snow after I came back, I almost wept," he confessed, and smiled at his boyfriend.
Gino smiled back absent-mindedly, and scooted closer to the window, away from Marco's touch. "I can imagine. Can't say I'm going to miss Yanqing."
Marco frowned slightly, and stroked Gino's thigh. "Everything okay?"
Gino nodded, still smiling. "Just feeling the jetlag," he explained.
They sped down their private slope, the one reserved for the better-paying customers, until the coaches had prepared the timers for a short course. Marco went first, whipping around the gates with ease, and waited at the end.
"Ha ha!" Justin mocked Marco when he realised that he had been faster, and left for the chairlift without waiting for the rest. Gino came last, with more than a second behind.
"At first it felt really strange," Marco began when they sat together on the floating chair. "Like I was glued to the ground. Even though I knew it was as always."
Gino did not budge, his eyes fixated on the few white clouds above the horizon.
"Gino!"
He flinched. "What? Sorry! I was thinking."
"About what?"
Gino shrugged. "Just…things."
Marco cocked his head. "You're really weird today."
Gino shook his head. "I'm sorry. It's just the…"
"Jetlag, I know," Marco finished for him.
Gino chuckled, and leant his head against the armrest, eyes closed and nose poking at the sun. Hannes gave them a few tips for the second run, and one after the other they raced down again.
"Do you still have the old wax on?" Marco asked during their second ascent.
Gino blinked, tearing his eyes away from the view. "What?"
"Because you're kind of slow today," Marco explained. "Is it the wax?"
Gino stared down at his skis that were dangling in free air, high above the ground. "Don't know," he said. "Maybe." If he saw the pensive look Marco shot him, he ignored it.
"Well done, Marco," Hannes said once they were at the start gate again. "Let's do this again. Gino, you need get closer to the gates. Try to follow the line."
The third ride was spent in complete silence, with Marco getting more and more worried. He glided over to Chris who was waiting with another pair of skis to try out. Gino stood near the starting gate, propped up on his sticks, and looked out over the slope. Chris dove into one of his lengthy explanations, and Marco could not hear what Hannes was saying.
"Well you're helping fuck-all!" Gino suddenly yelled. Chris and Marco whirled around.
Hannes threw Gino a hard look but chose to ignore his outburst. "You're not listening to me. You haven't even tried to…"
"That's because your advice is shit! There's nothing to listen to!"
"Gino!" Renzo exclaimed.
"Okay, that's it!" Hannes said, and turned away. He walked over to the pile of backpacks spread out on a plastic sheet, grabbed one, and threw it towards Gino. "Go! Your training is over!"
"Hannes!" Marco tried, and picked the backpack out of the snow.
"No discussion!" Hannes growled.
"He didn't mean it…"
"Of course I did!" Gino yelled. Marco's mouth shut, and he looked at him with wide eyes. Gino pushed his sticks into the ground, slid over, and yanked the backpack out of Marco's hands. He was livid, red-hot anger shining in his eyes.
"What's your problem today?" Marco asked incredulously.
"You're the problem!" Gino spit. "You and your stupid questions! Why are you so slow Gino? How come you're so far away from the gates Gino? How, who, why, why, why Gino? Can you maybe stop being a fucking prick?"
Nobody said anything when Gino turned away, and raced down the mountain. He had disappeared in the forest, down the path that led into the valley, when Marco shook himself, and hurried over to where his skis were lined up.
"Don't!" Chris said, and put a hand on Marco's shoulder.
"But…"
Chris shook his head, and Marco acquiesced. With hanging shoulders he stared on the ground.
---
The sun had left the valley again when they returned to the hotel, exhausted not just from the training. Marco brought his skis and boots down into the cellar where Chris had spread out his things, and without a detour to his own room, he went to see Gino. To his surprise, the door was not closed, the sleeve of a jacket pressed between frame and door. Carefully he pushed the door open, and stepped inside. Clothes were strewn on the floor, and ski boots had been thrown into a corner. Marco pushed the jacket back, and closed the door with a click. Gino lay still on the bed, with his back towards Marco, one arm under his head. Slowly, Marco walked around the bed, and laid down next to him. The bed was small, and their faces almost touched. Gino still did not budge. His eyes, red-rimmed, the lashes still wet from tears, saw nothing. Marco looked at him, and waited.
"They're throwing Mauro out of the team for next season," Gino eventually began. "They say he's not making enough progress."
Marco's heart clenched. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"It's just so unfair," Gino said as new tears welled up in his eyes. "You give everything, year after year, and in the end they throw you away like a piece of trash. In the end, nothing you do will ever be good enough."
Marco leant forward, until their foreheads touched, and grabbed Gino's free hand, stroking it with his thumb until his tears subsided.
"How long have you known?"
"Last week."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Gino took a deep breath, almost a sigh, and finally looked Marco in the eyes. "I didn't want to disturb you. You were supposed to rest for the end of the season. You can't get distracted now."
Marco snorted softly, and kissed Gino. "I rested enough. And I'm your boyfriend, not just a random guy."
"I know…"
"You don't need to bottle this stuff. You have me."
Gino smiled, pulled his hand out from under his head, and wiped the tears away. "Is Hannes very angry?"
Marco nodded. This time, Gino sighed for real.
"We can stay a bit longer," Marco suggested. "He'll be here for a few days."
Gino laughed softly. "Okay." His smile was still tinged with sadness. "Sorry I called you a prick."
Marco shrugged with the one shoulder he was not lying on. "Eh, sometimes I am one."
"But not today."
They kissed again, and Marco's hand wandered over Gino's body. He could not take away Gino's sadness, and he could not carry it for him. But he would do anything to make it lighter for him.

Upcoming Horror Movies in September 2020: Theaters, Streaming, and VOD
https://ift.tt/2DAWlXd
As our esteemed Film Editor David Crow has said elsewhere, movies are back — but in a sense they’ve never really gone away. New original films have been popping up via streaming and video-on-demand all throughout the reign of the coronavirus, and they continue to do so even as theaters begin to reopen and the studios slowly start to fill them with new releases as well.
The operative word here is “slow”: we’re not seeing a deluge of new films anywhere — the big or small screen — but there is a steady flow of them nonetheless, and as is often the case, horror leads the way. Below is a round-up of fresh horror releases coming your way (or there already) in the US and UK, available either at your local multiplex (and we urge you to keep the risks of going to the theater in mind) or right in your living room. Hopefully, unlike the real world, some of the scares below are fun.
20th Century Studios
The New Mutants
Out in theaters now in the US and UK
Yes, technically, The New Mutants is an X-Men movie and the last entry in what was once 20th Century Fox’s (RIP) extended Marvel X-Men Universe. But director Josh Boone set out to place his young mutants in a horror setting, and while reviews are mixed, comparisons to A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors have been tossed around. It arrived in US theaters on August 28 and in the UK just this past weekend.
RLJE Films
The Owners
Out now on VOD
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams not only toplines The New Mutants but she also stars here as the girlfriend of a trio of lads who decide to rob the home of a wealthy doctor (one-time Doctor Who Time Lord Sylvester McCoy) and his wife (Rita Tushingham). Once the young scoundrels get inside the house, however, the seemingly doddering couple apparently prove to have some hidden, deadly talents. We’re getting a Don’t Breathe vibe from this original thriller by first-time feature director Julius Berg.
Dark Star Pictures
Koko-Di, Koko-Da
Streaming in the UK on September 7
As a shattered couple still reeling from the loss of their little daughter embark on a camping trip that takes them into a horrific time loop/killing box, they find themselves at the mercy of demonic fairy tale-like beings — the very manifestation of their grief, tormenting them over and over again in nightmarishly surreal fashion. We saw this Danish/Swedish co-production last year and were rattled by its combination of spine-chilling imagery, sadistic terror and parental loss.
Signature Entertainment
Two Heads Creek
On VOD in the UK from September 7
Following the death of their adoptive mother, a shy butcher (Stephen Hunter from the Hobbit trilogy) and his overly dramatic sister (All is True’s Kathryn Wilder) journey to Australia to find their real mom. Their quest leads them to the small, delightfully named town of Two Heads Creek, where the siblings make it just in time for dinner. Hey, we can always use a good cannibal horror-comedy at a time when one wonders if the food supply chain is going to break down anytime soon…
Dark Star Pictures
Entwined
Out in the US via VOD on September 8
Panos (Prometheus Aleifer), a city doctor, relocates his practice to a remote village and quickly falls for Danae (Anastasia Rafaella Konidi), who lives in isolation with a mysterious skin condition. Determined to find Danae a cure, Panos discovers her dark secret and that all — surprise, surprise — is not what it seems. A folk horror tale steeped in local mythology from first-time feature director Minos Nikolakakis.

Movies
The Best Horror Movies to Watch on Shudder
By Rosie Fletcher
IFC Midnight
Rent-A-Pal
In select theaters and VOD on September 11
Wesley Crusher is back! Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) stars in this satirical thriller, in which a lonely bachelor named David (Brian Landis Folkins), tasked with caring for his elderly mother but desperate for companionship, discovers a strange VHS tape (this is set in 1990) called Rent-A-Pal. The host is the “charming and charismatic” Andy (Wheaton), whose friendship comes at a chilling cost. Does that include watching infamous TNG episodes like “The Game” and “The Dauphin”?
Shudder
Spiral
Available for streaming on Shudder on September 17
Described by Wicked Horror as the most “intelligently conceived take on queer horror…to date,” Spiral stars Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Ari Cohen as a couple who move to a small town in an effort to find a better quality of life for themselves and their 16-year-old daughter. But despite a nice welcome from the neighbors, nothing is what it seems and sinister forces gather against the two men. Kurtis David Harder directs this genre exploration of societal rejection, ostracization and hate (this is not related, by the way, to the Saw spin-off/sequel still awaiting release).
Vertical Entertainment
No Escape aka Follow Me (UK)
Available on VOD and in theaters in the US on September 18
A social media star (Keegan Allen) and his friends head to Moscow for their latest online stunt, but soon find themselves the victims of grisly, livestreamed tortures inside a hidden chamber of horrors. We detect whiffs of Saw, Hostel and, yes, Escape Room here. Oddly enough, director Will Wernick made a movie called Escape Room in 2017 — not to be confused with the 2019 horror hit of the same name. This one sounds like it’s for fans of watching loud, obnoxious young people die in painful agony.
Magnet
Alone
Available on VOD and in theaters in the US on September 18
John Hyams (who helmed the last two Universal Soldier movies and is the son of 2010 director Peter Hyams) directs this thriller starring Jules Willcox (Netflix’s Bloodline). The latter plays Jessica, a grief-stricken widow who leaves the city and heads into the countryside to cope with the loss of her husband.  But things take a turn for the worse when she is kidnapped and locked in a cabin in the Pacific Northwest by a mysterious man, who pursues her after she escapes into the wilderness. We’re sure there’s a twist or two in there somewhere to keep viewers on their toes…
Matt Kennedy/Lionsgate
Antebellum
Available on VOD in the US on September 18
Originally scheduled for theatrical release earlier this year, Antebellum has been the source of speculation around its mysterious time travel plot and provocative concept of putting modern woman Janelle Monae back into the Deep South in the mid-1800s. Positioned as a genre take on racism in the vein of recent successes like Get Out and Us, Antebellum has sadly lost some momentum due to weak advance reviews; but we still want to see it ourselves, mainly for Monae and to see how directors Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz pull off the film’s secretive twists.

Fast Forward
Chapter 11
You’d taken half the day off work so you could get up to the hospital and see your Dad as soon as you could. With the week ahead booked off as well it only left you with 2 days holiday for the rest of the year and you’d scheduled those in early, grabbing the days around Christmas so you could have plenty of time to spend with Taron and his family. It was something you were really looking forward to and knowing it was on the horizon would get you through the 5 day working weeks you’d have to endure. It wasn’t anyone’s fault that your Dad was ill, but you were thankful you still had the time left to take off work. Some of it would be spent relaxing on the sofa watching films, you were sure you could grab a lie-in or three and you didn’t have to spend a single minute thinking about work so it was still close enough to getting away somewhere for a proper holiday. You even thought you might get chance to do a bit of research towards a foreign holiday for you and Taron next year to make up for it.
The daydreams of sunnier weather were put on hold once you’d arrived at the hospital. That sickening smell brought back all the fear and nerves and made you want to leave immediately but you forced your feet to continue down the corridor so you could join your mum in the small room she’d been waiting in all day. Your Dad was due out of theatre roughly when your train had arrived, but he’d still not been brought back to his room from the recovery ward. Instead there was a bleak gap between the chairs where his bed should have been.
“Hey.” You greeted your Mum softly.
“I got my hopes up then when the door opened,” she sighed, “No one’s been in to tell me anything since they took him off at 8am!”
“Do you want me to go and find someone to ask what’s happening?”
“No, no. They’re all busy doing proper work and don’t need us slowing them down. I’m sure they’ll bring him back soon.” She tried to smile but you could see the fear in her eyes from thinking something must have gone wrong. “I will go and stretch my legs and get a coffee now you’re here. Do you want one?”
“Yes, thanks.”
As your Mum left the room you spotted her book on the side table, the pages well thumbed through and corners still bent over to mark her places. It was the same title that Julie had mentioned in the tea-room last weekend, so you picked it up with intrigue and read the back cover. It was a psychological thriller set between a mother, daughter and son-in-law-to-be and you rolled your eyes imagining how she must be picturing the same dynamic in the mirror of her own life. Perhaps she’d projected some of the negativity from the book onto Taron without realising it? You didn’t get a chance to read through any of the chapters before the doors were being held back by two nurses and a porter wheeled your Dad in his bed back into the centre of the room. He was quickly hooked up to a drip and a monitor, and then the room emptied out of hospital staff before you’d had chance to ask them anything. His hand felt chilly as you placed yours over the top and watched closely as he started to wake up.
“Jane?” He croaked out quietly.
“No, it’s Y/N.” You replied before picking up the glass of water on the tray at the end of his bed and moving the straw into place so he could take a sip.
“Y/N.” He smiled softly. “Even better. Thanks, love.”
“How are you doing?”
“Where’s Taron?” He frowned as he slowly looked to the empty chair on the other side of the bed.
“He’s at work, he’s staying in London this time so you’ve only got me this week.”
“Oh no. I knew Jane would upset him. I told her!”
“Dad, it’s fine, he’s alright about it. You don’t need to worry about us anyway, focus on you!”
“Oh I’m fine.” He shook his head before coughing slightly and then wincing in pain. “Well I will be.” You placed a kiss to the back of his hand before giving him another drink just as your Mum got back with two coffees in hand. She was quick to place them down and take your Dad into a long but gentle hug as she placed a kiss to his forehead.
“I was getting worried.”
“Not you as well.” He rolled his eyes. “Making me wonder what’s happened to this family with all the worrying and sympathy and time spent together in the same room!”
“I can go.” You joked as you pointed to the door and went to stand up.
“Don’t you dare!” You Mum snapped back before apologising just as quickly. “Sorry, stress.”
The conversation tiptoed across eggshells, often landing in spots of lengthy silence as you did your best not to wind each other up. Before long you needed a break so offered to go and buy some food, taking in some fresh air as you walked down the road towards the nearest takeaway shop. It was only then that you checked your phone and switched it off silent, opening up a serious of messages from Taron who seemed to have had an entirely one-sided conversation with himself since he left work.
“You’re easily amused.” You teased him as he answered your call almost immediately.
“What happened to having your phone on you at all times?”
“I will when I’m not sat in the hospital!”
“Good. So you’re back at home now?”
“Not yet, just walking up to the chippy. Visiting ends at about half 8 tonight I think.”
“Have they said how long they’re keeping him in for?”
“Not yet, I guess it depends how he is over night. Hopefully they’ll let him out at some point tomorrow. He’s making a few jokes though so he’s getting there already.”
“That’s brilliant.”
“Hold on 2 minutes while I order.” You paused your conversation and held your phone by your side as you ordered a selection of bits for your Dad to pick at, knowing you’d eat anything that was left over, and then paid. “Right, I’m back.”
“What are you having?”
“Guess? I’d give you 3 guesses, but I know you’ll only need one.”
“If you’re not having cheesy chips then you’re no longer my girlfriend.” He replied nonchalantly.
“Brutal!”
“But I’m not a single man, so I’m right, aren’t I?”
“The world is still turning, I am still your girlfriend, and when I hang up I will be sending you a photo to make you jealous.”
“God I hate and love you so much at the same time.”
“The feeling’s mutual.” You laughed. “So what are you up to?”
“Re-heating last night’s leftovers and then I was thinking of meeting the boys in the pub, that’s if you’re okay though.”
“I’m fine, it’s all good here so you should definitely go and see them.”
“Sure? I can stay in so we can facetime later if you want.”
“No, you go. I was planning on having a bath and an early night so we’ll facetime tomorrow night.”
“Facetime me from the bath anyway?” He asked cheekily.
“No! You’ll be in the middle of the pub!” You hissed back, suddenly conscious of the people around you who were also waiting for their orders.
“Mean. But it was worth a shot. We’ll save that for when we really really miss each other.”
“Tomorrow then.” You laughed. “Ah my chips are ready so I’ve got to go, I’ll text you later.”
“Enjoy!” Taron ended the call cheerily and you couldn’t hold back the smile on your face as you made your way back to the hospital. It didn’t budge an inch as you sat eating your cheesy chips, thinking back to that rainy night where Taron first offered you one, and then his hoodie and sofa for the night. Things would be so different now if you’d not forgotten your keys.
You were snatched away from that happy place when a doctor entered the room, initially smiling down at the array of unhealthy food you’d snuck in to the hospital before he composed himself and looked deadly serious.
“Sorry to break up this delicious smelling feast, but I wanted to come and see you as soon as I could. The operation this morning went well, and we removed the tumour without too much of a struggle, so Michael will heal up as expected. The one thing we hadn’t expected, based off the initial biopsy, was the full range of cells contained within the tumour. We inspect everything closely, more for research than anything else, but it has meant that we have had to reverse our initial observations on the tumour being benign.”
“What do you mean?” Your Mum asked quickly.
“There are traces of cancer cells within the tumour that we’ve removed.”
“But they’re out, so it’s ok?” Your Dad tried to clarify.
“Yes, for the most part. Obviously we can’t be 100% certain that we’ve managed to remove all the traces, and based on the size of the tumour there’s a fair chance the cancer could have started to spread before we got to it.”
“How will we know?”
“I have put an urgent referral through to oncology for you and you’ll be taken for more scans and reassessed. It could be that, in time, you are set on a course of chemotherapy to essentially lower the risk of anything else developing but oncology will be able to explain all of that in more detail for you. I’m sorry it’s not better news, but I’m confident we’ve removed everything we needed to and that’s the best starting place with this.”
Starting place. You sighed as you continued to stare at the speckled blue and grey floor between your feet. Just as you thought the worst part was over the next, bigger, hurdle is there to be jumped and the weight has descended straight back onto your shoulders.
