🐗🐆 My parents and I are just now in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We flew out of Nashville and had a five hour layover in Orlando. To pass the time, I did some sketching in a sketchbook I brought with me. My sketchbook drawings, for now, consist of pencil and Sharpie drawings of Bagheera from “The Jungle Book” and Pumbaa from “The Lion King”. More will follow in my free time for more drawings.

A 5-year-old boy who had to miss his kindergarten graduation received a surprise ceremony during a flight from Orlando, Florida, to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Xavier, dressed in a red cap and gown, walked down the plane aisle after a flight attendant introduced him as "Pomp and Circumstance" played over the public address system.
"He was just beyond excited, like his face lit up," Xavier's mom, Janeiry Rivas, told "Good Morning America." "He was super super excited, getting high fives from people and getting cheered on."
This is so wholesome đŸ„Č

notable players: Marta, Barbra Banda, rafaelle, ally watt
Portland thorns: if you like soccer dynasties. traditionally one of the most successful teams in the nwsl with a lot of local support, the h th orbs struggled in the first few games with their worst start to the season ever. notable players: Trinity Rodman, Croix Bethune, Casey Kruger, Andi Sullivan, Ashley Hatch, Hal Hershfelt

Honduras Anti-Gang Crackdown Targets Only One Source of Violence
The Honduran government is intensifying its anti-gang crackdown following recent outbursts of criminal violence, but its one-size-fits-all response fails to acknowledge the variety of organized crime dynamics at play.
President Xiomara Castro announced new security measures on June 22 and June 25, bolstering a state of exception in place since December 2022 that aims to curb gang violence and extortion.
The government put the military police in charge of the prisons and implemented curfews in Choloma and San Pedro Sula, the two largest cities after the capital Tegucigalpa.
Rafael Sarmiento, head of Castro’s party in Congress, also vowed to legally designate all gang members as terrorists.
The new measures followed two incidents of mass violence that police blamed on gangs.
Most recently, armed men dressed as police murdered 13 people, including four union workers from a soon-to-be-shuttered factory, on June 24 at a pool hall in Choloma.
The Choloma massacre came days after 48 died in a riot on June 20 at the country’s only all-women prison. Alleged Barrio 18 gang members set fire to a wing housing prisoners from the rival MS13 gang, and fired guns at other women, not all of whom were gang members.
The government’s single-minded focus on gangs targets only one source of violence caused by organized crime in Honduras.
For example, the days between the prison riot and the pool hall massacre saw the apparently targeted murder of a possible witness in a high-profile drug trafficking investigation. Men dressed as police officers on June 22 shot dead Ericka Julissa Bandy García, the wife of a murdered drug trafficker alleged to have worked with former President Juan Orlando Hernåndez, who is currently facing drug trafficking charges in the United States.
By solely blaming gangs for Honduras’ violence, the government ignores the role of other actors, like drug trafficking organizations and corruption networks.
Honduras' government has seemed to draw inspiration from neighboring El Salvador, where an indiscriminate anti-gang crackdown has generated human rights complaints but also widespread acknowledgment that it has majorly disrupted gang activities and curtailed violence.
But the application of an El Salvador-style security strategy in Honduras has thus far failed to significantly curtail crime because of the countries’ differing criminal dynamics, Jennifer Ávila, director of Honduran news site Contracorriente, told
In Honduras, "drug cartels play a fundamental role in territorial control, in the control of other crimes and in the politics of the country itself,” she said. “It is totally simplistic to copy [Salvadoran President Nayib] Bukele's propaganda of the 'iron fist' or 'war' against the gangs when in Honduras the criminal structures are more complex and diverse."
Despite El Salvador’s success in reducing crime, critics have argued the crackdown’s economic cost makes it unsustainable, and the failure to match it with programs targeting the root causes of crime, such as poverty, could lead to a rebirth of criminal structures. Honduras’ government’s mimicking of this model means adopting the same flaws. So even if ramping up security measures produces immediate results, the long-term effects may prove limited.

Climate change is a threat to the planet: We must address it
We can still avoid the worst impacts of climate change, save money, and make our energy grid more resilient
By Sen. Bernie Sanders
Obviously, climate change is not real. I’ve heard, you’ve heard, "expert" after "expert" telling us for years how climate change is a "fraud."
We’ve heard from our friends at the oil companies who made $196 billion in profits last year that the evidence for it is "inconclusive." We’ve listened to politicians and pundits explain how proponents of climate change are engaged in "fake news," are part of a "woke conspiracy" or pushing "cult-like" propaganda.
We’ve also heard that, perhaps, if the planet is warming it is part of some kind of natural occurrence which has nothing to do with human activity and the burning of fossil fuel.
What more can be said? Climate change is not real. Or, if it is, it has nothing to do with carbon emissions – and there is nothing we can do about it.
If this is what you believe I would respectfully disagree and I would urge you to get on the phone and call friends and family around the country to hear about what their communities are experiencing. I would also suggest that you check out (reliable) websites and take a look at what’s going on in virtually every part of the world. If you do, here’s what you’ll find.
The last eight years have been the eight hottest on record. This year is on track to be the hottest year in recorded history, and this past July was the hottest month in recorded history. Twenty-one of the 30 hottest days on record occurred this past month.
Across the United States, July broke more than 3,200 daily temperature records. Miami experienced its seven hottest days. Flagstaff, Arizona, and Brownsville, Texas, experienced their eight hottest days. At least 26 cities broke or tied their previous daily temperature records three or more times. Death Valley experienced the highest midnight temperature ever recorded on Earth.
Austin, San Antonio, Little Rock, Baton Rouge, Anaheim, Rapid City, Santa Fe, St. Paul, Corpus Christi, Sioux Falls, Fort Lauderdale, Reno, Helena, Grand Junction, Salt Lake City, San Juan, Tampa, Orlando, Fort Worth, Carson City, Portland – all of these cities experienced their highest temperatures on record.
It wasn’t just daily records. Phoenix recently experienced 31 days in a row at or above 110 degrees. El Paso experienced 44 days in a row at or above 100 degrees. Miami experienced a record 46 days at or above 100 degrees. Austin experienced a record 11 days at or above 105 degrees. Waco experienced a record 44 days at or above 100 degrees. Las Vegas experienced its hottest two weeks on record.
And it’s not just the United States. Dozens of locations in China experienced record-high temperatures last month, including the country’s all-time temperature record of 126 degrees. Rome, Cannes, Palermo, Tunis, Algiers, Tirana, Figueres – all of these cities across Europe and North Africa experienced their hottest days on record.
Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador – all saw multiple temperature records broken. Parts of the Middle East exceeded 150 degrees – near the most intense heat that the human body can survive. It’s winter right now in South America, but that hasn’t stopped temperatures from exceeding 100 degrees in some places.
And it’s not just that temperatures have been soaring on land. Our oceans have never been warmer. Right now, 44% of the world’s oceans are experiencing a marine heat wave. The Mediterranean Sea is experiencing its hottest temperatures on record, more than 9 degrees hotter than average in some places. South of Miami, waters reached 101 degrees. You’re supposed to find temperatures like that in a hot tub, not the ocean.
OK, so it’s hot. But how do we know this heat is so unusual? Couldn’t this just be part of a natural cycle going back millions of years? Is there really a link between extreme heat and human activity?
It is true that the Earth’s temperature does change a lot over millions of years. In fact, scientists believe that about 125,000 years ago it may have been even warmer than it is right now. What is disturbing, however, is that temperatures are rising much faster now than at any time in the past two million years.
Scientists look at a lot of things – gas trapped in ice, tree rings, glaciers, pollen remains, even changes in the Earth’s orbit – to study the natural changes in our climate going back millions of years. What these natural changes tell us is that it normally takes thousands of years for the earth to warm just a couple of degrees. The temperature increases we’ve seen in just the past century should have taken almost a thousand years.
Over the past 100 years, we’ve warmed the planet 10 times more quickly than anything we see in the natural record. Over the next 100 years, we’re on track to warm the planet 20 times faster than anything we see in the natural record. Bottom line: Our planet is warming up much more rapidly than in the past and entering into a very dangerous period for human well-being.
OK, so it’s hot and it’s getting hotter very quickly. What does this have to do with carbon emissions?
The answer is that scientists who look at the natural changes in our climate going back millions of years can see that temperature is closely linked to the amount of carbon in our atmosphere. Carbon goes up, temperatures go up.
And carbon is going up – carbon levels have increased 100 times faster than normal since the beginning of the industrial revolution. At the same time, global temperatures have increased nearly two degrees. What changed at the beginning of the industrial revolution? We began burning fossil fuels, which released a huge amount of carbon into our atmosphere. Carbon went up, and temperatures followed.
OK, so it’s hot and it’s getting hotter very quickly, and those rising temperatures are closely linked to the use of fossil fuels. What does this mean for us?
It means that rising temperatures create more flooding, extreme weather, droughts, wildfires and disease. And that means more human suffering, death, mass migrations and international instability. We’re seeing these impacts right now all around the world.
Near the end of last year, the United States experienced five 1,000-year flood events in five weeks. My state of Vermont just experienced its worst flooding since 1927 – damaging 4,000 homes. Canada is experiencing its worst wildfire season on record with smoke from Quebec creating unhealthy air conditions in large parts of the United States.
Last summer’s heat waves killed more than 60,000 people in Europe alone. Beijing recently recorded its heaviest rainfall in at least 140 years, forcing nearly one million people to relocate. Iran just announced a two-day public holiday, shutting down banks, schools and public agencies because of unprecedented heat which exceeded 123 degrees. In poverty-stricken African countries like Sudan, Madagascar and Somalia, drought and floods have cut food production, leading to a major increase in hunger.
Climate change will not only impact the physical well-being of humans, it will also have enormous economic implications. The Deloitte Economics Institute estimates that if left unchecked climate change could cost the global economy $178 trillion over the next 50 years as a result of lower productivity and employment, food and water scarcity and worsening health and well-being. We’ll also have to spend huge amounts of money repairing the damage that extreme weather causes.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that we can still avoid the worst impacts of climate change, save a great deal of money, and make our energy grid more resilient by transitioning away from fossil fuels toward renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Right now, wind and solar energy are the least expensive forms of new energy generation. Period. They’re cheaper than coal, and cheaper than natural gas. There is a reason why, despite enormous opposition from the fossil fuel industry, a conservative state like Texas has increased its solar capacity by more than 500% over the past three years.
Renewable energy also offers opportunities for families to save money. With rooftop solar, for example, you can generate electricity right at home and cut your electricity bills by 80% or more. That’s why I recently passed legislation to make it easier for low- and moderate-income families to install solar on their homes.
I understand that transitioning away from fossil fuels is a contentious and difficult issue and will meet enormous opposition from Big Oil and other special interests. I also understand that it is not just an American issue, and that China (currently the world’s major carbon emitter) and countries throughout the world will have to come together with us to make the cuts in carbon emissions that the health of the planet requires. Whether we like it or not, we’re all in this together.
While the path forward to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for planet Earth will not be easy, and mistakes will certainly be made, the choice we face is pretty clear. Either we maintain the status quo and continue to see more heat waves, drought, floods and extreme weather disturbances or we move away from fossil fuels and do our best to make sure that the planet we leave our kids and future generations is healthy and habitable.
Frankly, this is not a difficult choice. This is a moral responsibility.

Bloomfield Hill Home Buyers f
Loan Level Pricing Adjustments (LLPA) that are hitting the mortgage business in the spring of 2023. This is a serious concer for home buyers. Here is some background: One of the reasons this country has such a great ownership rate is that we generally have low interest rates for home loans. A reason for that is the standardization of loans by some giant pseudo-government entities, primarily FannieMae and FreddieMac. About 80% of home loans meet standard guidelines, and it allows for simple exchange of loans by institutional investors. Loans that conform to these standards are referred to as "conforming loans". Again, this is nearly 80% of home loans. As you probably know, not everyone gets the same rate when they buy a home. That is because of the LLPA. These adjustments compensate for variations in each loan, the size of the loan, the type of home, what the home is used for, the credit score of the borrowers, the occupancy of the home, and even the location location of the home. This standardization is normally great. However, when these large groups changes their standards every few years, it impacts a lot of buyers. The LLPA changes for 2023 are quite significant. Here are four examples of the negative impacts: 1 Pricing will now be impacted by a buyer's total Debt To Income ratio. (DTI) If a buyer's total monthly debt payment is above 40% they will face a pricing hit. There is a lot of concern that this will lead to additional difficulties in getting loans through underwriting, because it is a whole new measurement.? 2 For the last ~30 years if a buyer's credit score was above 740 they basically had access to the best pricing. The vast majority of buyers in our office have had scores above 740. Now a buyer needs to have a 780 to get to the best pricing level.? 3 Refinancing will reportedly be significantly more expensive than a purchase loan.? 4 There are now situations where it makes sense for a 20% down buyer to actually just use 19% down and pay Private Mortgage Insurance, because of the interaction between downpayment adjustments and Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) pricing.?? Here are three positives: 1 Pricing for lower credit scores has improved. For example, 640 to 660 scores have reduced penalties.? 2 ?Many 3% down loans have gotten better pricing. 3 There are now situations where the buyers have?qualifying incomes equal to or less than 100% of the area will not be subject to the new adjustments. A really useful chart of the impacts is here:?https://www.mortgagenewsdaily.com/news/01192023-big-llpa-changes Full details:?https://singlefamily.fanniemae.com/media/9391/display The bottom line here is that mortgage approval criteria have changed. If you have a preapproval from the first quarter of before, you need to go back to them and get an update. Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your home purchase. Delta Airlines has the earliest flight departing at 5:50 and arriving at 8:25, while American Airlines departs at 6:00 and arrives at 8:55, United Airlines departs at 7:45 and arrives at 10:30, and JetBlue Airways departs at 8:00 and arrives at 10:40. The following airlines currently operate flights between Orlando and San Juan: Jetblue Airways, Spirit Airlines, and Frontier Airlines. Delta Airlines offers the earliest flight, which is ideal for travelers who need to arrive at their destination quickly. American Airlines is slightly later, but still a good option for travelers who don't need to arrive at their destination as quickly. United Airlines is the third option, and JetBlue Airways is the fourth option, with the latest departure time and arrival time. Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines are other options, although they are not included in the comparison. - Which airline flies directly from Orlando (ORL) to San Juan (SJU) most frequently? Please let us know in the comments below. American Airlines is the airline that flies directly from Orlando (ORL) to San Juan (SJU) most frequently. It has the most daily flights available, with the earliest departure time and the latest arrival time. It is worth noting that Spirit Airlines provides two direct flights a day between Orlando (ORL) and San Juan (SJU). While American Airlines is the most frequent option, Spirit Airlines can be valuable for travelers who prefer to depart at specific times or want to take advantage of discounted fares. Additionally, American Airlines has more amenities available, such as in-flight entertainment and meals, which may make it a better choice for some travelers. - In San Juan (SJU), there are how many airports? American Airlines has more options for travelers, such as in-flight entertainment, meals, and more. In San Juan, Puerto Rico, there are three airports: Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), Rafael Hernåndez Airport (BQN), and Mercedita Airport (PSE). A total of 2 airports are located in San Juan (SJU): Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport and Luis Muoz Marn International Airport. American Airlines offers more flight options in and out of San Juan than other airlines, allowing travelers to choose from a variety of departure times and destinations, as well as the convenience of having access to in-flight entertainment, meals, and more. Additionally, the two airports located in San Juan (SJU and FLLRD) provide a wider range of flight options. Flying from Orlando to San Juan? Here's what you need to know: SJU is located in the San Juan metropolitan area and is the largest airport in Puerto Rico. FLLRD is located near the town of Luquillo and is much smaller, but it still offers a range of flight options from the mainland United States and other Caribbean destinations. It is possible to get a return ticket for US$110 at the cheapest price. SJU is located in a major metropolitan area and is the main hub for air travel in Puerto Rico, so tickets can be more expensive there. FLLRD is a smaller airport, so it doesn't have as many flight options, but it is also much cheaper. It is possible to find the cheapest direct flight for US$56 online. Due to its size and location, SJU has many more flights and destinations than FLLRD, so tickets are usually more expensive. FLLRD, on the other hand, is a smaller airport and doesn't offer as many flights, but tickets are usually much cheaper. During the month of January, it is the cheapest. This is because the demand for flights is usually lower during this month due to the holiday season. So, airlines offer lower prices to attract more passengers. July is the busiest month of the year for travelers. Airlines know that they can charge higher prices due to the increased demand during July, so they raise their fares accordingly. Additionally, airlines may also raise their fares during peak travel periods such as summer and winter holidays.   Read the full article

2023 way too early NWSL Power Rankings
Rank
Team
Change
Analysis
1.
Portland Thorns FC
–
Newly promoted head coach Mike Norris steps in for former manager Rhian Wilkinson and that commitment to continuity is present throughout the team. The Thorns will enter the regular season with nearly all of their 2022 NWSL Championship roster intact. Sophia Smith is the reigning league MVP, and the club re-signed long-time captain Christine Sinclair for one more year in an effort to chase another title.
2.
Kansas City Current
–
The club ended its season as runners-up in the 2022 NWSL Championship, narrowly missing out on a remarkable "worst-to-first" season. After looking stagnant and out-classed in the final the front office quickly got to work to get even better. They re-signed key players Hailie Mace, Alex Loera, and Kate Del Fava. and then won the free agency period by signing three sought-after targets Morgan Gautrat, Vanessa DiBernardo, and Debinha.
3.
San Diego Wave FC
–
Wave FC were calculated in their offseason moves after a historic inaugural season ended in a playoff semifinal appearance. Head coach Casey Stoney and general manager Molly Downtain retained much of the inaugural roster, and added pieces in free agency. The midfield got a big boost with Danielle Colaprico, but if young prospect Jayden Shaw can add more goals in her sophomore year expect the Wave to have another successful season.
4.
OL Reign
–
The 2022 NWSL Shield winners ended their season with a semifinal defeat in the playoffs. Head coach Laura Harvey has made minor changes to her roster leading into the 2023 season. Veteran re-signings with Lauren Barnes and Megan Rapinoe were predictable moves, but the additions of defender Emily Sonnett, forward Elyse Bennett, and midfielder Luany could provide the team with a new spark.
5.
Houston Dash
–
The club hired a new head coach in Sam Laity and he's tasked with taking the team to the next level after the the made its first-ever postseason appearance in franchise history. They retained key players in free agency with new contracts for Sophie Schmidt and Allysha Chapman and have many players returning from their quarterfinals run. But acquiring Diana Ordonez might take the team to the next level if she can replicate the record-breaking goal-scoring from her rookie season.
6.
NJ/NY Gotham FC
–
The east coast side leaned into veteran experience this offseason after hiring new head coach Juan Carlos Amoros. They landed goalkeeper Abby Smith in free agency and re-signed Ifeoma Onumonu and Taylor Smith. They also acquired Yazmeen Ryan and in maybe the splashiest move of the off-season traded for USWNT forward Lynn Williams during the draft, setting up big expectations for the club after a last-place finish in 2022.
7.
Chicago Red Stars
–
The team suffered the biggest departures in free agency losing all of their starting midfielders. They tried to stop the bleeding by acquiring veteran Cari Roccaro, and signing Brazilian international Julia Binachi. Forward Mallory Swanson has had two consecutive MVP-caliber seasons with the team and is in remarkable form with the national team, but much of the clubs' success will depend on how their new midfield pieces pan out.
8.
Racing Louisville FC
–
Head coach Kim Björkegren has created a roster of massive international talent since he joined the franchise in 2022. Nigerian forwardl Uchenna Kanu is the newest addition and enters the league off a successful stint with Tigres Femenil. While most teams will feel the pressure of international windows in a World Cup year, Louisville may feel the impact hardest. A break in the regular season will help, but how all the new pieces mesh together will put a lot of pressure on Bjorkegren getting his tactics right.
9.
Orlando Pride
–
The Pride promoted Seb Hines to head coach after the team went on an undefeated streak during his time as the interim boss. The team picked up exciting young players in the draft, but how players return from injury may impact the teams' success as Brazilian icon Marta returns post-ACL injury and Vivanna Villacorta continues to strengthen her ankle after season-ending ligament surgery last season.
10.
Angel City FC
–
Angel City will embark on just their second season but made minor moves in the offseason to improve. The biggest brand in the league struck out in the first-ever free agency period but did manage to sign Katie Johnson to the roster. It's a risky move to hope multiple players (Christen Press, Sydney Leroux, Sarah Gorde, etc) have breakout seasons after major injuries, but the team has a young prospect in Alyssa Thompson to be excited about.
11.
Washington Spirit
–
The 2021 NWSL Champions took a complete 180 degree turn and struggled during their 2022 season. The team strung together just enough performances to avoid last place, but may not have accomplished enough in the offseason to get them back to the playoffs. Much will depend on whether or not the current core of players will buy into former NWSL champion and new head coach Mark Parsons' tactics in his second stint with the club.
12.
North Carolina Courage
–
The team officially closed the chapter on an entire era after losing Debinha to free agency and trading team captain Abby Erceg. The roster also lost Carson Pickett and Merritt Methias in the trades, but welcomes USWNT defender Emily Fox, Estelle Johnson, and Tyler Lussi to the squad.

Spring break is an excellent opportunity to travel and discover new destinations with your family. But how do you choose a destination?
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua's laid-back beach town, may not be the first spot that springs to mind when planning a spring break holiday, but it is a must-see. Asheville is routinely named one of the finest family-friendly communities in America because it offers lots to offer both kids and adults. Spirit airlines flight status
Tumblr media
On June 15, negotiations between the airline and ALPA resumed, and a tentative agreement was reached late in the evening on June 16. This was the first passenger airline strike by American ALPA-represented pilots since Comair in 2001. On June 12, 2010, Spirit grounded its flights when its unionized pilots walked out on strike, stranding thousands of passengers. At that time, Spirit pilots were among the lowest-paid Airbus pilots in the United States. In May 2009, after more than four years of inconclusive negotiations between the airline and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), Spirit pilots overwhelmingly (98% of votes) voted in favor of strike action over compensation, work rules, and benefits. In September 2008, Spirit began placing advertisements on the side of aircraft, overhead bins, tray tables, seatback inserts and bulkheads. On June 3, 2008, Spirit Airlines made a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice) application to potentially relocate or lay off hundreds of pilots and flight attendants, and the closure of their San Juan and LaGuardia crew bases. In 2006, Spirit exercised options to order 30 Airbus A320-200 aircraft for further expansion. Spirit also began service to Grand Cayman, San Francisco, and Boston in 2006, and in 2007 filed DOT applications to offer service to Costa Rica, Haiti, the Netherlands Antilles and Venezuela. In the fall of 2003, Spirit resumed flights to Washington, D.C.'s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, which were suspended after the September 11 attacks. In November 2001, Spirit inaugurated service to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and implemented a fully integrated Spanish-language customer service plan including a website and dedicated reservation line. Discrepancies were found in the marking and placarding of emergency equipment, passenger seats, storage areas and doors on eight of Spirit's DC9 and MD80 aircraft. In 2000, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) fined Spirit Airlines $67,000 for allegedly violating federal regulations on cabin and seat markings and placards. Prior to the decision to move the headquarters to Miramar, Spirit considered Atlantic City, New Jersey and Detroit, Michigan. It relocated its headquarters in November 1999, moving to Miramar, Florida, in the Miami Metropolitan Area. Spirit initially had their headquarters in Eastpointe, Michigan (formerly East Detroit) in Metro Detroit. At the time Spirit was utilizing DC-9 and MD-80 aircraft. In 1996, Janet Patton became Spirit Airlines' first woman pilot, and in 1998 she became the first woman captain. In response to criticism, Spirit Airlines said it would make sure all paid customers would always be able to fly to their destination, even if Spirit Airlines had to book them on a competitor's airline. The overbooking occurred because Spirit Airlines had given incorrect instructions to travel agents, causing those tickets not to be valid, even though the customers had paid for the flights. In the summer of 1994, Spirit Airlines overbooked flights, and 1,400 customers' tickets were canceled. During the next five years, Spirit expanded further, increasing service from Detroit and adding service in new markets such as Myrtle Beach, Los Angeles, and New York City. Flights between Atlantic City and Fort Myers, Florida, began on September 25, 1993. On April 2, 1993, Spirit Airlines began scheduled service to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and St. Scheduled flights between Boston and Providence began on June 15, 1992. Scheduled flights between Detroit and Atlantic City began on June 1, 1992. On May 29, 1992, Charter One brought jet aircraft into the fleet and changed its name to Spirit Airlines. In 1990, Charter One began scheduled service from Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, to Atlantic City. The airline service was founded in 1983 in Macomb County, Michigan, by Ned Homfeld as Charter One Airlines, a Detroit-based charter tour operator providing travel packages to entertainment destinations such as Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas. The company changed its name to Ground Air Transfer, Inc., in 1974. The company initially started as Clippert Trucking Company in 1964.
