osric  never  thought  he  would  feel  more  trapped  than  he  had  while  confined  to  the  red  keep  or  sunspear  .  yet  now  that  every  twist  and  turn  of  the  briar  maze  concluded  with  a  wall  of  red  and  black  —  a  conclusion  he'd  come  to  after  tens  of  minutes  of  wandering  —  a  sense  of  foreboding  ,  and  of  unwanted  uncertainty  ,  had  crept  up  on  him  .  but  ,  knowing  @ruinovs  had  been  far  less  enthusiastic  to  be  in  the  maze  than  he  had  ,  he  pushes  down  his  own  disquiet  .  "  at  least  your  friend  is  here  to  keep  us  company  .  "  he  says  ,  hand  outstretched  ,  an  offering  for  the  kitten  to sniff  .

The arrival of the rest of her family had provided the youngest rose with an amount of comfort that she doubted she would ever be able to quantify. Her heart had been buoyed despite the loss of her father and between their company and her hands and mind being kept occupied in the grief at bay for the most part. Still as much as her composure and sweet smile might seem to claim otherwise, there was still an ache within her heart that had failed to subside and seemed to tighten at the most inopportune of moments.

There was little desire within her to make her unsettled moments public and so she excused herself from current company in order to search out somewhere a little more secluded. Light footsteps carried her down the corridors in search of a room that could allow herself a moment or two without composure but instead she seems to happen up someone else in search of the same thing. “Forgive me.” Truthful words leave her lips with sweet and soft tones. “My intention had been to find some peace for myself, not to disturb someone else’s.”

" let me know when you want to head back , " osric announces , turning his attention from the greenery toward @ruinovs as he continues to amble through the famed labyrinth of highgarden . though there didn't seem to be much point to wandering around , other than to see the various fountains and sculptures hidden within it ; perhaps that was enough of a motive for so many to enter the briar maze . but he is glad andar had humored him by tagging along . " i've been keeping track of the turns we've taken , so it shouldn't take too long to retrace our steps . "

" i figured we could stick around here for a while , " osric explains before flopping down onto one of the couches in the common room . the mazes hold no appeal anymore , and lead by his gradually building unease , he gravitates toward the familiar — which , in a region he's only been to once before , means staying near family , @ruinovs of course being included . " that okay with you ? " he asks , though admittedly he has no intention on moving from his spot for the time being .

it  had  been  difficult  to  keep  any  semblance  of  calm  as  he  made  his  way  up  the  spear  tower  ,  barely  managing  to  not  glare  in the  prison  guards  direction  when  asked  who  he  came  to  visit  .  maintaining  that  calm  had  been  nigh  impossible  upon  coming   to  face  @ruinovs​​  ,  though  he  forces  a  smile  ,  even  if  andar  of  all  people  would  be  able  to  recognize  just  how  fake  it  is  ,  “  i  tried  to  bring  you  a  blanket  —  and  told  them  they  could  inspect  it  for  a  hidden compartment  and  everything  .  i  don’t  think  they  liked  that  much  , ”  he  attempts  at  a  joke  .  in  truth  ,  he  had  been  trying  to  be  solemn  ,  leaving  the  blanket  behind  with  relatively  little  resistance  once  prompted  .

there  were  a  few  people  in  attendance  that  osric  could  recognize  without  even  a  moment  of  hesitation  ;  his  siblings  and  good  sister  ,  of  course  ,  but  it  extended  to  his  good  sister’s  family  as  well  .  he  would  not  go  so  far  as  to  say  that  he  was  an  honorary  member  of  house  royce  —  for  all  his  quips  and  jabs  ,  osric  adored  his  siblings  ,  and  most  of  all  he  was  proud  to  be  born  into  house  arryn  —  but  his  closeness  to  the  family  was  undeniable  .  though  he  did  have  his  favorites  ,  and  andar  was  without  a  doubt  the  royce  he  liked  most  of  all  .  he  had  been  for  a  long  time  .  he  saunters  up  to  the  youngest  lord  of  runestone’s  side  ,  slinging  an  arm  over  the  other’s  shoulders  ,  “  you  haven’t  gotten  up  to  anything  fun  without  me  ,  have  you  ?  ”  he  jests  with  a  wide  grin  .

@ruinovs​  sent  a  raven  :  sender  sits  in  receiver’s  lap  .

one  minute  ,  osric  had  been  minding  his  own  business  ,  reading  ,  and  in  the  next  ,  he  barely  has  enough  time  to  cast  the  book  aside  before  andar  settles  in  his  lap  .  to  say  the  action  startles  him  wouldn’t  be  incorrect  ,  though  it’s  merely  the  suddenness  of  it  rather  than  anything  else  .  seeing  the  best  and  worst  of  one  another  ,  to  him  ,  also  translated  into  being  fine  with  invading  each  other’s  space  from  time  to  time  .  “  alright  .  ”  is  all  he  says  ,  looping  one  arm  around  andar’s  waist  ,  and  draping  the  other  over  his  friend’s  legs  .

" huh ? " osric replies , the words too quiet for him to pick up . he waits a beat for andar to repeat himself , but promptly drops it once his friend's attention shifts . " i couldn't see anything from my window , but anything's possible . " a joke , mostly , but knowing so little of the tyrells other than their eye for detail, he wouldn't put it past them to somehow have food prepared in some of the more popular clearings within the maze . " i brought some jerky , though , if it doesn't . " he shrugs lightly , taking a few more steps toward the next fork in the path . they'd have to take a left next , he recalls , pocketing the memory away as he doubles back to look at andar . " have you thought about bringing one back with you ? " he nods to the kitten .

" is it a magical clearing different from every other ? " andar mumbles under his breath, stooping down to pet behind one of the cat's ears that he spotted, pretty positive that it was the same one he'd taken to feeding bits of food and giving it attention anytime it came around. " sure, sure. whatever you want. " he was trying to push down his own anxieties, not going to let them prevent os from ambling through the maze like he wanted to, and andar liked to think he wasn't so affected that just a couple more twists would bother him that much. " though i hope this clearing has food or something for you to be looking for it. " with that he brings the kitten into his hands, standing back up as he shoots a gaze over to his friend.

over  the  past  few  moons  ,  osric  had  adopted  a  bit  of  a  more  moderate  demeanor  .  in  part  it  had  been  because  of  his  tour  ,  knowing  his  played - up antics  may  not  be  taken  as  well  by  his  family's  vassals  .  mostly  ,  though  ,  it  had  been  visiting  andar  in  runestone  that  prompted  the  shift  .  he  waits  patiently  ,  offering  a  reserved  smile  when  his  friend  looks  at  him  .  "  there  won't  be  any  need  for  that  ,  promise  .  i'm  just  looking  for  a  clearing  i  saw  from  the  terraces  —  it  shouldn't  be  too  far  now  ,  "  he  explains  .  "  i  figure  we  can  rest  for  a  bit  and  head  back  out  .  "  while  he  can  appreciate  the  beauty  of  the  briar  maze  ,  as  with  everything  else  he'd  seen  of  highgarden  ,  the  inherent  sameness  of  the  hedges  dulls  its  appeal  .  but  perhaps  a  break  in  the  monotony  would  change  his  mind  .

he hadn't seen what the popularity in the maze was, and now walking through it with osric, saw even less of its appeal. andar hadn't ever enjoyed being lost, but ever since dorne had been skittish — the hedges taller than them made him mildly claustrophobic. steps dragging as he followed behind his friend, he almost missed when os addressed him, looking up from his feet quickly. " we can go back whenever you're ready as lack as keep up with where we are. i don't know if i can handle the embarrassment of having to the alarm and have the tyrell guards come and save us. " nor would he deal well with being stuck somewhere else, and no one needed to see the inevitable break down that would come with that.

his  friend's  thin  voice  sets  off  further  alarm  .  even  so  ,  osric  reaches  out  a  bit  further  to  scratch  the  kitten  between  their  ears  .  as  andar  continues  ,  however  ,  osric's  face  falls  ,  doing  his  best  to  remain  calm  for  his  friend's    sake  .  still  ,  his  eyes  remain  wide  .  "  hey  ,  look  at  me  ,  "  he  breathes  out  ,  voice  low  .  gingerly  ,  he  moves  closer  ,  setting  a  hand  on  either  of  the  other  lord's  shoulders  .  though  he  hadn't  wandered  too  far  through  the  maze  ,  not  wanting  to  leave  andar  alone  for  long  ,  osric  hadn't  seen  anything  but  other  entrapped  nobles  ,  dead  ends  ,  and  walls  of  black  and  red  .  he  would  do  anything  andar  asked  of  him  ,  but  how  could  he  do  something  he's  concluded  is  impossible  for  the  time  being  ?  "  would  it  help  if  we  look  for  a  way  out  together  ?  "

he was sure that he was going mad with panic. andar's leg bounced up and down anxiously as he fought to keep himself seated instead of trying to claw his way out of the guards like he wanted to, not necessarily to run for he had nothing to hide, but to get more air to his lungs that he wasn't getting inside the hedges. " yeah, " he responds, voice reedy as he wheezes out the word, gaze flicking from side to side like a scared animal. he couldn't focus on the kitten clamoring from his palm to outstretch its neck to osric, finally to turning to fix a dark and pleading gaze on his best friend. " os, i can't breathe in here, i have to get out of here. "
